Stopped in this past weekend with my family for the first time. We stopped by because we wanted a wide variety of food choices, with one person wanting seafood and my kids were surely going to want more American style food. The place isn't very big, but it is only about a 3 minutes walk from the beach. I had them make me a variant of their Hawaiian burger and my youngest got a regular hamburger. They didn't ask how we wanted them cook, so they were more pink that I would have normally preferred, but they weren't too bad. My oldest had a sandwich instead of a burger and said it wasn't bad. The regular seafood platters weren't inspiring, so we had to get oyster shooters (we got 6) and sweet potato fries. My friend got a bloody mary and asked for it not to be too spicy. We were told the drink was pretty spicy because they make their own mix in a huge quantity. However, she was able to get some extra tomato juice mixed in and she said it was good. She had a second one but didn't finish it. Overall, the food wasn't bad. It wasn't great by any stretch, either. We didn't get any sodas (just the 2 bloody Mary's) and the meal was $60. Would I consider coming here again? Sure. But I wouldn't go out of my way just to eat here again as well. read more

I went here to get some fish and chips and my favorite clam chowder. I was by myself on a not too busy day in the off season. The service was terrible, so much so, that it was close to me walking out, but I was hungry. I finally got someone to bring me water and eventually take my order. It was kind of a middle of the run meal, not terrible and not super great, but I ended up full. I'd hate to see this place if it was busy, I don't know if I would have ever been served. read more

Small little place on the main strip in seaside. I just wanted some halibut and chips which were really good (good tarter sauce!) and reasonably priced. Kids all liked their food. Wife had a turkey sandwich which was not great, dry turkey. Good service and food came out quick. read more

Darcy, one of the bartenders, is superb! She nicknamed my friend and I Lucy and Vivian-myself being Vivian. We live up in the Seattle area and each time we are in Seaside-SAMs is the place to go! Met a lot of locals who welcomed us into their watering hole with open arms. There's a timeclock for the locals to punch in/out for a reward (yes-we now use it too!) Awesome fun local atmosphere! Wanting some actual food after we had gelato for dinner (hey it was vacation after all...) we chose Sams. To be honest I didn't know what to expect as the reviews were all over the map. We shared a burger and salad and some bottled rootbeers. The service was great and they even split the burger and salad evenly on 2 plates so we had a nice little dinner. The burger and salad were tasty and fresh. I can't complain. Yes the decor is a little dated. But I wasn't there for fancy ambiance. I actually enjoyed some of the cheeky mermaid paintings they had, lol! *Now I don't know if this is just me, but if a menu is full of burgers and sandwitches that's the item I'm going to order, not say, clam chowder. I was hoping for better, but was not impressed. They didn't get my drink order correct. The fish and chips my grandpa ordered were greasy and over cooked. My bbq pulled pork was okay, barely topped with slaw, and too much bun to filling ratio. Not fully thrilled about $4.50 for a bowl of Mac n cheese that costs $1 for a box (however it's all my son eats so I had to suffer the cost). The service was a little slow (only one worker on the floor) so people were constantly waiting to be served. But the one person on the floor was AWESOME, and definitely a hard worker. Average in Every Way. Sams offers pretty basic beach food at pretty basic prices. I had a basic burger (about $8), which was of average size, and could have come from any one of a dozen fast food restaurants. My parents who were on vacation from Montana, figured they'd try some seafood since they were so close to the ocean and both ordered Fish and Chips, which were about Long John Silver's quality. I have to give them props for good sweet potato fries, which came hot and fresh from the fryer, as well as homemade potato chips, which didn't disappoint. The location is pretty convenient if you're spending the day on the beach, but the restaurant doesn't have a beach view and the atmosphere is kind of abysmal. (Think beach kitsch decor plus ten years of neglect.) Service here was also pretty poor. It appeared that only one waitress was serving the whole restaurant at lunchtime over the Independence Day weekend. We had to wait 25 minutes for our check after we finished our meals. It wasn't our waitress' fault, really, since she had so many other tables to care for, but it didn't make for a good impression. read more

The food was pretty greasy, and flavorless. I put a LOT of salt and lemon on my fish. I've found in seaside that there is an overall lack of salt.. which is weird for being an ocean-side community! We both ordered the fish and chips, the halibut was better than the cod (usually the case) the batter was light and crispy, but there was a strange greasy-ness about 1. the food and 2. the restaurant that had me wanting to leave the second I walked in. We had lunch here on our last full day in Seaside. We went during the off-season so there weren't a lot of people around. This place is our new place to eat in Seaside. Food was more than what you needed to feel satisfied yet so tasty I couldn't stop eating! Fish and chips very good and clam chowder bowl one of the best I've had on the coast and I live in Rockaway Beach. Cant say enough about our waitress, she was pleasant and very helpful. She also seemed happy to be there which you dont find in very many places. We will return again and again. Oh, and price was on the low end for such a prime spot. There is a Mo's going in up the street, if people are paying attention they will stop here and not walk further up to Mo's. read more

There just isn't enough good stuff I can say about Sam's we have been there dozens of times, it's always a planned stop when we are in Seaside. The burgers are top notch and there is a good selection of specialty burgers, not just your average cheese or no cheese joint. We always eat in Luke's Lizard lounge, in the back, because they have a great selection of beer, for a 6 table lounge on the strip. We came in at 3pm after a long meeting, I was hangry, to say the least, my burger was in front of me before I could even check my watch, great service, great folks. They were the only place decent open at 10:30pm! The other reviews almost turned us away, but do not miss out on this little gem! I ordered the French dip. The savory-ness of the grilled onions just didn't sit well with me so late at night. That's just me personally though. But the hand cut sweet potato fries were amazing! My only request would be that they had a specific dipping sauce for them. But they were great! My girlfriend had the halibut and chips!! I'm picky. I hate too much batter, or gooey batter. These were perfect!!!! Flakey, not mushy! I venture to say the best I've had??? I loved them!!! And her fresh cut fries were amazing too!! We were very happy with our food. The ONLY reason I did not rate this 5 stars was upon entering, the kid wearing the funny hat just stayed at the podium, looking at us. There was NO GREETING whatsoever. Nice inexpensive burger and sandwich restaurant in the heart of seaside. We were greeted immediately and our drinks were never left empty. I had the garlic burger with grilled onions and tater tots. Food was served hot and burger was good! They even allowed me to bring my dog (emotional service animal) so we didn't have to leave her. The other reason we enjoyed this place is because it seems like a lot of locals frequent here and therefore the prices aren't inflated like many other restaurants in the area. If you are looking for a quick and convenient burger joint that won't hurt your wallet I would definitely recommend coming here! read more

My wife and I used to come on dates here 15 years ago and it was always amazing! We walked in with one other table already sitting down and another family came in behind us. They got their food and drink before us. My wife and I waited 20 minutes for our beverages alone and we all waited 40 minutes for our food.
