Three companies were asked to give me bids for replacement of my 25+ yr old system. Another bidder did not bring any diagnostic equipment, but was very ready to come back to repair or replace the ac and would at that time inspect the furnace. His bid for replacing the ac did not even mention the need for permits. And then, there's Straight Shooter. They were already my service company and at check up time, Rich was concerned about the refrigerant level. He asked to come back on a warmer day to be sure the cold had not given a false reading. Rich also suggested it was time to find out if the aging system needed replacement due to some others signs. I asked him to arrange that, so Scott came the same day Rich returned. At that time, a crack was found in the furnace heat exchanger. Also, it was determined the ac refrigerant loss was so significant, repair would be too costly, especially for the ac's age.
