This restaurant has great decor but mediocre tourist trap food. The salad with beets and goat cheese didn't have any goat cheese and the beets were served whole as if the chef forgot to cut them up into manageable pieces. The two fish dishes we ordered were cooked well but the sauces were bland and tasted like they were pre made at a supermarket. The one desert we wanted was unavailable because it had not finished baking; it was 8:30pm. Nothing making me want to return. It seemed like the chef was lazy and uninspired. I was visiting my sister who lives in Marin & enjoyed a remarkable luncheon at this downtown Tiburon restaurant nearby the docks (sorry, no water views). It's tiny with limited seating but was packed on the day we were there so be sure to make reservations in advance. The crab appetizer was superb & out of this world made with ripe avocados and served with a touch of mango dressing. For my main entree, I ordered the skirt steak tacos which was more than filling. What surprised me is I asked the waiter to remove the salsa because I don't like cilantro, but instead of just putting it on the side, the chef whipped up salsa without cilantro just for me! I was amazed at their attentive personal service to details. They also offer kid-friendly choices like hamburgers with blue cheese which my teenage son devoured and couldn't stop complimenting the waiter on how good it tastes. Don't forget to try out their brunch menu served on Sundays. I would highly recommend this restaurant & return again the next time I'm in town. BTW, paid parking is easily found down the street on the right in the lot if street parking is unavailable. read more

Great lunchtime meal here! Varied, delicious menu, a nice interior that doesn't try too hard to impress, and very nice service. We ordered a variety of things -- soup, sandwiches, fries, tacos, and all were delicious. Some are tried and true classics (steak sandwich) and some were very imaginative new flavors (soup of the day was pureed roasted eggplant with truffle oil) -- and everything was delicious and served attentively. after biking 30 miles and camping in the rain everybody wants a nice big fat juicy burger at a decent price. everything in tiburon is expensive but salt & pepper is better than the others while still being a few steps above a diner. i got a blackened burger with blue cheese for 16 bucks. their clam chowder is amazing, seriously, and huge - get it to share. our server, esmerelda, was really sweet & prompt. read more

My wife, kids and I had a wonderful meal at Salt & Pepper. We just happened to find ourselves downtown during a street party that was going on. All of the restaurants had tables out in the main street. The only free table we could find was for Salt & Pepper...which wasn't our first choice...but we took what we could get. Well, we couldn't have been happier. The food was not knock your socks off amazing but it was very good and very fresh - I give it a solid four stars on food. What made this such an enjoyable dinner was the tremendous service. Extremely attentive staff had several servers coming by our table to deliver bread and butter, drinks, apps, entrees, refills...always checking to make sure we were happy and had all we need. Never felt intrusive or too much...just always aware of our needs which was very surprising considering how crazy crowded the street and restaurants were that night. We noticed several servers from other restaurants chatting with each other and goofing off but Salt & Pepper servers were hustling which we appreciated and admired. Nice job. very disappointing. i expected a lot more from this place. i had the ribs, they were dry and burnt. i actually forgot what she had, but the waiter told her that it came with veal, but it was actually oxtail. he kinda argued with her about that, because it was obvious it was oxtail and not veal. a place we wouldn't want or will go back too. read more

I brought friends from NY here and each meal was equally fabulous, for us it was lovely to sit outside and the service was excellent. Small quaint dining room with tablecloths. Lots of windows but no water view. My husband ordered the Asian Chicken Salad but was not excited about it. Stopped in here for an early dinner. What a very pleasant surprise! The service was excellent and the menu has something for everyone. We both ordered the rack of lamb. Without a doubt the best I have had in a very long time. It was seasoned, and cooked to perfection. I ordered mine medium rare and my date ordered hers rare. Both were absolutely perfect. This place was ok... came here for dinner and sat in the back patio w/ our pup. We weren't that hungry so we just ordered several plates to share. They brought out warm bread and butter which is always a plus. We got a brussel sprout salad with bacon and feta or goat cheese? Didn't like that salad.. The brussel sprouts leaves were shredded instead of kept whole and there was a LOT of feta/goat cheese that was mixed in every ounce of the salad rather than sprinkled on top.. made it too creamy and salty and not fresh. The calamari was good, but it was only half calamari... there were shrimps and cauliflower pieces in there. Not sure if they ran out of calamari of that's just how they make it? A plus was they had both cocktail sauce and some sort of aioli dip for the calamari. The salmon and veggies and mashed potatoes was pretty standard as was the paella. It was a solid dinner, just nothing special about it. Service was great at the beginning but then they kind of forgot about us at the end. read more

Super nice and friendly staff great location. It wasn't terrible, but we won't be back. Our food took a very long time, and my son's ribs showed up to the table at least 15 minutes after the rest of ours. The waiter forgot our drinks even after several reminders. The food was a C. It wasn't great and lacked flavor, I didn't eat mine. I wish I could give it more stars, but it just wasn't good. I'd say if you need something to eat in the area, it's ok. Not having been here before, I'm not sure if there are better restaurants, or it's the touristy standard here. The good news was my husband ordered the calamari, and they came back to the table after speaking with the kitchen and told him it wasn't good. We were saved from a really bad night. read more

Nice place, pleasant ambiance, reasonable prices, good service, etc. Unfortunately, the food just isn't that great. I ordered the ribeye medium rare, and it was worse than well-done - it was downright burned. Although I didn't send it back, mostly because they were busy, and also because the cabernet sauce was pretty good, another customer sitting near me sent her burned ribeye back. The vegetables were also overdone and extremely over-garlicked. My husband's grilled salmon was good, though, and I have to say that the caesar salad was among the best I've ever had. But I probably wouldn't eat here again. read more

We just had a delicious meal at Salt and Pepper. Perfectly cooked wild salmon prepared two ways. Our favorite dish, though, was half dozen raw oyster "poppers". A bit of chilli spice, and flying fish row, definitely popped. We will be back! read more

Although we hoped the best for this restaurant, in our opinion, it will never be able to pull itself up. When they serve something that tastes like a frozen product, and tell you it is fresh CHILEAN seabass, and it comes loaded with bones, and tastes like it had been on land a few days too long...not good. It's absolutely not the promise they showed early on. Locals wanted it to succeed because they love New Morning Cafe and, I believe, ownership is the same. They might do better using their chefs for a breakfast/lunch menu. They have an ambitious dinner menu but the food preparation is definitely not quality. read more

Consistently great. Love S&P. It's not on the water which is actually really nice on weekends when the tourists pile in to eat at somewhere like Sams (nice view but terrible food). As a local Salt & Pepper has great food and wine - service is sometimes a little slow but the food is fresh so well worth the wait. read more

We had a salmon dish, a burger, and the banana split for dessert. The salmon and burger were well-prepared, but nothing special. The banana split was great, but its hard to mess up a banana split! We thought the service was fine and the price of the meal (~$45 for a beer, the entrees and dessert) was reasonable, especially for the area. read more

I am torn about my dinner at salt and pepper. I love the wine that we got, the wine they have at S&P is not extensive, but they have wines you don't see on most wine lists, so it was a good opportunity to try a wine from another winery. We chose a Merlot from Paso Robles...being from San Jose, we drink a lot of Napa wine, and this Paso Robles wine did not disappoint. I had the cauliflower puree which was very good. Hubby got the clam chowder, which was pretty good, it is a broth chowder, as opposed to a creamy chowder, which i think is great. Lots of celery, clams in shell and bacon. Hubby got seafood spaghetti, which hubby said was a bit bland, and sauce/broth with the spaghetti was good. I had the carbonara, it was too creamy and cheese for me, and it didn't have enough egg yolk. It came with parmesan cheese on top, which made it way too cheesy/creamy for me. Then came dessert...i got the lemon soufflé...it was very lemony, but it was not a soufflé..it was a lemony custard with a vanilla cake on top, and the whole thing topped with some berry and lemon curdy thing...in conclusion, love the wine and soups, not so much the entrees and dessert. read more

We went tonight for dinner... Wanted to try a new place in Tiburon that is not a tourist trap. Loved Rooney's and wanted to love Salt &Pepper. Very nice staff. We were greeted right away but it took a while to have someone actually take a drink order. 2 tables were seated after us and got drinks before our order was even taken. Was it because we had a teen with us? Did you think we weren't thirsty because we had a kid with us? Or that we weren't gonna have anything to drink other than water because we were not on a "date"? We finally were asked if we wanted a drink, we also put in appetizer orders. We ordered calamari & ahi tuna. When they arrived we were disappointed without even taking a taste. The tuna chunks were huge and I say that even though it sounds like a really stupid complaint, any ahi tuna eater knows, it is supposed to be nice small chunks. Our main courses were also a disappointment. I had the Chicken(Coq an vin)served with mashed potatoes... Why was it also served with stewed potatoes? Just not a great dining experience. Went there for lunch looking for an outdoor space to eat. Across the street would have been the obvious place, Sam's Anchor Cafe but didn't feel like fighting the birds for food. First off, the space was small, half a dozen small tables in a sunken funky but charming spot. The waitstaff were great. We were there for lunch at 2:40 PM and they close for lunch at 3. Of course the place was basically empty so we benefited with the attention we got. The food was overall good, I especially liked the fried calamari. You should know that almost anytime we see fried calamari on a menu, we order it. Our fried calamari IQ is quite high, I've even made it several times using different recipes. This version was superior, the pieces were bigger than normal, it was super hot and crispy crusted and soft and tender inside. What also was soft inside was the burger we split. We ordered medium rare but we got really a tartare between two pieces of soft bun. They were nice enough to split the order for us and since the patty was on the small side (12 bucks was really a bit pricey) we felt a bit embarrassed to send both halves back to get it cooked. Besides, neither of us minded that it was raw, just a bit scared about safety. The fries on the other hand, not surpassingly was hot and crisp, only issue was that it was almost exactly like a super sized order from McDonalds. Not necessarily bad but still... Last of all was the Caesar Salad. The leaves were a bit bruised (brown on the ribs) and the cheese was weird. Not parmesan like at all. It was more like a pre shredded cheese out of a bag but left out too long so some of them were a bit dried and having turned translucent. They had no taste at all, no fruity salty parmesan flavor. I think I'd go back there for the calamari is I was in the mood for that (more often than is healthy, really) but nothing else would bring me back. Too bad because the room, the back patio and the service was all spot on. read more

We are new residents here and think we have finally found a "go to" restaurant. Great menu, just the right amount of choices! Fresh ingredients and food is presented beautifully. It is priced right and service is way friendly, without being on top of you. The best clam chowder for miles, not to thick with cream but hardy with ingredients. The full bowl would be a meal with some of their great bread. No I don't own the place or work there....I took a star off for no other reason than they are not on the water. I would say, eat at Salt and Pepper or Lily Kai (Our Chinese Choice) and go over to the overpriced restaurants on the water for a drink. Or walk along the waterfront with a latte to go. TIBURON is absoluted beautiful but the restaurants seem to live for the weekend tourist. You know, the people who want a view and you don't have to serve them great food because you won't see them again or you won't see them for a long time. Salt and Pepper is a locals gem, to return to over and over again! Next we will try the little Mexican restaurant up main, we will write them up. But we know Guaymas is awful and I think the little Mexican place is more authentic and less a tourist trap with a view. Sam's is a rip! We got two bugers and our tab was over $50.00. We got a club soda w/ a splash of cranberry and they charged for a refill on top of the burger price. OK I know I gave too many reviews here.
