Outstanding restaurant, miss it already! Very clean, and very friendly atmosphere, with delicious food (ordered the stone bowl, bibimbap). Really excellent food! I tried as much as I could, and literally everything was perfect. The Bibimbap was cooked perfectly and looked EXACTLY like the one in the photo. The short ribs were perfectly cooked and the meat wasn't chewy. The dumplings were fried to perfection, and the sushi was on par with any Japanese restaurant I've been to in the area. It was the first time for five of us at Sam Oh Jung and we craved authentic Korean food. So, we ordered the Bul Go Ki combo box but asked for a spicy version of the beef. We were not disappointed. The marinated slices of beef were thin, moist and tasty. It went so well with the lightly pickled daikon, bean sprouts and cucumber. We asked for spicy sauce to dip the fair-sized dumplings/mandu. The box also came with fried/steamed rice and 3-4 slices of orange. Service was very attentive. We will be back! read more

I don't care for the sushi; I've had much better in the area (go to Hideko in Palmetto, about 15 minutes North). But, I have enjoyed their Chinese options. I've tried just one Korean dish and was disappointed. So if you're in the mood for Chinese, this is a decent option, superior to many of the cheap-o places in the area. They make their own sauces and clearly hand bread their chicken in dishes such as sweet & sour. No frozen, uniform, extra breaded crap here. I can recommend the ginger salad due to a yummy dressing ( the salad itself is just iceberg lettuce and carrots). Egg rolls, sweet & sour chicken, combination fried rice, and gyoza are all recommended. read more

I've been going to Sam Oh Jung for the past 15 years and this is certainly my go to Sushi place, for the family as well. The most striking aspect of SOJ is the staff, they are truly warm and friendly. The Sushi is always fresh and nicely presented. Having Korean food is a nice plus when you're in the mood for a nice bowl of Dolsot BiBimBap. Better than what I've had in Bigger cities. Don't let the appearance fool you, the food is way better than the location and decor would suggest. Since my original post, I've been there maybe an additional 15 times. As above, the decor is not its strength, but Yup, his lovely wife, family and staff are the strength. Great place and great people. read more

I love being able to get high quality Korean food down here in Manatee County. While the prices are standard outside-of-Korea expensive, the mains are worth it if you're craving legit eats. The jjambbong was easily big enough for two people and while the kimchi jjigae wasn't nearly as large, it had very nice flavors. They also do nice sushi. Fermented side dishes are also flavorful. read more

The hospitality was great but the food was subpar.i ordered chiken teriyaki and it was dry and the sauce was bitter.

I' ve been frequenting the SUSHI place near my home in Bayshore Gardens since 2007. For the longest time, i did not know the name of the place, just knowing it was the "SUSHI" sign place next to publix in the bayshore gardens shopping center. al that being said, I have always, and always will be a fan of the "Buccaneer" Rolll here. im not sure whats in it, or how its made, but the presentation kicks ass, and it tastes like a party in my mouth each and every bite, every time. very consistent. the warm saki is also reccomended by me. good day to you, thanks for reading, read more

Order took 2.5 hours to be cooked and delivered 2 miles way. The food containers arrived sitting in a puddle of sauce at the bottom of the bag. I didn't get soy sauce for my rice. The food was mediocre, and in no way worth the high price. Stay away from the Chinese items. read more

We found this restaurant located conveniently for us not too far north of the Sarasota airport. As you drive to it, be aware that it is located inside of a strip mall, right next to a Publix. Above the shop front is not the name of the restaurant, but simply the word SUSHI. And, indeed, the sushi seems to be one of the things that they do particularly well, at least so far as we tasted it. We shared one caterpillar roll, which disappeared in a moment, and was very good. Then came three Korean dishes: Galbi, Bulgogi, and Yoo Gae Jang. The first was excellent, the third good, and the bulgogi bad. The dishes are not inexpensive ($17-20), but this should be made up for by the side dishes. Not in this case, however. There were four, all unimpressive. The interior is similarly unimpressive: no fish in the fish tank when we visited, a dark interior, that does not feel romantic in any way, and in general, a rather low-rent feel to the place. I will gladly take low-rent feel in exchange for excellent food, but my view of this place is that you have to tread carefully. From what we tasted, stick to the galbi and sushi. I would give the place 3 1/2 stars if I could: I would go back, but not with a great deal of enthusiasm. read more

This is my family's favorite sushi place. It's actually a Korean restaurant that serves various Asian cuisines. I've tried some of their dishes, but I always come back to the sushi, which is the best I've tasted outside of Japan or Hawaii. The service can be a little slow and aloof, but not rude. I have traveled to Sam Oh Jung from my home in North Port about six times. I have never had a bad meal as a matter of fact the meals I have had were the best. This includes everything from japanese to Korean. My last visit was for my birtjhday and the server/owner suggested a special soup that was not on the menu but rather something that is made daily for employees. Well I ordered it and from that day forward I will never order anything but this soup. I wish I could spell the name but if you ask for "Jumpbo" I am sure the server will know what you mean. This review is for their Korean dish only. Let me start by saying I lived in DC area for 20 plus years and spoiled with many Korean options in Annandale and Centerville areas. I LOVE KOREAN FOOD! We just recently moved to the area and I was dying to try my Korean options here. Sushi-Sam Oh Jung is nearest from home so I went here first. I ordered Beef Bulgogi and Kimchi Jjigae, to say the least I was very disappointed. When I think of Beef Bulgogi I think of sweet, garlic, and soy sauce flavors also some time added peppery, sesame, and onion flavors as well, if this is your description of Beef Bulgogi this is not a place for you. In addition Kimchi Jjigae is a stew, at very best I would classify what they serve as Kimchi Guk, I hope you know the difference between Jjigae and Guk, but they do not. On plus side their service was good and décor was above average for Asian restaurant. read more
