Came here for dinner. The ambiance is good and enjoyable. The service is attentive and pay attention to your need. The food comes out pretty quickly i'd say within 10-15 minutes on a busy night. The dishes were all well cooked, seasoned well, and fresh. But, the food can be quite greasy. It's like they pour tons of oil into the dish and serve to you. i'd suggest to filter most of the oil before serving to the customer. No kidding, pls look at my pictures, can see the oil at every dish. I'd suggest if the restaurant wants to improve quality, then it should filter most of the oil before serving to the customer. My two cents...

黑商 They are out here to get to scam money. Tried to give us extra dishes. And when they gave the wrong one near the END of our meal we said we didn't need it anymore. They proceed to make it again to add it at the very end. And just said "ohhhh sorry I didn't hear u". Really tried to give us extra dishes. We saw u mess up two years ago when u overbooked your takeout orders and dine in. We also personally experienced when you didn't wash your bowl and my grandma drank from your bowl with LIPSTICK STAINS on it. I don't know about others but clearly there's something wrong with your business to be letting all these mishaps happen and continue to fuck your way around with customers. Clearly you have absolutely no respect for your customers and forgive me for being harsh but you deserve no business and I pray for your timely bankruptcy. * Sorry for the rant, got REALLY triggered by their business methods

Solid 3, maybe 3.5 Stars for this visit. After reading some horrific reviews (mostly for takeout), I was hesitant to come to this restaurant. But someone invited us, so it wasn't my choice. lol For our first visit, there was 5 of us dining. Service was very good; food was ok. Maybe it was what we ordered; so I would definitely be willing to come back to try some of their other menu items. What I liked about this restaurant was that it was very low-keyed; not like the crazy busy and loud restaurants in Flushing. Our menu choices: - Tofu w.snow pea pods & mushroom: the waiter suggested we order this so we said ok. Not sure why this was recommended, since it was kind of boring and bland. (And expensive at $20.95!) - Snow pea shoots with preserved egg: this dish was ok; pretty standard; not really bursting with flavor though. - Whole Crispy Garlic Chicken: this was pretty good. A wedge of lemon would have made a world of difference. In hindsight, we should have requested some lemon. - Cumin Lamb Chops (6pcs): These were pretty good but would have been great if the meat were more seared to bring out the flavors. Also, the cumin flavors were super mild; bolder flavors and a good sear would have made this an outstanding dish. - Crispy Fried Flounder: hands down this was the fave dish of the night! Great flavor and nicely crispy without being overcooked Outstanding dish! Like I said, I would be willing to revisit this restaurant the next time we're looking for a Cantonese restaurant outside of Flushing. Maybe next time it will be worthy of 4 Stars!

Great Cantonese food. It's great to see many of the staffers here from the old Tung Yi Fung that used to be on 37th Ave in Flushing. I'm not 100% sure why the old stalwart closed down but given the pressures of COVID and the expansive footprint of the old restaurant, it just wasn't sustainable in the current climate of the pandemic. Happy Garden has far less sit down tables but the food actually is better seasoned then it ever was before. All my Cantonese favorites, as they were before, the salt and pepper & Peking pork chops, fried flounder, casseroles, and noodles. The one exception is the T-Bone steak which is quite frankly the wrong item to order in a Cantonese restaurant. The prices may be higher that your local generic Chinese takeout joint so if that's what your looking for, you should stay away. Happy Garden is definitely part of my new rotation of eats going forward. If there is one con, and I can see how it could be a huge detriment, it is the fact that the wait time for food can be maddening. With a smaller restaurant, I'm sure the kitchen is probably appropriately sized as well. There have been a few times when the wait has been tough but hey, it's 2021-2022 and we're still in a pandemic, load up on some patience before visiting if you want something tasty.

4 stars not for the dim sum, but for the stir fry dishes from the kitchen. Honestly, management was up front and told us the dim sum is not very good at the moment. They are transitioning to a new dim sum vendor and we should taste improvement in another week of this posting. The dim sum was pretty bland and can only be salvaged with heaps of hot sauce to masquerade or better impart some flavor. There is no cart service for dim sum since there is limited room between table spacing. The stir fry dishes from the kitchen were excellent though. The "Wok Hei" or better known as the "The Breath of the Wok" was plentiful as the satay beef vermicelli casserole and chicken haw fun was savory and delicious. The smokiness of the wok made it's way to the seared chicken and haw fun, a beautiful sight for the eyes, olfactory senses and palate. There are two private party rooms available. One room has one table and seats 14. The other room has two tables and looks like it can seat up to 25 people. Hopefully, the dim sum evolves and gets better with the new dim sun vendor. I'm looking forward to try the "newly improved" dim sum real soon.

If you were familiar with Good Kitchen Seafood Restaurant (or Tung Yi Fung) in Flushing, then you would enjoy Happy Garden Bayside. There are some familiar faces here, too. I have not tried the dim sum yet, but heard that there isn't as much variety as you would expect. I stopped in for dinner on a weeknight and was not disappointed. Great portion sizes and everything was tasty and well seasoned. We ordered the Sizzling Pepper Steak, Seafood Tofu Casserole and the Cantonese Ginger Scallion Lobster. I would definitely go back for dinner to try some of my old TYF favorites and the dim sum.

    Pan-Fried Flounder after being deboned

My parents like to go here to sit down to eat which is a sign that the food is good. I've gotten takeout and have sat down and will attest that the food when dining in is infinitely better than getting takeout. Anything fried or sautéed will end up soggy by the time you get back home to eat it. Pan-Fried Flounder was fried well and you're able to eat all the bones except for some of the inner bones which they take out. Would stick with getting lobsters by themselves or over noodles as the sticky rice version had the lobsters over cooked and stuck to the shells. I can confirm the service is not the greatest as you have to not only flag down a waiter to do anything (order/get refills on tea/get the check) or else they will completely ignore your table. And even if you were to wave at a waiter down you have to be assertive enough while doing it or they will still ignore you. One night was particularly busy and we asked to disregard a twin lobster over noodles dish that we had ordered so we could leave as we had already been waiting on it for 20ish minutes after all the other dishes that came out earlier had been finished. The waiter said to just wait a little bit and it would come out. So we waited for another 15 minutes and again asked for the check and got the same response. So stupidly we waited longer to be nice as we assumed maybe they had already started making it and when nothing came we had enough and told him to get check which he brought it, still had the item that never came as part of the bill. Would recommend going if you're desperate for good Cantonese food but be warned to not expect good service. If it's a near a holiday would recommend getting a reservation or they'll turn you away or have you wait for at least an hour.

Even though I saw 2 1/2 stars for Happy Garden, I've been in this game long enough to know that if you're savvy in doing your research, you can still find good restaurants despite the questionable rating. This is why I decided to give Happy Garden a try. For all you Yelpers, be discerning and examine where all these 1 star reviews are coming from, which explains everything. Happy Garden is conveniently located on a busy part of Bell Boulevard with a plethora of restaurant choices. It's one of the very few genuine Cantonese restaurants in the area with a full menu of Cantonese specialty items. Judging from what I saw on the menu, it's a great option for a full Cantonese dinner. We went on a Saturday afternoon. The waiters greeted us and we were quickly seated. What caught my eye immediately were the Cantonese specialty dishes which were pictured on one side of the dining room wall. These dishes were mainly seafood, yet the prices seemed very reasonable. The dining room itself was very bright, with white textured walls. I loved the instant energy it seemed to give the room. The menu is a two-sided card with section divided into the usual seafood, soup, pork, chicken and beef sections. What caught our eye especially, were two sections. A Jiangnan Style Special section of the menu, and a "Three Dishes with Soup" section where you could order three family-style entrees with white rice for $41.95. Because I usually have difficulty settling on one or two entrees, I thought $42 was a decent price for a variety of dishes. Jiangnan will have to wait. For appetizers, we ordered the soup dumplings. They also gave us bowls of hot and sour soup. The three mains were a chicken salted fish and tofu casserole, salt pepper pork and salt pepper squid. We also wanted to try a noodle dish and ordered a pan fried Cantonese mei fun. Every dish we got was standard good Cantonese fare. The mei fun was chock full of a variety of meats. Surprisingly, the one dish that wasn't Cantonese, the soup dumplings, was surprisingly good. There's only 5 to an order, but I could tell that they were made from scratch. Overall, I liked our first experience at Happy Garden. The prices weren't in the high 20's which many Cantonese places are these days. There should always be a mid-tier Cantonese option in my book and to me, this is the place.

Services was unacceptable we came in for lunch after party of five and was the first customers. After ordering a family came in and they received food before our appetizers came out. The service was poor and the price didn't match the quality of food. We will not come back with all the other options in our neighborhood.
