Chef Dante's Sea Scallops are my new favorite food. I will definitely go back to this elegant and friendly restaurant. We walked in at 8:45 on a Sunday night, and the staff welcomed us like old friends. On Dante's recommendation, we shared the Sea Salt Chicken (coated in crispy panko batter, served with mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe), truffle fries (I'd go back for these alone), and Sea Scallops. The scallops arrived on a bed of fresh summer corn, with cherry tomatoes, and green beans from a staff-member's garden. Until this week, Kisaku has been my favorite place for scallops, but these were even better, crispy, sweet and succulent. We had the good fortune to eat at Volterra earlier in the week. Food is ok here but I really love there dessert. So I got three pots de creme to go which is like a custard pudding consistency. Got home with them and literally there was like a spoonful in each box. Wayyyyy less then the restaurant portions. And it was 27$$. Really disappointed. Won't be going back or ordering. read more

The Truffle Fries are alone good enough to make a stop at this innocuous gem in North Seattle. The Burger with Gruyere is my go to and they have Old Seattle Lager on tap, which is a win in my book. We are return customers to this neighborhood restaurant. So glad to have a "restaurant" nearby and convenient from traffic. The service is friendly and happy to accommodate. We enjoy the truffle shoestring frites. Parmesan and tarragon herbs top this appetizer. It's expensive, though at $9 per large plate of fries. We also carb-ed out with linguini & shrimp. My son had a burger. Both were good. They have a full bar, but no happy hour. Being in Seattle on a 90 degree day, we were appreciative for air conditioning. read more

Fabulous Italian!! Just returning after 2 months in the Mediterranean and not so much liking our food in US, then we found this. Had the charred broccolini (done perfect), the Portuguese Stew (a wonderful amalgam of warm, spicy flavors with perfectly done seafood) and the Berry Cobbler for dessert (warm, luscious berries and topping with creamy melting vanilla ice cream!). Great service, too. The only thing we missed was some fabulous Italian bread to mop up the stew (and stave off insane hunger pains from a 3 hr flight plus drive north from the airport), but were delivered promptly when we asked. Unknown gem! We have been here twice now. It is absolutely a fabulous restaurant. A little outdated as mentioned, but the food and service totally makeup for it! The food is exactly what you expect.. good quality and changes to match the seasons. The Chef knows his/her art and is willing to play around with the menu so you can come back and not get bored with the same fare. Their dishes are excellent, and are very accommodating to a variety of diets, including picky eaters. I moved into the neighborhood two blocks from Saltoro. I had a fabulous meal with a friend the first time I ate there. However, the first time I went in alone and sat at the bar, service wasn't good. The second time which was a couple of days ago, the service was non-existent. They were slammed and I want to say that up front. But, I waited 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged my existence, and dropped the menus. Ten minutes later a waiter-person asked if I wanted something to drink. I ordered, ten more minutes went by and I finally got up and left. I get tired, since I'm single, of being ignored at some places. I'm male which may have something to do with it. I was hoping this could be my neighborhood watering hole. Anyone know of another good place nearby? read more

We have been driving by this little gem for over a decade! We decided to actually give it a whirl tonight and it was fantastic! My husband had the 3 course, $28 special. He had the pork belly appetizers, seared scallops with prawns and risotto as his main course and salted caramel ice cream for dessert. All 3 courses were outstanding. I had the Saltoro salad which was a big bowl of very fresh and crispy greens. A nice balsamic with toasted almonds and blue cheese. Huge salad that needs to be shared unless it's all you're getting. My main course was the Catalonia Braised Rib and again, terrific. Red wine reduction sauce, Yukon potatoes, carrots and leeks. We were so pleased with the atmosphere of this restaurant. You can't even tell you are right on Greenwood. It is tasteful and nice inside. Servers were happy to be there and interacting with customers. Our server, Erika was fantastic. She had great recommendations, chatted with us a bit and really made our dinner nice. We can't wait to go back. Oh, and don't forget the cocktails! Very nice! Great cocktail menu of unusual and delicious blends. The ginger pear was great, as was the "Fresca" that's their concoction of grapefruit vodka, cranberry juice and a few other yummy things. Went back to Saltoro last week and still we had great service. We had the burgers (amazing!) and the dessert (pots de creme). Both were very good. We got to sit next to the fireplace too. I tried the Sea Salt Roasted Half Chicken. It was the saltiest dish I have ever tasted. I do realize that the name of the dish includes the words sea salt, but my tongue was actually numb after finishing this dish because of how salty it was. It was difficult, but I did eat most of the dish, although I probably would have sent it back if someone had come to check on me at any point. When the waitress came to collect my plate she asked me how the food was. I let her know how salty it was, and that my tongue was numb from how salty it was. She pointed out that the dish was called Sea Salt Roasted Half Chicken, and suggested ordering it with less salt next time... I don't anticipate there being a next time for me, but that is good advice for anyone considering ordering that plate. It was an odd and unsatisfactory experience. read more

This was one of the best roast chickens I have had! So juicy and great flavors. My partner had the steak which was cooked to perfection and was delicious. Their dessert was a bit undercooked, we had the fallen chocolate cake that was like a lava cake - it could use a few extra minutes in the oven, but definitely didn't stop us from eating it all! This is currently my favorite restaurant and has been for over a year. The prices are modest (about $15-$20 per entre), the specials I've ordered have always been great and the normal menu is consistently good. The service I've received has been excellent. I'm not sure what it is but 90% of the time I go there with a guest I get the same waiter, a middle aged guy that knows everything about anything on the menu and exactly what wine would best pair with the food I order. I'm thinking he has to be the owner? I was so impressed with the consistently good food that I bought a gift card for my parents (who live in Gig Harbor). It took them awhile to take advantage of it but they eventually did and BOTH of them really enjoyed Saltoros. This place is a winner. read more

I really don't know why this place isn't more well known than it is but i'm certainly not complaining as it gets to remain my hidden gem. The atmosphere is pleasant, the cocktails i've sampled have been amazing (especially when they do the house made infused liquors) and the beer selection is also great. The service has never been anything but fantastic (attentive but not TOO attentive and always friendly) but for me the stand out factor is the food. You pretty much can't go wrong if you order off the specials menu no matter what it is. I've had some of the best prepared salmon of my life here and the price is very reasonable. My go tos are the Salmon pasta, the arracini balls and of course, the truffle fries. I also really enjoyed the poached pear dessert but i fear it may be seasonal. Saltoro is ok, buy Bick's is better. Bick's and Saltoro are under the same ownership and are only about 5 mins apart (driving) on Greenwood Ave. Saltoro has a great atmosphere inside the restaurant for dinner, but the food came up a little short. I really like how they keep the menu short and sweet because that makes me think they do everything really well. Turns out they do some things well and come up short on others. The fish dish my fiance ordered was delicious, but my pasta dish was very small on flavor and portion. read more

Tried this neighborhood spot with my girlfriend after driving past it dozens of times. It's Italian with a Spanish influence I guess. Staff was really friendly. I had the special which was a Parmesan Risotto which was really good, she had the chicken and mashed potatoes (a little heavy on the salt) which was also very good. We really like this place. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but the food is really good. We've shared the truffle fries appetizer with the table. I'm not a big truffle oil fan, but they are pretty addictive. I've also had the halibut and it's always been great. They also have a dessert I could do a face plant in. We came here on a Friday for our niece's 22nd birthday. Her friends planned it out since their family frequents this place often. They set up quite a display to surprise their friend; balloons, roses, and birthday hats. Even with this display, our server didn't once acknowledge her birthday. Now, as a server myself, I understand that the young adults at our table had a lot of energy and were excited to be out celebrating. This might have made it hard to grab everyone's attention when it was time to order, but read your table and SPEAK UP. Give them more time if they need it, or ask if you can help them through the options. God forbid you suggest a favorite! If it weren't for the food, we'd be giving this place zero stars. But, the food was fabulous. Definitely try the truffle fries and anything with seafood. The portions look kind of small for the price, but it was just the right amount. At the end of the meal we asked if the server could split our check and she responded to someone's question about splitting it with a little too much sass for our taste. Needless to say, we won't be returning. Oh! Someone in the kitchen told us Happy Birthday on the way out! That was a plus. The moral of the story is go here for great food, but the service this time around was a dud... the person who comes here often said the service is usually really good, though. Give it a shot if you feel up to having pricy, but delicious food. Hopefully you'll get service that's worth the price of admission. read more
