Always a great late-night treat (love that they are open until 10 p.m.)! I love getting both the waffle and the ice cream, and my favorite topping is the Biscoff. The staff are always really sweet and quick with our orders. Since I really love the taiyaki, I've tried getting it in a box with a filling. I find that they are always undercooked inside, especially the tails. So now I just order the cone with a filling since I know it will be fully cooked. The ice cream portion is always generous, so it's a perfect size to split, too!
We all LOVE SomiSomi! I am not sure how they do it but their ice cream is the smoothest soft serve style ice cream you'll ever have. I like to order everything separate and eat it separately. The matcha with fruity peoples is my favorite! But honestly all of it is so good!
Presidents Day & NBA All Star Weekend Edition: They say it's Halloween everyday in SF and these can translate into a Valentine's Day and even Presidents' Day because it can be either a trick or a treat on any day in SF. The city of San Francisco there are lots of places to grab an ice treat. There is always the local ice cream parlor and the traditional crunchy scoops and cones offered with flavors such as strawberry, vanilla and rocky road and it's usually offered with sugar or waffle cone. There is one place which offers flavors like Ube and Don Juan de La matcha's favorite the matcha. It's located in Mission Bay in the city and county of San Francisco, California and not the Bay. On a February Winter stroll on Presidents Day weekend you will find hella different flavors of ice treats at Somisomi. Inside you will be able to order soft serve on a cup or Taiyaki which is a gold fish designed shape cone which can come with fillings inside with such flavors as cheddar cheese, Nutella and custard. I had the purple colored Ube and green colored matcha soft serve and it wasn't too sweet but very smooth and delicious. You can also add some toppings such as Graham cracker crumbs and coconut flakes like some in SF. Overall a great place to get ice treats in the city of San Francisco all four seasons. Every day can be "Valentine's Day" so grab a ice treat in the city of San Francisco at "Mission Bay"close by the Chase Center where the Golden State Warriors" play"they have a magical swirl of Don Juan de la Matcha and "Ube" You can get a ice treats with or without wearing "coats" you can add toppings like Biscoff crumble ,Oreo crumbs and some Captain Crunch cereal from "Quaker Oats" you can also get different "Cold Brew floats" a few blocks away from the NBA Golden State Warriors All Star " GOATs"
I got 5 pieces of assorted taiyaki: Nutella, cheddar, black sesame, red bean, and custard. The price was very reasonable at $9.75 and I liked all of the flavors. They were the right balance of crispy and gooey fresh out of the box, but also yummy reheated at home (followed the website's instructions to heat at 300 degrees in the toaster oven). Must return to try the only taiyaki flavors I have not had: matcha custard and oreo!
Fast service and flavor swirls change every week where they mix the 6 flavors in their current rotation! Unlimited toppings. The serving for the ice cream is very filling and can definitely be shared with someone else if you are full from dinner! 5/5 - Cookies and Cream / Earl Grey Swirl. Ordered a cup with oreo crumble, fruity pebble, and macaron toppings. Their ice cream base is not very sweet which makes this an easy dessert to eat! Easy to take on-the-go if you would like to walk around the area
Went to Somisomi for a late night sweet treat and had a great experience. Ordering on the tablet was very easy and I loved being able to customize the filling of the Taiyaki and the ice cream flavors. They also have a bunch of different toppings that you can add to the ice cream but I didn't get any of those. I got a custard filling with matcha ice cream and service was very fast. I went on a weekday so the store wasn't very busy but there was still a few people hanging around eating. My ice cream and taiyaki were delicious and the perfect snack after dinner.
Good service from this Somisomi! While it was a bit on the slower side when I went on a weekday evening, I still got my ube and matcha soft serve in a timely manner. It went well with the different chocolate and rainbow sprinkle toppings, and my friends and I were able to enjoy our treats in the clean shop. Would love to come back to this location & try other flavors and their taiyaki!
Did I really just pay ~$5 for some really good Ube soft serve with black sesame filling in San Francisco?! It's a plain establishment with no bells and whistles unless you count the very thoughtful placement of the area that has (in order from left to right) a trash receptacle, napkins, some paper cups, a water fountain, paper towels, and a small sink to wash your hands! It's also standing room only with one long bar in the middle of the room and another along the window - with part of it being shorter for the littles! There is one tablet to order from but you could probably put an order in online as well then you just wait. It was a great pre-game treat before a Warriors game! There was no line before a late night game but passing by after the game, they were still open (10pm!) and there was a packed house! I think it is designed to be a get it and go kind of style, which is perfect because I could see it being where people get a snack to take during a walk around this beautiful neighborhood on warmer days (with or without a dog) - there's just so much buzz in this area! Aside from the activity near the water or the Chase Center, there is a nice children's park down the street plus a dog park! Really great place to take the whole family out for a relaxing stroll with some soft serve in your hand - we will definitely come again!
The taiyaki is such a great dessert. It's a freshly made hot waffle with your choice of stuffing inside. I like to go with the nutella one. The waffle is golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside and the inside has a fluffy, light texture which goes perfectly with the slightly gooey texture of the nutella filling. It's not too heavy while still hitting the spot if you're looking for a nice light dessert! Price is super reasonable at $4.5 for 2
My wife and I love this location. It's quick, simple, and delicious. We usually each get an Upside Down Ahboong with a macaron. You can get it with a strawberry instead, but the macaron is better. The ice cream flavors are all great, and you never get tired of them since they rotate the swirls every week. We follow their Instagram for the weekly updates. With the Ahboong, you can choose a filling, like red bean, custard, or Nutella. This also keeps every bite interesting. And on top of all of that, you can choose any topping you want. I like the colorful ones, like fruity pebbles or the rainbow sprinkles. My wife likes the biscoff and oreo crumbs. What's amazing about this location is we've only ever seen one employee at any time. And they are efficient. They make the the bungeoppang, ready the soft serve, help customers with their toppings, and even take orders if the ordering kiosk has a line. But even when there is a long line, especially on game days, the wait isn't long. Somisomi will always be one of our favorite ice cream spots.
Loved this spot. They prepare the taiyaki right in front of you when you order, so everything comes out super fresh. I got the Oreo and black sesame flavors and both were delicious. The black sesame one was honestly my favorite, so rich and flavorful. Service was fast.
A delicious soft serve location that serves more "Asian" flavors. They offer regular flavors year round including milk, matcha, and ube as well as flavors that rotate regularly (monthly?). The texture of their soft serve is super smooth and creamy with no hints of iciness whatsoever. The servers also give you a very generous swirl and you can customize it with some toppings of your choice. They also offer taiyakis with different fillings and are also delicious. As for the store itself, I've been to several locations and uniformly they don't seem to offer seating. People tend to stand around the empty store just chatting while they eat their soft serve.
Really can never go wrong with any somi somi location. San Mateo or SF locations are consistent in quick service and really nice ice cream. Try the Ube

Great sweet treat on the way back to the apartment. I got the ube matcha swirl soft serve with he upside down fish. We got to choose 1 topping before he put the fish on. I got sprinkles. They even include either a macaron or strawberry. Cute little touch. The fish waffle was crispy on the outside and soft sponge-y on the inside. The matcha and ube really came thru in the ice cream. Loved it! Overall, great little treat! read more
My overall impression of Somisomi is that it's a decent sweets spot that offers a good balance in affordability and quality. Since I came on a Saturday, I expected to wait in a long line. To my surprise, the shop was a bit slow since there were only a couple of people waiting for their order ahead of me. Thanks to this, I was able to order my soft serve in no time. The decor inside Somisomi is pretty minimalistic to the point that it reminded me of the inside of chipotle instead of a dessert spot. The long communal wooden table in the middle of the place seems to send a pretty clear message to its customers: Don't get too comfortable or linger for too long; eat your food and GTHO. This might be a good explanation for why there weren't many people lingering inside there. One minor complaint I have about Somisomi is that they don't offer samplers. Although there wasn't a load of options, it still would've been nice to try a few before ordering. I ended up getting a Matcha with Pistachio swirl but somehow got a Matcha with Milk combo instead. The mix-up wasn't an issue since it was delicious. I'll just have to go back to check out the mix I originally wanted next time. read more
Stopped by after playing mini golf at stagecoach greens for a sweet treat, and we weren't disappointed by the food or service. Our somisomi fish came out warm and crispy, the filling was good, but one of ours was more doughy than the other. Overall good experience if you have never tried. read more

Amazing late night sweet treat. Friends and I passed this place after the Giants game, we noticed there was no line but lots of people enjoying cups. We were greeted kindly by the worker then ordered our cup on an iPad which was very easy. My sister and I split a cookies and crème soft serve with a waffle fish filled with Nutella. The fish was sooo good, I would visit again just for the fish. It's a fluffy waffle with several filling options. The employee asked which toppings we wanted after we ordered and payed. We only did Oreo crumbs but they asked if we wanted anything else. So not sure if there's a limit to how many you can add but there was no additional charge for the single Oreo topping which was awesome! This big cup was $7 and filled both my sister and I. They had a matcha and cookies & cream swirl, which I chose, with black sesame as my filling. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that toppings are free. There are six individual flavors and three mixed swirl flavors available at this location! I had the cookies and cream + milk swirl and it was a nice combo! Not the best vibes in here because it's very much grab n go but it gets a 5/5 cause it's open on holidays. The line is also never long and the workers are always so friendly. The only problem with this place is it's next to happy lemon and I can never decide between the two. read more

Came here with a few friends after the warriors game. Quick service and yummy (not to sweet!) soft serve options. I got the ube soft serve with a fish waffle and light black sesame filling. My friend got the black sesame soft serve which was pretty good as well. It was a nice sweet treat! There's no seating, so be prepared to stand and finish it or eat it on the way. read more

Somi Somi is a solid spot for soft serve, especially if you like more unique flavors. The soft serve itself was really good. I got the black sesame and it was smooth, not too sweet, and had great flavor. I also tried the Ah Boong, which adds a soft serve stuffed taiyaki. While the ice cream was good all around, the taiyaki was a bit of a letdown. It was more soggy than crispy, so I didn't enjoy that part as much as I expected. That said, it's still reasonably priced for what you get, and the soft serve alone makes it worth it. I'd definitely go back, but next time I'd probably skip the taiyaki and just stick with the ice cream. read more
The soft serve came with free toppings! I opted for a macaron and sprinkles. I think the matcha soft serve overpowered the taro I paired with it (but I'm a matcha stan so no real complaints there). The milk soft serve flavor kind of just tastes like vanilla icecream haha. I'll have to try the taiyaki next time! read more
I hate to say that my recent visit to Somisomi was very unsatisfying. A bit sad actually. I ordered the ube/cookies 'n cream swirl upside down ah-boong and the ube tasted like taro. The cookies 'n cream tasted like vanilla and the macaron was hard. The only part I enjoyed was the cone, which is always consistent and good. During my visit, there were 10+ people in line, 1 employee working, so longer wait times were inevitable. Employee was not welcoming and didn't look happy at all. Tough parking at this location. Lastly, no seating inside or outside so you just have to stand while eating your dessert. read more

The flavors change but they have staple flavors that don't change ( matcha, ube) The service was slow this last time. They're open decently late, so if you want a late night treat, this is a solid choice in the area. You can order at a kiosk if it's working, or you can also order with the cashier. I love how you can see the tayaki being made and that the steps of the assembly follow the decals on the glass separator. This time, I got the upside down Ahboong with red bean filling, Ube and Black Sesame swirled ice cream with Oreo Crumbs, Biscoff Crumbs, and Coconut Flakes, and a Macaron. The tayaki is always warm and fresh -- the highlight for me every time. I love the slight amount of filling they put in so it doesn't feel too heavy. Their ice cream is always dense and sweet. I feel like they must use a heavier cream than other places because it is always so thick and has great flavors. The macaron is usually a disappointment every time because they're mass produced and sit out all day, but sometimes the strawberries (the alternative option) are poor quality, so they're not usually a part I look forward to. There's standing counter space to eat at inside and free water to help cleanse the palette of all the sugary flavors. I like coming here and love when they bring special flavors out. A good chain dessert option if you're in the area! read more

After months of essentially ignoring this place after not a great experience at Livermore... I realize I may have been missing out! The flavors definitely stand out with the toppings - because the ice cream itself isn't overly flavorful toppings are a great idea imo. I recommend the Cookies n Cream with Black Sesame swirl (when it's available) - it helps balance the very nutty sesame flavor. Don't expect a whole lot of cookie flavor in Cookies n Cream. Biscoff crumbles was the cherry on top! Highly recommend. I had this on a on a Ahboong with Custard filling - the taiyaki shell was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Custard filling was not overly sweet so it was nice to have nearing the end of my "cone." I may need to set some intentionality of trying to stay away from here - not because of the experience anymore but the potential impact of this delicious calorie bomb on my health... read more

It's too bad they don't offer samples. On my recent visit they had sweet corn and honeydew as their seasonal flavors. They also had a honeydew and ube twist which I thought would be a weird combo. Wish they had honeydew and matcha twist instead. I've noticed they get really busy on Friday nights so I came on a Saturday around 2pm. You can order at the kiosk for faster service. There was only 1 employee working the front. I tried the honeydew in a cup - $4.50 and I really liked it. You could really taste the honeydew flavor. You get a choice of several toppings for free such as cereal, matcha powder, sprinkles, etc) and as always, a strawberry or macaron. The soft serve is thick and creamy. They also have a water fountain but their cups are a bit too small. read more
Went on Monday at 9pm bc I was craving custard filled taiyaki on my birthday! The store was playing upbeat popular hip hop and reggaeton music which made for a fun vibe, and the place was well lit. My taiyaki was done very quickly! Only thing is that my taiyaki itself was a bit raw which created a doughy texture... but lowkey I liked it. It tasted like a mochi waffle consistency which rules!! I got the matcha/cookies and cream swirl with coconut flakes, biscoff crumble, and sesame paste. The ice cream itself was not too sweet but also or very flavorful. There wasn't a lot of matcha flavor and the cookies and cream tasted like a vanilla. Overall, the toppings made the dessert - definitely get the black sesame paste. It's sweet, nutty, and very tasty! The value is ok. For $5, it's not too bad. Nice little treat, but wouldn't return based on the fact that if I closed my eyes eating it, I wouldn't be able to tell the flavors as it tasted just like a sweet cream. read more
One of the better dessert options in mission bay. Stopped by after dinner by chase center. This place doesn't miss soft serve and fresh made waffles for a great price. The service here was fast and friendly. The location is small and doesn't have seating but you can walk by near to sit outside and enjoy you dessert. Chill vibes and not too loud. Super consistent with the LA locations, crispy Taiyaki and smooth soft serve never miss. Tried the Dubai chocolate and matcha Taiyaki , both were solid and not overly sweet. Seasonal flavors keep things interesting. Long lines but they go quick. read more
Went here for a late night dessert and it was pretty packed. The tayaki took a bit long to make but there was only one worker. It's cool to see desserts made right in front of you. I had the ube milk swirl with Oreo crumble and sprinkles with a macaron and a Nutella tayaki and a matcha custard tayaki. Delicious pairing. The sprinkles added a nice crunch to the soft serve and the hot tayaki with filling gave a nice balance of flavor and contrast of temperature with the ice cream. read more

I can't believe this is my first time here after knowing about it for so long. Came after a Chase Center event to kill time before calling an Uber. I felt bad that there was only one worker while the place got filled, but he was pretty efficient! We got the black sesame soft serve in a taiyaki cone and the matcha ube swirl in a cup. I love that the flavors were not too sweet and super creamy. I also liked that there were free toppings, the matcha powder definitely stepped up the game. The portions were pretty big compared to other places and the taiyaki was good. A solid soft serve spot that did not disappoint! The water and hand washing station were super useful as well. read more
