We made reservations for 5 PM on a Saturday. When we arrived we were seated promptly at table 16. I know this because my birthday is 7/16 and I thought it was karma that we got that specific table. We sat and waited while several servers passed us and said someone will be right with you. Well we sat there and sat there and finally Ruben stopped and said he could take our order even though it wasn't his table. I ordered a San Pellegrino but Ruben said they had been out of it for some time. What??? We both ordered salads, the Hill Country salad with fried chicken was very good and my Steak Wedge salad was delicious. Ruben did ask if we wanted bread, apparently you have to ask for it, and we liked the bread a lot. The portions were large but our experience was mediocre. My first time at Saltgrass and my wife andI enjoyed our meal. The bread was pretty good, looks like a hamburger bun, a hearty wheat bread that was pretty tasty but i'd prefer sourdough any day . Pork ribs were on special and recommended by the waiter, meat fell off the bone , tasty BBQ sauce!! I ate the whole rack and would definitely recommend. Maybe just a little well done but the crispy edges were good. My wife had the Hill country salad and it was a pretty good salad. Egg and bacon bits were tasty kinda like a cobb salad. Chicken tenders on top were meh , not bad but not great. Salad dressing was very good, a homemade ranch with dill added to it was very bright and flavorful. Terrible experience overall. Came on a weekend with a party of 5 and were quoted 1 hour 30 minutes, but didn't get seated until almost 2 hours later. Even worse, there were plenty of open tables, and we easily could've been seated at one table or split into two. The whole seating process felt inefficient. We didn't get our food until around 9:30 PM, basically right after a large party near us finished and left. To top it off, prime rib is advertised for Friday and Saturday, yet it was mentioned that it was already sold out on Thursday. That's just misleading. I ordered the bone-in ribeye ($59.99) with loaded mashed potatoes ($1.99) and sautéed mushrooms ($8.99). It was... mid. Steak was cooked well, but just salty. The loaded mashed wasn't hot. Definitely not worth the price, and nowhere near good enough to justify the wait or the chaos. This is the only place in Tahoe that I found that serves Dos XX lager. Terry was our server. He was working by himself and running all over the place to take care of customers. Great guy. Eventually more employees showed up and helped Terry. They have several options on the menu. They serve breakfast till 2pm if I recall. Do not go during the day for take out. I go every week as a local in the afternoon or evening and have excellent service everytime. But today was the worst experience I ever had. The guy at bar was very unprofessional and deliberately made me wait so long one of the customers came up to me and felt bad I was treated the way I was. To top it off I get home and it wasn't even what I ordered. I work locally and people ask all the time where to go, I will tell them only go in evening if you want decent service. read more

Deeply disappointed in the service. This post was NOT busy. Maybe 10 tables and I saw at least 4 servers, except ours the entire time. Asked 3 times for a straw. A straw! Server brought salads and disappeared until right before they brought our food which was cold. I can understand maybe a bad day but they knew to be extra kind dropping off that dinner bill. The person who picked up our plates actually got us the extra items we needed. I felt bad for leaving a 15% tip but service ruined our cold meal. Small salad. Ugh...South Lake Tahoe... Unfortunately in this post Covid world we live in it's hard to find people who actually want to work. Our experience at the Saltgrass was no exception. We got seated right away by a hostess who was fine. Not friendly, just fine. Then we proceeded to wait a good 15 minutes without anyone even looking our way. There were three other tables who got seated after us and got waited on within minutes. We ended up leaving which was unfortunate because we love the food at the Saltgrass. You know the saying ... there's a first time for everything. And my recent experience at salt grass was the first time I've ever had to send food back to the kitchen. Ever. The service was great. The lady serving us was very nice and polite. The steak however was the worst I've ever had anywhere. I ordered the rib eye medium rare and what I got was a blue cooked (rarer than rare) steak. I sent it back saying it was undercooked. When it returned it was the same undercooked slop. The texture was pure rubber. The restaurant I guess wants to live up to its name with the salt... because my god the steak was oversalted and I honestly don't know if what I got was a ribeye... Anyways after this embarrassing experience for myself, the staff, my friends I was with and the waitresses they took off the cost of the meal and I got to "keep" it (pssst, I just threw it away after we left the restaurant, it was not salvageable). 1 star for the service the food is a solid 0, perhaps negative. My boyfriend and I came here and everything was fantastic. I was a little nervous because of some reviews (I'm super picky), but I'm glad we tried it. The service was really fast. We ordered the soup of the day, baked potato soup, and it was very tasty. The Caesar salad with light dressing was also perfect. My boyfriend got the center cut filet and it was amazing. I ordered the New York -- it was a bit undercooked for my liking. The baked potato was good, and the fried onions were really tasty. Overall, I'd definitely come back! We killed some time at the slots, came back within that window...only to find the same hostess had given our table to another party. No confirmation of name, no attempt to verify the reservation, nothing. We had literally just been standing at that host stand. When we pointed it out, instead of fixing their mistake, they told us we'd have to wait another 20 minutes which was then past our initial reservation. So, not only was our reservation ignored, but their "solution" was to have us suffer to their incompetence. It's baffling how a restaurant can operate with zero professionalism or basic organization. If you're planning to dine here, don't expect your reservation to mean anything--or for the staff to care when they screw it up. read more

We were quoted a 1.5 hour wait. Fine. Grab a drink, gamble a little, hang out. Actual wait? Just under 3 hours. Around the two hour mark, the hosts let us know they were basically waiting for diners who had already finished to feel inspired to leave. Apparently no one on the management team was comfortable asking them to get going so they could turn the table. So we all just stood there and watched them sip their and beers. Watching the clock. That's not "busy and popular." That's poor floor management. Once we finally sat down, ordering was the easiest part of the night. We were hungry, decisive, and ready. Then the food showed up. I ordered a bone-in ribeye, medium rare, with mash. What landed in front of me was medium well at best. It was salty, dry, and tough enough to qualify as a jaw workout. For $60, I expect a properly cooked steak. At minimum. If you're positioning yourself as a high end steakhouse, you have to deliver high end execution. This wasn't even close. The mash was alright but needed gravy or something... not included. Long wait, timid management, and an overcooked steak that costs as much as my lift ticket. Hard pass. Won't be back. read more

We both ordered the filet. One of us had the lobster (9oz) and the other the crab Oscar. The steaks were perfection. The lobster was tasty and tender. The Oscar unfortunately did not have capers, but was a good buttery complement. They accommodated a substitute for the asparagus for green beans. It worked well. Atmosphere was Texas style steakhouse. Good country music. Nice selection of whiskeys. The casino is under major renovations. While he was eager to share his wine knowledge and skills as an "intro sommelier," it came off as unnecessary and did little to improve the overall experience. For the same money, you're far better off at Sage Room or even Friday's Station, where quality and service feel more in line with what you're paying for. Everyone was very kind, & the atmosphere is very relaxed, much like an Outback Steakhouse. Unfortunately, the food was not only underwhelming, it was disappointing. We began with the Loaded Potato Soup, which was the highlight of dinner. It was very flavorful and gave us high hopes for dinner. The bread came out, it was pretty sweet, which we weren't a fan of. Then dinner arrived, I got the 12oz NY with loaded potatoes, & my husband got the 12 oz Ribeye with mashed potatoes. Mine: steak was well cooked, but not very warm. The potatoes were also so cool that the butter didn't melt (even on the steak.) The ribeye was so thin and was very tough. The regular mashed potatoes had no flavor, cold, & seemed like just a clump. We couldn't help but laugh because we were so surprised after the reviews I saw. It was not the worst meal, but I would expect to pay maybe $40 for this quality, vs our check $150. My wife & I have gotten to enjoy the Salt Grass restaurant. Lucas the server is always very accommodating, and has a good knowledge of the menus. My big complaint is the parking there. It's not that hard to get in. It's leaving! I get my check validated from the server in the restaurant which is fine. But leaving is impossible. The sun is shining in your face when trying to access the parking machine. So you can't read the very confusing instructions anyway. Then if you have to buzz the attendant both times he was very rude. I would like to join the Salt Grass for breakfast but I understand that your check has to be $50.00 in order to get your check validated. I am local and often eat alone. A $50.00 check is sometimes out of reach. I hate to say it but your difficult systems are costing you money, & reputation. Don't think I'll return. read more

I heard a lot of good things about this from others who've eaten here at other locations, I never have so was excited to try a new restaurant here in south lake. Maybe I had my expectations too high because of this. Food was decent, place had very few customers, service was just ok, server didn't check on us much, but he was friendly. Food was pretty good, I got the salmon with lump crab, which was really a creamy crab mixture (plain lump crab would have been better). The food was so salty though (maybe that's their trademark with the name and all?). My husband got the steak, also very salty but good other than that, and cooked perfectly.
