Small restaurant, staff very friendly and attentive, stopped in for lunch, had the Katsu Curry, price with tax and tip was $25.00, portion size was good. Food came quickly, curry had good flavor, not very spicy. Cutlet was cook well and had a nice light breading. Parking may be a bit tight but there is usually some on the street if the lot is full. Will go back for something else from the menu.

Nice little Japanese restaurant that is tucked in between a few businesses. You definitely wouldn't think a restaurant as nice as this one would be located where its at. PARKING can be a little tricky, but you can find some additional parking along the street side. SERVICE was great. They were friendly and attentive. They provided great recommendations. FOOD was on point. Everything tasted great! We ordered quite a few tasty items on the menu. Pictures for reference. Drinks were great. I had the Lucky Dog Ale and ordered a bottle of sake. Looking forward to another trip here.

We'd heard good buzz about this place, hidden in a small strip mall, and had to try it. We opted for a reservation at 5:30 and glad we did, as the place got packed after we arrived. The inviting funky atmosphere, quality menu, and seating in plush, red cushioned chairs made for a nice experience. I loved the asparagus appetizer, crunchy and drenched in yakitori sauce. The bento box we split was great-- savory crab sushi, spicy salad, tuna/salmon/yellowtail nigiri, and tempura. They have a nice variety of sakis, too. I'm no expert on sushi, but it was evident the chef knows his stuff. We'll be back.

Unfortunate miss. First time trying this place, went for lunch, grabbed about 5 dishes off their lunch menu. Price was ok, maybe a little high in general for what you get. Also their dine in sit down menu looks extra pricey. Anyways parts of the food tasted weird. Particularly the rice. How does a Japanese restaurant get rice wrong? It tasted almst like they used soapy water to cook it. It was inedible. Something was also off with the tomato and beef in other dishes. The green beans were the mostly normal tasting part of the meal.

Overall, I would recommend giving this place to try. The ambience is nice, the staff is friendly, and the food was good. I will say some items are pricier than other places, but still enjoyable. Decided to give this place a try and stumbled upon it right as it opened! The ambience was really nice and the waiter told us the menu was brand new, (less than a week old). Everything looked so good, so we didn't hesitate on tasting a variety of items. Appetizer: GARLIC SPICY EDAMAMME $8 This was my least favorite item. The edamame was steamed way too long. As a result it was super soft, stringy, and mushy. The spicy garlic sauce was just coated on the top, but not really cooked into the appetizer. Specialty Cut Roll: EL SEGUNDO $23 (ingredients are... SPICY TUNA - AVOCADO - CUCUMBER - TOPPED WITH TUNA - SASHIMI - JALAPENO DRESSING CILANTRO) This was soooo tasty and flavorful. It had a surprisingly zesty taste to it. I don't know if I'm doing justice to this roll, but it was good! Hand Rolls (choose 3 for $35) - BLUE CRAB (with CUCUMBER - AVOCADO) This was OK. It tasted like crabcake mix (pre patty fried) in a hand roll. A bit dry, but real crab was a plus. - YELLOWTAIL (with AVOCADO - IKURA) This was a little dry as well. Paired well with the soy sauce, but otherwise it was just OK. - TORO (with GREEN ONION) My least favorite of the three. It looked like a very rich and flavorful cut of fish. However, in my opinion, it was quite bland and tasteless. Sashimi Carpaccio Style: SEARED BLACK PEPPER TUNA $25 (served with SPRING MIX - CRISPY ONION - GREEN ONION - YUZU) YES, YES, AND MORE YES! This was so tasty! The tuna was seared perfectly with a nice delicious coating of black pepper. The onion was less crispy and more on the soft side. But if you ignored that, the remainder of the dish was excellent. This I ordered two of. Drink: Green Tea I love me some tea from a sushi house. In this case, my hot green tea arrived in a mason jar with a teabag?!. Not what I expected when I ordered hot green tea. They did offer to refill my glass (using the same teabag), but the leaves were all used up. A little disappointed on this aspect. Condiments: - Wasabi : they use wasabi paste, but provide the option of real wasabi. If you ask for the paste, be advised it is very light in spice and flavor. The actual wasabi is better, but comes with a five or eight-dollar upcharge. - Ginger : nice and fresh

Food I initially ordered the beef curry rice and was excited for my order, but I was informed only after about 10 minutes that they did not have it in stock, which was a shame and I felt it was bad service to inform me only after having waited so long. I ordered the beef udon instead. The beef udon was actually pretty good. Nice and savory broth with good umami that warms you up. Tender beef and some good udon noodles. Service/Ambiance We came in as a pretty large party of 6, so they told us that they could seat us in one table but we'd have to move tables in about 30 minutes since there was a reservation for that table which was fine I guess. We get to ordering and the server was nice but seemed to be a bit lost in knowledge of the menu when we were putting in our orders and had questions on the menu items. The food took a while to arrive.

Love this place! We've been here a few times and the food has been consistently fresh and well prepared. It's an easy spot for a casual meal, and the service has always been friendly. Definitely one of those places we keep coming back to. #taxcap98

I came back under the new ownership and the food is still quite good and appears to have improved since last time. I ordered the 2 yellowtail + blue crab bento combo. The tempura was light crispy and satisfying if very very slightly oily. The salad had an appropriate amount of bright zesty yuzu dressing, which complimented the crisp greens well. The blue crab had a nice unami, creamy avocado, and crackles of flavor from the sesame seeds. The yellowtail was less than really fresh but still had excellent flavor and a thick cut. The soy sauce does overwhelm the sushi since its full sodium so be careful with that. All in all a pretty good meal. Minimal complaints.

My girlfriend and I celebrated her birthday at Saloon Osaka off Imperial Ave and had a good experience. Before dinner, we enjoyed some plane watching at Clutter's Park, which set a relaxed tone for the evening. The food was delicious-- we ordered the gyu-don, unagi avocado bowl, four handrolls (two toro and two salmon), and two pieces of aji nigiri. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. However, when it got busy, service lagged a bit. One server seemed unfamiliar with the menu, and with only one sushi chef handling all tables, our waits stretched longer than expected. In fact, I waited an extra 10-15 minutes for my aji nigiri, though I ordered it in the middle of the meal.

I ordered the sweet and sour shrimp lunch bowl to go. The amount of shrimp and the size of shrimp used was really disappointing. They were smaller than the cherry tomatoes, which were another thing I found strange about this dish. The flavor wasn't bad but I think it tasted more like a ceviche for some reason. I may still come back as this isn't what I'd normally order from a place like this. But definitely would not order this again.

I only had the mixed tempura. It was light, flavorful, and generous portions of veggies. The shrimp and veggies perfectly cooked, and the sauce was thicker than most tempura dipping sauce so it coated the pieces better but overly. My wife and I dined at Saloon Osaka for the first time today. A hidden gem in El Segundo only open Tuesday through Sunday 5pm to 10pm. The food was delicious, the atmosphere (once you get past the 7-11 strip-mall parking lot) was clean, pleasant, and very comfortable. The service was outstanding. We felt like we were visiting friends. We ordered Gyoza and Edamame for appetizers. Both were excellent. The Edamame was served hot smothered in a delicious spicy hot garlic sauce. The serving was generous and as an appetizer could have served 4 (but my wife and I put a good dent in it). The Gyoza was hot and crispy. We will order both again. My wife (a lite eater) ate from my plate and ordered the green dragon roll. It was tasty and beautiful to the eye. I ordered a bento box combo that included seaweed salad, excellent crispy and light mixed tempura, California rolls, and sushi. I ordered the standard California rolls made with imitation crap, but California rolls made with blue crab was an option. The bento box could be ordered with 2, 4, or pieces of sushi. I opted for 2 and at the chef's recommendation I ordered the blue fin tuna sushi (and then asked for it to be seared). I have never had blue fin tuna so fresh. I do not like fish that tastes or smells fishy and the tuna was perfect for me. The meal came with ginger and standard wasabi, but I ordered the fresh wasabi having never tried it. I am glad I did. It was strong and delicious and did I mention strong. All in all a wonderful meal and an excellent dining experience. The meal came to $75, and we left a generous well deserved tip. read more

The first thing I noticed when I entered the restaurant was the attention to detail in the interior decor. It had a very cozy vibe and the type of atmosphere you'd like to frequent. On top of that, the food was great! We ordered a few rolls including the Jessical Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Baked Salmon Roll. Then we had some Karage, with just the perfect amount of crisp. I can go on and on since we ordered way more than that -- Marco Polo, Baked Miso Salmon Collar, Fried Fish. Then finally, we finished our meal with some Hand Rolls for dessert haha. We were pleasantly surprised by this little sushi restaurant that is hidden in a strip mall in El Segundo. Went on a Saturday evening, got seated right away as it luckily wasn't too crowded. We started with the garlic edamame which was spicy and super tasty, then ordered an assortment of sushi and rolls. Everything was fresh and delicious, however the rainbow roll was a little bit fishy, it did not have a fresh taste. Or maybe that was just the fish used -not sure. Service was pretty good overall, and since most all the food was good we would definitely return. read more

Chirashi bowl....not bad, sashimi was pretty fresh. Weird and hard to eat with large cubes of fish... chirashi... making your own nigiri from your bowl every bite....square cube is hard to make that nigiri. Tuna cubes had some hard to chew through tendons, which could be avoided if sliced correctly. The uni was pretty sweet, a little tiny fishy smell. Disappointed the ikura was a chewy lump.... outter layer of the little balls are dry..so they stick together and when you bite it., it does have the "pop" effect. The red pickled ginger flavor does not go well with sushi. Sushi rice was ok fluffy, a little more flavor will tates better. read more

A hidden gem in Southbay. Looks unassuming in a strip mall by El Segundo. Lovely art & decor. Great menu - short but interesting. Great Japanese beer & sake selection, then a few wines too. We enjoyed yakatori, tofu, crispy tuna rice, hand rolls, a salmon bento box & avocado eel bowl. They gave us complimentary miso soups. Everything was fresh, cooked to perfection & delicious. Tempura was really superb. They've a proper coffee machine too - bonus points! Service was friendly & chef/ owner kind, attentive and informative. Definitely recommend, we'll be back. We waited and got seated. Passed menu out and took 25 minutes to order. Two waiters. Wrong description of the sushi rolls. Served our main dish before our appetizer. Our kids got their food 30 min after us. We wanted to eat together. My sushi fell apart and couldn't dip in sauce. The crab was dry and over cooked. Do not get the spyder roll. My son could not eat his udon soup. The noodle texture was hard and soup base tasted like pure soy sauce only. The chef came out and w/o asking he just poured hot water in his soup saying it's too salty. Horrible food and service. I ate at Silver lake ramen in Manhattan Village and the food was served all at the same time, wait was 10 min and everything was delicious. Made up for our visit in Manhattan. Saloon Osaka is a home run! There have been "sushi" places in this spot for years. I mean, the not as fresh standard Salmon, Tuna, Yellowtail. That is fast food sushi. This is the real deal! Their Chirashi bowl is outstanding. Any Chirashi bowl that comes with Uni is always premium. For those that don't like Uni, it is most likely because you tried some that is not fresh. Uni is delicious if fresh. Sushi Connoisseurs know to try Uni as that will tell you how good the place is. I've had bad Uni and I close out the tab and leave. This place has great Uni and great dishes. If you are looking for a Sushi place you can get out for less than $20 a person, this ain't it. If you are looking for a true Japanese and Sushi experience that rivals the more expensive famous places, then this is it. I live in El Segundo and happy to have an amazing Sushi place in our backyard. Best wishes for continued success. read more

Love this place! I've had multiple items on their menu and it's always delicious! Always love the Marco Polo. We get the sashimi which is always such good quality it melts in your mouth. We have had Daniel as our server a few times and he is always so attentive and friendly and the chef always remembers us and very accommodating to what we are in the mood for that night. Fabulous! If you are staying at any of the LAX airport hotels and in the mood for some authentic, fresh sushi, this hidden gem is only 10 mins drive away. We were looking for a place to have sushi in LA as it was our last night in town, and we had heard a lot about LA Sushi. Living in Asia, we have had the chance to eat at many wonderful places in Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Singapore, and Saloon Osaka rates up among the best we have eaten at. Icy cold Asahi draught on tap served with edamame was a perfect start to our delicious dinner. We ordered assorted tempura, a dozen of Kumamoto oysters, followed by the very special Rainbow Roll, Salmon and avocado sushi and finished off with the Sukiyaki hot pot. Quoting my son, "The dinner was beautiful." It was a pleasure to meet the master behind the fantastic meal - Chef Keith. Also not forgetting to mention that he treated us to a very tasty side of Yellow Tail Sashimi and warm miso soup. Will certainly return for more!! read more

I go to the pet wash every three weeks. During the Covid shut down during that I had to take her in to be washed. The saloon just recently opened so we decided to try it. Wow! My husband and I enjoyed our dinner here so much! I got the rainbow roll with a miso soup on the side. They did not cheap out on the fish like most sushi places do on rolls. My husband got the karaage bento box. It was a little different style than the karaage we've had before. The batter was more airy and it had more spices added. He loved it! Just had a delicious dinner from Saloon Osaka. We ordered it from Postmates bc I'm lazy and can't drive five minutes from my house to pickup! We ordered assorted sashimi, salmon sashimi, a cucumber wrapped tuna roll, California roll, salmon & avocado roll, salmon sushi, and the spicy tuna with albacore on top. Also edamame, miso soup, side of rice. All was so good! Will definitely be getting food from here again for our next sushi night! read more

If you are near LAX (or in the airport with a decent layover) and craving some Japanese fair - definitely stop here. The fish is high quality. Ambience inside is really cool vibe and the sushi chef was outstanding. They really take care of their fish and the menu is robust. Something for everyone. They definitely take pride in what they do. I traveled to Japan many times and I am an avid Chirashi bowl person. Out of all the Japanese restaurants I've been to, the amount of fish (the cut is thicccc), quality, and just how delicious this was, it was the best chirashi bowl i ever had.
