Went to the outlet and decided to grab lunch. Went to The Salty Dog. Love the story behind the establishment. Apparently the owner and his dog were at sea and the boat sunk. The dog, Jake swan/dragged his owner for 3 days ro safety. I believe a portion of the proceeds benefit dog rescue. The service was excellent. The grilled fish tacos were very good. The cheese steak sandwich was very good as well; however, I did not love the horseradish sauce. Would definitely return. read more

First of all this is the location in the Tanger Outlets. I thought this was the actual restaurant....it is not. BUT this place is really good! I can only imagine what the other location is like. I was a little worried about my experience when we first sat down because it was really hot in the restaurant and it took forever to get drinks. They must have seen me fanning myself with my son's kids menu though because I could soon feel some a/c blowing towards me. I ordered water to drink forgetting that Hilton Head/Bluffton water always tastes funky (at least to me and my daughter, husband doesn't ever notice it). I ordered the chicken tenders with fries and BBQ sauce. I thought it was really good. The breading on the chicken was a teeny bit overcooked but the chicken itself was not. My daughter got a HUGE chicken sandwich that she couldn't finish (she enjoyed it, just so much food). Husband and son shared a 16 inch pizza with three pieces left over, so probably could've gone with the 12 inch. Overall, good meal. Would definitely stop back in next time we are in town. read more

I just got back from dinner with my friends. I am usually very happy with the food at Salty Dog, but this time my meal was horrible. So why did I give them four stars? There were too many good things for me to give them a bad review. - The Greek salad was awesome as usual! - My friends had good meals - Our server was great (Deon?) - The vegetable pasta was horrible Just a word of advice - do not order the vegetable pasta. As I write this, I don't see it on the menu online.The red sauce tasted bitter and the only vegetable besides tomato was a bit of slimy spinach. It was horrible. They should consider including zucchini, mushrooms, yellow or orange peppers, etc. It would probably be best if they cooked them on the side and added them to the sauce just before plating. This way they would keep their structure. I still don't get how they screwed up the tomato sauce. They should try eating what they are serving. YUCK! read more

We stopped at this place for lunch since we were shopping at the local Tanger Outlets and it seemed to have kid friendly and vegetarian friendly options. We started with the hush puppies as an appetizer. They were piled high but a little on the sweet side for me. I know some like it that way but I'm just not a big fan. For the entrees we had a kids make your own pizza, which was similar to the experience UNO's and others put on kids menus. This restaurant however let you add as many toppings as you'd like. Huge plus! We managed to sneak some vegetables on the kids pizza in the name of creativity without too much of a fuss. We also ordered a Philly cheesesteak that was made onions and bell peppers. The bread was very good but the amount of salt that went into it was a bit much. It also came with a side of fries and a pickle both of which you can't go wrong with. The other entree was a salad. It was large in portion with what seemed to be fresh vegetables as they were very crisp. The restaurant was overall good as was the staff. Nothing that I would go out of my way to visit but an enjoyable place to take your family. read more

Came in for a late Lunch while shopping at Tanger. Seated in a decent time. The food was priced right. Got the poke ahi tuna...very good. The hush puppies is to try for... serving are decent. I've been here twice now and absolutely loved it. I tried the shrimp salad sandwich on a croissant and it was pretty good. I had never had shrimp salad before and I'm not sure it is my thing, but I still enjoyed it. I also had a cup of she crab soup which was delicious. My parents were with me and my mom had a shrimp salad (I believe Jack Shake shrimp salad or something like that) and my dad had fried shrimp. They both said their meals were delicious. I then went again with my dad and I had the fish tacos while he had the shrimp scampi flat bread. Both were delicious. I only had one of the tacos and was incredibly full. The fish wasn't soggy at all, it was breaded perfectly and just absolutely delicious. The staff was fairly friendly and our servers both times were nice. The second time we went our server got a little busy and disappeared for the second half of the meal. Luckily we were able to flag down other employees to help us with boxes and our check. Still overall it was a good experience. I would definitely recommend and I will definitely be back. read more
