The Seosomun (rice wine) was SO good-- had this rich creaminess that I didn't expect and the toasted rice flavor came through nicely. The Aewol (rice wine infused with orange flavor) was also very nice and came in this adorable little bottle but we both preferred the Seosomun a bit more. Banchan was alright; my favorite was the kimchi. Both the raw marinated crab and shrimp were yummy; we actually preferred the shrimp to our surprise. Octopus was good, had a nice flavor. Bulgogi was alright but not that different from any other bulgogi I've tried. It's extremely crowded and chaotic inside, with next to no seating for waiting (a 2 person bench). It's also not a large restaurant, seating only about 50 people at most, even with the upstairs balcony. Servers were also dressed nondescriptly (mostly casual black shirt and sweatpants with no restaurant insignia) and not matching each other, meaning it wasn't easy to figure out who worked there, especially since there were lots of customers standing to wait and get seated or entering. We made a reservation (highly recommended) and still waited for about 10min despite arriving on time. That being said, service was efficient and helpful, though not exactly friendly. The interior isn't large nor classy, but they did have a second floor for more seating (bathrooms located on the first floor). We ordered drinks (a soymilk concoction and soju); the soymilk cocktail was saccharine and smooth, almost to the point of being a dessert drink. I think due to the price tag and size ($16 for a small glass), I'd probably pass on it next time, despite its tastiness. They're known for their bulgogi (bbq beef) here and it's easy to see why. The staff cook it for you with noodles and eggs (highly recommended to order rice with it), and it was absolutely scrumptious. It's savory and slightly sweet, and it's even worth saving the sauce/broth to put over rice if you take home leftovers. The crispy pancakes were also tasty and though it wasn't my palate choice, the raw marinated crab was delicate and soft (use the provided gloves to eat it). Dessert was the iced persimmon - again, while I'm not a big fan of persimmon, it was a nice, healthy way to finish the meal, and was affordable ($6 for a decent sized portion). Overall favorite was the dongchimi cold noodles: simple and refreshing, the rich aroma of sesame oil providing roundedness without being overpowering. The place itself was much bigger than I expected - they have an upstairs space that I was not expecting. We were seated immediately when we arrived and gestured to the seating upstairs. We ordered the signature Seoul bulgogi (the smallest portion) and we're very happy with the different sides (3 different kimchis, ssam ingredients), fried fish, and bulgogi dish overall (we loved how the noodles soaked up all the bulgogi marinade flavor). Very fair portion and our first time eating bulgogi this way. We tried the cold kimchi noodles which had a nice chewy texture, very refreshing and not spicy at all. We also ordered the pajeon which was good but nothing special- same standard pajeon you can get at any Korean bbq spot. It's basically a kimchi pork fried rice, more wet and saucy than the usual Korean spots Bulgogi: this is supposed to be their specialty, but I thought it was just average. Staff will cook this at the table for you so there's no need to monitor it, and they'll let you know when it's ready to be eaten. Quite literally one of the best meals I've had by Koreatown in a while. My friends were visiting from Philly and on their way to Spain in a few hours. Booked the mezzanine as other Yelpers said it was cozier but I should have trusted my initial instinct and thermodynamics. So excited to try this place! I always pass by this restaurant when I walk to Penn Station and finally got to go inside haha. We came at 6pm on a Wednesday and the restaurant was only about half full. I had made a reservation but didn't really need to that early. I had made the reservation just the day before so it's super easy to grab a spot for 2. We ordered the bulgogi ($39 for 400g) and the crab ($31). The servers cooked the bulgogi in front of us, which took about 10 minutes? They came every 2 minutes or so to check in on it and informed us when the beef was ready to eat. They recommended eating it right away so that's what we did! The beef was tender and the combination with the enoki, cabbage, glass noodles, rice cakes, and eggs was great! I loved eating a little bit of everything. I will say that it was sweeter than I would have liked. As for the crab, it tasted super similar to the ganjang gejang I had in Seoul. Granted I don't eat this often but still, I enjoyed Samwoojung's crab and would come back just to satisfy that craving. Again, the crab sauce is also quite sweet. The waiters provided gloves for us to eat the crab and also suggested we pair it with the lettuce and ssamjang but we just didn't bother with how flavorful the crab was haha. They are always busy but if you are a solo or duo dinner you should be able to get in quickly. Despite the staff busily moving around the tight space at lightning speeds every person I talked to was considerate of my needs and respectful. One of the staff was even asking about my photography and we talked about how much I love boba tea. I had always been curious about marinated crab, so I finally decided to give it a try. However, I discovered that raw crab wasn't quite to my liking. This was the only entree I got so I powered through squeezing every bit of crab out and mixing it with my rice and side dishes even though I was still full from lunch. Thankfully, the meal included some familiar side dishes, along with a delightful addition of fried fish, which I thoroughly enjoyed.To complement my meal, I opted for a refreshing highball drink, which added a light and enjoyable touch to the dining experience. I got the persimmon dessert which was a literal frozen persimmon - I personally prefer mine juicy and room temp. Service is decent and they cook the meat for you so no need to mix anything up. Came here during lunch time, it was not as busy as most restaurants in K-town. We did appreciate they located closer to Penn station instead of center of ktown. No wait maybe they are still new to the area? Place looks clean including restroom, at least you do not need to be nervous your door won't close while you are using restroom like many places at Ktown. Service was very good, as they cooked the bulgogi dish for you, and they constantly coming in to check in with us for our needs. We ordered the smallest size bulgogi, and a soup, portion is pretty big for two people, we barely able to have rice. We were not able to finish them. Bulgogi was pretty good, not over sweet as usual ktown restaurant, best to eat with their sauce and wrapped with veggies they gave you. Soup was recommended by our server, meat was well cook, so tender!!! Will definitely order this soup again. Side dishes are so yummy! We had to pack them to go!! Kimchi was extremely spicy but you will not stop eating. Overall this is a very decent restaurant but you do need to have more people to share more dishes, so you can enjoy everything without feeling extremely full. I remember seeing posts about this place when it first opened. My friend also went multiple times and recommended it. The simmering bulgogi in broth is a unique offering that has its place in the food scene here. However, I think the idea of it is better than the actual execution (disregarding what is considered authentic or not). It tasted mediocre and didn't give warm vibes. Service was a bit weird inside too. I had a reservation for Saturday at noon. Even by the time I left at 1ish, the restaurant was not full. I think that's a problem considering how the bulgogi is supposed to be a hearty warm dish perfect for when it's 25 degrees out. The lack of customers also made it feel weird how much attention I was getting from servers. I wish they'd be busy with their own thing instead. They serve barley tea to everyone. They prefill jars from a larger dispenser. I don't like how tea in the jar gets cold when the dispenser is meant to keep things hot/warm. Also it's lame how the jar only serves ~5 cups. The server kept on needing to swap out my jars because my table of 3 easily drank through one. Also I see how the jars have different colors which means the barley tea has different concentrations too. Well I'd like a hotter and more concentrated one.... Bulgogi - My table of 3 shared a small one because the friend who's been here before keeps insisting it's a lot of food and we can't finish a medium....I shouldn't really have listened to her. It's really not that much meat after getting cooked down. The server comes to cook the dish for you which I found a bit awkward just having someone stand around while you chat with friends. I can't tell if he purposely turned off the fire afterwards because we were eating too slowly or it's standard practice. I would prefer it more if there was a gentle simmer keeping the dish warm. I don't like the shape of the pot. Putting the cooked beef on the higher center can prevent it from being overcooked in the liquid, but that made it dry and cold. The perimeter where there's a trough for the fluids felt too deep for my purposes when picking out remaining bits of food at the bottom. Some people commented on the broth being too sweet. It was definitely sweet but not to a point where it bothers me. Also I don't get why they need to provide a separate spoon for eating the egg cooked in the bulgogi pot. It's so extra. Kimchi mandoo - I didn't like the flavor of the insides. The dumplings themselves were too big and the flavoring inside wasn't flavorful. I'd prefer the mandoo from Okdongsik instead. It comes with some beef broth but I found it inconvenient to eat these dumplings while consuming the broth. We ended up not consuming most of it. Red shrimp pancake - I was debating between the red shrimp pancake or seafood pancake. My friend said she's had the seafood one already before, so we ordered the red shrimp pancake. This was the best part of the meal. The shrimp had a nice bounce and juiciness. The outside was crunchy without being too hard or dry or oily. The sauce it comes with was sweet with some umami. Banchan wasn't interesting. I didn't like most of them. The fish they gave was big but a bit fishy and dry. The lettuce meant for wrapping (that I ate separately without wrapping) was juicy and sweet at least. Sam Woo Jung is known for their bulgogi dish and it was possibly the best bulgogi i've ever had... Both the meat and the broth were so flavorful, and I love how they cook everything for you and tell you exactly when everything is ready. We got the smallest bulgogi for 2 girls and it was filling, we also got rice for ourselves and mixing the rice with the broth (and the egg yolk omg) was soooooo delicious. They also gave us ssam (lettuce wrap), so you have several ways to enjoy the meat. Service was great as well (and our server was hot so extra points). I'd never heard of this place until my friend mentioned it, and it's located outside the busy K-Town area. Everything we tried was fantastic! Although it's on the pricier side, it's definitely worth it. My favorite was the red paste pajeon, which was unlike any pajeon I've had before. The bulgogi was slightly sweeter than usual, and the drinks were absolutely delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. They assisted us with cooking and advised us not to rush our ordering since not everyone in our party had arrived yet. Love this place! They are known for their bulgogi and it's really good. The meat / sauce is definitely on the sweeter side but still flavorful. It comes on a grill that they cook for you and you order the meat by weight. We also got the kkadugi fried rice which was also very flavorful and it's a pretty decent portion size. The banchan they give also includes a fried fish which is always great. The inside is cute too and the service was quick and efficient. Definitely a solid Korean spot that has good food & decent prices so highly recommend! read more

Wow wow wow! Honestly was really impressed by this spot. The service was really great it felt like we were attended to or asked about if we wanted sides refills fairly often (not sure if this was because it is a small place). I came with a friend and we ordered the bulgogi and cold kimchi noodles to share. We left bellies full of yummy meat, noodles, and sides. The bulgogi had a nice sweetness without being overly sweet which I think is why they paired pretty well with the noodles being that they did have spice (but they weren't crazy spicy).
