Stopped at this restaurant when my cruise vacation was cancelled and my 2 weeks off became a little bit more of a staycation. This restaurant was clean, socially distant/responsible, but most importantly the food was great!! Clam were sweet and delicious! My friend's burger was cooked perfectly and juicy! Newly opened restaurant in Gloucester Stopped by for lunch on Sunday. Saltwater is just off the rotary in Gloucester. The restaurant (though opened 2 weeks ago) was about 1/2 filled for Sunday lunch at 1PM. Decor Clean and modern decor, quality tables and seating - bar, high top tables, "acrylic paint on canvas" nautical paintings sprinkled around the restaurant. It's quiet inside (good ceiling sound insulation) - comfortable for families. TVs at the bar are not too loud, background music is just that. You can have a conversation with your guests here. Bathrooms are modern and clean. The quality in the decor raises our expectations - and we hope the food delivers too. And it does. Presentation & Taste While I waited and ate, watched other patrons food delivered - everything I saw - good presentation, quality plates, cloth napkins. I chose an unusual lunch dish where emphasis (due to location) is likely on fish... but I was in the mood for salad. Ordered the Caesar Salad with blackened chicken and a side of cole slaw. For desert, the Apple Walnut cake. The salad was prepared well, fresh romaine, tasty chicken. The cole slaw was house made, a good handful with good seasoning and just the right sweetness.. and not too wet - just as I like it. The apple walnut cake was very good. Give them a try. read more

Interesting spot for a fish place in Gloucester - right off of Grant Circle where the Friendly's used to be. Interior is very nice. Lots of sea themed paintings (for sale but a bit pricey). The menu is similar to other seafood restaurants in the area as far as items and prices. We ordered off of the lunch menu and went with a special of the day in swordfish and salmon tips with rice (thumbs up), fish and chips (only a partial thumbs up as my mother didn't like the tartar sauce and felt the fish portions were too big) and the Ciopinno for me which I liked and did order a side of rice to mix in as it was just seafood in the broth and I like a bit more substance to fish stews like that. All generous portions at reasonable prices for the area. For drinks, I went with a sea leg which was light on the alcohol and heavy on the lemon flavor. My dining partner tried a couple of beers and liked them. We even splurged and got dessert. The mousse cake was decadent. The peanut butter cake was very good too. It was very quiet at lunch on a Sunday but did fill up as we ate our meals. We'll definitely return as the menu had many items that looked tasty and I like that they have unique daily specials. read more

We spent three days in Gloucester and Just fell in love with this place. We ate there our first night in town and even though we had a list of other restaurants that had been recommended to us, my wife and I decided to go back the second night. Be careful when ordering. Very disappointed. I'm not from the area and ordered online from the beach. Used the restaurant's website to place and pay for my order. When we showed up to pick up our food, the restaurant was closed and the door said "closed for the season." The restaurant charged our account and now we have to dispute the charge. read more

My little one and I had a great early dinner here on Sunday. I loved the burger! It was big, great bun and yummy. Plus I subbed a lovely side salad for 2$ and the total was 12$ which is cheaper than places with not so good burgers. My Bloody Mary didn't have a ton of extras in it, but it was DELICIOUS, and my girl's kids fish and chips was great. Cons: no view (the decor is nice tho apart from the low friendly's ceiling) and they charged 2$ for a soda water and splash of juice- which usually is included in kids meal. If I was going to pay for her drink, i would have ordered something worth more! I go to a lot of places where I pay 7-8$ and desert and drink are included for kids. After leaving two restaurants because of extraordinary long wait times, we had dinner at The Saltwater Grill, a fairly new restaurant in Gloucester Massachusetts. We started with the clam chowder and fried brussel sprouts which was a specialty that evening, both were excellent. The fried brussel sprouts were plentiful, the clam chowder unfortunately had very few clams but the broth was delicious. We split the triple seafood dinner which was fried scallops, fried clams, and fried shrimp. The portion was huge, I cannot imagine someone eating it on their own. The fried seafood covered a mountain of french fries, and we got fried onion rings as well. The onion rings were perfection, but the fries would have benefitted from an extra two minutes in the fryer. Everything was delicious, nothing was overcooked. Tartar sauce was delicious, coleslaw was not soupy but could have been seasoned a bit more. Service with our waitress, Heidi, was excellent, she was quick to bring drinks from the bar and attentive to us. A cosmos ordered was strong and tasty. The Muzak was upbeat, and the noise level moderate. We received the check in a timely manner and after giving our credit card, received our receipt quickly. We would definitely go back if we were ever in the area again. read more

One of the best restaurants in the Cape Ann area. The Haddock is the best I have ever had anywhere. I was turned onto this place by a local fisherman, so you know it's good. My wife and I decided to have lunch and watch the Patriot/Red Sox games. We ordered the Bloody Mary with Shrimp. The drink was just OK but the shrimp was tasteless and the vegetables were limp. We ordered the scallop plate and the fish and chips. I have to say the portions were generous, but the flavor and texture of the scallops were way off. The scallops were mushy and bitter. I ate two and could not eat any more. My wife's fish and chips was again a large portion, but that also was way off. The fish had a distinct ammonia taste and odor. For more than $100 I expected more, much more. At lease the pats and Red Sox won which is more than I can say about the restaurant. read more

We stopped by for dinner on the way back from Rockport, on July 4th. I'm so glad we did! The restaurant has a large patio in the front. We seated outside and we felt very safe and distant from other clients. The food was delicious. I was craving clams, so I ordered them both sautéed and fried. They tasted very fresh and were cooked to perfection. My daughter had fish and chips. The kids portion was very generous, but they only charged us $7. My husband had the Portuguese fish chowder and the backed haddock. He liked them both. The waitresses were super nice and helpful and the owner greeted us before we left. We will be back! read more

As we pulled up to park, the owner came out to greet us, openly. We discussed familiar areas in Florida, once I told him I was visiting from FLA. It is thrilling to see the old Friendly's space not only occupied, but nicely decorated with nautical paintings. The open space floor plan makes for a comfortable setting, regardless of whether you're eating at a table or at the long, well-appointed bar (nice touch to install AC & USB charging outlets at seated knee level for bar patrons!). Most, importantly, the food I ordered was great! I had the cioppino (I requested it served over a side of rice, to make it a bit more like a seafood stew, but the next time I'm back, I plan to ask for a little chorizo to be tossed in & I bet it'll give Manny's cataplana at The Azorean a run for the money!) which was fresh & delicious, featuring little neck clams & 3 goodly sized pieces of haddock! And for a few bucks more, I added the side Caesar salad & washed it all down with an excellent beer (they've got good selection of on-tap beers, too). Top it off with the ever-friendly face of Patty (from Two Sisters fame) behind the bar & you've got a totally winning combination that will not only please the tourists, but will likely appeal to the locals...once they give it a try!
