Visiting Salt Society has become a summer tradition over the past three years--and somehow, it continues to exceed expectations every time. The oysters are always fresh, the scallop dish remains my favorite regardless of how they prepare it, and their sushi offerings are good for sharing or as a main. On my most recent visit, we tried the duck wings--so tender and meat was falling right off the bone. The restaurant has two dining areas with comfortable seating, but I'd definitely recommend calling ahead for a reservation, especially in the summer when the town gets busy. The staff is welcoming. Salty Sunday's! Another 5 star review and experience for Salt Society in Scituate. We came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon during their Heritage Days. It is a lot of fun where the main street gets closed off and they have shopping, entertaining and so many other fun activities. We came to Salt Society for lunch and sat on their patio. I have been here before and have always enjoyed it. Our Server Bianca was phenomenal. Definitely ask for her if you can. She brought over waters while welcoming us. She then started to tell us, in detail, about their specials both food and wine. I have never heard of wine specials before so this was new for us, but it was great. She really did an amazing job at explaning what each wine was in depth and the notes of each one. Impressive! We started off with their Buffalo Cauliflower and OH! MY it was delicious. The sauce was perfect. It was definitely filling but it was also very popular since most tables around us had ordered it as well. A definite suggestion for sure. I wasn't all that hungry so my husband and I shared their Steak Sandwich. It was also good. The bread was very fresh and this is what makes or breaks a Sandwich especially a steak one. The fries were excellent. My friend ordered a burger which looked amazing as well. And, I had craving something sweet so I ordered dessert. We all shared their beautiful and photo worthy Key Lime Pie. You will see from the pics how pretty it came out. I almost did not want to touch it. Stop here for a quick lunch on our way back to Boston and wanted to see what Scituate was all about. This place had the best sushi! So worth it for a visit. Our bartender was great. The food came out quick. My drink was delicious. They have a vast menu with all different types of food, but a pretty hefty sushi menu with some fantastic options. I loved it. It was our first time here and after being given the option to wait an hour for a table or 15 minutes for the sushi bar, we decided to go with the sushi bar. We are so pleased we did. It was amazing seeing Leslie and his team crank our sushi the fastest and highest quality we have ever seen. We started with the Tuna Tartare, it was delicious. Serendipitously stopped after a visit to the Scituate Lighthouse - and WOW. The food and cocktail menu compared to everywhere else we stopped on the strip was so elevated! We got toro sashimi and high was fantastic, and sat at the bar watching the open kitchen. This was probably the best staffed restaurant we've been to this season - no one was waiting, and the artisan cocktails which do take time to make were being divided amongst the three bartenders caring for the restaurant. Food never sat in the window for more than 30 seconds before it was run, and we got some really thoughtful recommendations on other places to visit from the staff. It's extremely surprising to me that anyone experienced issues with the service and we will definitely be coming back for a dinner. What a magical find! read more

This place has been on my list to go and we finally made it. I got a hot and dirty martini~ it was good! Then we got the tuna bomb appetizer, loved. The scallop Lo mein dish was great. We also got oysters not pictured, so fresh! For sushi I can only remember the fire cracker roll and then I think we got a jalapeño roll. Everything was great 10/10. 3.5 stars My date and I had a nice time. Good service. Unfortunately, the air conditioning system is not sufficient in the heat of the summer. If you walk in, the left side of the restaurant is warmer which the waiter confirmed. Both my date and I were sweating by the end. I like the drink selections. They have a nice selection of beer on tap. My date ordered rosé, and I ordered a citizen cider. I followed that up with a peanut butter whiskey on the rocks. The menu is mostly sushi and other raw fish. We ordered a Philadelphia roll and either a firecracker or volcano roll (I forget!) and the latter was not spicy enough. The Philadelphia roll was better. If you want spicy try the spicy cucumbers. I could only eat a few bites. I was choking and chugging water. They were tasty but it was a bit much. I guess I might be Goldilocks. I want something that's just right. The shrimp tostada was tasty but kind of an awkward dish to eat. It comes out on a big chip and you have to break it up and try and scoop the shrimp and other vegetables. I ended up eating it with a fork. It's a good restaurant, but I don't think it's great. I wouldn't mind going back, but I'm in no hurry. read more

I met my friend here for lunch mid-day on a Sunday. The great thing about that time during the weekend is there are still brunch options available. We had a nice 2-seater table by the window, and our server was great. We started with the edamame (there are different salt options which we got on the side). I ordered the steak and eggs - the steak was cooked perfectly, and the potatoes were seasoned perfectly, crispy, snd absolutely delicious! SALT SOCIETY!! Wow!! Just look at those pictures! No reservations....Bummer. We drove down on a Friday night at 6:30p, parked in the public lot just a short distance away and walked over. We were told 30-40 minute wait, so we put our name on the list and walked over to look at the Marina. We were texted 20 minutes later and shown to our table. Our waitress was great and attentive and the place was PACKED. We ordered the Halibut Ceviche and Sweet & Sour Brussel Sprouts as appetizers. They were both amazing. The Halibut Ceviche was served with some tortilla chips and Cilantro Oil. The fish was fresh and delicious and the whole dish worked. The Brussels were cooked to perfection and the sweet and sour sauce was on point. Just the right amount before our small entrees arrived. I ordered a Tuna Poke and the flavors blew up my pallet. I want to like it. It's just that when you order Cajun seared tuna sashimi you expect that's what you'll get. Not something that tastes like hickory smoked jerky. Whatever they did to this fish it's unnecessary. And the described wasabi crème fraîche...was not there. It was necessary. The space used to be so nice, airy and modern, open and welcoming. It's now a dark, claustrophobic, man cave. Seating guests in wherever they can squeeze them on the overhang of a bar behind a post or clogging up a walkway. Add some hideous wallpaper and dark colors, feels like you're in grandpa's 1970 ranch house, that serves...sushi And buratta. I just don't understand the theme, a cigar bar would be fitting of this style. Then weaving through to another dining room/sushi bar/lounge/living room space or being sent out to neighboring restrooms when theirs don't work? Sort of overwhelming and underwhelming. The burgers seem ok. The cauliflower was nice. These are the safety items. I'm sorry but I won't order an steak and cheese with my dragon roll. Cocktail and wine pours are precisely and leanly measured. Less is more? Not with the decor it seems. Stop adding smoke (and mirrors) to things that don't need it. I've been hearing a lot about Salt Society for months and thought I'd see what the hype was about. Sadly, it didn't measure up to the hype. Dinner parking was hard to find. I did score a spot in front of Lucky Finns after driving around for a bit. There was outdoor, indoor and flexible seating. My kids chose to sit in the area with the club chairs and sofa. The ambiance was nice. It also lead to a conversation about Prohibition. Service was good and there was a lapse in outfitting the table for what was ordered. I get that they have two kitchens but, in my experience, when you order sushi it automatically comes with chopsticks, and soy sauce that you don't have to ask for. The waiter was attentive and the breakdown came from the navigation between the two kitchen set up. The curious menu confused me. I thought this was an Asian fusion restaurant but they had so little Asian foods compared to the mish-mash of other things they had on the menu, it made me wonder exactly what they were going for. I get having a few options for people who don't do seafood but that could have been achieved differently. Our party ordered the ribeye poutine, chicken tenders, signature burger, red dragon sushi, spicy salmon sushi, seaweed salad, the flourless chocolate torte and the salted caramel crème brûlée. The appetizers we good but not worth it. The ribeye poutine was heavy on the gravy and fries but extremely light on the ribeye and cheese curds. It should have just been called poutine at that rate because the ribeye was certainly not stealing the show. While it was flavorful it wasn't all it could/should have been. The chicken tenders were dry. The kids ate it though, the flavour was palatable. My son said that the burger was great. He liked the brioche bun and the sauce. The sushi was okay, pretty presentation. Have you ever had a dry seaweed salad? I'm exaggerating but this was the most flavorless, dry seaweed salad we had ever tasted. I wondered where the sesame oil and seeds were. I've had supermarket sushi that had more flavor (here's looking at you Whole Foods). I knew I shouldn't have done this but I thought we should give dessert a try. Epic let down. Just don't do it. Eating a crème brûlée that kind of taste like a salted caramel roux is not my idea of a happy ending. I'm still waiting to taste the peanut flavour of the flourless chocolate torte. If you're looking for a great Asian Fusion restaurant try Shōjo or Blue Dragon (when they reopen), Salt Society is not yet ready to join the party. I hope to review again in a few months. read more

I have been here twice and both times have had the sushi. The sushi selection is fresh and delicious. We ordered several different rolls and shared them, and enjoyed all that we had. The cocktail selection is very creative. Both times my drink has been very strong and a bit sour/spicy - I think I would probably stick to a more traditional cocktail as opposed to the ones featured on the drink menu. This restaurant is always very busy and loud. It is a small setting with a lot of people sitting closely together, which wasn't the most comfortable for me. The first time we came, we were seated at a table and could barely talk with each other because it was so loud. The second time we sat at the bar, which was a bit quieter, but not by much. Service was friendly but not the quickest given how busy it always is. The selection of sushi on the menu is limited compared to other sushi places locally. It was not a bad experience, but I would probably not go out of my way to come back. read more

I think we need to try again. We came early (they do not take reservations!!) for date night while back east visiting as we have heard great things. Cocktails looked good, however they were "out" of 3/5 of their special summer offerings. That makes me wonder if they're batched, or, they couldn't get the ingredients. We started with the seared tuna sashimi appetizer. It was surprisingly good and more "elevated" than others as the smoke flavor really held for the entire dish rather than losing its flavor. I could've eaten it all day, and I liked that there was a small serving of seaweed salad on the dish. The entrees however were just mediocre compared to the appetizer. We ordered the Halibut and Salmon; both were presented beautifully, smelled amazing, but both pieces of fish were a bit overdone which was a disappointment as the flavors were spot on. I appreciate that there is an offering of both a sushi menu and a scratch kitchen menu, but I'm not sure if just one menu needs attention to make it stellar. The space is beautiful, the bar was bumping, and everyone was super friendly. We're going to try again and hope we just caught the kitchen on an off night. read more
