Samurai Steakhouse is just like Benihana. They use a whole lot of butter, do the same tricks and you get that weird feeling in your stomach when you leave. The owner at Samurai is very nice and welcoming. There's a hibachi side and a sushi side of the restaurant. The prices are very cheap compared to Benihana but these kind of restaurants are not my favorite. The place is empty during lunch time. The sushi is great. My favorite thing to get is the green river appetizer, and their ginger salad and dressing is very good. read more

Stopped in for Sushi on a Monday night. Main restaurant was nearly empty (don't know about the Hibachi side), Server was polite but glum, not welcoming at all. We ordered salads, soup, and Sushi. The salads and soup took about 15 minutes to arrive; pretty sure the server had forgotten about the, because the Sushi followed about two minutes later. Even worse, he set the soup bowls down with his thumb IN the soup. Unacceptable. Also, he didn't check on us once during our dinner. That said, the Sushi was excellent. Came here because Walgreen photos weren't done. Ate alone in the bar / booth area. The hibachi was packed. People looked pleased to be there and enjoying their meals. Would come back with my kids to try. Had sushi - tuna roll and miso soup and a salad. Basic but good. Left feeling very full and satisfied. Had dinner here last night for my birthday! We made a 6:30 reservation arrived on time and were sat in about 5 mins. Atmosphere clean and decorative...A little chilly due to the fact that they cook table side and run the fans so maybe bring a sweater! Very friendly and attentive staff...were served drinks right away and ordered quickly...Cocktails were tasty and reasonably priced. We ordered two appetizers...Gyoza great....Calamari only okay. We had Hibachi and Tempura...Hibachi Chef was entertaining and food was delicious with plenty to take home...I had Steak and Shrimp Hibachi ($25) served with ginger salad, soup, noodles, fried rice and veggies! Soooo good! My picky father in law really enjoyed it too! As it was my Bday my fam had them bring me a slice of cake and the whole table sang! We have been to this restaurant a couple of times and even ordered to go from them a few times which all have been great. Tonight, Christmas night, my entire family is sick and we had to order in as none of us were going to be leaving the house or wanting to cook. Dinner at grandmas was canceled because they are also sick. We decided to order from samurai. First the order come in wrong. So I call and the manager tells me to call door dash. I said no. She said well we are really busy. I said I do not care, this is your job. Please send my friend rice ASAP, not in 45 mins. My sick child needs to eat. Then she tries to refund my money, all while being incredibly rude to me. I said no I just want the food I paidf for delivered please. Puts me on hold. Then says ok you come pick it up. I said if I have to come pick it up and leave my sick husband and 3 children this will be the last time I ever come back and I will make sure other customers hear about this. She says I will give 2 fried rice. At this point it's not about the food anymore. I then drive here very upset. I spoke to manager and she was still incredibly rude and passes me around to other people. By now my food at home is cold, my sick children are hungry and I'm very angry. He gives me a gift card, I said I won't be coming back here ever again and proceeds to tell me I have to call door dash. I figured I would not get anywhere with the people working here so I get the names of the manager and every employee I've dealt with as well as the owners name. Will not return. Have been loyal customers since they opened years ago. The only thing that kept us going back is Teddy the best chef there. Their food is bland and prepared differently depending who the chef is. Teddy was always great and prepared the food the way you asked for it and had lots of flavor! The owners are upset that people request Teddy to cook for them. After waiting over an hour just so we could get Teddy the owner said that he would not cook for us! There was also another couple who waited for him and said that he is the only reason they come here too! After the owner played his games not allowing Teddy to cook for us they got up to leave and we did too. Teddy you should open your own place. This restaurant will go out of business if you leave and you could take most of the customers with you! We go to certain restaurants because of the chef or wait staff. It is nice when they know what you like and provide great service. They get rewarded too with excellent tips and it's a win/win. I am Having a HARD time even giving them a 1 star! We had a 6:30 reservation for 16 to celebrate my daughters birthday. 1) When the reservation was placed, it was NEVER mentioned that the whole party would have to be there in order to be seated. The whole party was there by 6:45. 2) By this time the place is really getting busy. We informed the hostess that our party was all there, but the room was full, so obviously it didn't make a difference if there was a reservation. 3) It is now 7:15 and some people have left, but there is a party of 30 that has arrived. Their reservations were after ours, but they got seated first. 4) As all this is happening, we are TRYING to find a manager. The only answer we ever get is "ok" or "let me see". 5) We talk to the "manager/hostess" and she tells us that she will give us 2 free meals. and it will be 15 minutes. NOT acceptable, so she gives us a percentage off and says by &;30 we will be able to sit down. So we WAIT. 6) It is now 7:30 and they are NOWHERE near being able to seat us. There are 3 more parties that are waiting to get seated by this time and EVERYONE is upset. It is OBVIOUS that they overbook on purpose and make NO plans WHATSOEVER to take care of the customer. They are very disorganized, and have a poor attitude towards their patrons. If you are smart, you WILL NEVER go there. They lost over $400 from our party, because we LEFT. We called The Cherry Blossom restaurant in Novi, and 5 minutes later when we arrived there, they had a table set up and the service and food was WONDERFUL!! . So don't waste your money or time at Samurai.. go down the street to Cherry Blossom. read more

Maybe I was there on a bad night. I was there last night 3/20/2014. We walked in and were greeted by a "hostess". She had on sweat pants that were purchaced at a local lingerie shop (PINK written on the backside). She had on UGG style boots, with one of the boots have tucked in and the other not. We were sat at one of the HIbachi Tables. There were only 4 of us at the table which was fine. It took a bit to get waited on which is fine. The two Hibachi Tables around us were empty, half bussed with a bussing bucket sitting on it. Pretty unsanitary. When we finally ordered I asked the server is someone could clean up the tables around us. Not a great view. She complied, but the attitude received the rest of the evening was not very pleasant. While the food was good, the Hibachi chef did not entertain or engage the diners. I enjoyed the company of my niece and the food, but the overall service, cleanliness and staff attitude make this a " Do Not Return" in the future. There is too much competition for this type of restaurant to lack in any area. read more

I have been going to Samurai regularly since they opened. There this week on a Thursday at dinner time. Not much business, they had to put my daughter and I at a table alone. Went to order hibachi for her ( we would have shared )and Sushi for myself. We were told unless we both ordered hibachi we would have to move to the other side of the resturant. We decided to both order a hibachi meal so my daughter could have her meal cooked at the table. As we were being served our salads another party of 2 sat with us and proceeded to order one meal for the two of them as I had requested and was denied. Not only did they not offer to change our dinners they made us wait an additional 15 minute so that this other group could catch up with their soup and salad. At the end of our very unexciting meal I was asked how my meal was by the same individual. As I told him of my dissappointment he blamed me for allowing the other couple to sit with us. I could have said no he told me. DUMB!!! I will NEVER go back here again. I know in this market service is everything and these people have nothing to offer. read more

One of the worst customer services I have had in my life the Asian lady that I had was terrible, me and my friend came in today for Mother's Day and we asked for the hibachi lunch and she didn't say anything about not having lunch for Mother's Day because of the holiday and so we found out we had to pay double when the check came, which in my case I didn't care $20 is really nothing to me but my friend was very upset, which made me upset and then the worst part is after I get my card she didn't give me a pen, waited for the pen for awhile, nothing so I left she runs out saying that I didn't sign the receipt, okay obviously I'm upset and you didn't give a pen to sign anything with what am I supposed to do wait for an hour? So then I signed it and gave her a tip outside, I really regret giving her the tip cause she really didn't deserve it at all and she says shame on you? Like are you fucking serious I really regretted giving her the tip right after but I guess this review will take its toll for what it's worth to me. The owner should hire more understanding employees and people that don't point at you and say shame on you, I really was just about to laugh out loud, did that really happen? But anyways don't come here unless you want decent food and the worst service humanly possible. I used to come here once in awhile but today just let me know I will never come here again. read more

I have been to many hibachi grills but something was not right here. They did everything backwards. My meal got cold while I waited for the chef to cook it. He did not interact with the table or do any tricks. He cooked the protein first then did the noodles last? Protein should be the last thing you do. Also a very tight squeeze. i've been here 2x and everytime has been great. their hibatchi lunch/dinner prices are fairly reasonable compared to other places in the greater metro detroit area. the decor is inviting with staff that are amiable and welcoming. the hibatchi portions are HUGE compared to what i've had. not only do you get the typical miso soup, salad and shrimp appetizer, but you get noodles, too! usually i can finish my meal in one sitting at a hibatchi restaurant, not this one. be prepared to get a doggie bag! read more

This restaurant is located in a strip mall i frequent and I always wondered about it. The interior is rather dark and dismal but rather spacious. The sushi we ordered was good, nothing spectacular but good nonetheless. However, the service was lackluster. Our waiter acted as though he was rushed or annoyed when we asked for additional things and just had a general "can't-be-bothered" demeanor. Service is always something that depends on who actually serves you which varies obviously. Regardless I would return if I was in the area, though probably for takeout only. read more

I have never had the hibachi here only their sushi. Every time I've been there it has always been a good experience. The sushi is always so fresh and the presentation on the platter is always neat. My coworkers, husband, and I all love the heck out of this modest hibachi/sushi joint. It is in the middle of a strip mall and has always had a pretty calm and comfortable atmosphere when we've been. The hibachi meals are very well priced for how delicious they are -- definitely love steak and fried rice, and the portions are very generous. They have a good selection of wines, sakes, and beers, as well as bubble tea! The chef we had every time is very funny and does a great job, and our service has always been pretty good. I am just a big Samurai fan for a not-too-pricey, filling, fun meal. read more

We had a graduate party there. Went in a couple weeks before to set up everything for about 35 people,told no problem no problem! The wait staff was great! The food was very good. But the owners not very nice! Very grouchy,not friendly when cooking the food. One of my tables did not get their food cook till after the first two tables were done. Try to explain to owner not acceptable,but all they did was yell short a cook! Not sorry nothing! It was kinda of embarrassing and I will not recommend this place for large groups! This place is NOT good. First of all, made a reservation, was seated 30 minutes after our time. Drinks took forever, waitress forgot a drink. And worst of all the food was awful. It's like they think if they drown the food in butter and garlic seasoning that it will taste good, it didn't. The presentation was awful, basically everything on my plate looked brown. And the noodles they served was basically spaghetti fried in too much butter. I could barely choke down my food so left hungry. Also the hibachi chef had no special tricks, not very entertaining. My wife and I come here regularly because we just love the Hibachi food. Lots of butter, lots of flavor. Usually slower when we come in but we usually have to wait for service and food. Service is definitely slow and forget about drink refills as waitress never returns except with the bill. We find it is much more affordable than Benihana but not the same level of service. They appear to only have one chef so if they are busy you have to wait that much longer. The dinner "show" is average to less than average. Other places the staff is more interactive.
