After 2.5 years in Houston I've finally found my go-to Salon! Rebecca cuts my hair and she is AMAZING! I have super thick, asian hair and I love the way Rebecca cuts it. I always have to book extra time since my hair is so thick, but she is so patient and doesnt cut any corners! I like to keep my hair on the longer side but hate how heavy it is when it's long, and Rebecca takes the time to take out the weight in my hair while giving my hair style, body and movement. This is the cutest little old house turned salon. I was looking for a new place once I moved to Houston and saw some good reviews for this place and that Brittney did great balayage and she did not disappoint! After emailing her some pictures of what I was thinking and chatting about it, we did a bright blonde balayage over my natural darker blonde hair with baby highlights layered in! So a "foilayage" if you will. It turned out fantastic and Brittney was basically should be a standup comedian she was so funny. A haircut at SalonTrose is one experience I will cherish the rest of my life. Resting within the busy area of Montrose the adobe styled pueblo holds more than meets the eye, and is not to be overlooked. My journey began while looking upon where to get haircut threw the mystical internet. Scrolling through countless pages and reading reviews SalonTrose caught my attention. I said to myself "A salon in monTrose? I need to see this for myself". Upon investigating their portal of true definition www.salontrose.com I found out this establishment housed some of the greatest legends of time. Brandon of GresHAM, stylist extraordinaire, lord of straight edges and Lady Traci wielder of pure color, champion of Bumble and Bumble. After feinting from being over whelmed at their glorious qualifications I browsed their media selections. Showcasing colors and cuts it sealed the deal for me I had to have a haircut of my own. Their portal prompted me to call or register to make an appointment given my options; I decided to register to make my future engagements a one click process. After battling to link my myspace through foursquare to my SalonTrose account, I was able to choose my champion. Parking my horse was an easy task no issues and an abundance of spaces to pick from. Upon my arrival I was greeted with warm smiles and cold beverages. The interior is a mix of late 70's and the Jetsons, though minimalistic quiet and inviting objects. Some sorcery was playing my favorite song by The Carpenters and I immediately felt at home. Being on time like I always am I was immediately taken back past the walk-ins. There must have been 15-20 people without the keen ability to make an appointment ahead of time. But I understand their waiting for a haircut to be remembered. My hair was washed with imported water from the ice off of Mount Everest pure and absolute. I then met with my champion Brandon. He immediately had several options all to my liking. After small talk and watching his speedy hands working magic from his pouch of hair cutlery, my scalp had never seen a better day. It was if the gods themselves cut my hair. They even had a mysterious device that checked me out within seconds. I believe it was called an Apple it was wondrous I didn't even have to leave my divine spinning chair. After all that I was given stickers and cozies for being such a risk taker. SalonTrose we will meet again and I look forward to our next encounter. I booked with Brittany and I was very excited about my appointment! The location is so adorable and I love that it is in a house. Beautiful salon with the most amazing stylist- Yvonne! She colored my hair and I absolutely loved it, especially with me being so nervous to color my hair for the first time and she really took care of me. I loved the wash and the way my stylist to the time to explain to me the process. At the end of the service, she took me upstairs and took a personal video for me to show me what my hair looks like in the light. Based on the reviews I was really excited about SalonTrose, but the actual experience was anything but great. I want to give a disclaimer that this review is based only on the actual results, but the salon is cute and the staff was extremely nice . I came in with partial grown-out highlights looking to refresh and get a haircut. After 3 whole hours ( we had to stop because the stylist had another client coming!) I somehow left with darker hair than I came in with - no highlights, no haircut, and no blowout. For transparency , I do have long and thick hair however, I was never asked these details when scheduling an appointment nor has this ever happened to me in any other salon! The hairstylist did try her best to be really nice about it, but the situation seemed a bit absurd. She offered to start a haircut or maybe a yet another color treatment "and see how far we get" in the last 10 min we had left before her next client and quite honestly agreed that my hair literally looked all one dark color with no highlights. She did mention that she tried to be subtle with the highlights (though no highlights maybe is too subtle?) and told me that next time I should bring pictures to show what I want ( wish she would have asked for this before she started if she didn't understand what I wanted). The salon did discount the service fee, which was nice I guess, but still a bit ridiculous since I was quoted $200-$300 for the whole service and ended up paying $140 plus 20% tip to waste 3 hours of my time and lose whatever highlights I had prior to this appointment. I do feel bad that the stylist wasted 3 hours of her working time, yet from my perspective as a client I am not quite sure what I paid for; would have appreciated an opportunity to leave a comparable amount voluntarily as a tip to the stylist than be forced to pay for a service that clearly was not successful. Lastly, what was even more odd was that aside from a vague "do you want us to see when you could come in" there was no insistence on having me in for a do-over nor really any projection of confidence that this situation is an anomaly and the staff could accomplish the desired result going forward. read more

While I am an avid reader of reviews, I rarely take the time to write reviews (I know, shame on me). So the fact that I am taking the time to write a short novel on my positive experience at Salontrose with Brittany should indicate that I really mean what I say. I more or less had gotten used to the fact that I was never going to love my hair. One bad experience over 2 years ago left me with an end result that was mediocre and despite 3 different salons and multiple different stylists, no one ever seemed to really listen to what I was saying was wrong and what I wanted done differently. So continuing on my quest to get back to my natural dark brown hair, I ended up at Salontrose last Friday in Brittany's chair. I spent about 3 hours last week reading reviews on over 100 different salons in Houston to find a new place to try and when a salon has 87 reviews and a 5 star rating, it has my attention. I got through about 50 before deciding to make an appointment. I will say that the online booking process is really confusing so I ended up calling to make the appointment. I spoke to the receptionist who was very friendly and after explaining what I wanted, she gave me a few options. One of the options was an appointment with Brittany, a newish stylist (been there since December) who was offering some really great introductory prices and had availability later on in the week. I was not hesitant to go with a "newish" stylist because I have spent hundreds of dollars getting less than satisfactory results on stylists that are quite "seasoned" but the receptionist assured me that Brittany would work with the Master Colorist before putting anything on my hair so I figured if nothing else, I would end up with more of the same that I had been getting anyway. I walked out of the salon last Friday with my expectations having been more than met. Brittany took the time to really listen to what I said and to offer solutions on how to get there - and it wasn't upsell type situation which I have been hit with before. And while she reassured me that if I was anything less than happy she, or another stylist there, would do whatever it took to make me happy. So I sat back, read my ipad, chit-chatted a little and when I looked up after my blow out, I was a bit shocked because I really haven't seen the person in that reflection in a long time (ridiculous right?). Brittany, thank you for taking the brassy gold out of my hair. Thank you for being knowledgeable about the product lines at your salon, thank you for taking the time to write down what you did so when I come back in a few weeks, you can recreate the exact look. And most importantly, thank you for not having an ego that prevents you from listening to your clients. I'm happy to have found you! read more

The first lady who cut and colored my hair at SalonTrose was Christine. She did an amazing job. The next time I scheduled with her though, she charged me over $50 for the same color, highlights, cut and style. I am sure she was making up her prices as she went. Even though this happened, I called again to schedule with her. She was fired. So....I went with DeAnna. Deanna made my hair a red base...yuck. But was super sweet and fixed it the next day. Now...after that...being a bit skeptical, I wanted to go with one of the owners, Brandon. What an ass on the phone to me. So rude! I am an extremely busy working mom. I NEVER put myself first. I was willing to pay his skyrocketing prices of $80 cut, $75 color and $110 highlights. So so so rude and I was even willing to do it in two parts because he didn't have the time to do it in all in one day. Since he wasn't available in the two time periods I had and wasn't helpful at all to recommend someone else in his salon. So arrogant. I would never again have my family spend another penny there. I don't care how good he is. He knows how to cut hair but has NO, absolutely NO idea how to handle customers on the phone. read more
