We got seated right away by a hostess who was fine. Not friendly, just fine. Then we proceeded to wait a good 15 minutes without anyone even looking our way. There were three other tables who got seated after us and got waited on within minutes. We ended up leaving which was unfortunate because we love the food at the Saltgrass. Quoted 1.5 hours. Didn't get to eat until almost 3 hours later. Strike one. Then, after finally sitting down, we're told the prime rib -- which they advertise as available Friday-Sunday -- has been sold out since Thursday. Thursday. Let that sink in. So why advertise it all weekend? Classic bait-and-switch. Get people through the door with prime rib, then conveniently push them toward more expensive steak cuts once they're already stuck waiting. What kind of nonsense is that? If you're out, say you're out. Don't waste people's time, hunger, and patience just to upsell them. Between the ridiculous wait and the misleading menu, this place managed to turn what should've been a good dinner into a frustrating experience. Won't be back. read more

So...we cannot eat veggies. We ordered the 16oz ribeye and grilled shrimp. We ask if we could substitute a shrimp or a piece of bacon for our side. No luck. We got our ribeye that should've been medium but instead was medium rare and the shrimp we got 5. For the amount of money spent would it not have been wise to give us 1 extra shrimp? We were attempting to reach a different steakhouse and ended getting lost with construction and decided fate led us here. We were very pleased with the service and the steaks were great! We both ordered the filet. One of us had the lobster (9oz) and the other the crab Oscar. The steaks were perfection. The lobster was tasty and tender. The Oscar unfortunately did not have capers, but was a good buttery complement. They accommodated a substitute for the asparagus for green beans. It worked well. Atmosphere was Texas style steakhouse. Good country music. Nice selection of whiskeys. The casino is under major renovations. Parking is no longer free at casinos ($20 for self park), but the restaurant validated for 8 hours free. Our server Mike was very attentive ad accommodating. Fate didn't "steer" us wrong. read more

You know the saying ... there's a first time for everything. And my recent experience at salt grass was the first time I've ever had to send food back to the kitchen. Ever. The service was great. The lady serving us was very nice and polite. The steak however was the worst I've ever had anywhere. I ordered the rib eye medium rare and what I got was a blue cooked (rarer than rare) steak. I sent it back saying it was undercooked. When it returned it was the same undercooked slop. The texture was pure rubber. The restaurant I guess wants to live up to its name with the salt... because my god the steak was oversalted and I honestly don't know if what I got was a ribeye... Anyways after this embarrassing experience for myself, the staff, my friends I was with and the waitresses they took off the cost of the meal and I got to "keep" it (pssst, I just threw it away after we left the restaurant, it was not salvageable). 1 star for the service the food is a solid 0, perhaps negative. My boyfriend and I came here and everything was fantastic. I was a little nervous because of some reviews (I'm super picky), but I'm glad we tried it. The service was really fast. We ordered the soup of the day, baked potato soup, and it was very tasty. The Caesar salad with light dressing was also perfect. My boyfriend got the center cut filet and it was amazing. I ordered the New York -- it was a bit undercooked for my liking. The baked potato was good, and the fried onions were really tasty. Overall, I'd definitely come back! Rolled in with my crew after a full day on the slopes, starving and ready to demolish some steak. Spirits were high. Expectations were reasonable. That didn't last long. We were quoted a 1.5 hour wait. Fine. Grab a drink, gamble a little, hang out. Actual wait? Just under 3 hours. Around the two hour mark, the hosts let us know they were basically waiting for diners who had already finished to feel inspired to leave. Apparently no one on the management team was comfortable asking them to get going so they could turn the table. So we all just stood there and watched them sip their and beers. Watching the clock. That's not "busy and popular." That's poor floor management. Once we finally sat down, ordering was the easiest part of the night. We were hungry, decisive, and ready. Then the food showed up. I ordered a bone-in ribeye, medium rare, with mash. What landed in front of me was medium well at best. It was salty, dry, and tough enough to qualify as a jaw workout. For $60, I expect a properly cooked steak. At minimum. If you're positioning yourself as a high end steakhouse, you have to deliver high end execution. This wasn't even close. The mash was alright but needed gravy or something... not included. Long wait, timid management, and an overcooked steak that costs as much as my lift ticket. Hard pass. Won't be back. read more

One Star. Absolute chaos. Welp, this was disappointing x1000. We arrived early, hoping to check in and be seated ahead of our reservation. The hostess told us "10 minutes"--perfect. We killed some time at the slots, came back within that window...only to find the same hostess had given our table to another party. No confirmation of name, no attempt to verify the reservation, nothing. We had literally just been standing at that host stand. When we pointed it out, instead of fixing their mistake, they told us we'd have to wait another 20 minutes which was then past our initial reservation. So, not only was our reservation ignored, but their "solution" was to have us suffer to their incompetence. It's baffling how a restaurant can operate with zero professionalism or basic organization. If you're planning to dine here, don't expect your reservation to mean anything--or for the staff to care when they screw it up. read more

The food was delicious. The service was excellent. The pricing was great. I had a ribeye steak with their baked potato and the baked potato soup. All were delicious and full of flavor. The bread served with dinner is fresh and warm. They give you butter that was made in house. I would 10/10 recommend. Very romantic in the winter with the snow and fire pits going. read more

Patricia was the absolute best. I saw her single-handedly run the bar, deliver a million drinks and food and deal with unruly drunk customers. The food was solid and the ambiance was great. Very expensive, the steak menu is around 50-60 bucks each at around 12-16 oz with tax and they're okay. Good quality and service if you'll overlook the prices. I wouldn't have gone if I'd have known it was a ripoff but I couldn't find their pricing anywhere. Oh well. Parking is confusing, you enter from the hotel side and go around the building to the steakhouse. Make sure to get your ticket and the server should validate it. read more

Unfortunately, Saltgrass fell short of expectations. The food was lackluster at best, especially for the price point. Our server was just "ok." While he was eager to share his wine knowledge and skills as an "intro sommelier," it came off as unnecessary and did little to improve the overall experience. For the same money, you're far better off at Sage Room or even Friday's Station, where quality and service feel more in line with what you're paying for. Came here again with family and chose the filet and added the lobster tail. The lobster was half raw and the steak was over seasoned. There was an extra charge for the side salad that normally comes with the dinners at the other Salt Grass I've been. I'm used to the Salt Grass I go to where they split the the plate if you're sharing for no fee but here it wasn't even a thought, they offered to bring a plate. It was so slow it wouldn't have done any harm for them to do a little work. Came here last night with my family. Needless to say, we will definitely be coming back soon. I ordered the filet mignon medium well with asparagus and raspberry iced tea (i don't drink). The steak was so tender and juicy and our waiter was very nice and did not mind explaining anything to us. The place was pretty packed but we got seated quickly and the restaurant was very clean and the lights are somewhat dim for those who can't see too well. Overall love this place and i definitely recommend the filet mignon. Licked my plate clean! read more

Everyone was very kind, & the atmosphere is very relaxed, much like an Outback Steakhouse. Unfortunately, the food was not only underwhelming, it was disappointing. We began with the Loaded Potato Soup, which was the highlight of dinner. It was very flavorful and gave us high hopes for dinner. The bread came out, it was pretty sweet, which we weren't a fan of. Then dinner arrived, I got the 12oz NY with loaded potatoes, & my husband got the 12 oz Ribeye with mashed potatoes. Mine: steak was well cooked, but not very warm. The potatoes were also so cool that the butter didn't melt (even on the steak.) The ribeye was so thin and was very tough. The regular mashed potatoes had no flavor, cold, & seemed like just a clump. We couldn't help but laugh because we were so surprised after the reviews I saw. It was not the worst meal, but I would expect to pay maybe $40 for this quality, vs our check $150. I heard a lot of good things about this from others who've eaten here at other locations, I never have so was excited to try a new restaurant here in south lake. Maybe I had my expectations too high because of this. Food was decent, place had very few customers, service was just ok, server didn't check on us much, but he was friendly. Food was pretty good, I got the salmon with lump crab, which was really a creamy crab mixture (plain lump crab would have been better). The food was so salty though (maybe that's their trademark with the name and all?). My husband got the steak, also very salty but good other than that, and cooked perfectly. Food was amazing! I got the urban cowboy and it was seasoned perfectly, but I still could taste the flavor of the steak and it was not over seasoned. Kelly was our server and she was very kind attentive and make sure we truly liked everything we ate. The main dishes took a while to come out but it was worth the wait and it allowed our party of 4 time to visit and conversate. The food, from the appetizers to the main dishes were delicious and made our eyes roll to the back of our heads...Lol. for reals, it was that good! Our server was Paulie. We were able to book a table for 10 for a Sunday breakfast for my mom's birthday. Place mostly empty when we arrived. It's inside golden nugget at Tahoe. Hard to get a Sunday reservation for a big party anywhere at Tahoe so I took a chance. Mgr wasn't aware of our reservation but quickly set up a large table. Seated within 5 minutes. Waitress was good and friendly. Menu very limited and very expensive. I ordered eggs Benedict for 18.99 and it came without a side like hash browns or any garnish. Worse, my poached eggs were well cooked but completely cold. Later learned that my daughter's steak (steak and eggs, $24.99) was completely cold. Also that my niece's pancakes were cold, and my brother's cfs ($24.99)was served without gravy and was burned on bottom to point of having to cut or scrape bottom off . Two mimosas ordered and neither were more than 4 oz for $12 each. I asked about no hash browns with my eggs Benedict and was told I could order them for $4.99, my brother asked about gravy for his cfs and was told he could get a side with a biscuit for an additional $12.99 I asked about my eggs being cold and was asked if I'd like them microwaved or order remade (about twenty minutes). I declined . I know that this is a new place , and interior is adorable, and people were nice enough, but when a simple breakfast sets you back over $300 with tip, the basics should be right. I will say that the folks (3) who ordered breakfast tacos said they were outstanding. The steak was way undercooked and the funny thing is that they didn't ask my temp pref. I like mid rare and this was purple. My wife and I went on Father's Day (June 15th). We had reservations for 7pm. We arrived at 6:45 and were quickly greeted and seated. Restaurant was about three quarters full. Then the wait. It was about 15 minutes before someone came by. We ordered water and a cocktail each. Those actually came out at a decent clip. Ordered our food. They did bring us bread and butter. Bread was not my taste, but the honey butter is good. My wife ordered the shrimp duo with Broccoli, I ordered the Filet cooked medium with a baked potato. We ordered another drink before food arrived. Took a bit for our food but not super long. The shrimp duo wasn't aesthetically pleasing but actually tasted decent. Broccoli was good. The filet was cooked a nice medium but was cold and lacked any flavor. Like butter on the top would not melt cold. Potato was good. Next round of drinks arrived well after dinner. Bar wasn't that busy for a draft beer. Our waitress was nice enough but absent for extended periods. Manager did walk by and ask how our meal was, so I told him. He was nice, apologized, and commented how several staff/cooks had called out. After we got our drinks (and talked to the manager) we waited a long time for the check. A very long time. I raised my hand and finally got up and flagged someone down to get our check. We got our bill slightly discounted which we did not ask for, was nice to do, but that was not the point. Prices seems reasonable for Tahoe but not so much when it is not very good. I feel bad for restaurants in general but also want to have at least a pretty good meal and experience if we pay a decent amount of money. This didn't meet that level. read more

We were vacationing in Tahoe for the first time at the Golden Nugget, The Saltgrass Steakhouse was one of only three eateries available as the hotel is currently undergoing a huge renovation. The other two were a Starbucks and The Oyster Bar (reviewed separately). We saved Saltgrass for our last night. Disappointing. Just because a restaurant calls itself a "Texas" steakhouse, that don't make it Texan! This eatery has got a great "Texas" feel. The staff is friendly. The menu fairly robust. We were looking forward to a good last meal on our last night in Tahoe. From there our experience devolved. A 15 minute wait for our server to arrive, although it appeared there was ample server coverage. Finally, we both ordered the 12 oz. ribeye steak - medium rare and took the server's suggestion and added the wedge salad. 20 minutes later the steak arrived. Cooked well. Decent but unremarkable, When our server checked on us, we told him we hadn't yet received our salads. He apologized and then said they would comp the salads (duh). Half way through the steaks, the salads finally arrived. We didn't eat them but they looked pretty good - too bad they hadn't come 40 minutes earlier! Overall it was a disappointing evening. Luck I had great company (my wife). If we return to the Golden Nugget, I won't be returning to the Saltgrass Steak House. Good luck to all! read more

So I was so excited to try this place! The reviews seemed great and I wanted a steak lol! We were seated right away which was nice, our server came right away to get our drink order and bring us bread. I ordered a side salad, potato and sirloin. The service after we ordered was just mediocre. The guy who brought us our food was interesting... brought us the food and then we didn't get checked on for quite some time. I ordered my steak as medium and got well done. The seasoning was good but super well done. When our waitress did come by we explained that the steak was well done she sent the manager over who was very apologetic and determined to make it right. He was able to clearly see it was very well done. I will say I was grateful to her for speaking up and him for coming out to make it right. When we did get the check we waited about 10 mins and no one came to grab the check so we took it inside and saw that our waitress was also serving inside so I'm guessing that they were understaffed and that was why we had delay in service. She was pleasant and I don't blame her for the over cooked meal, but do wish we would have had someone check on us right after so we could have shown it was over cooked from the start. I was excited when I saw there was a Saltgrass in S Lake Tahoe. I only knew of it when I used to travel to Texas for work. It was easy to make a reservation on Open Table. Staff was above friendly. Our server was more than happy to make recommendations and he made good ones. We got the fried pickles as an app, grilled salmon Ceasar salad and filet (rare) for entrees. The portions were generous and the steak was properly cooked. We'll definitely return. read more

When I politely told the waitress (Alyssa) and showed it to her, she argued with me so I had to ask for the manager. The manager came out and immediately acknowledged that the steak was blue and said he would take care of it. By that he apparently meant that he would tell the waitress to come back to the table without an apology and just announce that it was taken off my bill.
