Yummmmmm! I heard about this place from another foodie and I just had to try it! I came recently on a Saturday and there was little to no wait! You can check their lines on damnlines.com before heading over. Since there was only 5-7 min wait at the time I decided to go over and grab a sandwich! It's pretty packed inside at all times as people tend to order a full sandwich and eat in so the flavor retains and is the best experience you can get. Every seat is usually full but people tend to scarf it down by 8-10 min! I love French onion dip so this sandwich was a godsend. I think it's quite pricey for a sandwich at a whopping $38 so we shared it and reheated the second one the next day! The matchstick fries are actually so good and complemented the sandwich really well. I loved the prime rib inside and the French onion dip it came with which made the crispy baguette slightly wet, making the inside soft and flavorful but it maintained all the crisp on the outside. definitely one of my favorite baguettes that I ate in my life (for a sandwich) They said they only have this prime rib sandwich on the menu but sometimes will have the chicken parm so it's best to visit and check if you wanted to try something else! I definitely want to try it too!

One of the best sandwiches I've eaten all year!! They only really make one thing here and it's worth it. The space is small; we had a reservation at 2pm on a Sunday and sat at the counter. You order and then sit and they bring your food to you pretty quickly! The people here are so nice. This sandwich was incredible. The bread stayed together perfectly and the au ju was very hot and perfect for dipping. We got a lot of the toppings and ended up just eating them separately because the sandwich was so foo by itself! Loved how fresh the slaw is! Definitely worth coming here.

A solid option for a French dip sandwich in the west village! I do think the move is to go a little before the spot opens at 11:30. I was able to wait for 30 minutes to go in and get my sandwich. I will say the horseradish was a bit aggressive for me but the bread was such a good crunch and still soft and the horseshoe fries were like thin potato chips. The staff paced out people to come in and out of the restaurant so that there wasn't overcrowding and I appreciated it. The spot itself is pretty small too but since it's only one thing on the menu people order quickly and move on.

So did you know you can get a select number of reservations on OpenTable? I jumped the line and walked right in!!! And yes the hype is legit! Best French dip ever 100%!!! 2 whole red onions caramelized on each sandwich. Everything about it is incredible. Beef = Pat Lafrieda = nuff said. Bread is crusty and totally holds up and makes the sandwich. Horseradish aioli is the bomb. Get some extra and love the matchstick fries!!! The wait isn't even that bad!!! You gotta go!

**Ordered for pickup on Grbhub to avoid the line! The French dip was delicious, albeit slightly overhyped. I would not get the fries again, to me these are more like crisps/skinny potato chips. Definitely a sandwich shop you should try at least once, but I probably won't be back.

Finally got to try this viral spot. Thank goodness they just opened their pre-order on Seamless, because the line looped around the block on Saturday morning. It was nuts. Cold, grey morning, two hour wait? No thank you. The sandwich price went up from $27 to $34, which is insane. Paying restaurant prices for take out essentially. Bunch of people did what we did--pre-ordered and ate standing up, with their food spread out on the car hood. Not doing Justice to this not cheap meal. The shaved meat was tasty and delicate. I wish there were more caramelized onions (which added that superb sweetness that was so necessary), but my sandwich barely had any. Appreciated the horseradish mayo on the bread--it added a much needed kick to the fattiness of the sandwich. This was so filling, you'll be done with food for the rest of the day. The bread gets soggy rather quickly, so I recommend biting into your sandwich as soon as you receive your take out bag from the staff. I liked the crunch and the heartiness of the bread. Au jus was super salty and didn't add much flavor in my opinion. I enjoyed the sandwich without it, surprisingly. $6 shoestring fries reminded me of childhood--perfectly crunchy. Like chips! This is my kind of indulgence--soooo salty that you don't need condiments--the crispy, salty, oiliness is complete without any additions. Good portion to fill you up. Or share. PSA: the food is Ssoooo salty, you'll be parched for the rest of the day. Salty Hank's indeed. I got an insane headache from all the sodium. Overall, would I return? If I don't have to wait in line, maybe. The prices are up there, for that amount you can eat a superb French dip roast beef sandwich at a few top notch restaurants, where you'll also get to enjoy the ambiance and actually appreciate the opportunity to relax while consuming your food, not feel like a homeless person stuffing your sandwich, as shoestring fries scatters all over yourself, standing up in the cold, against the hood of your car.

I happened to walk by Salt & Hanks on a Wednesday right when they opened. There was no wait, and I was able to get in without standing in a long line. The place is small but well-decorated. They've clearly optimized every inch for seating. I ordered the French dip, their signature dish. Unfortunately, the shoestring fries were unavailable the day I went, but the sandwich was amazing on its own. The thing is massive. I could only finish half and had to pack up the rest. If I'd gone with someone else, splitting it would have been perfect. I've had French dips from other notable spots in the city, and it's clear that Salt & Hanks is doing a few things differently. The caramelized onions and the garlic baguette from Frenchette really set it apart. I've seen many people complain about the price, but it's in the same ballpark as its competitors in NYC. Overall, I really loved it and want to go back again. Try to go on a weekday if possible to avoid the line.

I don't usually stand in lines - but I had to for this sandwich. I went late afternoon (after the lunch rush) on a Sunday and probably waited over half an hour. Bottom line: The French Dip is delicious- mind-bendingly so. All the components are perfection - a crispy, crackly baguette, divinely cooked prime rib, carmelized onions, a horeseradish-tinged aioli. And every bite made more succulent by dipping it into the jus. I mean it's just so good - and then after the first bite, you add the shoestring fries to the sandwich for crunch and it's a whole other level. But here's the thing - it's not cheap and you've just spent a lot of time waiting in a line. Would I be more likely to go again if it were cheaper or if there was no line? Probably. But the $$$ + time just kind of deflates the joy. But it does not take away from the fact that this is a SUPERB sandwich - easily the best french dip I've ever had.

Ordered for pick up during the 30 minute window open on GrubHub and went in the store to pick it up. They prepared it and brought it out to me once it was complete. When I went, there weren't many people so we were able to eat in store. It was good, but I don't think it's worth the price tag. Maybe it was because it was originally ordered us takeout, it was a little bit soggy that I would've liked even before dipping. The crispy fries were not my style - more of a chip than a fry; I would definitely bypass ordering it. I'm more likely to not order again vs going out on my way to order.

The French Dip ($34) is an extraordinary, superlative sandwich. It's worth trying once. It's a no-compromise, no-frill (really) manifestation of an indulgent dish. Each component is perfect. The crusty baguette, the tender flavorful prime rib, the deeply caramelized heap of onions, the tangy horseradish aioli, and the piping hot savory jus... all perfect. My initial reaction was balking at paying $34 ($40 all in) for counter service at a one-trick pony shop, but then I paid $29 for a French Dip at a place known for French Dips, and it was a sorry comparison. Like a Prius compared to a Bentley. That's what convinced me to 5-star such Salt Hank's exorbitant sandwich. I waited for opening with like-minded people for about 15 minutes on a Wednesday, but there was no wait for the rest of time I was eating. The counter ordering system is pleasant. I appreciated their takeout packaging station because I definitely brought home half for my wife to enjoy. She endorses the sandwich too -- even in its leftover state.

A little salty in my opinion. However, the first few bites were definitely yummy. One French dip is enough for two ppl to share. It was a five minute wait on Wednesday morning at 11:40 am.

I was blown away. We showed up at opening on Friday and did not get in the first seating, so had to wait around half an hour, but oh boy would I wait again. The inside is small and they really are efficient in getting the sandwiches out, but there's not much space which is the reason there is always a line. Got the french dip with the fries and pro-tip - add the peppers! Each bite absolutely melted in my mouth, and my favorite bites was the sandwich dipped in the au jus and topped with the thin crispy "fries" and peppers. The meat is so tender you don't even have to chew and the bread was perfectly crisp and chewy. How was this meal so delicious and flavorful without feeling heavy at all? Extremely worth it - a must try!

Every visit reminds you why Parisi has survived since 1903 while trends and neighbors came and went. Let's talk about The Dennis--the undisputed star and a true signature sandwich. This thing is a monster, built on Parisi's legendary fresh-baked bread that somehow stays crisp, chewy, and perfect no matter how much goodness gets piled inside. You get a crispy breaded chicken cutlet layered with thin-sliced prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, and (if you know what you're doing) roasted red peppers. It's all brought together with their house balsamic blend and basil herb spread/pesto--bright, savory, and completely addictive. I cannot confirm or deny that the sandwich is named after me, but I can confirm it's flawless. Pro tips: * Cash only, old-school rules apply. * Come hungry or plan ahead--this sandwich is big enough to share or save half for later, and it still eats beautifully round two. * Tip the sandwich makers. These folks are artists, and the tip box deserves some love. Beyond the food, Parisi is living New York history. From its origins as an Italian bakery on Mott Street, to feeding generations of locals, to being famously beloved by Frank Sinatra (yes, the bread was shipped to California), this place is woven into the fabric of Little Italy/Nolita. Legends like De Niro and Scorsese are fans, and you can still feel that old-world soul--right down to the original brick oven relic resting in the basement. Parisi isn't just a deli. It's continuity. It's tradition. It's proof that when you do one thing incredibly well for over a century, people keep coming back. And once you've had The Dennis, you will too.
