I am soooo far behind on my reviews. I came here in May and forgot to do my review you'll now. I took my mom here for her birthday. She loves Mexican food and we were out in this area for a weekend vacation. The server was nice. She recommend the Pina Colada for me, it was nice and not overly sweet. At the end of our meal, she got us the fried ice cream for dessert. It was delicious! I don't remember at this point what entrees we got, but I remember being impressed with the rice. It had a good amount of flavor that most Mexican restaurants usually miss. I would definitely recommend this restaurant when you're in the area!

    Refried beans and Spanish rice.

My first visit, so I ordered basic taco plate with rice and beans and chicken tortilla soup to try. Rice and beans all dried out from sitting under heat lamp too long ( says hostess). She brought fresh order, they weren't dried out but still very band and dry. Ground beef taco and chicken taco both very salty. My guess is chicken from a can with seasoning added. Tortilla soup was also salty. I'm going to have to fail this restaurant and not return.

My only complaint is we waited longer than we felt we should have to finally see our server and give our drink order. Food was very good, enjoyed all of it. Sorry, we started eating before I realized I hadn't taken a picture! Great atmosphere, music and decor!

Another Mexican Restaurant, I sometime ask myself aren't they all the same? I think it's difficult to be anything but typical if you're a Mexican Restaurant. I've found very few that separate themselves from the one down the road no matter what direction you go, it seems the business model has long ago been established - pile on the high carbohydrate selections, serve giant pre-mix margaritas and make sure the draft Mexican Beers are served ice cold in a heavy glass, of course don't forget the bottomless basket of free chips and salsa. Honestly I rarely love Mexican Restaurants that have names I can pronounce - the easier the pronunciation the less authentic is my rule of thumb. I found myself here two nights in a row, no it wasn't because I'm a die hard Mexican food fan or that I can't resist the urge to over indulge - this was more about accommodating a few out of town work associates, the close proximity of our hotel and uhm that's it I guess or yeah it was happy hour, dinner time and we wanted to wash away the work day. First visit - a Tuesday night this place was busy, it's seems Tuesday night is Mexican Food night in Tavares. The restaurant was filled with servers running around delivering food and drinks from the bar, our server was extremely friendly dressed for tips in her short shorts and making multiple stops at our table to bring items that she forgot, if she was solely judged on attentiveness she gets five stars because she was at our table apologizing all night. Our drinks arrived one at a time the complimentary chips and salsa were refilled often and our second round of queso arrived long before our entrees, it was so obvious the kitchen was struggle she threw in the cheese dip for free. I ordered the steak chimichanga it arrived hot with lots of beans and rice along with the assortment of guacamole, sour cream the chopped vegetables and another one of the many beers we consumed. The food looked like I expected, it tasted as I expected and the portion was what I expected. Second Visit - the following Wednesday night, the atmosphere was very different, the restaurant was empty, the wait service was a mere skeleton of the night before and it was much more subdued it was like the festival had ended the night before and we arrived after the party ended. Our server was focused but boring, no bubbly personality it was as if he drew the short straw and had to work, but he did provide everything we needed but again forgetful (it now appears training is not a priority here). I decided to scale back, I had a few chips and ordered the number nine combo - the stuffed fried poblano, a chicken tamale and a ground beef taco no rice, no beans and a half dozen ice cold Dos Equis ambers to wash it all down. It was the typical Mexican Restaurant experience just okay...

This restaurant experience was exceptional from the time I walked through the door, the staff was very welcoming and the restaurant looked immaculate. After spending a few moments looking over the menu posted at the entrance to the counter I decided on the beef flautas and a few beef tacos, after having the food delivered to my table I quickly realized my eyes were definitely bigger than my appetite was - this was definitely a feast meant for two. Before diving in I made my way to the sauce bar, so many choices, so many choices, so many choices - I decided on hot and extremely hot even though I knew an ice cold beer wouldn't be an option knowing I still had unfinished business to do later in the afternoon (so unfortunate). I appreciated the side of chips that came with both platters but there was no way I was filling up on these when I had such a beautiful selection in front of me - I started with the flautas and they were heavenly, so fresh and hot with the perfect amount of filling and texture, the hot sauce which I can't for the life me remember their names were the perfect pairings. I decided to stop short from finishing them to leave room for the tacos which I ordered "as they come" - seasoned ground beef, cheese, tomatoes, sour cream and onion in a crispy shell all I can say is these were highly pleasing to the senses. I'm so glad I decided to give Tijuana Flats a second try, it's definitely back on the list of "A" list of options when it comes to fast and delicious taco cravings. The staff was very efficient and friendly and I got a courtesy check after my food came out just to make sure everything was to my liking and even an offer to refill my drink - this goes way beyond what fast food customers like myself are accustomed to but I liked it and very much appreciated it. So in case you need to be reminded a restaurant doesn't need to be high end to reward good service or for the employees to earn gratitude - these guys even bus the tables and sanitize between customers, like I said this isn't the typical fast food restaurant so show some appreciation. I do plan on returning but I promise I'll order less food the quality, portions and price all exceeded my expectations...

Seriously, I get ground beef tacos and they have no more than about a tablespoon of beef. The rest is mostly lettuce. Last week I got 2 beef crunchy tacos. Ordered with lettuce, cheese, and Jalapeno. Barely a tablespoon of meat, a few strands of cheddar cheese, filled mostly with lettuce. There were 2 slices of Jalepeno on one Taco, the other had 3. I really think that, for the price, you could make a much better taco. With a fountain drink, and a tip, those two tacos came to over $13. Love to go there for the hot sauces , but you really skimp on the skinny tacos. Dos Tacos not worth $10.79 Plump 'em up or make it 3 .

Husband and I have been searching out really good Mexican food since leaving Los Angeles in 2012…read more It's been a frustrating and unproductive search so far. A friend recently recommended La Chiquita, located in an area that we don't pass by often. We made a special trip just to order up their burrito. Maria greeted us and took our order. Was STUNNED to find they serve Lengua! For only $6.99, we got their massive, made-to-order beef tongue burrito with all the goodies (salsa verde, grilled jalapeño, onions, cilantro, etc). We also ordered a Lengua taco. We didn't dine in, so our food was neatly packed up for us. The burrito certainly was huge, to say the least. The tortilla was thin and warm, clearly homemade...and it was Fantastic! Definitely the best tortilla we have tasted since LA. The tongue, however, was not as tasty as we were hoping. The meat was tender but lacked flavor. The filling of rice, beans and vegetables was enjoyable. The taco though....it was outstanding! I wish we ordered a few more. At $2.49, it's a great deal! Topped with fresh onion and cilantro, a squeeze of lime and the amazing salsa verde. What a delicious taco. Can't wait to try more on our next visit to La Chiquita.

The three of us ordered the $15.99 3 white enchiladas platter and the $14.99 3 ground beef tacos platter to share, ate until we were full and still took home a to-go-box. The restaurant brought us extra plates and serving spoons so we could split the food into individual portions with ease. It's possible to substitute sides without an extra charge, and we love the freedom of being able to customize. I love the Mexican rice with refried beans. Therefore, I substituted the lettuce, tomato and sour cream "salad" side that comes with the three enchiladas for refried beans, making the sides Mexican rice and refried beans. The tacos came with cilantro rice, which tasted like standard cilantro rice. My mom preferred the Mexican rice instead. The tacos only come with one side and adding refried beans is not cheap; it's an additional $4.99. The tacos were stuffed and the filling overflowed onto the plate. The taco shell tasted good, but the shell wasn't up the task of holding all those ingredients and broken apart a little more than half way through. It was finished with knife and fork but still remained delicious. The chips and salsa are plentiful. They volunteered refills. We accepted extra salsa which we used for extra seasoning on the tacos. The restaurant decor is basic Mexican themed - substantial wood chairs, tables and booths. However, booths and chairs have both seats and backs padded for comfort. There is a stocked bar along the back wall, but it's not a "bar scene" place. It's an option for singles dining alone who don't want a table or a space to grab a drink while waiting for your party. There was a large television tuned to a sports station for entertainment. There is outdoor seating, which is directly off the shopping center's parking lot. Therefore, cars line the outdoor sidewalk/eating area. What the outdoor area lacks in ambiance, it makes up for by being dog friendly.

It's still the same family running it, and the quality has remained consistently excellent all these years. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and served piping hot. Their salsa and guacamole are some of my favorites, the margaritas are fantastic, and the menu has so many options that it's honestly hard to decide what to order because everything sounds good. The service has always been friendly, attentive, and welcoming. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers and take pride in what they do. My family and I have celebrated countless birthdays and special occasions here over the years, often bringing large groups because we know we can always count on a great experience. The staff does an excellent job, even when our party is large, and they consistently make everyone feel welcome. The restaurant is always clean and has a warm, inviting atmosphere, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal with family and friends. It's not easy for a restaurant to maintain this level of quality and consistency for over a decade, but they've done exactly that. If you're looking for authentic, delicious Mexican food with excellent service, this is the place to go. I highly recommend it.
