I have been to other Salt and Straw locations, including the locations in Newport Beach, New York City (Upper West Side), Downtown LA, and San Diego (Little Italy), but the visit I had yesterday at the Anaheim was unparalleled. We entered in at about 5:45 pm. Usually the line at this establishment is lengthy, but we fortunately only had to wait a few minutes before being helped. While in line, I noticed that the store was impeccably clean, and everyone working behind the counter were very pleasant greeting every customer that entered while they were busy assisting the other eager customers. Jacob (the name of the gentleman who helped my fiancé and I select our ice cream flavors) was incredibly patient as we tried about 8 different flavors and went above in beyond in providing us with additional flavors to sample and providing us with his ice cream flavor pairing recommendations. Normally we stick to the more traditional ice cream flavors, but wanted to try something new this visit. We were blown away by the many odd but curiously delicious flavors that were being offered. After tasting the wildly unique flavors (including Gruyere Cheese and Tomato, Arbequine Olive Oil, Rhubarb Crumble with Toasted Anise, and Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie), Jacob suggested that we pair the Rhubarb Crumble with Toasted Anise and Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie together. We loved this suggestion, and gladly obliged. Jacob even went out of his way to explain what a Chess Pie was (I had no idea what it was, but now I'm going to scope out a place to try it!), and even asked if we had a preference of which ice cream flavor scoop was stacked on top of the other scoop. What began as a spur of the moment decision to get ice cream on a hot day, turned out to be such a fun tasting experience (all thanks to Jacob!) that left us excited to return and order our next unique ice cream pairing. The employee is a guy with glasses and a beard wearing a Raiders hat just stuck his head down and ignored us completely while he counts cash. After waiting five minutes for him to even acknowledge our existence, we walked over to ask if they had more of Coffee & Lovers flavor. Instead of helping, he gave us a condescending look and snapped, "Did you look?" When we told him we already checked, he visibly rolled his eyes, refused to step in, and dumped us off onto another staff member telling them "Help them." with clear attitude. He spent the rest of the time glare-staring at customers entering the shop. You expect friendly, welcoming service in Downtown Disney, but this guy was shockingly rude and dismissive. I can't stress how much I love this place without sounding insane. Every time I'm at Disney I have to stop by & check out the new monthly flavors - was lucky to come during their summer berry series! Visited Salt & Straw in the Downtown Disney area and it was such a nice ice cream shop. The flavors are definitely unique--this summer month was focus on "farmers market" so sounds a little bizarre at first--but they're surprisingly complex and really well done like the dill + cucumber flavor, you could ask for samples. I tried several on the "limited edition" menu board. Even the ones I wasn't sure about ended up tasting good and intentional. The ice cream ingredients are certainly above average and creamy. This year, they have strawberry waffles cones, in addition to the standard cones. Soooooo tasty! The staff, of course, is nice and efficient. They were also very knowledgeable about the different ingredients in each ice cream when we inquired about it. It was busy but they were still very attentive to our needs. Lively atmosphere since it's in Downtown Disney! Unfortunately I did not really enjoy the special flavors as much as I would like even after sampling a bit. The Hong Kong milk tea flavor was too subtle, I was expecting a stronger tea flavor. The chocolate caramel smoked budino was okay, the texture of the pudding portion threw me off. I feel like the line moves pretty fast and the workers are able to help move customers around. They also offer samples of their flavors with metal spoons and you place the used spoon in a slot of the counter. I went with a split scoop cup allowing me to get two flavors: honey lavender and the pear and blue cheese. Let me start by saying I love Salt and Straw. The pie series this month is 10/10 and this was my fifth time this month getting it. I also love the staff at S&S and part of the appeal is how friendly and warm everyone is. Today missed the mark. Today I spent 10.50 on a single, split scoop in a waffle cone with a discount on the waffle cone as an AP holder and was given a microscopic amount of ice cream. It didn't fill the cone even halfway and the cashier initially rung me up for a kid's scoop because she thought it was a kid's scoop. Shame on me for being honest and telling her it was a single scoop and paying 10.50 for like 7 bites of ice cream. I'm writing this review because I'm annoyed at myself for not saying anything while I was there especially because the cashier also noticed how tiny my serving was. The staff member who served my group initially gave me the wrong flavors and then dumped them back in when I corrected him and then in a rush scooped me scoops of ice cream that filled the ice cream scoop not even halfway. I wish I had taken a picture for the ridiculousness of it but it took the worker 15 minutes to help our party of 4 (he was definitely getting trained because there was an additional wait time while he got lectured for how he was serving samples) and we were eager to get back in the park.
