The text message I received letting me know that "an appointment is required or else you will not be able to pickup your glasses"
    James D.

Once Upon a time, Visiting San Dimas Optometry used to be an incredibly pleasant and fulfilling experience. However, the customer service has been declining recently. Don't get me Wrong, Dr. Garrat is the best! and when I had to have my eyes checked out for some structural anomalies, I was able to be diagnosed within an hour and I have to say that it was one of the most rewarding experiences in visiting a doctor. However, recently, it seems as if the staff within the office is using the Pandemic as an excuse to provide subpar customer service. On my last annual checkup, I was in the office for over 2.5 hours. There was no reasoning as to why it took so long for the appointment. And I had an appointment, it's not like I arrived unexpectedly at an unusually busy time. Usually, these appointments only last an hour, and that's what I budgeted my time for. I understand that there are additional precautions needed because of the pandemic, but it seems as if that is an excuse to extend a patient's appointment by 150% that it usually is. I ordered lenses at that appointment and then received a text message to "please call before you come in to schedule pick up". I scheduled my entire week with the intention of visiting San Dimas Optometry today to pick up my glasses. However, when I did "call before I come in" I was told that I need an appointment in order to pick up my glasses. Now I cant get my glasses until next week, and my entire schedule of the week is thrown off and I'm stuck with poor vision until then. I tried my best to express that it is a little frustrating that the text message did not indicate that an appointment was needed to get the glasses and that this frustration could have been avoided if the text message was a little bit more detailed. However, the representative on the phone became argumentative and said that "that is what the text message stated", I emphasized that I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I just wanted to express that it is frustrating that the requirements of glasses pickup were not detailed enough to communicate that I would be unable to pick up the glasses without an appointment. The representative remained defensive. I realized that my message was not going to get across. and I then told her "I must have misread the text", in order to get rid of the phone in an amicable way. All I want to express is that these 2 experiences of mine have indicated that this doctor's office is not what it used to be. Not sure if the pandemic is being used as an excuse for lower quality service, or if Doctor Garrat is starting to phase himself out, but the overall experience is declining. These are just two of my personal experiences, My fiance has other frustrating experiences recently and we both have been visiting for years. I hope this message is read by the staff and efforts are taken to improve the customer experience. It's just not worth driving all the way out there to receive sub-par service.

    Where is the caring staff?

This office use to have higher standards. New staff, poor customer service. They act like their there for a paycheck with no regard for any of patients that keep this business running, no warmth, understanding or even an ounce of friendly demeanor. They answer the phone well but when you go in it's a different story. And during Covid, one of the girls had the longest fake nails, super unhygienic. A poor reflection of the standards allowed and implemented at a time when we have a full blown pandemic. Sad state for a beautiful town such as San dimas. The Optometrist not so bad but the rest of the newbies bring down this business with so much potential. Never going back...

Why bother sending an email out on January 5 when I get told that I cannot make an appointment until after January 12.

The nice thing is that I can ask her any and all questions about my eye situation and discuss any concerns, and she takes the time to educate me and reassure me about my eye health. At age 70, I take my eye health very seriously and appreciate the information she imparts, and also the knowledge that she would alert me to any serious problems and initiate an immediate referral to a specialist if need be. I think I am on year 5 or 6 coming here and it has always been a good experience. Everything from the eye exam to the stress of picking your frames that will define your look. The staff is awesome and take their time making sure you are happy with your choice. Today I picked up a pair of prescription sunglasses. I also took an older pair of frames and put my updated prescription lenses in which was a smooth process for me. Shout out to Gabby for her help today making adjustments to the way the glasses fit on my face. She adjusted (3) pairs for me today and took her time to make sure I was happy with the placement and how the frames curve around my ears. If any place on Yelp deserves 5-stars its this place.

Positive review. 4-months Post-surgery OD:20/20 and OS: 20/15…read more I think many of you reading reviews right now are going back and forth about having vision correction surgery. Some of you might be like me and have extremely high myopia and want the vision freedom. From my experience, I researched ICL surgery since 2019. Once EVO ICL was FDA approved, I started looking for a surgeon for advice and see if I was a candidate. Before choosing IQ Laser Vision, I had gone to a different surgeon and he did say I was a EVO ICL candidate, however I was not impressed by him. I was later referred to IQ Laser Vision, where they contacted me and scheduled an appointment to see if I was a candidate. Their multiple offices made it easy for me to go meet with an advisor and doctor. However, with personal reasons, I was unable to get the surgery done during that year after that initial consult and going through their state of the art arcscan (apparently they're the only office that are using this technology to make sure to see if your eye has enough space/vault...very cool). Fast forward March 2026, I contacted IQ laser vision again in hopes that maybe I can ask them for another consult. Again, the advisor walked me through, doctors did their check up, arcscan again (still cool) and I was able to schedule my surgery. It was an honor to have Dr. Robert Lin be available to do my EVO ICL surgery. He was incredibly patient with my questions, listened to my story of researching this procedure, and I knew I was in good hands from someone who had worked on so many eyes. Perhaps my favorite part aside from the whole journey of vision correction and having 20/20 vision is that you can feel how much Dr. Lin cared for his patients. He called me personally to make sure my first day post surgery was ok. And even after 4 months later, he contacted me to make sure I was ok and how I am liking my vision. For those who are like me going back and forth about vision correction, I highly recommend making an appointment/consult to see if you can be a candidate. From there you can move forward and make that decision. I know it was later than I anticipated for myself, but I can truly say I am happy having that peace of mind that I can wake up and see, not have to worried about my glasses/contacts during a possible evacuation (fire or earthquake), and do water sport without fear of infections if I wore my contacts. That mental peace is probably the second to best part of this journey.

My eyes have always required thick lenses, which made it difficult to find certain prescribed…read moreglasses. I came here to get this corrected so I could deal with the issue. At 41, I've started to think that advancements in eye correction technology are much more promising than what has been available in the past. Surgery can be a daunting experience, especially when it involves your eyes. However, I encourage you to try the "Evo ICL" it's safe and has improved since last year. One of the best parts about this procedure is that if you're not satisfied with the results, or if a better option comes along, you can reverse the treatment. So, there's really no major risk if it doesn't work out. I qualified for the "Evo" ICL, and while I had my doubts at first, I've learned that patience is key when adjusting to a new way of seeing. Along with eye drops to aid the healing process, I found that after about three months, my eyes began to coordinate and adjust. What was once a constant dependency on glasses is now improving, and I'm starting to feel more normal without them. It's funny; I still find myself touching my face to lift imaginary glasses that no longer exist--it's just a habit! I highly recommend this option to anyone who wants to change their vision, whether it's for practical reasons, like gaming without glasses or to keep up with future technologies like AI glasses. As technology continues to advance, my previous vision issues made it difficult to enjoy some of these innovations. This procedure has truly helped me.

Over the years my vision continued to get worse, and by the time I turned 46, driving at night had become especially difficult. I knew it was finally time to do something about it. My father, mother, and brother all recommended Hyperspeed LASIK. They had also struggled with poor vision in the past, but after their procedures here, their vision was corrected and they now see better than ever. Hearing about their experiences gave me the confidence to schedule a consultation. At my initial consultation, I was honestly nervous because my prescription was extremely high--over -12 in both eyes. However, from the moment I arrived, the doctor and staff made me feel completely at ease. They took the time to thoroughly explain my options and answered all of my questions with patience and professionalism. A few weeks later, I underwent the procedure where lenses were surgically placed in both eyes. The entire process took about 45 minutes on a Saturday afternoon, and the experience was far smoother than I expected. The next morning when I woke up, I could already see clearer than I ever have in my life. It was truly incredible. I am beyond happy with the results and extremely grateful to the doctor and staff for their expertise and care. This procedure has genuinely changed my life, and I highly recommend Hyperspeed LASIK to anyone considering vision correction.

My little one was practicing writing her letters when suddenly she turned to me and told me she had "a black eye". What followed was a series of test performed by me, a visit to the pediatrician and an instruction by her pediatrician to see an ophthalmologist. This was a very difficult task indeed, I called place after place and no one could get us in or had an ophthalmologist or had someone who worked with kids. I called Claremont eye associates and it said they were closed but if it was urgent I could leave a message with their answering service. 1 hour later they called me back. Amazing from that point on. She told me they had no appointments available but they'd want me to come in right then and they'd squeeze me in if I didn't mind waiting. I got there and besides being confused since the map took me to the back of the office and the front door doesn't look like one, everything was better than expected. The front desk worked quickly and efficiently and was so friendly and patient. There was hustle but also slow down for questions. They moved people in and out flawlessly. They answered my questions about insurance. I saw the person I had talked to on the phone and she was even more friendly and kind in person. They took us back in less time than I've waited somewhere that I DID have an appointment. The nurse was efficient and experienced, professional and kind. My first interaction with the doctor was very brief and made me cry because as soon as he saw my daughters results he told the nurse to dilate her eyes and walked out and I felt confused and overwhelmed and wished someone would tell me what that meant. She was reassuring and patient and we walked to room after room as they completed the exam. When I saw the doctor again, he had all the hustle of everyone else but did show me her optic nerve and the back of her eye and assured me that from an "eye" perspective, she looked great, with the exception that she was very farsighted and one of her eyes was "nearly blind". While we were in there he got a call, and had to multitask. I got the sense that he is good at what he does, and he does it, without any fluff. I appreciate that especially because everyone else is over the top friendly, I'm fine if he's more "all business" especially because he did explain everything very succinctly and answered my questions and even was thoughtful of finances in where he sent me to get her prescription. A very positive experience. I felt so encouraged and cared for!

I'm following the drops as prescribed, and can notice every day improvement. I'm very happy with my decision, and would recommend it to anyone in fear, and anyone who's even remotely considered it, I held off for too long,. I opted for contoura which happens to be the latest and most advanced tech.

Oh this place. Beware of the billing and medical nightmare you will have with this place. I…read morereceived bills for which my insurance had processed and sent me EOBs with member rates. The company/billing denied receiving EOBs from my insurance. I explained we paid copays and I am being billed non member rates and that these claims need to go to the secondary payor as well. They didn't have record of my copays, and denied getting EOBs. So, I emailed my EOBs over, my credit card receipts and they said they couldn't open the files (who can't open a PDF). So I sent them again and as screenshots, they denied receiving them. I sent my EOBs to the email they provided me 5 times. They said fax them (who faxes stuff in 2026?), so I went to my local FedEx, faxed them, they denied receiving them. After over a month of this, and even Aetna calling them (with me on the line), they continued to send me bills with non adjusted balances. I filed a complaint with the BBB. Two weeks later I get a call from someone named Melanie. She said she has "found" my EOBs and will work to get these all resolved and submitted claims to the secondary payor. She gave me her number to call her if I had any other issues with getting my refunds. This was back in December. It is now end of February and my primary insurance (Aetna) and my secondary insurance have paid these claims in full. I am owed a refund of my copays that I paid in the office. I called billing, they said they don't process refunds. I called the office, they said contact the business department but they don't have a number to give me, billing will have this. I called billing again, they said we can't give you a number, call the office again. I've left messages, asked for call backs, no one is calling me back. I called the number Melanie gave me and it goes to a visa call center. What in the world is wrong with the place!?? I have gotten no where. The doctor (Eric Areiter) wasn't even that great, my husband saw him a few times with no results, would have his appointment cancelled or passed onto an NP or PA and we have since gone somewhere else and have had his issues resolved. This place is awful. My billing issues are still not resolved.
