Although the burger was very salty, and there wasn't a tomato on it, it was one of the best burgers I've ever had! The flavor was great, the patty wasn't dry, the bun was perfect and crunchy, but not charred or burnt, and I ate the whole thing ( which I usually don't do, because I get full very easily). The only problem I have with this restaurant is that they don't serve water! They serve sparkling water and a variety of sodas and alcoholic drinks. Hello - Goodbye! Note: this is a delayed review. I was excited to try Sammich, as I'd read some reviews about it (not enough), and it had been recommended to me by family. Plus, it can be tough to find a great sandwich place, and once I do, I usually end up a lifelong customer. Not so with Sammich, sadly. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich (it's been a while - can't recall the name), and, seeing extras listed on the board, asked for avocado on it. The woman ringing me up immediately snapped at me, demanding why I'd order that, followed by a tirade on how her staff works hard to make the sandwiches and that I should order as-is. I was so stunned, I went ahead and completed our transaction, though I should have turned on my heel and left. 1. avocado was listed as an extra up on your menu 2. ..I'm your paying customer 3. This isn't a Michelin starred restaurant where I would certainly hesitate to ask for an accommodation Outrageously rude staff aside, the sandwiches (one for me, one for my spouse) were as follows; Just the far side of mediocre. They were the slightest bit tasty, but so soggy (and neither contained slaw, or anything sauced), they ultimately fell to pieces as we tried to eat them. And the price was just shy of exorbitant. I've read that the staff member I met is no longer at this location, however, that other staff seem to have taken her place with regards to doling out sides of verbal abuse with their lackluster sandwiches. Outstanding. For starters, visiting from out of town, gotta say the people in Ashland are unusually nice. I was traveling with a tired a fussy 2 year old and 7 year old. I've been here twice now, both times were A-ok! I can see how this can be the hot spot for sandwiches, however I prefer more of a classic deli. I like my sandwiches to be piled with meat instead of veggies. When I take a bite, I prefer a softer style bread versus an armor-like hoagie. The sides are chips, potato salad, green salad, coleslaw, tomato soup and soup of the day. I personally only cared for the coleslaw, which isn't very filling. Would I eat here again? Needed a place to stop on the way to Washington from the Bay Area and found this place. A hole in the wall from the outside, when you walk in you can tell you are in good hands. We liked it so much we came twice. Quite possibly the best sandwich I have ever tasted was the special they had on offer that day - a Parmesan encrusted melted cheese sandwich with two types of cheese and balsamic grilled onions. My wife and I had sandwiches at Sammich for the first time. 5 rating is for the food and brewed ice tea and friendly service. I had the pastrami zombie. I thought I'd never have "Langer's" style pastrami without returning to MacArthur Park in LA. The pastrami is seasoned brisket honey sweet with burnt ends. Not like most deli pastrami, but way better. And they pile it on. Served with pickle, home made sauerkraut Swiss cheese , mustard on rye. My wife had a Chicago style cheese steak. Loads of seasoned thinly sliced roast beef, cheddar cheese grated lettuce and a jus on a baguette. More sandwich than we normally eat, but they were so good, none went to waste. Bottomless, freshly brewed ice tea served in mason jars was refreshing in the shaded outdoor patio restaurant. Bathroom located behind kitchen. I guess it's take out when it rains or snows. Love this place! On drive from the Northwest corner of Oregon to mid-CA, we LOVED our Sammiches!! Coleslaw was light well balanced. Pastrami was AMAZING. I got the Tré which was like an Italian sub with salami, mortadella, prosciutto, provolone, lettuce, onion, mayo, and mustard all on a baguette. It came with chips and a pickle on the side. The sandwich was very filling with lots of meaty flavors. They have outside seating available with lots of heaters to keep you warm in the chilly weather along with covering to shade you while you eat. While the food may taste great the service is not. Despite a described standard 15 minute wait it took 40 minutes after ordering to get our food. People in line ordering after me started getting their own food. When I went up to check on our order after 30 minutes I was told they were bagging it up now and would be just a sec. 10 minutes AFTER that and I finally got my food. I have only been here twice, and my man has taken me both times (he fricken loves this place). Because I'm boring, I always stick with what I know is good, and here I always get "Daburg" which is always amazing. Really great, juicy burg. Good sauce, too. I don't know what it even is, and I'm picky as hell about condiments, but its yummy. The people who work here are always friendly, and the service is quick. I enjoy the small shop they have, and the few outdoor seats they have when the weather is nice. The first time he took me here it was in the evening and it was dark and rainy, and we shared our soups and it was a good cozy atmosphere. So I dropped in today because I had that moment in the car where I was like "I need grilled cheese" in that heroin addict, insane way that only people who eat grilled cheese NOW AND THEN understand. But the best part was that I came in apologizing because it was 4.46 and I thought the place closed at 5. I've been in the restaurant industry and I hate it when some douche walks in at 14 minutes to close and we all have to start cooking again. So, I thanked them and said I hoped I wasn't in too late. The AWESOME chef then proceeded to give me a brilliant soliloquy about how this was not like other asshole restaurants in Ashland where they would flip me attitude for coming in late. In fact, I could come in at "5 seconds to six" and they would serve me with joy. Something about the way he said it made me think: "Damn. These people care." So that was amazing. Now I am at home eating the sandwich and I am in some sort of cheddar-and-swiss gasm. These fuckers know their shit. I wish there were more restaurant owners from Chicago in Ashland. These guys have great Midwestern attitude, make a killer sandwich, play fantastic music and have pictures of Mike Ditka all over the place. I love them already. I've decided to update that and write a review here as Sammich is one of my absolute favorite places to eat in Ashland, hands-down. The folks who work here take pride in what they do and work hard to serve quality sammiches that people will genuinely enjoy eating. They use quality ingredients, locally grown and made when possible, house cure and prepare their meats (which are also additive/nitrate/preservative free), and make up their own condiments and numerous side dishes. There is so much love and care put into every sammich and it's evident with every bite! I've been here many times. The staple menu items are delicious - my top favorites being the pastrami (Russian style), the turkey (on baguette not Italian loaf), and the albacore (with house -made giardiniera added!). So I have NEVER been a fan of whole cranberry sauce, EVER. Until TODAY! I ordered the Ashlyn Turkey sandwich, the turkey was TENDER and delish, but that cranberry sauce sent it to the moon! Tart and sweet, smooth with POPS of chopped cranberry, just the right mix of spices. I'm total convert!!! At least for the CBS at Sammich. I only ordered the one, because my daughter and I were going to share....it was HUGE and defiantly a shareable sammi During this quarantine,it was a real treat to get out a grab a meal.
