Birthday celebrations for our family are always fun! The birthday honoree gets to choose the restaurant on where to dine. My son chose Samurai Steakhouse in West Bloomfield. He was wanting the Hibachi grill experience. The hibachi cook was entertaining as he prepared our dinners for our party of five. The only drawback was this was probably a little too much for my two year old granddaughter. The fire was alarming for her. We probably needed to wait to expose her to this when she gets a little older. On the other hand, our food was delicious. We had made reservations and were seated immediately. I followed Krazy crab from Farmington to this location and must say I won't be coming back. The pricing was increased but food quality and quantity decreased. Our waitress was good no complaints with her but because of the owners greed it left a horrible impression on the whole experience. Specifically, After giving me my receipt where she forced a tip for two ppl she then added random charges to make my bill higher. It's obvious they're having some money issues but that's not on the customer to solve, and with practices like that it'll only get worst as customers won't return. It was definitely a lot of good although all kinda tasted the same cause they were all cooked with the same sauce and even style - from the fried rice, noodles, steak, and scallop. Every time we come there is an issue. We call and ask if there is a wait and they tell us there is not. We waited twice almost 2 hours to get our food. Literally only 1 waitress in the entire restaurant and 2 cooks. They have dishwashers coming to cook your food. Also, the quality of food went down. The soup taste like water, the salad is just sat in the fridge and you eat the ice chips on it...sad I use to love this place, but they need to hire more staff and have a cleaner environment. read more

I really appreciated that they were open until 10. Our family doesn't celebrate in the traditional way so it was cool having a restaurant to have Christmas dinner at. My husband and I each had a drink and both of our drinks were gross. The recipes themselves were just not good flavor combinations and they made them strong, so yeah. Food was good. Between my sushi and my husband's, everything was good. Not 5 star amazing, but goid. We had a great server. Worked efficiently and professionally. My one main complaint about this place is the bathroom. The toilet barely works. Used toilet paper has to go into the trash can otherwise the toilet backups. We've had a discussion with the owner (years ago) and he was an awesome guy. I cant understand the poor reviews. First come first serve, no promises no problem. My Friends and I came for sushi, the service was good, our server was danielle and she did a good job. The atmosphere was nice. However the actual food was awful. Our table of 4 all agreed at how bad quality the sushi was. The raw fish was not even close to fresh, it was weird tasting as well as the texture was difficult to chew. Hubby had to talk me into going to Samurai Steak House. It doesn't look like anything special from the outside - it's in a strip mall and the storefront is nothing special. The interior is nicely appointed, with beautiful wood accents, including a curvy wooden ceiling that it quite impressive. The hostess gave us our choice to sit in the hibachi room or in the dining room. Once we confirmed we could order from the hibachi without sitting in that room, we chose the dining room. We were seated in a comfortable booth that felt cosy and private because of the high back. The wall the booth was against was translucent glass, so we could see the light from the hibachi flames - very cool. I ordered edamame, miso soup, and the crunch roll. Hubby ordered hibachi steak and shrimp, with a side order of fried rice. I had plum wine; hubby had Sapporo. The edamame was exactly what one would expect. The soup was good, and the crunch roll was delicious (although I don't think it was really a crunch roll, because it wasn't tempura). The plum wine was a terrific accompaniment my meal. It was sweet, but with a citrusy finish that complemented the spice of the (alleged) crunch roll. Hubby's entire meal (which he generously allowed me to share) was absolutely yummy! The shrimp was grilled to perfection, the steak was tender, and the fried rice was some of the best I've ever eaten. The soba noodles that came with the meal were also tasty, dressed lightly with a teriyaki sauce. Boy, am I glad I let hubby talk me into eating here! We will be back. Called ahead and asked if they could seat my family of 5. They said of course, it's first come first serve. When we arrived, we got seated immediately. The waiter was nice but it seemed like it was his first time on the job. We asked for 2 waters, 1 kids water, and a hot water with lemon on the side. Ordered our dinner, but received it late. People who sat after us, got their food before us. I have two kids, it's hard work work entertaining two kids who are hungry. Then making us wait longer than we are suppose to. Not okay. This place was so clean, friendly, helpful and delicious! They stayed open just for us, let us dined in even though they were open only for carry out, and was super nice. I've never dined in here but I do often order carry out. I have tried many different Japanese restaurants and I would say if your a fan of Benihana's rice then you should enjoy the Samurai steakhouse as well. I love the chicken fried rice and I also love their sushi. They are one of the few places that have soy wrap for the sushi (I don't like the seaweed wrap). The sushi are large rolls as well. I wish I could tell you if the food was good here. Unfortunately I have no idea. First I called to make a reservation. I should've taken the fact that it was quite loud in the background and that he seemed to be confused as a clue. Eventually he had my name and 7pm down. We get there at 6:55. The restaurant was chaos. Kids nearly climbing and falling into the coy fish pond. Customers all over the place in random chairs, standing and more. Nobody quite looked like they knew where they should be. We couldn't find a single person to help us. No host or hostess to be found. After 15 minutes we saw a woman who worked there walking by frantically. I told her we had a reservation. She looked. We did. No words from her were spoken. She disappeared. She didn't come back. But I heard them seating the people with a reservation for 6:20. So... we decided to leave. There was no way we would've been seated within the next hour. The hibachi stations were full and there were many 6:30 reservations ahead of us. What a mess. So how is the food??? I have no idea. read more

I've been here for lunch twice and have only gotten the sushi. Pros: Good, fast service Reasonably priced lunch combo Variety of rolls to choose from They use tempura flakes in their spicy rolls. Tasty clear soup Cons: Sushi rice was a little "tangy" (maybe they use a little more vinegar in their rice than other places I'm used to). Not much tuna in the spicy tuna roll. As far as sushi goes I still prefer a couple other nearby places (Sanka Tei and Yummy House) but would have no problem returning. I'll be back to try their hibachi as it smelled amazing and the prices for that looked reasonable, too. read more

Normally this is my favorite spot for hibachi but with covid 19 and only being able to carry out I am beyond disappointed. Not only was my chicken over cooked, fried rice/noodles dry, and vegetables not cooked, I was told 30-35 mins. Took over a hr to get our food. They are not organized as to how to receive your carry out. You walk up and it says call when your there. When you call they seemed annoyed and tell you 10 more mins. So I call after 10 mins and they said it's almost done and they will call when it's done. 20 mins later I get a call but then have to wait another 10 mins for them to bring it out. I still stand by my previous rating and give Samurai ANOTHER 1 star review for my second and final time here. My party of 7 came back again after the holiday season. Business was much slower on a Thursday night and we were seated right away for our reservation. Coming back wasn't my idea, but I said why not... Maybe I didn't give samurai a fair review the first time. I opted for sushi since I knew what their hibachi would to taste like. I've seen so many positive reviews about their sushi it's time to put the other part of their menu to the test! I ordered a salad on the side. I really enjoyed their ginger dressing. The lettuce was very crunchy and crisp but I had to hunt down a server for chopsticks twice to actually eat it. Overall, the hibachi grill was a better experience this time around for my in laws. Hooray! My husband and I placed our orders at the same time with our hibachi loving family but there was an awkward 5-10 minutes after the hibachi grill was turned off before my husband and I were served our 2 sushi orders. (Spicy tuna, volcano roll and salmon nigiri). The salmon nigiri was perfect. The fish practically melted in your mouth like butter. The volcano roll and spicy tuna on the other hand were downright inedible.Typically, spicy tuna has a red sauce or tuna chunks. Samurai apparently blends/mashes everything together in a pink fusion and the rolls were fishy. The spicy tuna that was garnished on top of the volcano roll had a black pepper tint to it and tasted dry and smoked. I ate a roll and was hesitant to eat another. I asked my husband to try one since he loves spicy tuna. He almost gagged. We left 80% of the rolls on the dish and didn't take any home. I am not one to waste food but I know that the gesture of putting the food in a take out container wouldn't change the fact that it was the worst tuna sushi I've ever had in my life. Noooo. Okay, if you have had proper hibachi before, you will most likely not be satisfied. Example: the noodles which you would expect to be lo mein were actually spaghetti noodles, it was sad. Everything is slightly off, the sauces will leave you wondering "why does it taste like that?" Also, I ate this meal about 18 hours ago and my bowels are in an uproar. I wish that I could give this place zero stars. It started out well enough, but shortly after I arrived a large party came in and it was clear that I was no longer a priority. It took 30 minutes for my entree to arrive and when it did it was cold, wrong and burned. It was tossed on the table in front of me as the server, Scott, went to chase tips at the larger party. When I refused to eat it he asked what was wrong. I told him that the food was burned and cold. He said "d*mn that" sucks and brought me the bill without taking the bad food off. When I asked him about it he said there was nothing he could do, then he disappeared for another half hour to wait on the large party, who had their food prepared in front of them, paid, and were leaving before I got fed up and walked to the counter. I just had lunch at Samurai Steakhouse, we ordered our food and decided to order the same items to go. The waiter stated no problem and put the order in. After our meal the waiter brought the bill which included the to go items. The waiter then came back stating there was a problem with the register. After a short delay the waiter came back with an entire new bill stating that his manager said we cannot pay the same price for to go items as we had paid for eat in. Not only has the quality of sushi gone down hill so has the service. We dined in tonight and the young man took our order, then dropped our food off and never returned back to the table. (Mind you it was not busy in the dine in area at all) No drink refills, forgot to bring the specific condiment I initially ordered and then waited around for about 20 mins for the check after we finished eating. So I've been coming here for years... but today was awful and I'm made I spent $100 and didn't check my food before I left. I was in a hurry so I did a call in order to eat when I got home. I ordered a hibachi lobster, scallop, and filet mignon. And another hibachi dinner with scallop, shrimp, and sub steak for extra veggies. I requested my steak to be cooked medium. And instead of the noodles because of their dinners come with the noodles... I always sub the noodles out for extra rice or veggies. The lady read back my order and it was correct when she read it back. Came here for a work outing so I didn't check the yelp reviews. I gave this place two stars because the food really lacked flavor. We ordered crab rangoon and it was absolutely disgusting. Crab rangoon is one of my favorite things to order at asian restaurants so I've had my fair share. The hibachi chef was nice and did a great job with what he had. The chicken and fried rice had zero flavor and I was pretty sad about that. Hibachi is usually always so good but at least consistent. In my opinion, there are plenty of other hibachi restaurants that are far superior. read more

I eat in here pretty much on a weekly basis. Samurai is located close to a movie theater and lots of retail. The hibachi is wonderful and reasonably priced. The sushi is very americanized but delicious, and they offer an all you can eat deal from time to time, which I highly recommend. Service is prompt and I rarely have to wait more than a few minutes to be seated and served. If you're out shopping at costco or target or whatever..pop in here for lunch. You won't be disappointed. read more
