Our server was friendly. Ordered the chocolate hazelnut cold brew, regular cold brew and cookie butter latte along with an Asiago bagel and a steak breakfast sandwich (the hiker). After visiting another nearby spot for food/baked goods we wanted to try a new to us coffee spot and this was nearby so worked perfectly. I will say they appear to have their baked goods as well as many different food options like sandwiches but my review is strictly for the coffee. Once you enter to the right is all the different seating with a good variety of tables and chairs but also some more comfy choices like couches. Quite a large space inside and a handful of tables outside to enjoy the nice weather. You order at the counter and then they have a spot further down where they'll call out your name for both food and drinks. They had a section on the menu called the MET Artistic Lattes which was their version of specialty flavored lattes. This caught our eyes. My wife went with the Falcon Pride (chocolate & white chocolate latte) and I went with the Vanilla Bean Dream (white chocolate & vanilla). Drink wise they were both pretty good! Didn't become a new favorite coffee spot but good enough we would return if we found ourselves in the area looking for coffee again. To have a real strong opinion I would need to return and try some of the food rather than just the coffee. read more

Stopped in here on the morning of Black Friday with a friend. Very cute space with lots of tables. They have lots of breakfast sandwiches and pastries, but I just opted for a hot chai tea latte. It was good, but not anything over-the-top special - likely commercial chai base. After I ordered, I noticed all of the different tea flavors, which, if I go back, I would like to try. I stopped here after an afternoon in Wolfe's Neck park and the turkey club sandwich absolutely HIT! The portion was massive and was perfect to fuel up for some outlet shopping. I was walking around Freeport soaking in the sights when I suddenly felt a thirst. Not sure where to go, I whipped out Yelp and saw that I was mere steps away from The Met. It looked like a place I could grab a quick reprieve - so off I went. Walking in, The Met instantly gives off corporate coffee house vibes - there's the standard ordering counter and display case filled with baked goods as well as a selection of grab-and-go items. I went simple and went with an iced coffee, and their white chocolate macadamia cookie was speaking to me so I decided to tack that on. The coffee was fine, nothing out of the ordinary; the cookie was mid - not worth the calories (which I already consumed multitudes of this trip). Staff was great - my drink was ready fast and they even remade my order when someone walked up in front of me as soon as my name was called out and snatched my drink (???). Apparently she thought it was hers but girl, don't you read names on cups before grabbing them? And it was right after they called my name? Sheesh. Anyway, you're not going to find anything life changing here - but there's a solid selection and friendly staff. For that it's worth a stop in. read more

My friends and I were in the area in the middle of a road trip and decided to stop for breakfast and coffee. Service was friendly and quick, and there was practically no wait for service. We sat at a table at first until one of the combo couch + armchair spots became available, which was great. I will probably post another review as I didn't get to sit and enjoy the place. This trip was more of a "grab-n-go" coffee. The place was packed and even though a long line, our order was taken rather quickly and we got our coffee really quick. They have some tables and chairs to sit at and some couches. It's a very laid back place and you can also sit outside if you like, they have a couple of seatings. My coffee was pretty good and I only got a small, so again, first quick impression was great, but I hope to go back and try the flavored beverages, the food, as their pastries and sandwiches looked delicious, and sit and relax for a bit. This is a very cozy and large cafe in which you can get delicious brunch, study and catch up on homework, or get a drink to catch up with friends. The seating area is pretty big with tables and couches. There's a variety of selections on their menu with different pastries and drinks to choose from. The service is quick. The Saco was a 4.5 out of 5. I love the addition of guacamole and the size of the sandwich is pretty filling. The everything bagel is perfect and soft. The side of home fries was a 3.5 out of 5. I would've preferred if the potatoes were cut bigger or if the portion size was bigger. They also have merchandise likes shirts etc. to choose from. In my opinion, the Met is the most local-friendly spot in town. Their prices are very reasonable, their rewards system is the strongest of any place in town, and if you work in town, there are additional benefits. The people are always warm, welcoming, and very helpful. I have been happy with all the food and drinks I have bought at the Met. Everything always comes out fast too! Their menu is fairly simple and small, mostly sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads, but it does have some more unique items than many places in town. They also have a wide selection of pastries and desserts, which have always been decent. This also seems like a nice place to work or sit for a while. They have good Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, and clean restrooms. The only downside is that management does not seem to support people working here very well. Their menu changed months ago, yet their website still displays the old one. People in-store apologized profusely and said they have requested this change numerous times, but the owners/mangers have not made these changes. It is very clear that there is good comradery and collaboration between people working, but there seems to be some disconnects in communication and management that clearly come from the top. Hopefully this will change, because the people in store deserve better. This is my only reason for giving four stars not five. read more

The Metropolitan Coffe Shop "The Met" has finally opened in Downtown Freeport. We have been so excited for this coffee shop to open!!! I could smell Cinnamon Rolls all the way across the street. It is right across the street from Starbucks (I know a little ironic) and just up from Eastern Mountain Sports. A husband and wife could opened their third location (the other two in North Conway and Settlers Green, NH and the first in Maine. They have an extensive list of teas, coffee roasts and fun curated coffees drinks (both hot & iced) as well as cold brew and nitro. They have sooo many Torani flavors so they can make fun coffees or hot chocolates and have suggestions like Almond Joy, Pecan Pie. I did sugar free chocolate and sf caramel for my own iced. They offer almond, coconut and oat milk as non dairy options and even had oat milk out by the coffee condiment station. The iced coffee had the lids with the lip, so you don't need a straw. (I noticed since my mom loooves those cups...adult sippy cup). They had a large assortment of homemade pastries, muffins as well as an extensive breakfast sandwich and lavish menu. They are currently open until 7pm and they also have lunch/ early dinner options. What shocked me was the case of yummy desserts. Large cake slices, individually wrapped to make to go easy. Dessert or Birthday celebration made easy!!! Red Velvet, Chocolate Marshmallow, Carrot, Lemon and more as well as these large cookies that looked amazing! The inside is decorated so nice. Leather couches, lots of seating and large tables. There is a wall that separates ordering area and seating so it feels more private. At the back of the store are their own coffee grounds in crazy flavors. I hope they will offer these fun flavors on the menu....coconut cream, pistachio, apple crisp and more. You can smell the flavors from the vent hole in the back. They have a large tea list and make various tea drinks as well! The handwritten list I think had 18 different teas on there. Additionally they offer Italian sodas, and these plant baskets energy drinks called Lotus. They also offer to go sandwiches (premade), fruit cups, various drinks for your adventure out. They offer online ordering. Parking: You can park in large lot behind Starbucks by the southern entrance to LL Bean, or behind the Met in the lot or parking garage down closer to where the Amtrak station is. I wanted to give the Met another chance since my last visit over a year ago. Friendly no wait service. Many coffee, tea, smoothie choices available. Many sweets and pastries line the way to the ordering line. Streamlined breakfast menu. I ordered the Mountaineer($6.45). Consisting of your choice of bagel, with eggs, choice of bacon, ham or sausage and topped with melted cheddar cheese. I chose a sesame seed bagel and bacon along with the eggs and cheddar. The bagel was perfectly toasted, fresh and pillowy. The bacon has really improved since my last visit, it was legit and crispy, the eggs were fluffy and the cheddar gooey. A very well executed breakfast sandwich. Hot, fresh and delectable. I chose a 20oz dark roast coffee, that was watery and insipid. Disappointing! I brought it up to the owner Larry, who was so nice, offering me a $10 gift card to use at another visit. Great customer service and responsible ownership. Larry did not hesitate to rectify the bad coffee situation. I really appreciated his kind gesture. Most definitely will return to the Met!! read more

My wife and I, along with our 7 month old, had a wonderful time spent at The Met for a Sunday lunch. As a local, I always look to check out the new establishments within the community, especially a cafe. The Met is really charming, and fits well with the lineup of Freeport's other downtown mainstays such as Isabella's and CBD. The interior was clean and attractive, the atmosphere was vibrant and bustling, and my interactions with the cashier and servers was friendly and inviting. Even the owner, who was walking around sweeping the floor and wiping down tables, said hello to us and shared a smile with our little boy. The sandwiches, a Chicken Pesto and a Turkey Club, were excellent. The Italian Sodas were delicious too! I will be returning for more sandwiches and to try their coffee next! read more
