I was hesitant on going here because of the other bad reviews but this place was delicious! I know my Chinese restaurants because it's my favorite food. My bf and I ordered the dinner special for 13.99 with broccoli beef, sesame chicken, bbq pork rice, and order of egg rolls. It was all very good and fresh. By far the worst experience ever for a Friday night dinner! First off, we ordered drinks. The waiter gave us can drinks with cups filled with ice and mostly water. For the tea my wife ordered, it came out cold. When we made the waiter aware of it, he blamed the machine for making cold tea. If you're the waiter, you should check that the tea is hot before bringing it out. All this took place within 5 mins being that we are the only ones here. I can only imagine how the food is going to come out! Customer service isn't there specialty. read more

This building has finally found an identity. It has been at least 13 different restaurants. They have a great special here that fills you up and does not empty your wallet. As is par for the course for Asian restaurants in the northeast, there is a Chinaman on his cell phone at one of the booths. China Star strikes out 3 times in the last 6 months. Very dissapointing since my family & I absolutely loved this restaurant 2 years ago. I won't go into detail about the other visits, but I will focus on this last visit, and it was absolutely a disaster. 1. China star has great Spring rolls *with the plum sauce. The last three visits they were "out of it". Instead of taking resposability, blame was shifted to the kitchen for not ordering it BY THE MANAGER. 2. While I was paying for my meal (to go~at the counter), my transaction was interupted by another customer ordering & paying. Instead of a curtious response to what was happening, I had to ask why my transaction couldn't be taken care of BEFORE another order was placed and paid for. The response was, "only the manager takes care of cash transactions". Very odd & I felt unimportant. 3. As a business owner, I understand that QUALITY & SERVICE are equally important for a successful experience. The quality, unfortunately has gone down hill. Rice is dry, like it has been sitting under a lamp for too long, not keeping customers happy with desired items that are PRESENTED ON THE MENU. If the items are unavailable....change the menu! I will NOT be suggesting this restaurant to anyone, half service with no responsability from management is VERY POOR SERVICE. And the food is good, but can't be great with poor service. read more

This location is no longer China Star Bistro, but Sam's Chinese Bistro(?) restaurant. My understanding is it is owned by the same people who own the one on Yandell. My co-workers and I went for lunch. After 50 minutes, only 3/4 of the table had been served their food. A group of people who came in after us was served before we were. At no point had the waiter asked if we needed refills. We only had an hour for lunch and needed to get back to work. After waiting that long one person had her order cancelled. My meal was brought to me as I was literally walking out the door. It took the waiter a very long time to bring out the checks and boxes only to find out that the credit card machine was not working. The man at the register was writing down people's credit card numbers on the back of the receipts to run later. That is bad business. Once I was back at work and had to eat my lunch during a meeting, I noticed that my orange chicken was undercooked and pink in the middle. Obviously, I didn't eat the rest of it. It's difficult to give three stars after wasting a meal I couldn't eat, but I can't in good conscience give less without having dined in or tried more dishes. I'm so disappointed with the Lo Mein however, I doubt we'll return. We picked up after having ordered online, the food was on time, and the portions were large. But,... for the life of me, after seeing that my Lo Mein noodles were basically Spaghetti noodles could I understand why anyone would recommend this dish. Besides the spaghetti noodles, the flavor was bland and the beef rubbery. I called the restaurant and asked if using spaghetti noodles was normal. He said, yes. I can't argue with that. So,... I tried to eat the meal, and finally stopped when I realized I was eating just to avoid wasting food. It was disappointing after being excited to enjoy Chinese take-out. Not Italian/Chinese takeout. Place is now called Sam's China Bistro. We had eaten there before, maybe five years ago. Food was decent, not great, but probably good for the area. The eggplant dish we got was probably the weakest dish. Service was friendly. I liked the comfortable couches. We got the dinner specials for two, which turn out to be the most economical way to go. read more

I eat panda about once every 2 weeks and I always order the same thing. Orange chicken, teriyaki and brown rice. The first time I ate at this location was couple of weeks back and they gave me uncooked rice but I did not noticed until I got home so I did not make a big deal or anything because I know it happens at times. But today I asked for the same thing and once again they gave me uncooked rice. I do have pictures but I cannot post them here but I know for a fact I'm never eating at this location again. Service was horrible! Waited fifteen minutes before anyone stopped by and took our drink order. All the wait staff was behind the counter on their phones. They forgot half of our food order. We waited five minutes after our food was served to get eating utensils. For our drink refill we had to go to the counter and ask for a refills. Not once did the stopped by to check up on us. You would think they were busy and the restaurant was full of people, but it wasn't. There was about four other tables occupied for about 8 staff members behind the counter on their phones. Considering how limited the selection in NE el paso is for good quality food, I have ordered from Sam's China bistro maybe four times. It's always decent at best but close by so...whatever. the girl working the phone last night was so rude..over charged me so much I had to break down the bill over the phone because she was trying to charge 41 dollars for me n my two year old. When we got the bill correct I didn't order enough to make the delivery minimum..so I paid $3.78 for two cans of warm sprite...cold microwaved food...took forever to arrive...n get this...checked my account...she still over charged me by $3....not worth the fight. I would NOT even rate this place one star but that is my only option. Service was HORRIBLE, totally non-existent. 4 of us had lunch there, it took 15 minutes to even get acknowledged, we ordered our lunch and 2 appetizers. Two of us got our orders withing 5 minutes, the we got the appetizer's, the other 2 in our party had to wait 20 minutes for their food. The whole time the owners were sitting in the table next to us talking and laughing, I'm glad they were enjoying their selves! Now the food...All I can say is just thinking about it as I write this makes my stomach turn. One member of my party didn't even eat hers, it was that bad. Lastly, when I got up to pay, you could see into the kitchen, I wanted to run out. It looked like there were dishes in there since the weekend. This place was amazing when under previous management. Went yesterday and service and food were absolute crap. Took over an hour to get order and it was cold! The food has improved quite a bit since I ate at this place last year. The service was professional and the waiters are polite. The last time I ate at this place was last week with a coworker and the service was outstanding. Today, I had ordered online to test out their professionalism for delivery service. I would honestly have to say that it needs some improvement, deliveries should be made within a reasonable time. Waiting close to an hour is not very proactive and can lead to lack of business in the future for their customers. To be fair, thirty minutes should be enough time to make the delivery that is pleasing to the customer. I understand that the cooks need time to make the products they sell but I have family that is a chef and when she takes her time, still is done in less than twenty minutes. I say that they have to work a good bit in this area. Beyond that, the food is wonderful, the egg drop soup could use some work, since I have been abroad to oriental countries of many kinds. The proportions are wonderful, and pleasing to the eye. Overall, a decent place to grab a bit to eat. read more
