This is a long overdue review. I came to Salt Air in June for dinner during my bachelorette party weekend; let's say they did not disappoint. As someone who now lives in the Midwest and does not have access to fresh seafood anymore, I wanted a place that would offer seafood and other options for those who are not seafood lovers like myself. This is my final review. I'm gonna summarize the experiences within this restaurant to give an accumulative look at what it is like to dine here First of all the food is immaculate. The chef is outstanding. One meal is better than the other. They don't nickel and dime you like some places on the beach, but instead you are paying for luxury and you are getting luxury at a fair cost . Outrageous delicious food and impeccable drinks . Try the fried shrimp boil and the muscles . They have the best dirty martini I've ever had we come all the way from Brooklyn just for the dirty martini. Now for some cons. They leave the basket of crackers that you get at the beginning right near the bathroom and it's very strange. They're all uncovered and kids can pass by and touch them after going poo poop. They really need to fix that. While service is wonderful the management is a bit odd. The people who introduced themselves as managers are always rude to staff and customers. To the managers you need to understand that customers do not have to spend their money here and it is because of customers that you exist here and make your money so you need to be kind when people are placing reservations and when people are coming to see you, especially when they're coming this far and especially when you're surrounded by great people and you're ruining it for them. I also hope that you pay your staff abundantly because it is because of them that the restaurant is succeeding. While you might not have all the power you do have some when it comes to allocating resources so I need you to relay to upper management how important this is and when you do your work, take it into consideration. Moving on the happy hour is awesome and longer than the other happy hours around town. The bar is cozy and service is up to par. Salt Air is Our best experience on the beach and the funny part is we came in 2020 and it was not good but they really turned things around. Family of 10 dinner on a Sunday night. Although they were extremely crowded we received excellent service. Everyone loved their food, highlights being the charcuterie board for an app, the grilled Tuna and fluke. All entrees were perfectly cooked. In case you haven't checked the menu it is expensive however we felt the value was fair. The only hang up was when they brought our entrees out there was one missing however it only took a few minutes for it to arrive. We look forward to returning! read more

This was always our go-to restaurant for a fancy night out. They've been bought by Atlas, which had speedily crappified their menu. What previously was gluten free, now has gluten. No more classic cole slaw. Instead, you get incredibly bad french fries. Seriously? In a restaurant where you're dropping $200 for dinner - you get FRENCH FRIES like a crappy tourist trap? Very disappointed in the menu since the Atlas Group took over from Big Fish. Gluten free options are diminished. The crab cakes in particular are no longer GF. They did offer to ask the chef if he could make an entree that I wanted GF, but it wasn't possible. On a bright note, the staff is still outstanding. We were so disappointed in our experience tonight . We had so looked forward to another great dinner with our dear friends, but we were seated in the furthest dining room from The hostess station. Unfortunately we could not engage in conversation because the room Was so loud and uncomfortable. All of our ears We're Ringing and we could Not leave the restaurant fast enough. We did express our poor experience To Management and begged them To please address the acoustics issue in that room . The wine list should be updated. I love the vibe at Salt Air. Laid back, friendly waiter who never missed a beat. We started with the crab deviled eggs. I was skeptical about the jalapeño chip since I can't take a lot of heat but it provided the right amount without over powering the crab & eggs. It was a fabulous start. My hubby and I split the veal Bolognese and crispy rockfish. The veal was very hearty and delicious. A nice dish for a cold night. I've been hearing great things about this restaurant from the locals, so I thought why not try it out! This place has tons of seating whether at a table, high table or bar, but don't let that fool you, you still need a reservation. The Parmesan crackers and whipped goat cheese that is served before your meal was pretty good. I loved my pumpkin martini! You even get another pour because it comes out with the shaker too! Double the tastiness! I enjoyed my blackened scallops with fettuccine. The scallops were beautifully cooked, you could easily slice through with the edge of your fork! My friend had the free bird which was moist but maybe too moist because it was sitting on a bed of grits. May be better served over farro or mashed potatoes. Docking off one star because I went with a larger group, and a server (not our main server, but one helping out) put down the incorrect food in front of me, I politely stated it was for the person on the other side of the table (and pointed to the correct person), this server rolled her eyes. High Energy Hot Spot with Very good food. The service was ok, only issue is they are packed on the weekends and a bit understaffed. All 6 of us were happy with our selections. They start with nice cheese crackers and a homemade herb butter. The blackened tuna was cooked to exactly how it was asked for, and it was fresh and tasty, served with seasoned rice. They accommodate parties in the bar area which causes the overall noise level to be a bit high, as are the guests, but not in any bad way. This use to be my favorite restaurant in Rehoboth for over 10 years. Unfortunately that changed tonight. First, the prices have always on the high end but now border absurdity. Crab cakes for $64! Ordered the seafood stew which I have always requested no shell fish which was always accommodated with no issues and they always OFFERED to add additional fish, shrimp and scallops at no charge. I was told tonight that they could accommodate but there would be an up charge. When the dish came the bowl was considerably smaller than usual and there were no scallops. They may have added 2 extra shrimp and the upcharge was $10. read more

I gave Salt Air 3 stars a few years ago... but after this recent trip I feel compelled to lower it to 2. This place is booked solid every single night and I have no idea why. We arrived at 6pm and were told it would be a 1.5 hour wait for a table for 2. We decided to sit at the bar. I mean, how could a place with THIS many people eating here every night be bad? I've been here 3 times now and every time we leave saying, "meh". This time we left saying- we will not be back. We started with the crab toast. After one bite we realized the bottom was COMPLETELY burned black. How could they serve this? We sent it back to the kitchen. Our entrees came out... eventually. My salmon was well cooked and the veggies were fine. But, it lacked seasoning. My husband's steak was way under cooked. They ask their patrons to cut into the steak when they bring it to the table. Why?! They should know if it's the correct temperature before serving it. It was way under cooked. Had to send that back too. SIGHHHHHHH! So many better places in Reho. Why wait 1.5 hours to eat here? Not worth the wait. read more

This place gets booked up fast and no wonder. EXCELLENT. We walked up on a week night and they were able to squeeze in a table for two around 8:30 pm. We had the seafood stew and the shrimp fry. Both fantastic. The service was impeccable. The complimentary cracker and cheese spread was also very nice. Very fast service and our server checked on us multiple times. This was our first time at Salt Air. We frequent other BF restaurants regularly. I felt rushed when we arrived. We ordered drinks and before we even received them, our waitress asked if we wanted to place our order which I thought was weird. We only saw our waitress a few times- when she took our order, we asked to order more drinks, and when we asked for the check...someone else brought out our food and drinks. Our food itself did not take that long but our drinks first and second rounds took extremely too long to make it to our table - upwards of 20 minutes! It was very difficult to find our waitress to flag her down. The waitress didn't ask us anything, no check ins to ask how anything was, nothing. The restaurant was very busy however, we did see other servers, and a manager even delivered a drink for us. If I didn't know other BF restaurants that I go to and enjoy I would probably never be back based on the service alone. Meals were just ok, again, I have had better from the brand. For the price tag, I think there are far better options close by based on this experience. read more

Had dinner early since we were going to the Space Theater for Rock of ages. Sat right down at a high top table for 2 in the bar. Bar tenderers were very attentive. A beautiful girl from Romania was our waitress/ bartender. She was very knowledgeable and her recommendations were spot on. We enjoyed the mussels and clams and shrimp happy hour specials. Got reservations for dinner. To start, I ordered the Burley Oak Sea Heathen Pilsner, which came with a frosted glass. Others at my table ordered cocktails and wine, which they have an extensive list. My meal was the Salmon, which was cooked perfectly and accompanied by corn salsa, cream, and guacamole. My partner had the Mahi, and enjoyed it quite a bit. The others diners at our table got crab cakes and a cheese board - all excellent dishes that came out promptly, and enjoyed just as quick. For dessert, I had the Nutella ice cream. My partner got the lemon blueberry crème brûlée. Both exceeded expectations. From fast and friendly service to eclectic interior, Salt Air is worth your time! read more

High marks for food, drinks, and service. We sat at the bar for happy hour on a weekday so it was easy to grab a seat. Not sure why people would wait in line for this place- everything is delicious but nothing super unique. We enjoyed the Michelada clams and wings. The flavor of the clams were amazing but we wish we had more bread to finish the sauce. The smoked wings were so tender and the dip that came with them wasn't the usual ranch or bleu cheese so good to try something different. This is a very challenging review to write..... an iconic restaurant where it is impossible to get reservations it's always so busy. But tonight they totally missed the mark for 3 out of our party of 4. The good- we didn't have reservations and were able to get a high top in the bar area. The service was solidly good. That portion of the evening was a 3 star. Now, the food. We had a party of 4. 2 people ordered the tomato bisque. When it as delivered to the table it looked beautiful, a dollop of goat cheese on top. The issue was the soup was barely warm. They sent it back, and when it returned to the table it was at least warm, but not hot.It was flavorful but very thick, an odd consistency for soup, but tasty. It would have been better if really hot. Entrees, one in our party had the crab cakes and she really enjoyed them. One person had the pierogi appetizer and said they tasted like frozen ones from the supermarket. One person had the chicken thighs ~ there was so much breading it was difficult to find the meat. They were overcooked and had a strange flavor to the sauce that was on them. It was very salty and greasy. I had the Lobster and saffron carbonara. At $41,00 I had high expectations and was totally let down. The pasta was a very, very thick spaghetti, there was 1 tiny bit of pancetta, zero saffron, barely if any carbonara sauce, it was quite dry and it was totally flavorless. There were 2 pieces of lobster claw meat which was good, but maybe 3 ounces ? Very disappointing. I would have sent it back but was so turned off there was nothing else I wanted. Two in the party ordered lemon bars. They were very large, i bit hard, and rather flavorless. We are used to lemon bars being a bit delicate and very flavorful.The accompanying ice cream was good. A very dissatisfying and disappointing evening, our check was $119 for the 2 of us, that was one soup, the lobster, the chicken,,we each had 2 mixed drinks, and one lemon bar. Our friends check was $90 for a soup, an appetizer, the crab cakes, 2 glasses of wine and a lemon bar. The food is quite good. The fried shrimp and a large mound of fries are a good dish to share. The roasted artichokes salad consisted of a lettuce leaves and a few tasteless segments of dried artichokes. The Caesar salad was a mixture of lots of croutons , old Romain lettuce and ordinary dressing ( no anchovies). The wine selection is uninteresting and way ,way overpriced. For example, Cloudy Bay, a SB from NZ is a decent wine (90-91) which retails for about $25. The wholesale price is less than $20. The price on Salt Air 's menu is $118- a mark up of 6 times the wholesale price. The rest of the wines are equally way overpriced. read more

The service by our waitress, Sherry, was top notch. She was very attentive to our table of four's needs as well as other staff members. I enjoyed the best cornbread I've ever had! It wasn't your typical buttery type, but more of a true southern corn style. My dinner was a pork chop dish that came with collard greens and flavorful grits. Everyone at my table agreed to freshly prepared and delicious meals. The dim lighting, art decor and wall paintings felt very relaxing no matter where you sat. This night there was a blend of 70's R&B playing. Great vibe. If you receive great service, ask to be charged $15. This allows you to give back to all the kitchen staff. They get treated to drinks after their shift. Well deserved! I was proud to ring the bell to which I received thankful cheers. We will all return. I love salt air. I've been here so many times. Tonight, I was disappointed. I ordered the halibut, which is not cheap. It is $42. The plate that was delivered to me with perhaps 2 ounces of fish on the plate. It was a pathetic dish for a high end restaurant. I told the waitress who brought it back to the kitchen. She returned with the same plate telling me that they weighed it and that it was 7 ounces. This is simply not true. I am attaching a picture with my finger for perspective. After 20+ years of going to Rehoboth at least a few times a year, this restaurant is still my favorite of all time in Rehoboth. It consistently has good food, good cocktails, really nice vibe and decor. It's not cheap, but it's also not the most expensive, and it's better per dollar than any other place within walking distance of downtown. The cheese baked crackers they bring out in place of rolls are delectable, and their new mock-tail menu is quite exciting. The service was well paced, and there was something on the menu for everyone. I got scallops, and while the scallops themselves were delightful, the rice was too spicy for my taste. I was expecting a great experience coming here after reading the reviews. We had a reservation but had to wait about 20 minutes and were treated awkwardly getting our table. I did very much enjoy the complimentary crackers and dip they brought to the table. The tempura battered soft shell crab snack was small and the corn mixture underneath was ok. The sweet and Smokey scallops were good too, but for $39 I would expect a bigger dish. The salt air's famous shrimp fry was by far the best dish to get. Large servings of perfectly cooked shrimp and fries for a decent price of $26. I ordered the coconut crusted tofu and it was so awful I sent it back. No crust. The most bland tofu I ever tasted. I do not recommend ordering this dish. I ordered a waterside wedge salad in its place. I found the combo of flavors a bit off. Or perhaps I was just turned off at this point. They had great craft root beer with a vanilla foam float. My son loved it. My daughter got a nice kids meal with chicken tenders fries and broccoli. The broccoli was unseasoned and needed salt. Which was taken away from the table when we sat down because the table is small. They actually have a very nice selection of kids meals. Overall a very mixed bag at a high price point. What a delight! I decided to come here with my mother on a beach trip based on the positive Yelp reviews, and was not disappointed. We were lucky to get a reservation for a Thursday night (quick tip: do not expect to be seated before your reservation time. Our reservation was for 5:15pm and we arrived around 5, were told we needed to wait until all 5pm reservations were seated and had to wait a few minutes.) The Parmesan crisps were indeed crisp, and we enjoyed the spread that came with them. We split the Tempura Broccoli, which was a revelation! Perfect consistency and texture, loved the sauce, just a hint of heat but not spicy. For entrees, my crab cakes were excellent, the best I've had in years. My mother got the shrimp fry, which she also enjoyed, the portions are very generous. I plan to return during a future beach trip and save room for dessert! read more

Walked in around 6:00 on a Saturday and was seated immediately but went to the bar area. The bartender was so nice and helpful making suggestions so we tried the blueberry martini and a margarita. Took awhile to place our order but the bar was crowded at this time so understandable. For dinner we ordered the crab cakes (which FYI are gluten free) and famous shrimp fry *warning - is such a large portion of a meal* also the appetizers we ordered were mussels and shishito peppers. Service was pretty quick once we got order placed and staff was attentive to my daughter's gluten free requests due to celiac (so big thank you to them)! Service was good. Our waiter was attentive. Chef was abysmal. My dad ordered a medium filet mignon. It looked great on the outside, but it was very clearly rare on the inside. The waiter apologized and took the steak back. They cooked the steak some more and brought back an overcooked piece of cardboard. The waiter looked at it, shook his head, apologized, brought it back, and came back with a new steak, about 1/4" thick. I've never had a 1/4" filet before. It was definitely some other cheap cut, not a filet. And this was another piece of cardboard. We finally gave up and just left. I felt bad for the waiter. He looked so embarrassed but there wasn't much he could do. Can't make up inedible food with great service. Horrible chef. Great waiters. Don't go to this restaurant. My partner and I had a lovely date night at Salt Air this past July. It was during the small window when we all started to feel safe eating inside again, so everywhere was packed. The service was beyond excellent. The current and training wait staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. The food was good. Probably some of the classiest for Rehoboth beach. And it came without a pretentious atmosphere. You can be comfortable here in a cocktail dress or in jeans and a top. We even saw a few families dining.
