My family comes here all the time ! It has been here in bayside for over 15 years and we have always been loyal to this place. The service here is always very friendly and they always greet you with a warm hello. We typically get the jjajangmyun, jjambbong, and the tangsooyook. Its essentially, black bean noodles, spicy seafood noodles, and fried pork in sweet/sour sauce. They give you sides of kimchi and yellow radish. Reviewers that gave 1-2 stars obviously don't know what they are talking about. Sam Won Gahk, hands down, is the best Korean-Chinese restaurant in Queens in terms of taste, price, and quality. The service that you receive can be biased due to rush hours, busy days and menu errors, but their services should not blind the fact that Sam Won Gahk's food is consistently great. For inexperienced Americans, Korean-Chinese restaurant is judged based solely on three dishes: Ja Jang Myun (Brown Sauce Noodle), Jjam Ppong (Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup) and Tang Su Yuk (Sweet Sour viscous sauce with fried pork). Don't order stuff like lunch box or American-Chinese food: chicken with broccoli, general tso's chicken, fried rice at a Korean-Chinese restaurant. That's like ordering french fries at a Chinese restaurant. I have tasted hundreds of Tang Su Yuk in my life from Korea, China and New York. Bayside's Sam Won Gahk makes the best Tang Su Yuk. Any experts will agree with me. Their Brown Sauce Noodle is on my top 5 list, but Tang Su Yuk is superb. I also recommend fried dumplings. If you know your dumpling, you will enjoy the nuance of its taste. It is crisply fried on the outside, semi-dried and oil-less in the inside. Don't let bad reviews deter you from going here. This place is ok. Came here on a recommendation by friends . The noodles with the special sauce wasn't bad. Portions was huge for one person and we also order noodle with seafood. That want that great. I expected it to be spicier, it was very bland. We ordered a seafood fried rice and they gave us a shrimp fried rice. A little disappointing. But my nephews love the fried rice. A while back I dined in and ordered shrimp fried rice. It tasted stale and dry and I believe they just reheated someone's leftovers. We complained to the owner and they didn't deny giving me old food and asked if I wanted anything else. Heck no. I couldn't believe it. My wife decided to give them another chance yesterday for take out (without me knowing, of course). And incredibly, not only was the shrimp fried rice stale (again!), but the chajang myun tasted old and the jjam bbong smelled like seafood gone bad. This is the LAST TIME I'm going there. The decor is beautiful. The staff is quick, efficient, and friendly. However the food is bland. I was very disappointed. I ordered the Spicy Fried Chicken and Garlic and Pepper Sauce. The owner here ran the original Sam Won Gahk in Elmhurst back in the 90s. This Bayside location has been opened for quite some time now and is due for an interior remodeling. The food may need some revamping too. I had the jjajangmyun on my most recent trip and the sauce recipe was clearly off that day. It was edible but not enjoyable. This is not my go-to spot for Korean-Chinese cuisine but my third/fourth string option because of the fact that it has a decent sized parking lot in the back, smaller dining crowd, and is close to my house. read more

If you plan to eat here, plan to eat a lot! We ordered the fried dumplings, Mandarin Beef, and noodles. The fried dumplings were huge and good. The Mandarin Beef was really amazing - and there was so much we could not possibly eat it all. We asked what was in the noodles, and they said vegetables and noodles. Anytime I'm in flushing, I basically try to eat here because they are known for their Chang-Chang-Myun (black bean noodle or a.k.a my fav dish of all time). I constantly crave this dish and they make it well here. This is a Korean style Chinese restuarant as the review b4 mine states so they may list recognizable chinese dishes but don't expect it to be like the ghetto chinese food u get around the corner...it's def different and I'm not sure in a good way. But basically all the Korean people who come here, just come for either the Chaang-Chang-Myun or the Jam pong (Very spicy seafood noodle soup which is also good). Me and my family acutally eat at the restaurant AND order takeout for later since I don't live near..hahaha. The Sweet & sour shrimp (Kang-poo-sae-woo) is also very good. The menu may seem overwhelming to someone who is not familiar with the cuisine. However, the food here is fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend the prawns in chili sauce, Garlic and pepper fried chicken (like a lighter general tsos but with a great spicy garlic sauce), and the lo mein is fantastic. This place has seriously gone down hill; Or maybe my eyes just opened up as i got older. I use to eat here a lot with my family growing up. My dad is even friends with the owner. However, coming back to this place after about a few years, I've realized that this place is really... just bad... I came here to eat with my best friend and her grandma and my visit here was just bad. The jjajangmyun was ok but the jjampong and almost every other dish on the menu was terrible. My friend ordered the jjampong and the grease was just layered on top of the actual soup. The "whole shrimp" that came with it too... it turned out to be just the head of the shrimp! My friend's grandma also ordered the japchaebap and, being the sweet korean grandma she is, was given the most bitchiest look by a waitress when she told her that it's been a while since she has eaten here and is happy to have come back to try the food. Seriously lady, i know you've had a long day but no need for the glare? (Also, the japchaebap was pretty much just leftover gochujapchae with noodles.) In addition, the place is seriously dirty. The window seats are known to have a lot of roaches. My friend found a dead fly in the soy sauce and a hot pepper flake stuck to her fork. Though, despite the bad experience, there are a few old time waitresses that are as nice as ever and put a smile on their face despite the hectic hours.
