My husband and I stopped by for my birthday dinner. We had been on the road for the last 5 hours and really wanted dinner before it was too late. We walked in about 45 minutes before closing and we were greeted by the on duty security guard and the hostess. Both were super sweet and friendly and we were seated instantly. Our waitress was Amy. She provided by far the best service we have ever experienced. She knew the menu and the drink menu very well. She suggested the White Cosmo and it did not disappoint! It was amazing! It was so good that I asked for the recipe from the bartender and Amy was sweet enough to provide it to us. The bread was warm and fresh out of the oven. My order was the 10oz steak, cooked medium and loaded bake potato with a side of grilled asparagus. My steak was cook perfectly and was extremely juicy and had amazing grill marks. My husband ordered the 8oz sirloin with coconut shrimp. The steak was also cooked perfectly and the batter for the shrimp was light and flavorful. The batter did not overpower the shrimp whatsoever. An overall amazing meal. We were constantly checked on by our waitress. Amy provided the best service I've ever experienced. Overall, considering we walked in on a Monday night and 45 minutes to closing... We were treated as if we walked in on the beginning of their shift on the day of payday! On our drive from New Orleans to Kerrville, TX, we stopped at Saltgrass for lunch. My wife had a grilled chicken salad and I had the chopped sirloin, smothered in sauteed onions, mushrooms, and a peppercorn sauce, with a side of mac and cheese. My wife's salad was good, but not any better or worse than other similar salads. My chopped sirloin and mac and cheese was also good, but I have had better (both items). An awkwardly placed location, you're past it before you realise it's there - though it was packed when we got there at 2pm on a week day. I liked everything about this place, though the food fell a little short. Greeter was lovely, she asked my husband (while I was in the restroom) if I would be more comfortable in a table or a booth (preggo people problems) and our server was very friendly. Whilst he was friendly and efficient, we had barely put our forks down before he was clearing the table. Hubby was still eating and had no plate to cast away his rib bones cause the server was so keen to clean. This is a bug bear of mine, I get it's easier for the server to pick up the plates in dribs and drabs, but my dining experience isn't about making things easier for the server. Wait til the whole table has finished each course before clearing the table. Fact. House Salads were tasty, croutons were excellent! Hubby had a dinner portion of chicken fried chicken with mac and cheese. I had a lunch portion half slab with steak fries. Hubby got screwed over on his portion size, he's had bigger lunch portions in our own Saltgrass in Houston!! Especially compared to the mountain of steak fries I got. My husband and I used to frequent Saltgrass often; however, the service and food quality we have recently been receiving has caused our visits to be less frequent. After yesterday, our visits will be NOT AT ALL. My husband works in another nearby state and tries to make it home on Sundays for Church. It has become our tradition to each lunch at a restaurant following Church. This Sunday, it was unanimous that it would be Saltgrass considering we hadn't been there in a while. Upon arrival just before noon, it looked to be going great as there was no wait. It got better when we got the waiter that we have grown to love and appreciate. We won't mention his name because we do not want to associate him with what happened in any way!! He took our order, was prompt with our drinks and appetizers. His demeanor always puts us in a happy mood! He is a joy! We get our appetizer and soup and salad. My husband and I banter back and forth like newlyweds and we see our main course arriving. My husband is handed his blackened redfish and just as this server (not our waiter) is about to hand me my chicken laredo, he notices that some grilled onions have fallen in my sweet potato fries AND.....HE STICKS HIS HAND IN MY PLATE, PICKS UP THE ONIONS AND FLICKS THEM ON THE TRAY! OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I STARED AT HIM IN DISBELIEF! JUST NASTY! I almost lost my religion. He then tells me that some onion was on my sweet potato fries and sets the plate down in front of me! Really!!!! When our waiter comes back and asked if everything is okay, I am still staring at that plate in shock. We explained what had happened and our waiter immediately picked up the plate and went to get the manager. Get this, the manager finally comes out and the first thing she says is "he is new and we will talk to him about this". WHY is the "new employee excuse" ALWAYS the go to? I don't care if he is new...basic common sense says you don't put your nasty hands that we have watched you use to clean off other tables and carry dirty dishes in ANYONE'S plate! This is my second time at Saltgrass Steak House this time in Beaumont. And just like the last time the food was Fantastic!

Drinks were good. Waited an hour for food, with no acknowledgment or apology. It was not busy.

Wow, this has to be the absolute worst "steak house" style food I have ever had. While I wasn't expecting Morton's, Vic and Anthony's or Maestro's quality, I did have expectations of the beef having flavor. I looked at the menu thinking an appetizer would be good to start, WRONG.... Most of the apps were something swimming or buried in cheese. If not, they were battered and deep fried. Pass on those... I ordered the prime rib, 12 oz cut. With a house salad and Brussels sprouts. I was smart enough to request the dressing on the side of the salad. After scraping away the cheddar cheese and pieces of baked, flour things (I think they were supposed to be croutons), I had a salad consisting of about 1/3 of a cup of lettuce. I think you can get the salad.... While finishing my salad, my prime rib showed up... The menu by design does not state what the USDA grade of the beef. What they do have is the "Certified Angus Beef". This has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of beef. It is a marketing scam to deceive the consumer established by the American Angus Association. Remember people, advertising is inherently deceptive. In looking at my piece of prime rib, there was absolutely zero marbling in the beef. While I have never been employed as a grader at a USDA slaughterhouse, I grew up raising beef cattle. I would estimate the USDA grade to be Standard-. Standard- is practically devoid of any marbling. What this translates to in taste is practically devoid of taste. That and it was quite tough. I thought well maybe the jus would have some flavor. WRONG...... I chose Brussels sprouts as a side because I was having prime rib which is typically rich and favorable. Well the Brussels sprouts were shredded with lots of oil added, not too good. Didn't eat them. I anticipated Brussels sprouts, halved and sauteed. Even in Beaumont Texas, I can buy meat with a USDA choice or prime grade at the grocery store or the meat market and cook it. It will be far superior to the beef at Saltgrass. M.Y. SERVICE: I came into this location 15 minutes before closing and naturally I just wanted to grab take out... After all only rude people would sit down knowing the time. I went to the bar and I asked Paul, the bartender, if I could order some takeout since they were about to close. He asked if I would like to sit down. Said it would not be an issue if I ordered in and said he had lots to do so it wouldn't be any bother. So I sat down and got a beverage of the adult kind. The drink was delicious and I ordered. Meanwhile he made conversation and really used his people skills to show he was enjoying his job. If you want a place to go with friendly service, go ask for Paul, he's awesome. They even have a security guard on staff which made me feel like they are watching my car while I was eating. M.Y. FOOD: I ordered the El Paso Chicken with Garlic Mashed potatoes and a side salad. The salad was crisp, the potatoes were not on my diet, but i enjoyed every bite. The chicken was prepared well and everything had a great taste. M.Y. It seems the Saltgrass brand is not as good as it once was. I like the rewards program card. In the past I thought we would order the wedge salad and it would arrive on a very cold plate with a nice chill to the blue cheese dressing. The last couple of times at different properties everything was at room temp. The bake potato that we order as a side was not exactly hot out of the oven which made it hard for the butter to even melt. We had the filet and ribs and it was just ok. Both my wife and I thought bread use to me much better. Taste like a different recipe because the bread is much more course and grainy (not soft warm and tasty). Little things the servers do makes me think they are not as well trained or they didn't take the training seriously, which just added to the experience not being worth the menu prices and expected tip for great service. Maybe I don't need to update my review since things are as good here as they ever were. Last week's visit was nearly flawless, thanks in large part to our server, Nathan. I once thought that it was all Saltgrass Steakhouses that were this good, but I tried one on East Freeway in Houston that fell way short. Not happy. Paid almost $30 for what was supposed to be a PRIME RIB. What I got was a bland and broiled, extremely tough piece of meat. Prime rib is cooked whole, and then sliced. If all you have there is presliced steaks DO NOT offer Prime Rib on the menu. PLEASE teach your kitchen how to prepare a proper prime rib, or take it off the menu. My wife and her brother both have celiac disease and ordered from the gluten free menu. After eating, they both experienced symptoms of eating something containing gluten. These symptoms include severe pain, vomiting and other GI symptoms. I called to discuss the situation, and David, The manager, refused to do anything to make the situation right. I'm not surprised... after reading some of the other yelp reviews regarding a manager named David. I'm still confused why a company would put someone in charge of a restaurant who refuses to offer even the most basic level of customer service. I guess I'll have to scratch Saltgrass off my list of acceptable places to bring my wife. One star since I can't leave anything less. read more

I definitely expected more out of a steakhouse in texas. The steak was good, but not great, and for the prices they charge, I was disappointed. Our waiter wasn't very attentive, but he did point out some interesting things about the casesar salad. I got the sirloin and shrimp, and it was somewhat salty (sirloin) but really tasted ok. The bread was ok too, but not as good as outback. Our total bill was over $90, which just seems high to me. I won't eat here again. I think its on par with outback, but outback would be cheaper. They are trying to be more upscale, but i just don't see it. Also, my steak was over done. I ordered medium rare and there was just one bite which had a warm red center. The rest was pink. I wanted to like this place more but I just couldn't do it. read more

Very nice meal here. Had the grilled chicken which was very moist and pretty good. As sides I had mashed potatoes and macaroni. The mashed potatoes were outstanding and I definitely recommend getting them, but the macaroni was not good. It had a breadcrumb topping that was very strong flavored and that affected the taste of the whole thing. The bread that they bring to your table throughout was also delicious. Couldn't get enough. So while the macaroni was lackluster, this place was very good and not as loud or obnoxious as some steakhouses back home. read more

I have been to this Saltgrass several times and the food and evening is usually quite good. I hesitated to write a review after my first dinner that was "off" thinking that it can happen...... However, my husband and I recently went to Saltgrass on a date night and we were less than impressed all the way around. Of course, we had to wait for a table, that is nothing new. However, once we were seated at a table (with no silverware) it was quite a while before anyone came and took our drink order. Actually we had already decided on dinner and ordered everything at once. After we finally got bread delivered and silverware, there was over a 30 minute wait on our dinner. In that time we saw our waiter once. Never did the manager come around to see if everything was satisfactory. When the food arrived it was lukewarm and just OK.... that is the most I can say about it. I expected and have had MUCH better meals there. The last two meals here have finally put me to the "I'll pass" answer when the option to eat at Saltgrass in Bmt is brought up. To top the entire meal off, we had to listen to tables being announced the entire time we sat there in the dining room. And, I don't mean that we could just hear it from the front.... Every time a table was ready it was announced to the entire restaurant. I am not exaggerating when I say that the speaker was both loud and very disruptive. There were several occasions when I had to ask my husband to repeat what he said because I missed it due to the announcement or we would just stop in the middle of our conversation and wait.... We would have mentioned it to our waiter, but he only came back once after we got our food for a quick drink refill. I was wishing a manger was out and about on duty. I had my answer all ready when he asked how my meal was..... but, that never happened. So, I will leave the answer here... It was a disappointing meal all around. read more

Very high prices for slightly above average food. The waiter was very prompt and My food was good but not the best. They charge way more for a steak than it is worth! I do like the decor and the size of the place! I went on a date here around lunch and it wasn't very busy about 3/4 of the tables were taken. The waiter had everything out to us in about 15 to 20 mins. I got the Monterey chicken which was great but the price Jesus lord... I guess that was a golden chicken haha! My date got a massive rack of ribs and he loved them. My favorite part of our meal has to be the peach tea or maybe the bread and butter they give. So the only bad thing about this place is the prices! Like I said the food was great and had good flavor but for the price I was expecting some kind of atomic bomb of flavor.
