Pretty empty on a Friday about 7:30, food was good, a little pricey. If you order with chips be aware you get quite a few, if I went again I would split the chips with others. I got a bowl with the plant based chorizo which was really good. They have a choice of beans, and choice of salsas or guacamole with the chips which cost extra. Awful experience, extremely subpar food. For those not familiar with a Salsarita's, it's the EXACT same thing as Moe's, Chipotle, and Blue Coast. I'll start by saying that this was our first time in the restaurant. The only reason we knew about them was a neighbor had a catered meal that was actually very good from them. The chips were extra seasoned, the meats were all hot and fresh, the sides and salsas were nice and flavorful and it made us want to go and have a meal at their restaurant. Unfortunately, that's where the good notes completely ended. We went into their Providence shop on Labor Day and were served by a younger guy who was nice enough, but seemed like he was punching the clock and an older lady in a mask (still) who was very much not having her best day. After we'd ordered, (we got a quesorito, a bowl, and both got combos with chips, salsa, drinks, and chips), we got to the table with the food and dug in. While the chips were nowhere NEAR as good or as seasoned as their catered offering we'd sampled several months prior and the queso was hella bland, the "hot" salsa was not only NOT hot but just tasted like tomato water, the biggest offender was the entrees themselves. The wife's bowl was 97.4% rice with barely any meat, my quesorito (burrito covered in queso) was filled to capacity, but BOTH of them were SO cold and SO bland. It is ever so clear that they do not use ANY kind of seasoning AT ALL when preparing their meats and sides. Like, not even a taco seasoning or nothing. While they did have salt and pepper out (which you shouldn't have to use), to give either of our dishes any semblance of flavor, the hardest thing for me was the concern about the food safety levels of their meats and queso. Everything was SO cold, it couldn't have possibly been properly heated at the food station bar. I opted for some shredded cheese inside my burrito. After I'd finished ordering, paid for my meal, got my drink, got my napkin and salt and pepper/fork and knife, found a table, and gotten seated, at least 5-7 minutes had elapsed since they'd made my burrito. The shredded cheese inside should have THOROUGHLY melted (in addition to the fact that I got not so "hot" queso poured on top of my burrito. Unfortunately, that was far from the truth. Everything inside was STONE cold. To top it all off, each of our combos was FIFTEEN DOLLARS. Seriously?! $15 per person for stone cold, bland, almost inedible food? Worst customer service. The person at the cashier was extremely rude and did not explain any of the charges and seemed annoyed when asked a question of, who drink is this? They had customers standing in line waiting so they could complete an online order. Came in around 2:00 for a late lunch. Employees were friendly enough, all of the meats looked like they'd been sitting there untouched for several hours. My burrito was good, but not great. I also got chips and verde salsa, the woman put the salsa cup in the bag of chips, which I discovered when I got home. Of course the lid had come off and the salsa spilled all over everything. Half of my chips were a soggy mess and I didn't have enough salsa for the other half. Not sure why this location doesn't have a salsa bar like other locations do, even before the pandemic they didn't. It's called salsaritas! Too expensive for the small portions we were given. $23.45 total for two. My two tacos had a tablespoon size of ground beef, shredded cheese, and black olives. Small size of chips with hot salsa when I asked for mild. My daughter ordered the $8.99 burrito and they still charged her extra for each tablespoon of sour cream, etc., with no chips with salsa included. We noticed when we entered the restaurant at lunchtime that it was empty. That should have been a sign something was wrong and we should not eat there. First, the positive. The taste of the food was excellent. Much fresher and more authentic than Chipotle. Oh, a side note. This place is akin to Chipotle. I wanted a sit-down restaurant where they serve chips and salsa and it's a relaxing atmosphere. So I was disappointed in that regard. That being said the food tasted great. The negative...they are MUCH more skimpy with their portions. I always leave Chipotle feeling full. Not this place. I could eat another meal. Also, they are much more expensive than Chipotle. I always get a chicken bowl and a drink. At Chipotle, it's 8 bucks and some change. Here, it was over $11. I probably won't come back simply because it's more money and you don't get as much. I have been using Salsarita's for catering for a yrs- the food is always good but the service has consistently gone down- I placed a catering order last week to be delivered today at 11:30AM. Well the time came so I called them to make sure someone was on the way. The girl that answered said well, we had an emergency remodel over the weekend so they cancelled all the catering orders-- WTH!! I was furious- and had to scramble to get lunch for 20 people. As ALWAYS, they don't have any shrimp cooked and "it will be twenty minutes to cook some shrimp". No apology for not having any ready when it is clearly slow and no reason to not have it ready. This is a great place to get some Tex Mex vittles. I went some short years ago and recently went back again. First I like that the restaurant was very clean and the staff was very very friendly and that is always a plus for me. I got the two taco special with chips and salsa and a drink. I also added a side of queso. I was also pleased that they offer hard shell tacos in addition to the soft ones. Also they have fresh chopped red onions! I know this may not seem like much but when I go to other places like Chipotle they don't have the onion by itself or they have grilled onions...it is in the pico de gallo which is alright but I prefer it separate. The manager came out and asked if everything was okay and if I needed anything and as a customer that made me feel appreciated. The ingredients seem to taste very fresh. I enjoyed the meal so much I went back the next day and I was thinking they closed at 9pm but it was a Tuesday and they close at 8pm on Tuesdays, so I got there around 7:30pm. I ordered the same meal and they were out of the hard shell tacos but the lady (I think she was the manager) said she would fry me up a hard shell since the fryer was still hot. I call that going above and beyond service!! I wish there were others in the vicinity and even though I live far from Mt. Juliet, I don't mind the drive to get good food with fresh ingredients, a clean establishment, friendly workers who look like they actually enjoy their job and want to be there and management who seems to care about the customers! Sure, the atmosphere is a bit gaudy, with the almost-adobe walls and the slightly too loud salsa music; however, the menu is really the draw. There is a bar chock-full of trimmings and toppings, you can custom order your meal however you please. A chicken burrito with chicken, olives and guacamole - check! Beef nachos with cheese, rice and beans? Got it. Vegetarian tacos brimming with garden-fresh goodies? It's all there! Also, if you know what you want ahead of time, feel free to call it in. Based on the food alone, i would have given this a single star. My burrito could have been good. I picked what looked like good ingredients; however, the meat was cold, the tomatillo sauce they poured over it was chilled and the service from the people making it was sub par. My husband's tacos also had cold meat in them and he had three different kinds of meat. Also, his tacos were runny... As in when he picked them up, watery liquids poured out of them. Not a good experience food-wise. Neither of us ate more than half of our food. The only reason we gave them two stars is because when the manager stopped by to check on us, we told him our issues and were immediately given our money back. I could then see that he changed out the meat on the hot bar. So hopefully our critique helped the people ordering after us receive a better meal than we did. While I appreciate that we did not pay for food we barely touched, I don't think I will be giving them another chance. Terrible catering experience. Called friday at 10am to have a catering order for 25 people. I was told they would secure my spot. I was told to call back after 12pm to place order. I did and was given a total of 354 and was told they would see me monday. Monday comes.. Monday 1140 rolls around and no show. I call and was told they would locate the driver. 1150 rolls around and I was told there was no record of my order!! Meeting of 20 people with no food ...left me scrambling. This was our first time here and I'm not impressed. The staff was all teenagers who were rude and miserable. They treated you like you were stupid if you asked questions before ordering and hated having to do their job. One coughed all over the food more than once (which I saw after I was sitting and eating!) No wonder they were pretty much empty at lunchtime on a weekend. I will say the girl at the register was more friendly. At one point, two of the kids came out to clear tables and were suddenly all smiles, which makes me wonder if their adult manager showed up or something. Very odd. The reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1: the food was okay and the price was good. They do not charge extra for guac! We probably won't be back. The 1 good thing about Salsaritas Fresh Cantina (SFC) is that it's not Taco Bell. Now whether or not that's a good thing i'm still trying to determine. I would say that I average once or twice a month dining here. Granted it's not the best Mexican food out there but I get to pick my own ingredients. Honestly, that's not saying much. Nonetheless, In my usual fashion I'll start with what I don't like about the place: In a nutshell I don't think that I've ever been to this place when there have been more than 5 tables occupied. What I don't get is that when I go up to the counter they have enough food to feed the fifth grade at the local Rutland Elementary. The problem is that the food is sometimes over cooked and looks dried up and Goopy in the buffet table. What I don't get is that while they have very few customers the meat is always mounded over the top of the hot holding compartment and it sits out all day with no cover. This service style is modeled after Chipotle but it Can't compare to that level of food and here's the reason it will never come close. * the place is hardly every spotless (considering it is never busy this should be an easy task) * Too much food is prepared ahead of time * No details in the condiments (i.e. take the stems off the cilantro before you chop it!!) * Odd specials that are more American-Mex then authentic. This boggles me as i feel that Salsarita's doesn't know what it is (i.e. is it Taco Bell or Chipotle style?) * Food Science: when you heat a piece of protein for a long time it will eventually lose it's ability to retain heat for a longer period hence I always feel that my food is cold by the time I start eating. * DETAILS: ( when I first started writing this review months ago there really was no competition for Salsarita's In the Mt Juliet area). if SFC wishes to remain in the competition they will need to subscribe to the mantra "the devil is in the details". Maybe a small paintbrush to touch up the spots of flaky paint on the cement counters or a nice coat of wax on the wood tables... While I admit to dining at SFC about a couple times a month I have to say that my dining days here are waning with the addition of Blue Coast Burritos across the street. Unfortunately SFC has had plenty of time to figure out what's wrong with the place and make changes appropriately. My primary reason for dining there was that I didn't really have this type of option in the area. Overall I wouldn't say the food is all that bad and it got me through some burrito jonesin' times afterall it is quite convenient to visit SFC because of its location. The service level almost seems to have improved when the other burrito joint broke ground across the street - maybe coincidental. But overall the ingredients are cheap as is the price of a meal here so it's not out completely for me. There are still some improvements that SFC can continue to make and I'm confident that the management will take notice as the restaurant gets less and less business due to the local competition. I'll be back in another month or two to check it out. read more
