Wow!!! This place is phenomenal. It was my first time, and certainly won't be my last. First thing to know is that this place gets packed. Even on a random Wednesday which is when we went. We were lucky enough to grab two seats at the bar around 5:30. Once 6/6:30 hit it got super busy. The place is beautiful inside. Classy, chic, and sexy. They have outdoor seating which I'm sure is great in the warmer months. We tried a few different items. My favorites...the Arugula salad. It's the perfect light salad to pair with a pizza or other apps. It's a good amount, so perfect for sharing. The Margherita pizza...sauce can make or break a pizza. They nailed their pizza sauce. It wasn't sweet and had a nice little kick. The only item that wasn't a knock out for me was the lobster parpadelle. It lacked salt and the sauce was a little too wet for me. It would be nice if it was a bit thicker. It was almost like a broth. Adding parm and salt/pepper helped. What's great about this place is you can order half portions for a lot of the pasta options. Finally made the visit to Salt & Vine after hearing about it for months - other Yelp reviews were great but truly was not sure what to expect. The outside of the restaurant looks beautiful at night, so many lights and parking is easy too. The inside ambiance is elegant and upscale, perfect for a romantic evening. The hosts and servers were very kind, we were quickly welcomed in and offered to wait in their waiting area (pictures attached).. within about 5 minutes we were offered a look at the drink menu while we waited! - I really felt the staff was attentive and communicated well with one another. Food was lovely! I got the penne ala vodka, super creamy and the chicken was cooked perfect. My friend ordered the salmon, I tried a piece and the texture was soft and warm with flavor. The burrata was truly my favorite piece - a great sharing size, not too little or too much.. not the biggest fan of the grilled pepper but points for being different! The experience was excellent. Felt like we could have been in a restaurant in NY. They did a great job with the decor. We had an Amazing server Bella. She made some great recommendations, she was warm and welcoming. Bella saved the day. When we were seated near 40 mins after our reservation time, she apologized for the wait. This was unlike the manager that walk past us several times never acknowledging us and the hostess that just stayed at her station, and not giving us a second glance. Manager never came to the table to introduce himself he went to a select few tables.. Bella said she was new there but she was a real professional and really cares for the customers. The Best! I had to take a moment before writing this review. So much anticipation for Salt and Vine. My girlfriend made the reservation weeks in advance. They lost it. No worries though as we were seated promptly. Salt and Vine used to be a home and it has been restored to its original self. It's unique and nice with a good outdoor dining spot. Since our reservation was lost we walked upstairs to a nice little dinning area. We were fine until our water was served in dirty glasses. This too was quickly fixed. We asked for bread. It didn't come. As we waited and decided what to order, the room across from us was a gathering place for staff. It appeared to be a training session that was getting loud. We asked to be moved downstairs. Once relocated we got new waters. This time only one dirty glass. Got that fixed too. We went on to have a nice dinner. Given an extra cannoli for desert. We also asked for bread again and got some. As dinner ended two more things. Our check was wrong and we had to get that fixed. Finally, the restroom was, well, bad. When you only have room for a unisex bathroom per floor you need to really stay on top of the cleanliness. It was a final unfortunate detail that was seriously lacking. You can have great tasting food, which they do, I really enjoyed my bolognese, but if the rest of the details just fall apart how can you truly enjoy yourself or justify the expense. This review is for the pizza and the pizza alone, since we got it for takeout. We've actually never eaten in this (new) restaurant. I believe they've been open since spring of 2023, and it is new ownership. Located in the old historic Olney House, built c. 1800. Did you know that Olney got its name from the Olney House? It's true. Most of the pizza joints in Olney are very ordinary chain type places. This one stands out as it is unlike the others. The menu only offers three pizzas, and they're all fancy gourmet types. If you're looking for a standard pepperoni pizza, look elsewhere. These are meant to be "personal" pizzas but they're pretty big for personal, I think. Neither myself nor my wife finished ours in one sitting, which I think is a good thing. We got the Carciofi and the House pizzas. The Carciofi is marinated artichokes among other things. It includes a roasted lemon half. I think you're supposed to squeeze and drizzle the lemon juice on top? Pretty cool. The House is sausage among other things. Both pizzas were excellent as far as toppings, ingredients, freshness, and flavor. It was really good, different, and pleasing. And unique. Unfortunately, the crust is meh. It has no taste (for really, really good pizza crust, check out Julliano's in Laytonsville). The other problem is the price. The two pizzas were $40 plus tax. That's a bit high, although I do understand it is a high quality pizza and a high-end restaurant which is gonna be pricy. If the crust was on par with Julliano's I'd give it five stars. But I have to go four stars for now. Nonetheless, if you're in the mood for something different and delicious regarding pizza, definitely give Salt and Vine a try. My friend said she read a review by a critic, which unfavorable so we went into the dinner on the fence. Upon arriving on a Thursday evening at 5pm, my friend and I were asked by the hostess if we had reservations which we did not. We were told that there would be a wait, but that we could sit at the bar. A moment later after she looked at the reservation list, we were informed that we could be seated. From the outside, the restaurant looks big, but inside the dining room was much smaller than I was expecting. Our server, Louie, was outgoing, nice, and fun. While perusing the menu, we were given complimentary rosemary focaccia bread. The flavor was good, but would have been better warm and toasted. My friend ordered a salad and we both got the Jumbo Lump Linguini. My friend said had she not read the bad review, she would have been impressed with the linguini which we both raved about. I ordered the Tiramisu for dessert, which was flavorful and moist. One of the best I've ever had. Our only complaint is how loud it got as more people trickled in. We had to sit side by side and I had to lean in. I can't imagine in a larger group being able to hear anyone around the table. They do have patio seating both in the front and the back which would be best if you want to have a conversation and be able to actively listen. What a superb dining experience in a really unique restaurant space! From the minute we were greeted at the entrance restaurant, I knew that it was going to be an amazing dinner with top notch service - and I was right. The menu has a wide range of selections for any dietary type - which is great because there is something for everyone. The antipasti options are very reminiscent of what you would hope for with an Italian restaurant, and the pastas, pizzas and entree options all sounded delicious. I was really impressed with everything that we ordered; from the food menu as well as their cocktails. One thing to keep in mind is... the news of the amazing food and great service has certainly spread! So, to avoid disappointment, make sure that you make a reservation in good time. What a delightful, hidden gem, tucked away in Olney! This restaurant is really very charming, fresh, sophisticated and truly a treat! My sister took me here for Saturday brunch on my birthday and just wow. The restaurant is festively decorated for Christmas It is an interesting, historic building that has been beautifully renovated. The bar area looks cozy, cute and romantic, for those of you who like to imbibe! You have got to come here for a date, celebration, or just because! Although it is an Italian restaurant, my sister and I both ordered the brick oven beet salad, steak and eggs, tiramisu cake, and coffee. I loved the beet salad - it had oranges in it and was a very nice complement to the beets and greens. The steak was very good but I had asked for my eggs to be over hard, yet they were rather runny. (A little bit disappointed about that.) and the desserts were amazing. That tiramisu cake is the best I have ever had and I don't say that about every tiramisu! The service was excellent - although I will add that both times I went on a Tuesday very early in the evening, so I don't know what the service would be like prime time on a weekend night. The food also was excellent, especially the lobster bisque and the beet salad, and there is an extensive list of wines and cocktails including non-alcoholic drinks. My only quibble is the ambience. The chairs are comfortable, lighting pleasant and the times I went the noise level made for easy conversation, but there are no tablecloths, and the view is of a parking lot. For such gourmet food and corresponding prices, I would have like a bit more elegance to the table. But, that said, this is fast becoming one of my favorite restaurants and I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. read more

Tried Salt & Vine for the first time for my birthday this year. My partner made a reservation for us on a Sunday evening and did mention that it was my birthday in advance. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't very crowded and it had a quiet, charming ambiance. It definitely feels as though you are walking into a quaint, country house when you are inside. We were seated quickly and the hostess and servers were all very courteous. The dining room was well lit, and the seats at the tables were very comfortable. We ordered two of the pastas and two sides to try. The food took longer than we expected to come out. But everything came out steaming hot and fresh. The vodka pasta was amazing. So creamy and rich but not over-indulgent. The crab pasta also tasted fresh and actually had a lot of crab throughout the dish. The Brussels sprouts with pancetta was smoky and had a nice umami flavor. And lastly, the mushroom risotto was fair, but a little underwhelming compared to the pastas. The texture was just right but it mainly tasted salty to me. We arrived for a 4 pm reservation on a Sunday and were seated right on time. Our entire experience took about 1.5 hrs, but our first course came out super fast after ordering. The wait staff have hand held devices so when you order it goes directly to the kitchen. This devise also allowed you to pay right at the table and made the overall experience more desirable. We ordered and enjoyed the following: Ricotta dish- the ricotta was whipped and delicious. And the flatbread of fluffy even though it was flat. The honey that came on the ricotta was so good I could have done with even more. Beet salad- the golden beets were the standout in this dish for me. Everything was super fresh and very well balanced. Half penne vodka- this dish was very saucy (which my husband loved). The pasta was perfectly cooked and also very fresh. Whole branzino- perfectly cooked, very heavily seasoned (which I prefer and love) Ribeye- Smokey and done to perfection. Nice fatty marbling and quality beef. Cannoli- I do not like cannolis. I find their shell to be too crispy, but this cannoli was a little on the softer side and the filling had a tad bit of lemon and was a very nice ending to our meal. Timing timing timing We were very excited to get a reservation at a hard to dine at new restaurant . Our first impression was wow. The hostess greeted us on the porch coming in. She was very sweet and held the door for us. We entered the beautifully renovated historical house and was seated upstairs in a room next to the bar. The noise was very loud with no sound buffering. We could hear everything in our dinning room being discussed at the other tables and take my word we would have liked it to be more intimate. Our waitress was new, very sweet and offered suggestions. When I asked her what was good she said she has not tried very much. I feel they need to mentor their stuff more and let them try some of the menu items to offer suggestions. I ordered the calamari as an appetizer and the lobster papedelli as my entree. my fiancé ordered the Bolognese pasta half order as an appetizer and the strip strip steak as his entree. We shared a Cesar salad as well. I have to say the calamari was overcooked. However, tomato sauce to dip them in was excellent with a nice little zest of spice. The Caesar salad was very wet. I would not suggest ordering it as there seems to be so many better options. Here is where timing is critical . As soon as the waitress entered our meal in the ordering device everything came out almost at once. Within 10 minutes of eating our salad, my main dinner came as well as his half order of pasta. I was a little miffed because I was hoping it would come with the main entrées. The pasta he had ordered was not the pasta they brought to the table so we sent it back as he does not like seafood. Within four minutes of them taking it back, his main entrée came out. I read other reviews after getting home tonight and found a common theme about the timing being off. I would say to management they need to hear this. It's not just one time or an off outlier. It's consistently a theme. I wish I knew that prior to eating there as when you're spending over $150 you'd like a non-rush, dinner experience. This was not the case. We reached out to the manager who was cleaning the table next to us and shared the concern on timing of bringing the food. He was very kind and apologetic. The waitress too, was very apologetic. We did not want them to feel bad. I was just making a constructive comment to provide feedback on improvement. I tried to slow down the pace, but I have to say the lobster pasta had very little lobster in it for $30.00; the amount of lobster was probably the size of a quarter. It was very tasty and the pasta was cooked to perfection a dente. The strip steak was excellent with the fingerling smashed potatoes and glacé sauce for the steak was perfectly seasoned . Water please: I guess if you are drinking, this place has some nice options; however, we don't drink. once the manager came over, it seem like he took over our table however, no one came to refill our water. Came with my work team for our holiday dinner. Nice location, ample parking, the restaurant is in its own building, looks like a huge house. Decor was pleasing and it gives off the vibe, you're home! I'm amazed! I can't find anything displeasing among all the food we ordered. Our server was great, just enough visits to our table to check on us and made recommendations that were awesome. The Wood-Oven Roasted Oysters were so full of flavor- like Rockefeller Oysters style. I loved their calamari- lightly battered and can taste the calamari for real! Not a fan of the beef tartar but I've had it elsewhere and it's just not for me. My friends enjoyed it though. The presentation was top-notch, spread over beef bone. I had the short rib Mafalde Costolette Corte. It was so good and they gave me so much, I was in heaven! Went back for lunch and wow the flavors are really great. We had the Brick Oven Beets, Tagliatelle Pomodoro, Summer Bianca pizza, and Shrimp and Polenta. The summer Bianca pizza was packed with cheese and really wow'd everyone on the first bite. The thick pasta was great to soak up all the flavors of the sauce. If you're looking for upscale Italian food in the area, this is the spot!! First off, the restaurant is beautiful. It's designed simply but it's very tasteful with a lot of contrast between light and dark colors. We walked in around 6 on a Sunday and did not have a reservation so they said it would be over an hour wait!! So we asked to sit at the bar until our table was ready. There are apparently 2 bars, one on the first floor and another upstairs. We picked the bar upstairs which has access to the full food menu. At first, there was only 1 seat at the bar but after we put in our drink order, one of the tables opened up. The only downside of the bar set up is the chairs are oddly shaped so getting in and out of the table is a little tight, and the table slides so be careful! I ordered the Italian mule with the house-made amaretto. It was so good, the amaretto making it a touch smoky almost? It was so so good. Then we ordered some appetizers for dinner since we had a table and spot to eat. We first ordered the beef carpaccio. It was so tender and mostly well seasoned, although some bites were a little bland. The bread it came with added some herbiness to the carpaccio. At the same time, we were also served the house-made focaccia. My only complaint was there wasn't enough!!! It was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and had the perfect amount of salt. Then the oysters and our antipasto board came out. The table was too small for all of this food, so we ate the oysters first. Fried oysters are basically a vehicle for the breading and this breading was really tasty and a little spicy, I really enjoyed it. The board was also incredible. It came with 5 types of cheese, including burrata, apricot spread, figs, beets, capicola, roasted red peppers, nuts, tomatoes, prosciutto, salami, and more bread. I requested more of the focaccia because I knew the small pieces of bread it came with were not going to be enough. That was a good move because the burrata and the focaccia were amazing together. Everything on the board was amazing quality and it was a lot of food, so I'd order it again, The service was pretty good. The servers made helpful recommendations with drinks and the antipasto board, and even answered my nerdy bread question. They were very busy and considering we were at the bar, the service was quite good. If you come for dinner on a weekend, definitely make a reservation in advance if you don't want to sit at the bar. I took my wife there to celebrate her birthday. One thing about S&V - rarely do you open its front door. Their management was there to greet us, and to see us out when we finished. Their lighting, while it's not too bright, gives it a very intimate and upscale atmosphere which any family would enjoy. The drinks never miss, their branzino is AMAZING. It's also de-boned which was a great extra touch. My wife thoroughly enjoyed their bolognese. Their appetizers were also great - particularly their calamari and oysters. S&V is a perfect date spot, but also great for families. I'm not sure how toddler-friendly they are but I'm sure they'd make it great for the kids too. Beyond her service, she has the best attitude and personality! For our dinner - my husband had the steak which he said was excellent. He's been wanting a good steak. I settled on the Orecchiette Salsiccia and it was delicious! I couldn't stop eating it. :-) I had some of my son's White Chocolate Budino. Next time I'm having that instead of what I got (the cannolis)! Yum! With my dessert I had decaf chamomile tea made from tea leaves. For whatever reason, it was so good, I was wishing Salt and Vine sold the tea leaves! This place is a great find even though it's a bit pricey. What a charming yet elegant restaurant! As soon as you drive up, the beautiful white exterior of the restaurant greets you. We were lucky to sit on the front porch and were dreaming of a home that looks like this on the outside. The food here also speaks for itself - everything was so so good. We got the two of the $6 lamb chops on HH and a $10 mushroom soup on the HH menu to start and both were delicious and well worth the price. We got an n/a cocktail and a whiskey cocktail and both were delicious. We love when a restaurant has multiple great n/an options and even used 0 proof alcohol in all of them. 10/10! For entrees we split the beet salad, squid ink seafood pasta, and the half rack of lamb. Everything was cooked perfectly and super flavorful. To top it off, our waitress Faith was lovely and super attentive. I highly recommend this place for a well-valued upscale happy hour or a nice dinner! read more

Came here randomly on a Friday since one of my friends wanted to try it and I was blown away. Did not have a reservation but I was lucky enough to find a seat at the bar. (It gets busy so book a reservation in advance). The restaurant is inside a house so you are separated in small groups in each room, which I really enjoyed. First thing I ordered was the expresso martini, and it was one of the best expresso martinis I had. Our bartender Ron was a joy. He was awesome and made our visit 10xs better. He recommended all the best dishes, and was very patient with us while we were ordering. The whole staff was super friendly. The food was just amazing as service. Started off with some meatballs, tuna bites, and wood fired oysters. I did not take pictures unfortunately since I was hungry and dug in immediately. The meatballs were amazing and would recommend anyone to order those if visiting. They come with 3 meatballs so heads up. Personally I'm not a seafood person but I did enjoy the tuna bites. For the main course ordered the house pizza, the Penne alla vodka pasta, and the bolognese pasta. Personally those were all amazing and I couldn't tell you which one I enjoyed most. You can't go wrong with any of those, and order all of them if you can because they were all delicious. I'm going to start this review off by stating I am not someone who typically leaves a review. Unless something is exceptionally good or exceptionally bad, I tend to refrain from leaving a review. Unfortunately, in this instance, it was the later. I have been looking forward to trying this restaurant for some time now and I ended up taking my mom there for her birthday. The design and ambience of the restaurant were nice, but unfortunately, those were probably the best parts of the experience. I was very excited to try a number of items on the menu as I'm a big fan of truffle. Specifically black truffle. Unfortunately, none of the items I ordered that were supposed to be truffle-related, might have had a very small hint of truffle, if any at all. I ordered a steak and requested truffle butter, which is something I always do when that option is available. When my meal arrived, the truffle butter was on the side and there was some other herb-based butter already on the steak, along with some sort of sauce that I assume was supposed to go on the steak. I would think it was obvious I wouldn't want an additional butter on my steak if I ordered truffle butter on the side. But it still came like that If I'm paying that much for a steak, it shouldn't need to be dressed up with a sauce. It should be able to stand on its own. I tried the herb-based butter that was on it just to see how well it might complement the steak. It might've been the worst thing I've ever tasted. I dined at a restaurant in Denver one time that used a similar type of herb butter and I had to send the steak back and order something else. Not sure what was in that butter, but please stop doing that to a good steak. I put the truffle butter on my steak after removing the butter it came with, and I really struggled to find even the slightest hint of truffle, which, for those who know truffle, it should not be difficult to detect with a true truffle butter. I also ordered the broccoli and truffle risotto, which was rather bland and lacked any indication it contained truffle too. I also tried the broccolini which was decent, but there were a couple of pieces that definitely needed to be cooked longer. They were borderline raw. My mother had the mushroom pasta (something funghi was the name) and that was decent, but also a little bland. We both shared the same opinion, the food was bland. It lacked any sort of bold flavor and for the price tag I absolutely expected to be wowed. Our server was knowledgeable, polite, and well-mannered, but he certainly needed to better understand the intricacies of how to be a server. My drink was empty for over 30 minutes and I had to wait at least 15 min for it come after it was requested. We were probably done eating for about 15 or 20 minutes before we had to flag him down and request boxes. He brought over the dessert menus with the boxes and then disappeared for another 20 minutes. Lastly, our reservation was later in the evening, and I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it or not, but I was extremely underwhelmed. If nobody told me where my meal was from, they could've passed it off for Outback Steakhouse. Even with the gaps in service, it still may have been the best part of the experience. The best gluten free pizza we have ever had! We have not tried anything else yet. Salt & Vinegar has replaced our favorite place for homemade crafted pizza. Discovered that they are the same owners as the Turn House in Columbia MD which speaks volumes. I only wish that the pizza choices were broader. The waiter was pretty confused and couldn't answer many questions. Perhaps he was new. The staff should be more educated about gluten-free diets and the menu offerings.
