This small bakery is very popular with tourists and locals alike. Their scones are amazing! They offer reasonably priced baked goods, bagels and sandwiches. (Limited items and they sell out fast). Sometimes they have day old product on the back shelf. You have to ask for them. Those items are sold at a discount, but they are still delicious. They have a great group of young staff people. There's also a lot of local crafts for sale in the shop. There is no indoor seating, but there is lots of places to sit outside looking over the harbor. There are no stairs to get in to the shop. Had clam chowder and lobster roll. Clam chowder was good, would order again. We were not impressed with the lobster roll but it was inoffensive, still was not worth ever reordering. We stopped because it was convenient and it was scenic with outdoor tables. Sounded like they get the meat locally but I'm guessing they purchased it already out of the shell and there's nothing like lobster steamed and shucked day of eating! Business is counter service, definitely aimed at tourists with the shirts and souvenirs. Only services are port a potties, don't count on being able to wash off messy hands. This spot's legendary. It may be in Timbuk88 but bruh, the food especially the chowdah, doesn't get more fresh. Small menu but the views overlooking the ocean are relaxing as hell, feel's like falling asleep with the sound of fan on, that relaxing. Visited recently for the view on a ride through Harpswell. I didn't anticipate going to Salt Cod Cafe but my husband wanted a sandwich. There were a lot of people outside so it wasn't surprising there was a decent wait for food. When my husband initially ordered a BLT, he was told they were out of tomato. He opted for a chicken salad sandwich instead. The staff asked what kind of bread he wanted it on and he replied "wheat or whole grain", to which the staff responded, "we only have white" so white bread it was! We got a buzzer to hold which would alert us when it was ready. About 15 minutes later the buzzer went off and we got the food. My husband described the sandwich as being really dry and desperate for a sauce or mayo. It lacked flavor, it needed salt and seasoning and lastly the tomatoes, which they were out of. Stopped by for a quick breakfast after an early morning hike. The location of this café is amazing. The scones are not to be skipped--I've honestly never had a better scone. The breakfast sandwich was alright, nothing special. My main issue with this establishment was the staff. It seemed that everyone working here is a teenager. While I commend them for spending their summers working, leaving them without an actual adult may not be the best idea. They were polite with customers, but when there was no one in line ordering (a couple of us were waiting for our orders) they began ridiculing and mocking customers they had dealt with earlier, replaying conversations they'd had with them in a condescending tone. Afterward, they began complaining about the lack of tips. I've worked in the food industry and understand that some customers can be difficult to deal with, but behaving in the way they were in front of customers is not appropriate. read more

This is THE place to get breakfast on Bailey and Orrs. They are open seasonally and do get very busy at the height of summer, so don't wait too long to grab food in the morning. A local woman makes all the baked goods and I honestly have never had a pastry there that I didn't like. That being said, the cinnamon scones are my favorite. The breakfast sandwiches are also tasty. There is a dock along the backside of the cafe with ocean views and seating. All around great place. read more

We have been going to the Salt Cod for several years. You can't beat the strawberry rhubarb pie and the baked goods. This time we stopped for a quick sandwich on the way to cedar beach. The sandwiches took an exceptionally long time- seems that although we were before a lot of parties they got their food first. My husband ordered the lobster crunch roll and it was tiny for $29 and the bacon was the premade kind you get in a box. My crab roll was also tiny so it was a good thing that our kids didn't finish a cup of chowder or turkey sandwich. $75 for these 4 items and chips... we will be back for just the pie. read more

Can not give this anymore than one star. I just had a cup of seafood chowder with only 2 tiny shrimp, 2 tiny pieces of potato and a few shreds of fish. The broth was good, but that's the only good thing I can say about it. read more

My daughter and I came to this place for lunch. First and foremost...the view around was breathtaking! And the lobster roll we ordered? It was even better than the view! I forgot what it was called, but it was a lobster roll with bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo...and it was heaven! There was just so much lobster in it that we felt it just too much for the affordable price! Probably a whole lobster in that order! We also shared a clam chowder cup of soup...and it was also great! Your eating options, especially for breakfast, are very limited on Orr's and Bailey Islands. In fact, this place is now about the only place for breakfast. Thankfully, it is good! The crowds come for the homemade scones which are delicious and sell out too fast. If you crave protein the breakfast sandwiches are ok but nothing special. The only negative is the slow service and ordering process if there is a crowd. Lunch is the usual island seafood light offerings like lobster rolls, etc. Take out place but with lots of scenic outdoor seating overlooking Harpswell Sound. Very coastal Maine. read more

The Salt Cod Cafe is an excellent little spot. We went for lunch and got cups of seafood chowder and sandwiches. The bread is delicious and sliced really thick--we actually took some of it off the sandwiches and just ended up dipping it in the soup. Service was a little slow because there was only one person making sandwiches, but we weren't in a hurry. There's a great little spot outside to eat by the water but there are no inside bathrooms--port-a-johns only. Salt Cod closes for the season on Columbus Day weekend, but you can buy frozen chowder to take home and enjoy through the winter! read more

This is a quaint shack on the water of Orr's island. The folks are friendly and the food is good. They hand make all your rolls and sandwiches to order and have quite a variety if you don't want seafood rolls or chowder/soup. We were staying on the island for a weekend and were planning on cooking most of our meals. The first day we went into this place actually looking for eggs but came out with muffins and scones. We never ended up cooking any of our breakfasts because all of the baked goods here were phenomenal. We also started getting the breakfast sandwiches and those were just as amazing. The ladies behind the counter were a bit rude and practically laughed at us when we asked for a pie. Apparently, you have to order it in advance. So we got a mixed berry and rhubarb pie. I walked down from Cook Island's motel on a Saturday morning to grab a quick breakfast sandwich before a day of exploring the islands. This little cafe had a variety of sandwich options. The sandwich was good, nothing to write home about, however the view you get to enjoy while eating the sandwich is amazing. You can sit outside on a deck or on the grass and enjoy the beautiful Maine coastline. There aren't many options in the area, but given that, this place is still doing a good a job.
