We used to be semi-regular customers here at Salvatore Ruffino's but after this experience, we're DONE. This evening, I called to place an order and explained my request clearly from their own menu. The staff member then put me on hold and, not realizing I could hear, told someone else he couldn't understand me. When I asked what part wasn't clear, his response was, "Don't you think you have an accent?" The irony is he had no problem at all understanding me when it came time to take down my credit card details. On top of that, he wasn't even familiar with their own flyer they had mailed out themselves, which made the whole interaction even more frustrating. I have lived in the United States for close to 30 years, and I speak clear English. It may not have been the language I was born with, but it is the language I use at home, at work, and everywhere else. In fact, I can't remember the last time anybody complained -- it has been decades. I know the difference between me not being clear and someone simply having a problem with people who speak with accents. This is unacceptable behavior anywhere, but especially in a diverse community like Lehigh County where people of many backgrounds live and work. If you cannot respect or understand customers, then you should have trained staff who can take phone orders without mocking them. To be treated with such disrespect and then hung up on after I canceled my order was offensive and unprofessional. We will never return and will share this experience so others know how this business treats people. I hope they straighten their ways to gain trust again. read more

Chicken parmesan and spaghetti with housemade tomato sauce and salad with housemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing is pretty good. This is a cafeteria, so you place order and pay at counter, then wait while they prepare order. Restaurant is clean and has nice atmosphere. read more

Pizza is ok. But whatever you do, do NOT order the chicken parm hoagie. Instead of a breaded chicken breast, or even strips, you get a hoagie with cut up bites of rubbery flavorless chicken. They throw the leftovers on a soggy roll with flavorless sauce. A gas station sandwich would be better than this. read more

I have been going to Salvatore Ruffinos for some years I was a customer when he was in the same lot as layfette bank across the street from his store and now he's been at his now location love the food always fresh it never taste old or like leftovers it taste great. If you need some great food and pizza or the cheesesteak try Ruffino's very good you won't be disappointed. read more

Absolutely the pizza around. On Friday's they make grandmas pizza which I think is the best in the Valley. If you have not eaten here u need to. The bad reviews are all stupid. People make mistakes once in a while but that does not deserve a bad review. What matters is that food is awesome. read more

I had their pizza awhile back. Not bad, but dripping with oil. But I'm writing this review now not about the mediocre pizza, but due to the crude, abusive staff member (perhaps the owner) who I encountered this weekend. I parked on the street in front of the place for the World of Food Festival taking place on 19th St. This guy comes out cursing, telling me I couldn't park there, and he was calling the police. When I returned to my car a short time later there was a slice of cucumber sitting on my windshield. I guess I should be glad my car wasn't keyed. I can only suggest that if you want excellent pizza, go a few blocks away to NY Stromboli Pizza at 17th and Liberty. Plenty of parking, and no foul mouthed, rude staff to put up with. I can only guess the guy was pissed off since there were many great food vendors at the festival, and few people were eating his mediocre pizza that day. read more

I really believe that the one star review below must have been from their previous location. The owners went back to basics and reopened their original pizza shop. It is bright and clean with consistently good food. This is the best pizza in Allentown. I recommend the Sicilian, but their regular pies are great too. The pizza at this local pizzeria is phenomenal. I haven't had better pizza in the valley. The sauce is tangy, the cheese is perfect and the crust is the best I've ever tasted. Also, the wings here were a pleasant surprise. I am used to wings being just ok from places that don't advertise as wing joints but the wings here are very tasty! I have never been let down by the pizza and subs. We tried something different tonight - chicken piccata- what a mistake. Both chicken breasts were unseasoned, plain, with the consistency of having been microwaved. The spaghetti had no sauce on it (not even olive oil) and albeit fresh, tasted as though it was taken from the water and plopped on the plate. There were a few capers and minuscule sautéed greens on the chicken, lending no flavor. I am upset that I was served and paid for something so uncharacteristic of this place. I am extremely let down, having been a huge advocate of Ruffino's for many years to newcomers in the area, and never having a bad meal here. Salvatore's is the best pizza in Allentown, and it has been for the over forty years that I've been eating there. There was that rough patch a while ago when they moved across the street and tried to be a fancy Italian restaurant, but they are back in their original location, and they are still serving the perfect pizza. I'm sure the toppings are good, but I never get them. If pizza is good, it doesn't need anything on it. I go there several times a month, as I have since the 1970s and will continue to do for many decades to come. read more

Went there for dinner with my daughter tonight. Very disappointed. Had a cheesesteak, felt like I was eating all roll. My fries I ordered well done & they were not done the way I ask, not even close. My daughter had a slice of pizza that the grease just dropped off, she also had the calamari. She said it was tough & not tasty at all. The restaurant itself had a terrible smell and was very dirty. I will not be returning here again. I will drive out to the place we usually go to on McCathur Road. A little further to drive but worth it. $28.00 & it was terrible read more

I have been coming to Salvatore Ruffino's Pizza for 25 years. I work all over the Lehigh Valley and this place has everybody else beat when it comes to your basic pizza pie. Honestly, it's better than the dozen or so places I've tried in Manhattan as well. So in 25 years I'll still be eating here because pizza is health food. read more

The was pizza pretty good.. But the wings were tiny and bony. I would usually not say anything, but after I ordered and paid, the pizza man told me that for 2 dollars more, I could have gotten twice the food (I had inquired about wing deals). I thought he should have said that initially when I asked him about the specials over the phone, especially since I ordered wings. So decent pizza, wings, not so good. I love their Pizza! We have ordered there since we were little kids (95/96?) Every Friday my parents would order pizza for dinner. I decided to do the same for my own kids last Sunday. I ordered what we always ordered as children a large Sicilian Pizza we watched Wrestlemania....it was great! Pizza was AWESOME!! It made me think back to my childhood. I decided that maybe we could start to make this a "Sunday pizza night thing" So I ordered the same thing w some toppings this time tonight. I am absolutely disappointed. The pizza was way over cooked the toppings were cold I ordered extra cheese hoping it would get all over the toppings. The pizza was dry and very over cooked. There were parts that were black on the bottom! I just think if its your reputation on the line and you by accident burned a pizza. Start over give me the customer a call and just say it will be s little longer! I rather wait a lil longer for my 23.00 pizza to be remade then have to not have dinner BC its so burned its hard to bite. Very disappointed :/ read more

OMG! Got a Cheese Steak the other day and it was the best I have had in a long time. Cheese melted all through. ...just enough sauce for great taste, but not too much that the sandwich was soggy...just right! Also ...and yes I am going there...it wasn't greasy. Their pizza tastes like cardboard--Tasteless and skimpy on the sauce and cheese. I thought I would give the place a try again after they moved back to their old location, but definitely not worth it. The service is also terrible. I am always made to feel like I am more of a bother than an appreciated customer. Some things never change. First off, this listing really needs to be updated now that they're back at the old location (a hole in the wall across the street). I always avoided the larger location across 19th St. I would have given it a bad review. But I'm happier than ever that they're back to focusing on what they're good at - pizza. They have the best pizza in the Lehigh Valley, hands down. It's good enough to warrant the icy service. We get delivery from this place about every other week. We have never had pasta or dinner entrees but their cheese steaks, cheese burger subs, and pizza never ever disappoint. The guys working the register and making the pizza are never very nice when you visit the store in person, but their delivery people are always fast and friendly. read more

I was raised locally and drove past this place after 20 years since the incident, which I will never forget. I ordered a slice and asked them to put garlic on it - I saw a jar of cut up garlic sitting there in the background. The guy said "it won't taste right" and literally would not sell me a garlic slice. The whole point of even going in there was because I had a massive sore throat and wanted to eat some garlic. Salvatore's Pizza - We're not in Manhattan anymore Toto! I previously gave an outstanding review to this establishment for a dinner from this pizza place in the West End Theater District of Allentown. Unfortunately, one excellent meal does not signal a high-standard across the menu. Tonight, I decided to order a pizza from Salvatore's based on reviews I read, including from former New Yorkers, praising the establishment's pies as the best they'd eaten since leaving the Big Apple. Having spent 15 of my younger years eating pizza from Manhattan pizza joints on a weekly basis, I was salivating in anticipation. It was a long 40 minutes waiting for the delivery. I opened the box to reveal a Neapolitan pepperoni pie that still showed a bubbly cheese and pepperoni topping. In my early adult years I spent 30 months stationed in Europe as a young U.S. Army soldier. Hence, I have a fairly wide pizza-eating experience having eaten pies in many U.S. and European cities. While in Europe I learned to eat pizza with a knife and fork - a habit that has remained with me to this day. Sometimes the utensils were plastic, but still the pies were tender enough to cut with a plastic knife and pierce with a fork. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case with this pizza. Although I initially used a serrated steak knife, I mightily struggled to cut some of the toughest pizza crust I've ever encountered. Chewing each bite tested my jaw strength. After about the fourth bite, I began to examine the underside of the pizza. Much of it was blackened which, to me as a veteran cook for more than half a century, mean the pie wasn't made fresh but reheated. Undaunted and still being hungry and craving pizza, I accepted the challenge and started a second piece. Realizing the piece was now cold, I tried to circumvent the toughness by heating if for half-a-minute in the microwave and switching to a serrated chef's knife. Almost the same result. The added serrations from the chef's knife slightly improved the ability to cut the pizza slice into edible-sized bites, but it was still rather like chewing whale blubber - singularly tough and tasteless. After two slices, I could take no more and resigned myself to having had enough pizza for awhile. I then deliberated. Should I repackage the remaining slices and reheat them on another day? I'm retired and live on a limited fixed monthly income so frugality is a factor in purchasing little luxury items like restaurant-food deliveries. I returned to my kitchen, opened the pizza box and my decision was made. I'm too old to endure such struggles in order to assuage my self-imposed budget limitations. I folded the pizza box and its contents and consigned it to the garbage chute in my senior complex. I shall continue my ongoing search for quality pizza in my retirement home town. Unfortunately, I've found that good food at reasonable prices seems remarkably hard to find once a person heads west across the Delaware River. Sigh. read more

I've onlly been a customer at Salvatore's foe about 45 years, but I've been consistently pleased by several generations of the family since I was in Junior Hgh School (before they invented Middle Schools). As a former award-winning Chef, !"I learned that, indeed, you don't have to kiss customer's butts IF you can prepare really good food. I have NEVER been disappointed by their pizza for all of these years. I remember back in the 60's, if you';d go in around 10p.m., the pariarch of the family would say "Hry, you want this pizza for half-price? Somebody ordered it, and never showed up to pick it up!"More than once, I was pleased to "help him out"!. I REALLY love their Sicilian Pizza. I believe that it is the best (consistently) that I've had ANYWHERE I've been. Keep in mind that I've never been to Sicily...but I DO feel fortunate to live so close to Salvatore's!. I've noticed that several people have sniveled about the current owner's serious attitude as he keeps plugging along, paying attention to the necessary details concerning proper food preperation, AND making sure that the food comes out in a timely manner. My additive is, if you wish to go visit someone, and you want to monopolize their time, try visiting Cecdarbrookj. . People aren't trying to run a business there. read more
