Went around 9PM on a Saturday, there were a few tables available for walk ins, but we had a reservation for a birthday (just in case). The food was decent, exactly what it should have been but nothing above and beyond. Some of the choices were different, for example the meatball sliders on garlic bread. We also had the Chicken Francese, Eggplant Parm, and Farfalle alla Vodka along with a side of Mashed Potatoes. Again, food was decent so if you're looking for good Italian food this is a place to try. They are BYOB so you can bring your own bottle of wine. Other Italian places are a bit more lively, but San Giuseppe is more calm and family friendly. Most tables were groups. The service, however, is not good and leaves a lot to be desired. We were there to celebrate a birthday and were not given the option to order desert because the kitchen, unbeknownst to us, closed. There were two waiters and neither of them advised us of the kitchen closing or last calls, which is inconsiderate. Do not offer a 9PM time slot if the table can't be serviced to the fullest capacity or if the waitstaff cannot communicate something as simple as "the kitchen will close soon, any last orders?". You order directly from their website and it's delivered, I assume, by their own staff. Food came in exactly the time window they quoted and was very hot. X and I split the cesar salad, which was quite good. Solid portion. I had the gnocchi with vodka sauce and a chicken cutlet. X had the penna vodka with a chicken cutlet and buratta. I love the penne vodka pie here so much so I wanted to try the vodka pizza without the pasta to see how it compared. It still had the bold, smoky flavor that I love, but I think the penne vodka pie is better as the penne gives each slice more satisfying texture. The vodka pizza had a very thin, charred crust so it wasn't as filling. We also tried their fried mozzarella sticks. These were good. They are made with seasoned homemade batter and are definitely higher quality than average. Their italian eggrolls are also very tasty. read more

Can't condone the misleading Uber delivery time, which at more than 80 minutes was double the estimated range, but I was pleased with the penne arrabbiata and the meatball add-on. At the first bite it almost seemed too sweet, but the heat and complexity built up over time. And the broccoli rabe had a delightful abundance of garlic. read more

Easter Sunday dinner at San Giuseppe and it was worth the drive into Hoboken. It was quiet but 2 tables of families, a few take out orders, and the open pizza oven area kept things lively. The crispy fried ravioli with a creamy ricotta center served with a great marinara made for a great start to dinner. Food served hot makes all the difference so we enjoyed it. For main I had eggplant parm with the great marinara and fresh mozzarella. I appreciated it being served hot but it was missing something and found the taste too plain. It's served with broccoli and carrots but you can get pasta instead. The other entree was a teriyaki salmon, yes an Asian style dish in an Italian place and yes my husband got it. Taking the chance payed off and it was good, fresh, nice sauce served with a delicious rice with some flavor that we couldn't figure out. We were 3 for 3 on the great temperature! Even though we were stuffed, we just had a feeling the tiramisu would be good and it was! The place was mostly empty so service was fast and efficient. We'll be back with the kiddos. read more

The restaurant was chilly with the AC set too high for the conditions. Seems it effected the microwave too. The chicken was flat and dry...like when you microwave something too long. The lasagna was not baked and bubbly but flat and cold in the center. I recognize the sauce as Campbell tomato soup ...the one you add a can of water to. San Giuseppe is a (almost literally) hidden gem in Hoboken. In my handful of experiences, I'd put their food up against almost any Italian spot in Hoboken. The Chicken Burrata is the star, one of the best dishes I've had in Hoboken. Penne topped with thin crispy chicken cutlets, coated in a rich vodka sauce, and served with fresh (made in house I believe) burrata on top. It's incredible. Huge portion, worth every penny. Regardless of what else you get, if someone at the table orders the chicken burrata then you'll leave highly satisfied. And Giuseppe is a damn nice guy as well. read more

One of my relatives was coming in from out of town and needed a destination for a birthday party for her elderly father. Knowing a bunch of local spots, I gave her several options, including San Guiseppe, being sure to note that the comfortable dining room, parking lot (a rarity in the neighborhood), and byob status would make it a great choice. After calling a few venues, she simply fell in love with the ownership at SG, who were willing to work with her on a custom menu, allow her to bring a birthday cake, and just generally show her the warm hospitality that made her decision an easy one. The first course consisted of a variety of shared platters. The Eggplant Rollatini included spinach in the ricotta, making it extra tasty. The Fried Calamari was extremely crunchy, but still had a good breading-to-squid ratio. Lastly, the Mediterranean Salad was like a meatless antipasto. It included all of the ingredients that I loved from that region - red peppers, red onion, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, black olives, and feta cheese. With ingredients that complex, its basic red wine vinaigrette more than sufficed. For the next round, each guest had their choice of Homemade Cheese Ravioli in tomato sauce or traditional Fettuccine Alfredo. Since I am not one for cream sauces, I opted for the ravioli, which were plump clouds of cheesy heaven. Then came the main course, which could have been a Veal Marsala or a Chicken Parmigiana. I had not had veal in years and preferred to take the cheese-less route, so I went with the marsala. I thought the sauce could have used a bit more richness, but the dish was enjoyable otherwise. I did like that they served the protein with a side of sautéed mixed vegetables, a healthier option than just another serving of pasta. Lastly, we had a platter of Italian cookies while we waited for the cake to be served. I was not sure where the cookies came from, but they were great. From start to finish, we received the most gracious, welcoming service, and our lengthy table comfortably took up one whole side of the restaurant, but it felt like we were in a private room, despite the other crowded tables around us. After emailing the address on their website, Giuseppe immediately called me back after work hours and thoughtfully walked my wife and I through the menu to give us suggestions on what to order based on the number of people we were expecting. We came here on a Sunday with no expectations. It's great to go somewhere in Hoboken with parking!!! I have to say - we really enjoyed the food here. We also had a lot of burrata because we found out that all of the mozzarella is freshly made in house. LOL. It did not disappoint! We ordered the burrata, wings with onions, and the crostini as appetizers. I'm usually not a fan of crostini due to the hard bread - but it was actually soft and easy to bite into. I'm glad we got it! The burrata was also great and we loved the prosciutto and peppers as well. The wings had a rub on them which I liked a lot. Not sure how I felt about the onions. For entrees, I ordered the eggplant parm and it was a pretty large portion. I stayed with the veggies to keep it a little healthier but I think you can request a different side if you prefer. The Fresh mozzarella was delish. My fiancé ordered the chicken burrata - the chicken was thin and crispy and the vodka sauce was top notch. I'd probably get that next time! AND THE DESSERTS. The Rainbow cake is absolutely amazing and I would go back just for that... actually I will go back for that and for the food!!! The only reason I'm not giving them 1 star is because I used to like this place. However, the last time I ordered here it was so bad, it made me realize that they have no quality control at all. I ordered lasagna and what I got was some lasagna bits slopped into a container. It wasn't actually lasagna since it wasn't layered or anything like lasagna, and not only that, but it was about half the normal size. Since it was takeout, I didn't notice until I got home. Undercooked soggy crust (yes, I know that can happen with delivery) Bland sauce, and not enough of it, which is weird to say. It was not a $27 pie. Abhorrent. $17 wings were an absolute joke. Multiple broken, and half wings. Half; not flat vs drum, half of a flat was passed off as a "wing" I've had better eggplant parm from my corner deli. With tip, this was a $75 order. Shame on me. There were so many pizzas that sounded really good, but we finally settled on the Quattro Stagioni (Prosciutto Di Parma, Fresh Mozzarella, Artichoke Hearts, Mushrooms and Kalamata Olives). I have my bff to thank for this one. As a regular who lives around the corner from SG, she knew exactly what to order to make my belly happy. And that started with the pollo al forno - aka the most perfect wings smothered in caramelized onions. And I mean SMOTHERED. These juicy, tender wings are a big hit and for a very good reason. Definitely don't pass these up! We also ordered the insalata di campania, which encompassed all of my favorite flavors and textures in a salad - creamy gorgonzola, walnuts, and apples on top of arugula - the perfect blend of nutty, sweet, and savory flavors. So friggin' good. The veal in my vitello marsala was thin and tender, served with an authentic tasting marsala sauce that was creamy and rich in flavor. Impressive San Giuseppe, impressive. Honestly, I didn't think they'd nail it with the dessert too, but damn, they proved me wrong. The cannolis are made in house and the one I devoured had a super crispy shell stuffed with creamy cannoli cream that was neither grainy nor too dense. I love me a perfect cannoli. The well deserved 5 stars isn't just for the food. Service was superb and the owner made his rounds greeting every customer, which is always a nice touch. Prices are super reasonable, they're BYOB with no corkage fee, and they even have parking, which is a hard find in Hoboken. What more can you ask for? read more
