The fish was fresh and I love the use of purple rice in the rolls. I was pleasantly full from the good food and portions. I would definitely go here again.

I was dining solo and had no trouble finding a seat since there's plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. That said, I was surprised by how quickly the place started filling up after opening, which is always a good sign. One of the first things I noticed was the large sushi bar and being able to watch the sushi chefs at work. There were five of them, which I took as a sure sign this place gets busy. I ordered the spider roll, salmon avocado roll, and steamed edamame. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and exactly what I was hoping for. One unique thing about Kodo is their rice blend. They use a combination of black and white rice, which gives the sushi a distinctive purple color. It's not something you see every day, and it definitely makes their sushi stand out. I also have a food allergy, and the staff handled it carefully and without any issues. They offer fountain drinks, which I always prefer. And I liked their plastic to-go container. It kept my leftovers from getting soggy by next day. Easy five stars.

6/8/26 A visit to one of Scottsdale's trendy Restaurants…read more There has been allot of buzz around the Roko Akor, great marketing, Wagu dumpling, Flame seared Stakes, Seafood and Sushi offerings in an attractive Scottsdale resort area where both Arizona visitors and locals enjoy staycations for Golf and fun. It's well placed amounst popular resorts, endless choices of golf courses, high end shopping, Spas and other eateries. For our of state visitors it is located in an area that provides a great destination for conferences and vacation launching point to enjoy what Scottsdale has to offer. Parking 5/5 There is a great turn-about like drop off near the front door I took advantage of. Other semi private parking is located along the west and south in front and behind the restaurant. Ambiance 5/5++ After passing through the foyer, you're greeted by staff receptionists who quickly get your experience started. The restaurant opens up to a large open dining space that includes an impressive "baresk" wrap around serving counter which allows guests to experience and interact with the kitchen staff. Adjacent to the main dining area is a very trendy wraparound bar and a little more intimate lounge with tables for guest meetups, date nights, after business meetings or relax after playing 18 holes at a nearby course. Facing the bar is the wine cellar, a floor to ceiling long glass presentation of their collection. There is a separate special event room in the back for hosting private dinners with special event reservations. Tonight this room was reserved for Yelp's "Elite All-Stars" and hosted by the Roka-Akar and the wonderful Phoenix Yelp Community Manager (CM) Francheska J, I popped my head in to say hello to her and she was kind enough to give me some merch. Unfortunately, the experience was disrupted by a large group of intoxicated golfers. There is a dress code, and had it been enforced, this situation may have been avoided. My husband and I were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary, and the group became extremely loud--yelling, using inappropriate language, and creating an uncomfortable environment. Management did try to handle the situation, but when the group was leaving, their behavior escalated. They were running around near our table, and when my 69-year-old husband (who uses a scooter and oxygen) spoke up, they became confrontational and appeared ready to start a fight. It was disappointing and honestly a bit unsettling. For a $200+ dinner, you expect a peaceful and upscale experience. While the restaurant itself is wonderful and the staff made an effort, this incident took away from what should have been a very special evening.

If you're looking for drinks, you can sit at the bar or the comfortable seating that surrounds the bar. Don't sit for too long though because there's a little outdoor deck close to the elevators where you can see nice views of Scottsdale and Phoenix. Move toward the back and you'll find the sit-down restaurant and patio area. On the patio, you'll see those same scenic views. There's even an area with 10 or so semi-circle booths that face the windows (and those views I mentioned). Definitely a romantic, date night type of spot. Service (3.5/5): The service hasn't been bad the two times I've stopped by, just a bit slow. There was one bartender both times I visited. The second time, he must have gone to the bathroom or something because I waited 10 minutes or so to order a drink. That's the downside of only having one bartender working. Food (N/A): I've only had drinks the two times I've visited, but I have perused the menu and it looks interesting. It's upscale, think of it as the menu you'd typically see at a steakhouse with some flair. What type of flair, you ask? Exotic game. We're talking things like ostrich fillets. If you're the adventurous type, all of this should pique your interest. If you're not, there's a lot of "regular stuff" on the menu too. Drinks (4/5): Orange Sky has an interesting list of craft cocktails. I've tried two different cocktails and they were both solid. I was impressed with the unique blend of ingredients. They're a bit pricey, but well done and boozy (always a plus in my book). Outside of cocktails, they have a full bar so beer, wine, liquor, etc. That ostrich fillet is on my mind. I'll have to try it on my next visit.

The atmosphere was great and the restaurant was clean and nicely appointed. Pricing was surprisingly modest in this exclusive Scottsdale locale, and they also offer an "all you can eat" special for about $39 which is an excellent value given the high food quality. We were very sceptical at first but the recommendation was spot on. We were seated right away and our server Bela approached immediately. She was very friendly and went down the menu telling us all about the specials and her recommendations. We needed no recommendations because we were there for one thing the Bei special. The special was an assortment of various rolls assembled beautifully making each piece stand out. The first bite was divine and as we worked around the ring of rolls they got better and better. The sauces brought perfect harmony and complemented the fish. The sushi was incredibly fresh not having the fishy order lingering. The rolls melted in your mouth like butter leaving you satisfied. It was so good we placed a second order. Bela stopped by frequently checking on us and also telling us about the restaurant and the area and provided a friendly atmosphere that you do not often get in northern Midwest. The Spider Roll was very good except for the sauce on top that did not suite our palate but after removing the sauce it was fantastic. The Hot Mama Roll was also amazing. The flavors went well with the Yuki Mango Nigori Sake. We also tried some of their beers and spent a while catching up. Belas service was second to none and made this reunion fabulous. The sushi at Bei was better than 95% of our sushi restaurants in my state and the price was very good. They also have a cute cat robot that delivers food!
