Sal the owner is a great guy! I had a blowout on the 605 freeway and limped into the parking lot. He saw me walked over and looked at the tire it was trashed. He didn't have the tire so he said hop in my truck we'll go get one, 20 minutes later we were back. He put it on and this was all done in about 40 minutes. I paid for an oil change and new brakes. The oil change was fine but they did not do a good job on the brakes. The brakes would continue to make noise after the new ones were put in. I went to another location to find out the brakes were not installed properly. Just come here for the oil change but nothing more complicated than that. read more

I was driving by, with a flat tire, so stopped by, took about 25 minutes to get it "fixed", one hour after leaving this place, the tires' pressure light came out, so I went to the closes place to have it repair. I was told the guys at Sal's did a very BAD JOB.... the tire could not be fixed no more, so I have to buy a new one. I would never go back to this place. read more

I recently stumbled upon Sal's by chance. Actually, it's more like Sal's stumbled upon me - and thank goodness! I just happened to stop by the Arco station Sal's is located at, on Whittier Blvd. just off the 605 freeway. I needed air in one of my tires badly and stopped at the Arco station to use their air pump machine. Since there was a car blocking the pump, I had to pull the hose a bit far to reach my car and was struggling to do so. I must've looked like a hot mess because a man in coveralls from Sal's shop came over to ask if I needed any help. He offered to fill and check my tires himself for free, said that it would be quick to do and added that I wouldn't have to get my hands and clothes dirty from messing with my tires myself, and told me to just pull my car over to his shop. I was worried he would try to sell me something after he took care of my tires, but I figured all I'd have to say is no - and I was willing to do that to have someone fill and check my tires for free! The guy turned out to be Sal himself, and he took great care in filling my tires and even explaining to me how much air I need to make sure to put in and why it was important. I told him I was worried about my tires lately because I was told by another shop that I needed all new ones. Sal looked at them and said the back ones were actually in great condition, but the front ones definitely needed to be replaced and explained why front tires were more important than the back (something I already knew, but it was still very nice of him to be so thorough with me). After Sal was finished (turned out ALL of my tires needed air, not just the one like I thought), he told me I was good to go. He didn't try selling me on something else and didn't push me to even come back at all. He genuinely wanted to just help me out that day. I was so grateful and told him I promised to come back soon and have my car serviced at his shop. When I told him that, he went inside his shop real quick and came back out with a coupon for me to use when I come back. This was just amazingly good customer service. So friendly, so honest, so courteous. I was beyond impressed. You don't see excellent service like this anymore. I will definitely be returning to Sal's! read more

When they say it's going to take "10-15 minutes" they actually mean 30-40 minutes. The original quote of $21 for an oil change was actually for a different location, it will be $25 once you get here. Also keep in mind there's only outdoor seating. Not a good errand to run during a heat wave. Oh and he may refer to you as "mama" if you're a female costumer. read more

Fast, lowest prices, and no BS! I got regular oil for $25 and out in less than half an hour.

Engine light went on so I took it to Sals. They replaced the injectors, plugs, and coils. $2800.00 job. Took it home and still ran badly. Engine light still on. Took it back and they had it for two days. Said it was a short not related to the work they did and that I needed another engine. Charged me another $360.00. Still ran badly and engine light still on. Frustrated with Sals mechanics, I took it to a reputable mechanic. They did a complete diagnostic check. Immediately found that the work done by Sals was shoddy. #5 and #7 injector wires were crossed. Turns out Sals mechanics lied about the work they did. I contacted the mechanic that worked on my vehicle. After explaining what happened , he acted like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. No remorse about the error made on his part with my vehicle. Customers should beware of this guy who works for Sal. Takes cash only so he doesn't have to report it to I.R.S. State Fraud might be interested about this type of practice. Even Sal refuses to return my calls. read more

I've been going to Sal's for about a year now & I recently had some work done there and a friend told me I probably needed brakes based on my mileage so when I went to Sal's I expected to hear exactly that. I talked to Sal personally and told him I was concerned about my brakes. After my oil change &etc. Sal told me he personally checked out my brakes and they were in great condition, the front are almost like new and the backs are about 50% worn. Talk about honesty, he knew I was expecting to have to pay for new brakes and he very easily could have lied and made a few bucks but he didn't. I've also heard similar stories from friends and people I've talked to about how honest he is. I won't go anywhere else, his honesty in this day & age is a rare thing and it's make a life-long customer out of me. read more

Had a low tire pressure sensor light come on a long drive home. Drive around for an hour looking for a service station/air machine working on Sunday and happened upon this business. These people will never get my business again. I was over charged $184.00 for a simple heater hose replacement which they padded the bill on. This heater hose is not a dealer item, but a standard stock item. They charged me for new hose clamps saying they were rusty, (they were are all stainless steel and do not rust) when I told him to use the old hose clamps, he said he was still going to charge me for new clamps if he used them. When I asked for a receipt for the charges, the person there told me it would be more because he didn't want to pay tax's. these people are dishonest and on the take. read more

Best prices in Whittier and on top of that when I asked him for a referral for a scratch on my car he tried his best to get it off himself. Not all came off but looks a lot better! I highly highly do not recommend these folks. A simple oil changed turned into a potentially nightmarish situation. Firstly, they put the wrong oil which started producing smoke. They left a rag in my engine parts. They loosened many critical things, Air Hose, sensors, Distribution cap. Immediately after leaving I get an check Engine light. I go back a after noticing the rag hanging from the bottom of my car a week later, they take it out and touch even more stuff. My Engine starts misfiring and vibrating. I go back, and the loosened Air hose screw was re tightened. I leave again and my gears start jumping and not engaging. And oh they tell me my Knock sensor is dead and that is the cause of the problem, to replace it, it would cost me 400 bucks. At this point I knew something was up. I Contacted Sherif the mechanic right up the street and he tells me that the knock sensor would not cause all that trouble. I take my car in and he finds my AP sensor disconnected therefore affecting the transmission. The oil used was either light or diluted, I had to replace it all. In 3 hrs, my car was back to normal. The Distribution cap was loose. So go to this place at your own risk, even for an oil change. Mine could have turned deadly since I was driving a car around with a rag stuck in my engine parts. read more

This is my new go-to oil change spot. The guys are quick, check everything, and don't try to push unnecessary services on you. The owner (maybe manager?) who assisted me when I came in was incredibly nice. He used to run a jiffy-line back in the day so he has tons of experience and was able to fill me in on maintenance needs specific to my car at its current mileage. Found this place by chance. Stopped for gas & decided why not I needed a quick oil change. This was the best lucky discovery in a long time. Exceptional customer service. These guys were fantastic. Besides changing my oil, i asked is they would do a quick check of my car which they did front to back (and very thorough check for that matter). Found a few leaks and other problems which they didn't just tell me, they brought me out to the car and showed me. Such honest guys. And no pressure to fix anything. A few things he found he told me not to worry about it could be fixed later ... not urgent. Other fixes like new clamps on hoses to fix leaks they did right away along with other minor fixes. $20 regular oil change. I use high grade synthetic $60. Complete transmission fluid change $80. Prices are exceptionally reasonable. Best of all is peace of mind that these guys did a great job. If you live anywhere around here I highly recommend Sal's. read more
