I'm going to leave one of the worst reviews I've probably ever written. The honest truth is when you get food poisoning. How bad does the review really have to be? Just the sheer mention of the word food poisoning should scare you away from eating anything from this restaurant. About 20 minutes after we left this restaurant my wife became deathly ill. She had violent stomach cramps and threw up within an hour. That was at 5 o'clock this afternoon, she has been sick all night and she is in the bathroom now even sicker. On myself, I've been sick within about 45 minutes of leaving the restaurant. The baked potatoes that we ate, had some dark spots in them and some potato eyes growing shoots. Usually when a potato begins to shoot, it's gone bad. Dark spots on a potato can also be a reminder that maybe the potato was not fresh. Both potatoes tasted off, but it was difficult to discern because both baked potatoes were loaded. Our daughter ate with us, but she had french fries. Our daughter steak was supposed to be medium well and it was very rare. My chicken fried chicken was slightly overcooked, and the breading did not stick to the chicken and simply fell off. My wife is in a situation where she cannot have gluten and she cannot have dairy. They mention that they had a gluten-free dairy free menu, which was offered. It looks like most of her food had some type of butter on it, and although there was no gluten dairy was possibly present most of her food having eaten dairy, even though she requested no dairy and she didn't see dairy it potentially is making her food poisoning much worse. I am writing this in the throes of being very sick. Freshness is critical and trust in a restaurant that they serve. Fresh items is vital important. If you're going to serve me garbage then please see me by the dumpster, don't feed me garbage in the restaurant and pretend that it's OK if you're going to sell, spoiled produce and cover it in bacon cheese and dairy products just know that you're still covering a rotten potato. When someone says they can't have dairy and they can't have gluten and you furnish a menu that is gluten-free and that person still tells you they can't have dairy, but you put dairy on the food may be in a way it can't be seen maybe it's by accident. But now two people have paid $115 to go home and be sick. That's an inexcusable. read more

I had a delivery order. Wasn't pleased with the food! Steak was chewy and couldn't eat it. Baked potato was cold. No butter or sour cream. On the website it doesn't let you order your toppings. Oh my! the TINY Caesar salad! No croutons or cheese. The lettuce was brown. Nothing fresh about it! Just because it's a to go order you can cut corners! This was a $45 meal! I'm sad to say this was our very first bad experience at a saltgrass steakhouse. The meal took over 25 minutes to come out. When it got to the table the steak was not hot and the baked potato was almost cold. We were never offered any compensation for the wait or the poor quality of the food. Piss poor oversight of food. While they serve a nice steak I had the full rack of ribs expecting good well cooked pork. It was bad over cooked ribs. Why I asked was this so charred and dry? The server told me that is the way they make them. I wanted at least the ribs to be taken off the bill as we then had to pay. Screw that we are members and will let you know. The manager came by earlier but not for this problem. They also have pork chops that they burn and we will not go to that restaurant again. So my husband and I thought it would be a good thing to take our son there since he never ate there. Boy was we were wrong, the food was totally nasty. For starters my dinner salad had picese of the salad core mixed in my salad. And the bread they gave us was hard and dried out. The country fried steak was mostly all batter and very little meat under all that batter. Plus it was very salty too and over cooked. My husband mashed potatoes had a very strange taste to them so he couldn't eat them and my bake potatoe was cold wouldn't even melt the butter. My son french fries was no good either. The only thing good at that place on Saturday the 8th was our service. But as far as the food it sucks bad. So will not recommend this place to no one. This was our second visit to Salt Grass in Waco, however our first experience wasn't very good. We decided to try it again 9 months later. We were greeted by our smiling waitress almost immediately. Her name was Dora. She was very kind and tentative to our needs without hovering. She brought our drinks out rather quickly. I then ordered a mix drink that wasn't very good and she immediately had it exchanged out, apologized and made sure the next drink was satisfactory. She took our food order and while we waited she asked if anything else was needed and she'd be happy to get it for us. I wasn't sure what to order and she recommended the Country Fried Steak. So that's what I ordered. It definitely didn't disappoint. it was much bigger than I could eat, and the flavor was amazing. It was freshly made, hot, crunchy and the batter on the steak and most of all I could just use my fork to cut if I chose. The gravy was really good that it was paired with. I opted to add the broccoli for my side and was very good and fresh. My husband ordered steak and brussel sprouts and didn't care for them since they were overcooked. Again, Dora offered up an exchange side and brought it out to us without hesitation. She kept all the empty dishes, cleaned off the table that were no longer being used and made sure our drinks were filled at all times. When we got ready to leave, she offered us to go boxes and drinks for the road. I would definitely go back and visit Dora and saltgrass again. Our overall experience was turned around and I feel Dora made all this possible. I was in Waco for a couple of days attending meetings and needed a place for a late lunch/early dinner. I check around and saw that Saltgrass was close by and their lunch specials ran until 4:00 in the afternoon. It was a perfect fit so off I went. After a short drive from my hotel, I arrived at the restaurant. Since it was 3:30 in the afternoon, the restaurant was virtually empty. I looked over the lunch menu and decided on ribs, garlic mashed potatoes and a dinner salad with oil and vinegar. After a short wait, my lunch entree was ready and brought to my table. The ribs were really yummy. There were two half racks on the plate (more about that in a minute), and the garlic mashed potatoes were creamy, garlicky, and hot, very delicious. The ribs were wonderful, fall off the bone delicious. When I received my check I noticed I was charged for the dinner instead of the lunch entree, hence the two racks of ribs. I guess the server misunderstood my order. I mentioned it to the server when I looked over the check. He took the check back to the manager who adjusted the bill immediately without any hassle. Salad is very good, difficult to describe but salad as a whole was really good, croutons were not rock hard, but still had the crunch, dressing was good and the combination of all items complimented each other Artichoke and Spinach Dip is okay, kind of average. Peter's Ribeye very good, tender, full of flavor and cooked as requested. Highly recommend entree, no need for steak sauce, flavor takes care of itself. First perfectly cooked medium well steak I've ever had, and it was a T-bone which is pretty hard to get right. I also recommend the baked potato soup potato, it's amazing! I recently visited the SaltGrass in Arlington TX for a family members birthday dinner. The waitress that helped us was awesome... but one of the dining party found an adult roach in their mash potatoes. The entire party stopped eating because where there's one roach, there are Many! The young lady cleaning the table, no mask. The two cooks in the kitchen, no mask, I could see in the kitchen from my seat. One server, mask under chin. Server taking mask up and down when entering and leaving the kitchen. Kitchen director, no mask. Please follow your rule or remove the sign from the door. The server we had wore a mask and was very attentive. The salad came very quickly. The entree took 40 minutes. When the pork cop arrived, it was not cooked correctly. I ordered well done, no pink. It was pink. It was gone for 5 minutes, and was done. The salad was sad. Ice burg lettuce and rusty. The meal was good once we got over the doneness. Over all, things were good. read more

This was just an average restaurant. The appetizer was $19.00, but when we got the bill, it was $25.00. We got the jalapeño rattlers, and it was just heat with no taste. The salads were good. Filet Oscar missed the mark by a mile. Hollandaise is normally served withe crab and asparagus. They serve it with green onions, a weird lemon butter with green onions. Ribeye was lacking in taste. Needed salt desperately to make that nice crust. Rattler bites were expensive and lacked taste and cheese. Waitstaff was nice. No bread. Loaded potato had the equivalent of a teaspoon of cheese in the potato. I'm not sure I've ever been to such a tasteless steakhouse. Alot of people said it's Texas best. I originally drove to this area to go to Chuy's but noticed lights from the steakhouse! I said to myself, what is this place!? After you've asked yourself that question you know you have no choice but to check it out!!! Good thing I did! The food was outstanding! Seasoned very well and delicious! The portions are decent size and they have plenty of options for steaks, cuts, and types of meat. If you are not a steak eater they have other options which I found to be just as delicious! The staff was friendly and very helpful with the menu choices. My plan was to give a 5-star but unfortunately I could not after my wait time. It was a busy night so I sat at the bars open seating. I received my drink but it took me asking for a menu before someone went to get one. After I ordered i noticed other people arriving and being served before me. So I think their can be a little more improvement on wait times and staff efficiency. A few times I caught staff members standing around talking when they could've been checking on guests. The project team went here for dinner (all eight of us...), and we had a pretty good time. We chose this place as one of our group was a diabetic and this restaurant had a nice selection that she could select from (as opposed to Heitmillers, and other places.) The wait staff was a bit slow (probably other large groups in there before us), but everyone seemed to have a nice time, and the event was a success. I had the steak salad, and it was very good. It came with just the vinaigrette dressing and blue cheese crumbles...and even had small potatoes in the mix...and that was just enough. Would love to see this chain up here in Salt Lake City!
