My pool guy told me to do a bucket test when I thought I had a leak in my pool. After 3 days I was positive I had a leak and was losing a lot of water every day. I checked on Yelp and saw all the good reviews for San Diego Leak Specialists so I called them. Ross came over and after I explained what I had done, he got out his equipment and started pressure testing the underground pipes. It didn't take long for him to figure out exactly where the leak was coming from - it was a 1/2" return line under a lot of concrete. Ross didn't want to cut up the concrete to repair the leak since it would have taken a lot of time and cost a lot of money, so he devised a way to plug the leak on both sides. He had to create a special tool to insert plugs into the pipe, but it worked great and solved the problem quickly. I highly recommend San Diego Leak Specialists if you ever have a pool leak! Ross did a great job for me. My pool maintenance expert said that he thought I might have an underground leak and recommended SD Leak Specialists. Ross came out, ran some tests and was confident that there was a leak in the PVC pipes near my skimmer. The very next day he came back out, cut through the concrete sidewalk near the skimmer, dug through dirt, rocks, and tree roots to expose the underground pipes. Then he showed me exactly where water was spurting out of a fitting. This leak was sapping the suction power generated by the pump, and had been running up my water bill for months. Charged $590 for initial visit. they found leak in autofill sump and charge additional $15 for plug. Pool was still loosing water a few days latter so I called them back for warranty service call. Once again, I rearranged my schedule. I said around was probably 1230-130 not 2 hours early. Rude and unprofessional. I have a Waters Edge (infinity-like) pool and it was losing salt and conditioner weekly...which usually means you are losing water. Contacted Ross at SD Leak Specialists and he gave me a diagnostic to try (Bucket test), which confirmed I was losing water...but my autofill kept the level appropriate after it did it's thing. Ross came out to diagnose root cause of problem. Very knowledgable. Very good communications skills. Turned out there were multiple issues related to the problem, which he knocked-off one after the other. Root cause appears to be a leaking check valve which results in my surge tank overflowing into the garden. He gave me a technique to keep that water level down while waiting for check valve to be replaced. I'd use Ross again in a heart-beat. read more

I cannot recommend San Diego Leak Specialists. I have two criteria for a recommendation. The first criteria is that the work be completed with professional competence. The second criteria is that there is value to the level of work completed. My issue with their service is that I was given the impression that any repair work cost would go against the up front cost of $550. That did not happen. I was charged an additional $400 for two minor repairs. If you saw the work completed you would know it was minor. I can't believe the service was worth $950. My pool service owner will not recommend San Diego Leak Specialists any more after he learned what happened. My recommendation is that consumers need to get at least three estimates before work commences and press for total cost to be charged. read more

We had what we thought was a leak somewhere underground as our spa was losing water and we had no idea why. Pretty scary sitation considering I am clueless when it comes to home improvement stuff and especially underground plumbing. What was even more daunting was it was the week of Christmas and a lot of places shut down. Ross was very responsive and actually came out the next day. I have to hand it to him, this is not an exact science as he had to try to find the exact leak under concrete. He was able to do so and referred me to a company that then dug out the concrete, fixed the leak and repoured the concrete. It looks like nothing ever happened! Contacted Ross about a major water leak we discovered in our backyard. We scheduled a day & time for him to come out. I was in freak out mode with a $400+ water bill for last month and the loss of 2-1/2" of water a day in a 18k gal. pool. SDLS was recommended to me by my pool equipment technician. I left Ross a message at 9:30 am and he called back that afternoon with a cancellation slot at 9:30 the next morning which I gladly took. RELIEF! Technician Ivo arrived on time, explained what he was going to do and got to work. He had snorkeling gear on as he inspected every possible location for a leak. I'm pleased to say he found a separation between the skimmer and the concrete and fixed it with epoxy. It really was a relief to have such a professional outfit working to solve my freak out issue. This company is awesome and we've used them twice now. Ross is a master at what he does and they are very experienced. Ross had us do a simple "bucket test" to confirm we did have a leak in our pool, and it wasn't evaporation. After we confirmed we were losing 1/4 inch to evaporation and another 1/4 inch to a small leak, Ross was able to quickly schedule a time. Through test and elimination he confirmed the point of the leaking (never would have found it) and he repaired. Ross is and was a rockstar. He was responsive, accommodating and down to earth. We thought we had a leak in our pool and called Ross up. He was out to our house pretty quick considering it was peak season for him I'm sure. After a lot of troubleshooting he determined that our leak was near our spa. He recommended a guy he works with who was able to fit us in quickly. A leak was fixed but after a couple weeks we noticed we were still loosing water and called Ross back up. He came back out, as part of his original fee, to look for another leak, which was still detected at the same spot as before. His guy came back out to open up the concrete again and no leak was found at that spot, but Ross came out a third time while the concrete was open and after more exploring, he found the leak, about a foot or so from where the concrete was opened. It was a cut air line pipe that fed the spa jet where he first detected a leak. The sound he heard in his detection was the air being ingested under ground being fed into the spa jet at that location. Ross plugged it temporarily and called his guy to tell him the story and where the leak was. His guy came back out and repaired the leak, patched the concrete and after a few days now, the leak is confirmed to be gone. We are no longer loosing water like we did before!
