Today we were craving some rigatoni pasta and to my surprise, not alot of places are open for dinner here on Monday. But this place was and it looked great so I was so excited to try! First impression of the restaurant, there is a lot of seating and everyone was nice! We didn't know we came for happy hour so that was a happy surprise, we ended up ordering the shrimp app on the happy hour menu and it was DELICIOUS, then we got the spicy rigatoni with grilled and breaded chicken. Also AMAZING! Talk about huge portions, honestly we should have shared (rookie mistake on our part) but the portions for the money is such a good deal. My in-laws were coming into town for Father's Day and because it was super last minute, my pickings were quite slim for Friday night dinner with reservations for 6 people in Jersey City. My friend who lives in Hoboken gave me a few options for Italian restaurants and Il Taviola took reservations, had space for us, and had a very good menu at decent prices. I had thought I had never been to Il Taviola before. But the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was like, well, actually I have been here before and I just straight up forgot. Woops. Well, it was a pleasant surprise to be back and I actually had an even better time this time than last time. I had the spicy chicken parm with rigatoni and wow, it was actually quite spicy. It was really good, but super spicy! My SFIL absolutely loved it though and killed the rest of my dish that I couldn't finish. Most of the group had the lamb ragu orecchiette and thought it was quite good. Both burrata appetizers were really good and thoroughly liked by the table. Service was attentive and we were never rushed. I really enjoyed that the restaurant wasn't super crowded. I've heard great things about IL Tavolo and finally made it here early Friday night. It wasn't hard to get a table for 3 around 5:30pm. The vibe in the restaurant feels warm and like people are there to eat well and have a good night. Service was friendly and food came out in good timing hot from the kitchen. We ordered the classic meatballs, sausage and broccoli rabe, shrimp and chicken scampi over pesto risotto and chicken parm. Everything was good, we loved the sausage and scampi. The chicken parm was just OK, red sauce could have been better. It seemed like the move was to get spicy vodka rigatoni parm.... Our table neighbors both ordered that and it looked incredible. This might be the best Italian food I've had in the NYC area! The restaurant itself is really cute. We ordered the Pappardelle Bolognese, Chef's Spicy Vodka Chicken Parmesan, and the Short Rib Ragu to split. I went there based on reviews and was not disappointed. The atmosphere is nice. Nothing super fancy, but quiet and cozy. We had a burrata and a chicken parmiggiana with spicy vodka sauce. The burrata was excellent. It had some added flavors that I could not identify, and it was big enough as an entree even though it was an appetizer. My chicken parmiggiana was delicious. I would not take the spicy version again, I dont think the spiciness adds much or is necessary. But it was very tasty. Service was quite fast. FYI we got there at 9pm and they said that the kitchen closed 20 minutes later. Important to know given that it was a Saturday evening and we thought they closed at 10.30pm. read more

Had a very good experience here last night. Service was 5/5, drinks 5/5, apps 4/5 and my entree was 4/5. I also think pricing here is solid and nothing felt like a ripoff which is becoming more common in today's day and age. Will certainly come back to try more dishes. Got the long hot peppers for the appetizer and those were very good. Thought the portion was a little on the smaller side and thought the stuffing inside could have had more sausage. My entree of chicken picatta had exceptional flavor and the egg batter was the perfect texture. Capers nice and tangy and the sauce was very tasty without being too salty. I believe the linguini was homemade. I also felt the portion was slightly lacking. Everyone else at the table agreed that the food quality and taste is incredible here. The service here was very lovely. We had rotating waiters and they all were very helpful and attentive and kind. I loved the options on the menu and will definitely be back to try more dishes. The ambiance was dark, romantic and perfect for date night. We ordered Granny's Meatballs as an appetizer - delish! The ricotta on it hit the spot. We also ordered the spicy rigatoni and the chicken parm. This was probably the best chicken parm I've had in a long time. The chicken was crunch and well breaded with the cheese perfectly melted and the sauce was delicious. The serving was also enormous, this is easily a dish for two people. The spicy rigatoni definitely tastes homemade and is quality, but not quite the spicy kick I was looking for and the sauce was more of a pepper and onion tomato base rather than a specific sauce. This is something I'd eat at home which means it's certainly delicious, but not quite what I was expecting. I'm looking forward to trying their burrata and ragú next time! read more

Very good Italian restaurant in Hoboken but could use a few slight improvements. I came for brunch and ordered the Stuffed French Toast ($15), which was good but I thought they could've added more of the cannoli cream inside. Also, while the bread was soft, I would've preferred if they used thicker bread like brioche or challah bread. The way they did it, it was just two pieces of thin bread put together. In addition, the menu said it had chocolate chips and maple syrup on it, but they were no where to be found. Still, it was a decent French toast. I also tried the Italian Country Chicken and Sausage Gravy ($23). This was actually delicious. The chicken was cooked really well to be tender with a crispy crust. The sausage gravy was just the right consistency and paired well with the chicken and potato wedges. The sunny side egg on top completed the dish. The restaurant itself has a nice interior with one section with a bar and a larger section in the back with a nice lighting fixture in the center and tasteful Italian and festive decor along the walls. The dim lighting and exposed brick walls give the place a warm and homey atmosphere. We came on a Sunday afternoon and there were only a few others dining at the restaurant so it was a bit of a quiet environment. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The service speed was pretty fast. Overall, while the French Toast could use a few improvements, the chicken and gravy was great, plus the nice environment earns Il Tavolo di Palmisano a solid 4 stars from me. read more

Glows: service is amazing they are attentive but not smothering. They are kind and tell you to take a look at the specials. The food is generously portioned and delicious. The spicy chicken parm was to die for. Two large chicken breasts and a good amount of pasta. Definitely has a kick. We had the pleasure of having an incredible dinner at il Tavolo. The food was out of this world. It reminded me of going to my grandmas house where everything was just super fresh and made with care. It is 100 percent one of the better Italian spots in the area. My fiancée had the short rib that was just fantastic. I had the spicy rigatoni with a veal chop that was easily one of the best in the area. The portions are huge so expect to bring food home. The severs were just incredible as well. Jessica was very attentive and personable. She took time to spend a few extra minutes to get to know us and was so inviting. Conrad was friendly and super helpful as well. Wow, I was blown from this place. I was surprised how good the pasta was! We started off with the fried calamari and a complimentary bread with butter. I got their shrimp special pasta and my bf got the chicken tavolo. The shrimp pasta was a vodka based pasta with a kick of nice kick of spice. The pasta was thick and chewy which paired so well with the vodka sauce and shrimp. The chicken tavolo was good as well, and I have never had tavolo and it was interesting to try and something I have never tasted before. We came on a Thursday night and surprisingly it got packed around 7:30pm, so I recommend making reservations. Service was great, the server checked on us frequently and refilled our waters. Stopped in here for a casual Italian dinner. There's healthy discussion going on in the dining room so I wouldn't say it's quiet but it didn't bother me at all. Staff is nice and attentive. I had the Caesar as an appetizer which was good, nice flavor on the dressing Entree was the ravioli in tomato sauce. Pasta tastes fresh and it was good. I think I should have had the vodka sauce over the tomato sauce. I think the regular tomato sauce lacked some flavor I was looking for but I am nitpicking here. Outdoor seating is also available weather permitting. Rear dining room is capable of accommodating a medium private party. The ONLY but very small detail that is disturbing is the darkness of the entire establishment. Dim lighting is one thing but darkness is another. Our waiter would pop up out of nowhere in the dark like a Vampire to check on our experience he was awesome and professional. This is a must do spot for Italian. I'll give you the details: Started off with some very soft bread (wish it was warm, but all good). I was super disappointed because they gave me butter that had already been opened... like the container was open... and used... Huge red flag. Idk why I stayed, but I was starving and hungry. I ordered the hot cider with Bourbon. It was lovely. Not as hot as I would have liked, but was still good. I ordered La Nonna which was such an odd dish. It had a ton of meat (the waitress warned me) but the shredded pork, sausage, and meatballs were an odd pairing with a glob of ricotta. The pasta itself was decent. Again, not the hottest. I likely won't be back, but the music, atmosphere, and service were divine. The waitress went the extra mile after we chatted about a book I was reading! Like many of my other bookmarks, Il Tavolo has been sitting on the list for a while. I finally got the chance to check this place out on a Saturday. My cousin made reservations for our party of 5 for 6 pm and it wasn't too crowded yet. It's a very beautiful and chic space and gives Italy vibes, which i loved. To start, we ordered some bruschettas to share, which I didn't think were anything special: Smoked Salmon (with mascarpone cheese topped with olive oil, fresh lemon juice, & capers ) - good but nothing you couldn't make at home Roasted Strawberries (with whipped ricotta drizzled with a rich balsamic glaze) - this reminded me too much of strawberry jam so that's all I tasted. I didn't pick up on any of the salty notes Artichoke Hearts (with garlic, herbs, & bread crumbs topped with shaved parmesan cheese) - this was the best of the bunch but still only okay. I think there were too much breadcrumbs I would say you can skip these an opt for an actual appetizer, like calamari or burrata or something. You can never go wrong with some burrata. We also shared the Watermelon Salad (served with arugula, fresh mint, thin sliced red onions, & ricotta salata crumbles drizzled with a rich balsamic glaze). This isn't something I would normally order. I probably would have went with a boring old Caesar salad, but my husband was actually the one who said he wanted to try it, and I'm really glad we did. The watermelon was so refreshing on a hot summer day and balanced the bitterness of the arugula and saltiness of the balsamic. After this, I became obsessed with the salad and started making it at home and the twist is - my husband is now sick of this salad, lol. For mains, I had the Cheese Sacchetti (aka Beggar Purses - four cheese filled fresh pasta purses served in a pink basil cream sauce with shrimp). I loved the sauce and the pasta. I have a weakness for pink/tomato cream sauce. The shrimp were a good size and cooked perfectly but they tasted like they were from frozen. It was a pretty big portion since I had some leftovers (which we ended up eating later that night). Hubby had the Short Rib Ragu (boneless short ribs simmered in tomato sauce tossed with orecchiette pasta topped with a dollop of lemon basil ricotta & a touch of pesto). I don't love braised meats because of the texture but the lemon basil ricotta was *chef's kiss*. I would be happy just eating that with a nicely toasted piece of bread. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals as well and also had leftovers to bring home. Definitely will be back to check out their other menu items, and some of their cocktails! read more

Loved the atmosphere and the meal! There are tons of restaurants (and Italian restaurants) in Hoboken, but I'd certainly return again. The floral decor outside was such a nice touch. They did such a great job and it looked so classy. The indoor dining space was large and also really nicely decorated. There are two separate rooms. The main room has a bar area with high top seating, and there is a large back dining room with a warm and homey vibe. Think lots of exposed brick, old family photos and long tables that are perfect for big groups. Everything on the menu sounded so good. We started with burrata which was rich and creamy and came with prosciutto. My orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe was really flavorful and came in a huge bowl. I just wish the menu noted it was spicy in the description. There was definitely a kick and I wished it was a bit more mild. Still good nonetheless! My sister's entree stole the show - chicken and shrimp franchise atop a bed of creamy risotto. We both agreed that this was the some of the best risotto we've tried.
