We hated being those people who came in the last thirty minutes, but they welcomed us with smiles anyway. Everyone was amazing and our server incredibly attentive. The food was WOW. Remarkable. An iconic tourist spot but also many locals come back. I went to the actual Sea Pines Resort one but I couldn't find it on the search tab for the review. The outside deck/patio was packed with people and a musician playing awesome tunes. Order a Watermelon Crush to start and it was pretty darn good. The food was fantastic. Service is outstanding. The whole logo and cult like following is huge. On Hilton Head I've counted no less then 20 Salty Dog Cafe pieces of clothing be worn on any given day ( of course I bought a shirt). Great atmosphere. Ordered Gator Bites ( best I've had) raw oysters, a Po Boy , and the fish special ( mahi mahi) All the food was sensational. Most the sides, French fries, coleslaw were average but the mains were a hit. Definitely will come back. I now see why it has such a big following and a monster brand. We stopped in here for lunch on a quick stop at the outlet mall our way to Beaufort and saw Salty Dog. We had eaten at the one in Hilton had many years ago and decided to try this one. I must say we were very pleasantly surprised at how good the food was and the portions for the money. All of our meals were very good. We tried she-crab soup, fried fish sandwich, and the crab cakes. They were all very good! The only thing that we didn't really like were the hush puppies. Being on a gluten free diet I was really craving pizza and found Salty Dog and boy, I'm so glad I did!!! It was phenomenal!! My husband ordered a supreme pizza and it was delicious as well! Stopped by after a morning of shopping in Hilton Head. Expected to have a wait - however we walked right in and were immediately seated. Hostesses were okay, but our server was incredibly kind and assertive. We had the meat lovers pizza and a large salad. The salad was fresh with baby spinach and not just a bunch of iceberg lettuce. I went there 2 years ago and couldn't wait to go back again! Well that's where the wheels came off, we went in and were told there would be a 35-45 minute wait, (it rained all day, Saturday, so I guess everyone was going to eat) which was understandable. We went back 35 minutes later to check (because they hadn't texted me yet) and I was told that I would have a 30 minute longer wait, so we were very hungry and I told them not to worry about it we would go eat elsewhere, they wanted to get the manager and ten minutes into explaining to the manager we were hungry and going to get food now, to which a row of seats had opened at the bar, we were seated and ordered drinks, about ten minutes later we got the drinks and ordered our food, we then waited about 50 minutes so I was going to pay for the drinks and go eat somewhere else, once again they got the manager, then ten minutes into that, they said they were bringing our food so we went back to our seats where they had taken the food back to the kitchen then brought it back ten minutes later overcooked and cold, to which I was asked how is it and when I told her she said, you guessed it, let me get the manager, I told him the same thing, he was willing to remake it but it was too late, because it was two hours later. So when I went to pay the bill they didn't think that they should do anything, like maybe comp the drinks or give me a discount but they asked again about the service and food, to which I told them I would never come back and they just said ok! read more

We were running errands in Bluffton and decided to stop for lunch. I called ahead to see what the wait would be (Sunday at noon in the outlets). No wait for a table of two. When we arrived a few minutes later, still no wait, and we were taken to a table. I almost always order the crab cakes at Salty Dog because they are Maryland style (not Carolina style with pimento). This lunch sells for $20, and I am not going to lie, I was disappointed. There wasn't any lump meat in this crab cake it was all the tiny flaked meat. It was smaller than normal, but it had good flavor, and the romoulade was good. Overall, I will not be in a hurry to eat here again. Very thick but not too sweet. Tasted like cornbread. I'm not really a coleslaw person but I did enjoy the coleslaw. It wasn't mushy at all and had a nice crunch to it. I know there are various locations and while I was staying in Hilton Head Island, I continually heard rave reviews about the Salty Dog Cafe location in Bluffton. Anywho, I was on vacation here with my bf, his family and not only was this restaurant recommended by the family but also by a kind, nice man on my flight to SC. Needless to say I was excited to try this place. This particular location was in a nice little strip meal which I enjoyed. I love being a tourist and I love shopping so, food AND shopping in beautiful SC, I'm there! First off, the story of how Salty Dog Cafe came to be is super sweet! As an intense dog lover and owner myself, the story of heroic Jake warms my heart. If yaall do not know the story, I suggest you look it up, it'll make you smile for sure. Secondly, the decor of the place was super cute! It was very nautical, lots of sunlight and clean. The fact that the staff was hustling and bustling was nice too because you knew the place was popping and the food was fierce. Our service was quick and fast which was great because we were hungry. The servers were also nice and attentive. I ended up ordering the Crake Cake sandwich because, well, you're by the water and it sounded DELICIOUS!!! When I received the sandwich, it was so good! The lump crab meat was succulent and tasty. Definitely none of the fake stuff here! The sauce it came with was so good, it was tart but not so much it was off putting. Definitely helped to make the crab meat more succulent and zesty! The brioche bun was perfectly crisp piled high with fresh green veggies. The fries, eh, I was indifferent about. Didn't hate them, didn't love them. But!!! love seafood and I love sandwiches so this sandwich checked all the boxes. Fresh, tasty and just all around yummy!
