I'm writing this review using my wife's login. This review is delayed because I was out of town, but I want to document my experience regarding an unresolved issue following a recent service. Here is an update regarding my complaint. On February 5, I went to see the Manager Richard. He informed me that corporate will not cover the damage to my vehicle because my oil change only cost about $100, while the original hood pin for my vehicle costs around $500 from the dealer since it is only sold as a complete set. Richard also told me not to call him anymore and said he would call me with updates. I found that response very RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. If they had actually followed up with updates, I would not have needed to keep calling in the first place. To summarize what happened: after my oil change on 10/22/2025, the technician who worked on my car, Christian, failed to properly reattach the hood pin. As a result, the hood pin was dragged and eventually broke off. I brought this issue to the attention of Ozzy and Richard. Initially, they appeared willing to help resolve the problem, but when it came time to replace the damaged part, they refused to cover the cost of the original component. I returned to the store four separate times and made numerous phone calls trying to get this resolved. Instead of properly fixing the damage they caused, Pep Boys attempted to cut corners by purchasing an aftermarket piece and even suggested grinding it down to make it fit the hood pin. This kind of workaround is unacceptable and completely unprofessional. It is shocking that a large multi-million-dollar company would handle a customer issue this poorly--especially for someone who has been a loyal customer for over 20 years. I expected accountability and a proper repair, not a cheap patch job for damage caused by their technician. This entire experience has been frustrating and extremely disappointing. If this issue is not resolved properly, I will escalate it to corporate and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau so other customers are aware of how situations like this are handled. read more

Took several emails to corporate but was able to show my purchase of the lifetime alignment. Once the receipt was provided by corporate the shop was able to provide the service and was very positive. I would like to give five stars but since I had to do all the leg work to prove my purchase we have to go with three. Still don't know how my account was deleted. read more

Had a 9am appointment to replace all 4 tires and was guaranteed the work would be completed by 2pm. My vehicle wasn't ready until 3:30pm -- an hour and a half late -- with no clear updates or apologies along the way. The customer service was poor, and communication was lacking. To make matters worse, when I finally picked up my car, I was handed a laundry list of supposed issues totaling over $3,000. I'll be taking it to my own mechanic to see if any of these problems are actually legitimate. Overall, this experience was frustrating and left me with very little confidence in Pep Boys. Upon entering this location in Santa Fe Springs the associate was extremely lackluster barely spoke. I had an appointment at 11:30 got there earlier just to ask a few questions. Finally after breaking the ice with The associate became easier to speak with. She informed me it would take 2 to 3 hours to order the part which I guess is understandable just wished they would have been more friendlier, I would have waited. They also were going to charge me $50 over the price for the bulb and installation. Went down the street to Firestone better service charged me $86. It should be noted the associate wanted to go get my part because it would have taken longer the manager who also was not the nicest told her that wasn't in her job description and no! Arrived in an emergency at 5pm on Sunday, 25th May. We'd had a flat tire, not ideal given we had young kids sleeping in the back and were running late for a family commitment. Despite being understaffed due to the long weekend, the guys there took great care of us. They diagnosed the issue, had a tire in stock, and replaced it. About an hour turnaround. I visited my local Pep Boys for new tires. Ruben and Izzy assisted me in finding the right tires at a competitive rate. Carlos in service got to work right away and all work was completed in very timely rate. They even followed my request to preserve an old tire to keep as a spare. Was instructed by SilverRock (Carvana's insurance provider) to come here for a service needed on my alignment. I began explaining to the guy at the desk why I was there and how I was sent by SilverRock. Immediately afterwards, another dude (probably the manager) walked in and interrupted "SilverRock?...my diagnostic guy isn't in right now..so you'll have to go to the other location in Downey". It wasn't until after I walked out that I realized he likely just didn't want to do the service because it would be a SilverRock claim If you're coming here for a Carvana / SilverRock service, don't mention it until after the service. read more

OMG pep boys are so freaking money hungry they're just trying to get money from you saying everything's wrong and actually it's not. It's funny how I took my car just last week and they're saying that I have a problem with it but I already got that fixed last week Little what they know they're just trying to rip everybody off. I will never come back to Pep Boys again. My husband bought tires just barely last week, buy three get one free and the tire got a nail in it. We took it back today so they can fix the tire because we were under the impression the tires are under warranty and they're saying that it's going to cost us money to get it fixed. Pep Boys - Bad place to go if you want save money - Tires Near Me - Whittier, California

DO NOT COME HERE! Brought in my vehicle for a diagnostic and it turned out to be a sensor and the thermostat. I paid $676.37 for them to fix the issue. Within a day the 'check engine' light reappeared and subsequently brought it back. Richard, the service tech, said he would look at the issue again. We eventually brought the vehicle back 3 separate times and the 'check engine' light reappeared every time after. Naturally frustrated I took the vehicle to another certified shop and they also ran the diagnostic and it shows the same two problems, a sensor and thermostat. I came to speak with Mark Gutierrez, the service department manager, and he said he would reimburse me for the issues they claimed to have had fixed. I only asked Pep Boys to reimburse me for a partial amount (the thermostat and sensor) which is about $400 of the total amount. To which he said he needed to see a receipt from the other shop in order to reimburse me for what they charged me? I brought in the diagnostic and parts receipt but he said he couldn't accept that. He then became aggressive and simply walked away saying he would only reimburse me for what the other shop charged me. Doesn't make any sense he would pay me back for the work another shop did. I've been a loyal customer for about 20 years now but this will be the last time coming here. In other recent visits with other vehicles I own I have had issues with their poor service such as oil changes that resulted in no new oil put into the engine, a buy 3-get-1 free tire deal they negated on. I also experienced instances where they charged me for services we never asked for such as windshield replacements. Another time I came in for a tune-up and they ended up doing a transmission flush, which I never asked for. There are a lot of companies locally who work on cars. I had a lot of luck with Huntington Beach Pep boys when I lived in that area but not all Pep Boys are created equal. Not only that, the prices have gone up and the quality had gone down. The general public doesn't know much about cars and very seldom do we pop our hoods. We take our cars to a trusted mechanic for piece of mind while driving. My wife took her vehicle here for an oil change. A couple weeks later we took her car on a family trip up to Big Bear. Coming up the mountain, her car overheated and fried the wiring harness. Upon opening the hood, we saw that the coolant was low. It's pretty basic that on an oil change that the fluids get checked because THE MECHANIC is supposed to be the expert. If the customer has to check their work and make sure that it's done right, then why would I waste my time with these guys? Towing, parts and labor we are in the hole $4,000 now. All because someone didn't so their job. read more

Went to have my brakes replaced. When I drove my car 3 days later after pepboys worked on it, one of the bolts came lose and the rotor scrapped the whole inside of my rim really bad. I took it back to pepboys and they admitted to not screwing on the bolt tight enough and fixed it again, however the inside of my rim is still damaged at this point and Mark the manager told me that if I opened a case claiming pepboys to be responsible he would deny the claim anyways and hung up on me. I went into the store to talk to him in person and it was a nightmare . He gave me the run around that it's just cosmetic I can still drive the car safely and refuses to take care of the damage that was done to my rim. I expressed my anger and he threatened to call the cops, this white man calling the cops on me a Hispanic.After many tears and crying in front of him he finally made things right and ordered a new rim. I thought I was in a literal nightmare. I've never had a manager disregard what should really be done to fix the damage done by them. Never going here again read more

Manager is young and inexperienced. Ignores you for 5 mins then decides to talk to you. On top of that a simple tire rotation took there new guy an hour to do. If you see a guy wearing a hat doing your car be worried. Just stay away from this pep boys unless you have time to kill and don't care if they do the job right. I was here about 5 years ago and bought a lifetime alignment for my truck. At that time, I was there for close to 7 hours - they told me it shouldn't take longer than 2 hours so I waited and waited and waited. Went there again recently to get another alignment for my truck after the rains riddled the city with potholes. This time I was smart I dropped off the truck and got an Uber. I was told one of their techs who can do the alignments quit yesterday so the wait might be longer than 2 hours. Got a call 3 hours later to pick up my truck. Nice friendly staff. Engine light was on Brought vehicle in for a diagnostic check was told the code was for the thermostat and a sensor, $700 later and 3 trips back to Pep Boys light still on. First I was told the sensor they used was "a cheap one" so they order an original part but they wanted me to pay an additional $120 which I refused. I was asked to leave my vehicle once again and not even 24 hours later engine light comes on again so now they want to say that my car is not new and unfortunately things will go wrong. If my car was new it wouldn't need these costly repairs I am well aware of that I just want them to make it right or issue a refund! I feel cheated! read more

Be aware of their labor rate raise for oil change. I've always been bringing my better quality engine oil and filter to Pep Boys for oil change for many years. But today when I brought my supplies they informed me that their policy has changed and they use Mitchell flat rate which is about $52, for oil change if the customer choose not to use Pep Boys supplies. I asked when did this happen, the staff said at the beginning of the year. Then I called Pep Boys customer service and they told me their labor rate is $22 not $52, however each store's price can vary. I've used many locations and they all vary between $18-$22. I wish I had known this before so I could go to another location, thought it was a company wise change, but I haven't checked other locations' labor rates yet. Yesterday morning the engine in my car started to make rattling/thumping noise. A fried took a look at it and said it may be engine knock. I went on pep boys website and made an appointment to this location for 4.30pm. Shortly after I received call that they are fully booked and can take me. They asked to reschedule. I rescheduled my appointment for today at 2pm and in description box wrote that I hear rattling noise. Took afternoon off from work and arrived to the appointment, just to hear from them that they don't have technician available for me and they won't be able to look at my car. I called 1800-737-2697 and filed complaints. This is ridiculous! They just lost up to few $$$$ by not providing service to my car... Worst customer service ever!!! read more

Took my truck in for oil change and new tires approx 9am. Guy at counter said someone else will help me as he kept playing on his phone. Finally the next guy shows up, told him what I needed and off I went. Pretty quickly I get a text from PepBoys to track the status of my repairs. Not until 1:45ish did I see my truck get assigned to a technician. Then at 6:40pm, they call to tell me the truck is ready and they close at 7pm. Got my truck that night and they changed my tires and did my front brakes (not requested) and NO oil change. They left my truck with grease stains on the hood, and drivers door. The guy said they did do the oil change but my receipt doesn't show it. My oil change settings in the dashboard wasn't reset and no reminder sticker was left on my window. We had purchased our tires at Pep Boys so when we had a flat, due to a nail we made an appt. at Pep Boys to have it repaired. Our appt. was for !0am on July 5th. My husband waited until 1pm before the SUV was even put on the rack and finally at 3pm. ( five hours after our appt.) when no one had still attempted to fix it, he asked that the SUV be lowered so he could take it somewhere else. He took it to Daneils tire, where the tire was reapired within 5 minutes of arrival. We will never puchase anything from Pep Boys again. read more

Great customer service. Talented mechanics. I glided in to change out my alternator and belts. Brought in my own parts early one Friday and the service was done by noon. Staff was friendly and professional. Didn't give me any hassle what so ever for bringing in my own parts (unlike other service shops in the area... coughFirestoneautoCough... ) prices were also reasonable. I made an appointment for a simple oil change, I stated I will be waiting at the shop since I didn't have a rite home, I arrived on time just to be greates by this unprofessional worker, I told them I had an appointment, as soon as I stated this, he got kinda mad and said it will take hours just for that, almost like if he didn't want take my car. I explained I had made an appointment, he said it will be hours any way. He was very rude to the point he suggested to reschedule. I told them what was the point of rescheduling if he can not guarantee my car will be service at the time of the appointment, he simply said there is not. He definitely did not want to take my car despite the fact I made an appointment. His attitude was terrible and not helpful at all. By the way is not the first time this happens, but other times they are nice about it, not this last few times. pepboys appointment system doesn't work, at least not for this location anyway and the staff are rude. Update: I received a call from the regional manager of this store, Gus. Stating my car had to be towed, when I explained to him we have a towing agency through our insurance and I could verify if my car was towed into the shop. He then changed his response and said it wasn't towed in it was pushed in and then I questioned did they push it in from Firestone which my spouse drove to first and he had no answer. I also asked my spouse if the car was towed in or pushed in and they said it was not and a younger female with long nails inspected the car with my spouse present and the car started. The regional manager, is providing inaccurate information for damage brought on by his workers and trying to displace blame, he is making inconsistent claims and what could be see as lying. I have emailed pep boys (no response) and talked to their regional manager but they will not make this right. My spouse has confirmed the car had started and when inspected by the girl with nails the car started, he drove it into the lot. Now there is an electrical issue that they caused with my car and they will not take responsibility for the damage pep boys has caused. Do not bring your car here. read more

Email to customer service This is a complaint regarding an employee at your Santa Fe Springs ca location. After requesting to change front breaks and front passenger rotor, I received a rude and uninformative experience lacking customer service from an employee named Maria during the consultation call and while denying service picking up my car. She did not inform me company policy of changing both front rotors. When I asked Maria why didn't she tell me rotors have to be replaced in pairs, she twisted my words around saying that i said "No, you said you wanted them both changed." The customer should not have to deal with arguing over who is right or wrong. The Employee should Admit the mistake, apologize, and ask if there's anything else we can do. Unfortunately she wasn't trained well in customer service and it shows. A lot of my time has been waisted from this experience. if Maria would have told me when I dropped off my car that rotors are changed in pairs. I wouldn't have left my car with pepboys and on top of that the rude customer service is inexcusable. My brothers left the lights on in his car so of course the battery died. He called pep boys they have towing - but the man was so cool he gave him a jump instead of towing him and charging him $75.00 so that was so Nice. When we got to pep boys to replace the battery right away the girl at the front desk came out to greet my brother and give him paperwork to fill out. Two guys checked the battery they were so nice and friendly. They let my brother know his battery is good for 3-5 years, he's on his third year. They reinforced the fact that he did not need a new battery at this time, it proved to be strong. He just needs to stop leaving his lights on . Honestly is a PLUS they could have charged him and had him get a new battery but they didn't. I love this place ! In the past and even now they have the best hospitality. I myself will go here for oil changes if if it's a drive, it's worth it. read more

Went in for an appointment at 11 am on 6/24/24 which was setup by my father since my birthday present was getting my car maintained. I also don't love going to mechanics alone just for the simple reason as a young woman they don't give the best customer service and try to scam you; however, my father works throughout the week. Well my generalization was yet again confirmed because the guy at the desk, with a beard, light brown hair wish I got his name. Asked me what the appointment was for I said my headlight, and he said the light or the bulb? I told him it was not the bulb since it was changed and was probably a fuse/wiring issue. He basically said they don't do that and I asked him why was my father able to make an appointment and somebody spoke to my father confirming they could fix the issue? He basically said I don't know who said that and didn't want to help me at all just told me to go to the dealership. On top of that he was extremely rude and didn't really seem to care about my issue, so basically this place will waste your time and try and make you feel dumb for even asking for their help. Women beware! Maybe if these guys were a little nicer and seemed to actually care about their customers needs they wouldn't have such bad reviews. So I go into Pep boys today to discuss some coupons I have to try and lower the bill on all the services I have. I ask the first guy at the counter (no name tag) who's on the phone for help. He kinda shrugs me off. That's fine, I get it, he's on the phone. Next guy that comes out is "Joe" (no last name, no name tag - must be a thing at this pep boys to not have name tags). So I tell him I found coupons for service on the vehicle. He right away try's to finish the coupons without looking at them, stating it's for in-store sells purchase only, not for repairs or service. ‍. I found that interesting since one of the coupons clearly state 25% off repairs or service. Joe then proceeds to pick up a coupon and pointing to it stating "can't you read"? Now I don't know about you, but in my profession, we can't treat customers that way. So I proceed to ask for his name. He refuses to give me his name, and proceeds to speak Spanish to the next customer, ignoring me completely. I then ask to speak with the manager or supervisor. He told me to call 1-800-pepboys. Again, very unprofessional. I then see a cashier and ask her to speak with a manager or supervisor. She stated the same exact message as "joe". Call 1-800-pepboys. So I was clearly getting no where with these two. So I contacted 1-800-pepboys and was able to make a complaint against "Joe". I was then asked to get the name of the cashier that refused to get me a manager. When I got her name, her statement when I was walking out was "what did I do"? I don't know what training these employees go through, but treating customers with respect is clearly not on their required training list. read more

Great staff here. Didn't feel pressure to add anymore services than I needed. They attended to my car quickly and had me out in less than 2 hrs which is amazing. Really appreciate how they really hone in on what your car needs at the moment compared to other places that make you feel like your car is about to melt into nothing if you don't do the 500 things to it they want you to. Today it was the regular managers day-off and Mark Guitirrez who was at the service desk should have just stayed home. I have been bringing in a fleet vehicle to this location for going on two years for regular oils change every 3,000 miles. He got irritated because he had to check the vehicles odometer reading. I am never asked for it, ever. Then he said, "My computer won't let me continue unless I fill in the details.". He then asked for the name of the fleet company and I pointed to the car keys next to him at his work station that the name and company phone number is on the key ring. He didn't look at it and kept repeating himself. Then asked for a company representative name for authorization. I stated, "If you call the number someone will answer and give you the authorization." He then rolled his eyes at me and said with a big smile on his face, "Well this 'fat boy' is not going to service your vehicle today.". He place the car keys to the left side of him on the counter and to me to come back with information he asked for... I am appalled that he never called the fleet company and used the language towards me. I am sorry the regular manager was not in today to assist me, who is very, nice, professional and excellent knowledge of communication with fleet company's authorization for work. I took my vehicle here about a week ago to try and get an oil change. A worker (Jay) tells me they can't do the service because my oil pan bolt is stripped because the car is old. He also tried to say it was stripped by whoever worked on it before. He quotes me to replace the bolt and pan. After leaving the shop, my car begins to leak oil in my driveway (never had oil leaking before that visit). I filed a corporate complaint and no one from this location contacted me within the 24-48 hour Pep Boys protocol. Corporate then escalated my case as a lack of communication report. No one responded that same day per the Pep Boys protocol. I call corporate again who confirmed that, still, no one is responding to the complaint. I call the shop location afterwards and a manager (Richard) answers the phone. He tells me he wasn't able to speak with the mechanic for days. That was never communicated to corporate nor myself the entire time I waited for a response under the company policy. He further tells me that my "stripped bolt" was hard to remove. He also tried to tell me my car was already leaking oil which, again, my car has never leaked oil. He did tell me they went above and beyond to cover their end which is exactly what it seems like because this doesn't sound like customer service at all. read more
