A lovely Japanese restaurant with great food and interior design. I had: 1. Hamachi jalapeno 2. Salmon sashimi 3. Uni & scallops hand rolls

Small restaurant, staff very friendly and attentive, stopped in for lunch, had the Katsu Curry, price with tax and tip was $25.00, portion size was good. Food came quickly, curry had good flavor, not very spicy. Cutlet was cook well and had a nice light breading. Parking may be a bit tight but there is usually some on the street if the lot is full. Will go back for something else from the menu.

Nice little Japanese restaurant that is tucked in between a few businesses. You definitely wouldn't think a restaurant as nice as this one would be located where its at. PARKING can be a little tricky, but you can find some additional parking along the street side. SERVICE was great. They were friendly and attentive. They provided great recommendations. FOOD was on point. Everything tasted great! We ordered quite a few tasty items on the menu. Pictures for reference. Drinks were great. I had the Lucky Dog Ale and ordered a bottle of sake. Looking forward to another trip here.

We'd heard good buzz about this place, hidden in a small strip mall, and had to try it. We opted for a reservation at 5:30 and glad we did, as the place got packed after we arrived. The inviting funky atmosphere, quality menu, and seating in plush, red cushioned chairs made for a nice experience. I loved the asparagus appetizer, crunchy and drenched in yakitori sauce. The bento box we split was great-- savory crab sushi, spicy salad, tuna/salmon/yellowtail nigiri, and tempura. They have a nice variety of sakis, too. I'm no expert on sushi, but it was evident the chef knows his stuff. We'll be back.

    failed attempt at cooking rice

Unfortunate miss. First time trying this place, went for lunch, grabbed about 5 dishes off their lunch menu. Price was ok, maybe a little high in general for what you get. Also their dine in sit down menu looks extra pricey. Anyways parts of the food tasted weird. Particularly the rice. How does a Japanese restaurant get rice wrong? It tasted almst like they used soapy water to cook it. It was inedible. Something was also off with the tomato and beef in other dishes. The green beans were the mostly normal tasting part of the meal.

    SEARED BLACK PEPPER TUNA

Overall, I would recommend giving this place to try. The ambience is nice, the staff is friendly, and the food was good. I will say some items are pricier than other places, but still enjoyable. Decided to give this place a try and stumbled upon it right as it opened! The ambience was really nice and the waiter told us the menu was brand new, (less than a week old). Everything looked so good, so we didn't hesitate on tasting a variety of items. Appetizer: GARLIC SPICY EDAMAMME $8 This was my least favorite item. The edamame was steamed way too long. As a result it was super soft, stringy, and mushy. The spicy garlic sauce was just coated on the top, but not really cooked into the appetizer. Specialty Cut Roll: EL SEGUNDO $23 (ingredients are... SPICY TUNA - AVOCADO - CUCUMBER - TOPPED WITH TUNA - SASHIMI - JALAPENO DRESSING CILANTRO) This was soooo tasty and flavorful. It had a surprisingly zesty taste to it. I don't know if I'm doing justice to this roll, but it was good! Hand Rolls (choose 3 for $35) - BLUE CRAB (with CUCUMBER - AVOCADO) This was OK. It tasted like crabcake mix (pre patty fried) in a hand roll. A bit dry, but real crab was a plus. - YELLOWTAIL (with AVOCADO - IKURA) This was a little dry as well. Paired well with the soy sauce, but otherwise it was just OK. - TORO (with GREEN ONION) My least favorite of the three. It looked like a very rich and flavorful cut of fish. However, in my opinion, it was quite bland and tasteless. Sashimi Carpaccio Style: SEARED BLACK PEPPER TUNA $25 (served with SPRING MIX - CRISPY ONION - GREEN ONION - YUZU) YES, YES, AND MORE YES! This was so tasty! The tuna was seared perfectly with a nice delicious coating of black pepper. The onion was less crispy and more on the soft side. But if you ignored that, the remainder of the dish was excellent. This I ordered two of. Drink: Green Tea I love me some tea from a sushi house. In this case, my hot green tea arrived in a mason jar with a teabag?!. Not what I expected when I ordered hot green tea. They did offer to refill my glass (using the same teabag), but the leaves were all used up. A little disappointed on this aspect. Condiments: - Wasabi : they use wasabi paste, but provide the option of real wasabi. If you ask for the paste, be advised it is very light in spice and flavor. The actual wasabi is better, but comes with a five or eight-dollar upcharge. - Ginger : nice and fresh

    Beef Udon

Food I initially ordered the beef curry rice and was excited for my order, but I was informed only after about 10 minutes that they did not have it in stock, which was a shame and I felt it was bad service to inform me only after having waited so long. I ordered the beef udon instead. The beef udon was actually pretty good. Nice and savory broth with good umami that warms you up. Tender beef and some good udon noodles. Service/Ambiance We came in as a pretty large party of 6, so they told us that they could seat us in one table but we'd have to move tables in about 30 minutes since there was a reservation for that table which was fine I guess. We get to ordering and the server was nice but seemed to be a bit lost in knowledge of the menu when we were putting in our orders and had questions on the menu items. The food took a while to arrive.

Love this place! We've been here a few times and the food has been consistently fresh and well prepared. It's an easy spot for a casual meal, and the service has always been friendly. Definitely one of those places we keep coming back to. #taxcap98

I came back under the new ownership and the food is still quite good and appears to have improved since last time. I ordered the 2 yellowtail + blue crab bento combo. The tempura was light crispy and satisfying if very very slightly oily. The salad had an appropriate amount of bright zesty yuzu dressing, which complimented the crisp greens well. The blue crab had a nice unami, creamy avocado, and crackles of flavor from the sesame seeds. The yellowtail was less than really fresh but still had excellent flavor and a thick cut. The soy sauce does overwhelm the sushi since its full sodium so be careful with that. All in all a pretty good meal. Minimal complaints.

My girlfriend and I celebrated her birthday at Saloon Osaka off Imperial Ave and had a good experience. Before dinner, we enjoyed some plane watching at Clutter's Park, which set a relaxed tone for the evening. The food was delicious-- we ordered the gyu-don, unagi avocado bowl, four handrolls (two toro and two salmon), and two pieces of aji nigiri. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. However, when it got busy, service lagged a bit. One server seemed unfamiliar with the menu, and with only one sushi chef handling all tables, our waits stretched longer than expected. In fact, I waited an extra 10-15 minutes for my aji nigiri, though I ordered it in the middle of the meal.

sweet and spicy shrimp lunch bowl

I ordered the sweet and sour shrimp lunch bowl to go. The amount of shrimp and the size of shrimp used was really disappointing. They were smaller than the cherry tomatoes, which were another thing I found strange about this dish. The flavor wasn't bad but I think it tasted more like a ceviche for some reason. I may still come back as this isn't what I'd normally order from a place like this. But definitely would not order this again.

The chefs work the grill with the calm confidence of people who know they're about to make your day. The service up front is quick, friendly, and laid‑back, matching the whole casual, chill atmosphere, the kind of vibe where you can unwind, sip something cold, and watch the charcoal glow like it's performing a tiny, delicious magic trick. And the skewers? Oh man. Each one hits the grill freshly made by hand every few minutes as the orders get placed, using locally sourced, quality meats that somehow tastes like it grew up doing yoga and drinking alkaline water. "lol." The texture is firm, springy, and ridiculously juicy, a perfect testament to the chefs' skill. You can literally savor each skewer as it grills over Japanese charcoal, picking up that smoky, mouth‑watering flavor that makes you rethink every other skewer you've ever had before. By the time you get to the last bite, you're already plotting your return, or wondering if it's socially acceptable to ask the chef to adopt you. It is eastablished and celebrated by eaters far more articulate and with wider reach than I. But I recently went, and enjoyed myself quite a bit. Not only because the food was incredible but because the staff made me feel like a special patron. My main server was Julian. He was young, attentive and continued the chain of grand service. But there are two other female servers that make the experience pop with above the line service, I wish I knew their name. The first passed me and my companion Conrad and asked how is your mother? All I could say was she was still alive. I took my mom to mother's day there two years ago and she remembered. That kind of service cannot be reproduce because it was held in heart and intention. I was a welcomed guest. I may not go often but when I do I am remembered. That kind attentiivesness is more than appreciated, it is remembered too! The second server when I leave the place meets my eyes, has a grand wide smile, and said something in Japanese that makes me feel seen in Kyoto. I am engaged in a jovial way by the staff here that is why it is a sincere pleasure to buy the kitchen staff a picther so we can Kanpai!. There sweet way with me is something I cannot undervalue because in doing so I would ignore the kind of hospitatlty that moves mountains closer to the sun. And the food is amazing, like so good, it cannot be ignored espeically when the menu went through changes. The reason why that face immediately hit me in the face was because I used to go for these corn tempura things that were like this amazing crunch in corn. But still what we had was wonderul. Like I would hurt back or strain my inner thigh trying to complain about the food in this place. This time around Conrad and I had their Shabu Shabu. I have had Shabu Shabu before (not here) a few times, not many but this was the first time that Conrad had it. And that face in itself is special, I think. So moving on from that, eating Shabu Shabu was engaging cause you basically create a broth that you are using to cook veggies and meat so images of witches and camping come to the mind, easily. I also took a video of Conrad grinding some sesame seeds, like he was an apothecary or doctor of old times. And I do not care who you are, you are going to enjoy working a bit, especially in a fun way, for your meal. Like who would not like to peel a few cloves of garlic for their herbed chicken? The broth came with pork shoulder and pork belly. We also had some meat and onions on stick--- I think we had pork belly and chicken. We also had a rice ball. We also had thier Gobo Chips. This is something that survived the menu transition that hit every crispy bite. It hit every crispy bite. By this point I know that the food will be fantastic, and the type of food that warms the heart and soul- comfort food. However, this, comfort food is not mine to claim by familiarity because I have not known it since childhood. But I have known it enough to know it as comfortable. I guess, I can claim it as familiar because it became such in the span of years, not decades. Like when can someone claim a carne asado taco to be familiar comfort food when they did not grow up eating it? That is the question that I am left to ponder. This place is a spot I know to be good and trust to deliver on service and quality.

There is a side menu for yakitori if you want extras. This bentos come with with a green salad, pickled veggie and miso soup. At the end is a free dessert of vanilla, Macha , or lichee ice cream. Yum that Lichee ice cream is so refreshing with real lichee in it. A must have. Service could be better but there was only one server. The atmosphere was nice and quiet . I would definitely go back there for lunch. Dinner is another different menu. Also looks good.

Unfortunately, the food told a very different story. We ordered a wide variety of yakitori since the glowing reviews repeatedly highlighted it as the restaurant's specialty. Instead, what arrived was surprisingly inconsistent. Nearly every skewer had a heavily charred exterior that crossed the line from smoky to bitter. Good yakitori should showcase careful grilling that enhances the ingredients, not mask them with burnt flavors. The proteins themselves didn't taste particularly fresh, and the seasoning was all over the place. Some skewers were so lightly seasoned they tasted unfinished, while others were aggressively salty. Consistency is one of the fundamentals of good yakitori and it was noticeably lacking here. Having visited plenty of izakayas and eaten more than my fair share of yakitori, I'm not claiming Michelin-level expectations. I simply know the difference between properly grilled, well-balanced skewers and ones that miss the mark. Based on this visit, the food was below average and failed to live up to the hype. With the volume of positive reviews, I expected a memorable yakitori experience. Instead, I left wondering if I had visited the same restaurant everyone else was raving about.

The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which made our celebration even more enjoyable. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. It's not always easy to find a restaurant that can satisfy everyone's tastes, but Dash Dashi Sushi did exactly that. I will definitely be back. This has already become one of my favorite sushi spots in the South Bay. Highly recommend!

The ultimate celebration spot!…read more What an absolutely insane weekend for sports! With the USA getting a massive FIFA win, my New York Knicks finally taking home the NBA Finals Championship, and the Carolina Hurricanes defeating the Vegas Knights for the Stanley Cup, my friends and I needed a top-tier spot to celebrate. There was no question we were heading straight to Dash Dashi in Manhattan Beach. Located right near the pier on Manhattan Ave, Dash Dashi perfectly blends that laid-back South Bay coastal energy with incredibly refined sushi. We walked in buzzing from the games, and the staff matched our energy perfectly. The service here is always attentive and friendly. We kicked off the celebration with a round of their premium chilled sake and an order of their spicy garlic edamame. Do yourself a favor and do not skip the edamame--the hot spice blend is dangerously addictive and pairs perfectly with the sake. But let's talk about the main event. If you follow my channel, you already know I come here for one specific reason: the off-menu "KG Roll." The chefs know exactly how to make this custom signature roll for me, and it is a masterpiece every single time. The fish is insanely fresh and buttery, and it has the exact right balance of heat and crunch. Seriously, ask the chef if they can whip up the Kristina Farberman special (the KG Roll)--you will not regret it! Whether you're celebrating a historic weekend of sports sweeps or just looking for some of the best sushi in the South Bay, Dash Dashi never misses. Highly recommend! -- Kristina Farberman
