I have been going to San Marcos since prob 1992. At the time I thought it was probably the best Italian Cuisine I had ever had. Referral came from a colleague with an Italian background. Exquisite food, perfectly cooked with service and hospitality to match. Had a birthday dinner there a year ago and felt slightly rushed as another group coming in. Just repeated tonight. Doubt I will dine in again. Waited 20-30 min for requests for drinks and appetizers and then told that we needed to be done by 8 pm. 5:30 reservations. A soft statement that table will need to be turned over at a certain time is one thing but be told abruptly that we needed to be done at 8pm spoiled the ambiance. It is all in the presentation. And the food can not make up for it. read more

We attended last night for my birthday. Our reservation was for 6:00 pm. We arrived a few minutes early but we're seated right away. We waited a few minutes for our friends. We were all seated by 6:00. We ordered a bottle of wine. We were deciding by two different ones. I made the choice, the server brought the other one. I let it go and said that was fine. We were brought bread and butter after about 15 minutes. We ordered our food. My husband and I orderd the Gambieri... shrimp and scallops with angel hair pasta. One of our friends ordered pasta misto and the other friend ordered pasta arrabiata. Then we waited and waited. It took over an hour for seafood and pasta. The servings were very small and inconsistent. My gamblers had two scallops and two shrimp. They were nice sized but only 4 pieces of seafood. My pasta was about twirled to about the size of a small fist. My husband's pasta was the half the size of a small fist and his shrimp was so over cooked that you could not cut it with a knife. We paid $39 each for a very small amount of food. My friends enjoyed their meals, although, small for the price. The never offered anything to me for my birthday or the wait time. They did take off the bill the second glasses of wine that my husband and I ordered that we only drank half of. It took close to two hours for pasta and seafood. Sadly, we felt the whole event was tedious. My coworker has been to San Marco's five times. He said the first four times were 10 out of 10, the most recent time he had gone was a 6 out of 10. This place for me still ranks the #1 spot in Buffalo to eat . I m visiting from out of town and San Marco never disappoints . My companion and I absolutely love this place . The owner comes to each table to make sure everything is perfect . David our server deserves 10 Stars-he's flawless in his service . We were seated in their wine room , which in my opinion, is the best place to sit - outstanding . My Sea Bass was the best I've ever had and I travel all around the world . This place probably has the best Italian dinner for a restaurant in WNY, hands down nothing bad can be said about their food. It's cooked perfect, it's presented perfect and always taste actually how you would want it to be or better. This place is beautifully decorated with a little Italy theme. You would come here For an intimate dinner experience with friends or family. The seating arrangement is decent. You are far enough from the other tables that you don't end up in their conversation. There are a few things that need some help. The owner and wait staff, specifically who I think is the owners daughter, made me and my wife feel un welcomed like we didn't belong or were beneath the social status of this restaurant. To be honest out of all the million restaurants we have eaten at, this place literally is the only establishment to of actually made us feel that way. Now i can understand if I was over thinking it. If it had happened only once.... fine, but no, we have eaten here 5xs and never ordered anything that cost us under 100 dollars, and never left under twenty percent for the tip and every time we left thinking they treated us poorly. The other issue I ran into was the amount of time it took to order, bring out our food, bring us the check and take payment. Literally we end up spending 1.5 - 2 hours with only 30 minutes of which usually spent eating. Now taking into consideration how well the food is made we can over look this to an extent but again this comes back to my first complaint. We watched a larger group sit down after us order after us but have their food brought out at a quicker pace and they were dressed in expensive suit's coincidence? Maybe. Price is a bit steep, but again you pay for what you get. Which in my opinion is deserving. The entree sizes are excellent and quality can't be matched in my opinion. All in all great dining experience. Wear a suit and maybe it would be better . Oh and definitely make a reservation. We came here on Valentine's Day, hoping for a fantastic, fine dining experience. The space is very tastefully done and the service was great. Our waitress was quick to answer any questions and very helpful. The food left some to be desired - the flavor was good, however the portion sizes truly turned me off. When paying good money for a meal, I would prefer to not leave hungry. We ordered the Lobster ravioli for the appetizer and received three raviolis...... My husband ordered the other ravioli dish for his entrée and got 4 this time. I ordered the land and sea option which came with a few shrimp and a small piece of filet, which I found to be on the tougher side.. So the food was exceptional but------! We were seated in the wine cellar room which was freezing. I had just had a shoulder replacement and cold made the pain worse. Of course we mentioned this to our waiter and he moved the heat up,with no results. We asked the busboy and he said it was set on air conditioning and he fixed it and the heat came on. In comes a waitress and turns the air back on while all of the tables are yelling at her to stop it. She ignored all of us. San Marco is an example of how a business can endure years of success as long as they commit to timeless service and impeccable food. I have never and I mean NEVER had a bad meal at San Marco. Last night my partner and I tried both of their appetizer specials: a ravioli stuffed with spicy banana peppers, and a homemade pasta with oxtail ragu. Both dishes were INCREDIBLE. For our mains we ordered what we usually do: the penne all'arrabiata and the pasta with bolognese sauce. Both were served as fresh and flavorfully as we've come to expect. There is not one bad thing I've ever had to say about a meal that's come out while I've dined here. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling wine for the table, and we didn't even finish it because we were too full from our great starters and entrees. Some great things to note about San Marco, beyond the food itself: - We always look forward to being greeted by the kind gentleman (who I believe is the owner). He's always friendly, excited to share the specials, and just start the meal off to a high note. - The bill is handwritten and not printed via a machine. I think it's such a sweet touch. - I think the prices are very fair for the quality of food. San Marco is NOT the place you come to nitpick and order off a price, and in fact I'm not sure they even have the prices on the menu. But I have never received the check and been like "oh this is highway robbery." San Marco is just a good --no, great -- establishment all around! Other things to note: - it's definitely an older clientele. My husband and I are always the youngest people in the restaurant by at least 2 decades. Our night out at San Marco was perfect from beginning to end! The atmosphere is intimate while also unique. We made a reservation ahead of time for a Saturday night and didn't have any wait at arrival. Our party of 7 people were able to order an amazing red wine and appetizers before dinner. Their wine list is long and includes so many different choices. Our waiter helped us with our wine choice and gave us great recommendations. Everybody loved the antipasto and polenta appetizers. Some favorite meals included to osobuco special and the stuffed pepper ravioli special. Nobody had a bad thing to say about our experience here! Ambiance was great as was the food although mine was very salty, but my partners was great. The waitress was not friendly and did not smile once. This was my first eating there and I definitely noticed how differently we were treated. I was asked if I wanted to see a wine menu when others were just given the wine menu. I also noticed that our water glass was different from everyone elses around us. I am very acutely aware of my surroundings and how people are treated, they should really treat everyone the same no matter age, race or appearance. read more

I attended a private event here recently and had a really nice time. We were seated in a side room that seemed to also be their wine cellar or storage room. It gave it a really cool feel. The meal was several courses. First being like a personal appetizer - I got the gnocchi which was delicious. Second was salad - I got the Caesar which was actually very good Third the main course - I got the filet with a mushroom sauce and veggies. The filet itself was overdone but the sauce made up for it Fourth was dessert - I got a lava cake to go. When warmed up at home I found it to have no lava at all? Maybe I did it wrong but I'd pass on the lava cake next time and get a better dessert The waitress was very informative and friendly. The place was super cute. Today was my first time going here and I was very impressed! The restaurant is very nicely decorated and has good ambience. The staff were very friendly and the owner himself seated us and told us about their specials. They gave us some homemade for the table, which was warm and lovely. We had caesar salad to start, which had some fantastic croutons and homemade dressing. I had the Tagliolini Al Tartufo and it was out of this world. I went to Florence recently and this is a dish that's very common there, and they really perfected it. The cream sauce was so light and the tagliolini was cooked to perfection. We opted for a lemon truffle-type dessert which was super light and just the right amount of sweet. I also had a cappuccino which was so good it made me miss Florence. The place is small with several smaller rooms but it creates a warm, home-like yet elequent dining experience. I forgot to make a reservation but was seated right away. We ordered the Ravioli Della Nonna for an appetizer. It was delicious and just the right amount for 2 people to share. The Fusilli Alla Luciana was my main course and I'd definitely order it again. *One of the best Italian meals I have ever had* My friend took me out for my farewell dinner. This is quite a classy place; perfect for a quiet, intimate dinner. They have a very nice wine selection. The ambience is lovely. The service is great. People are usually very nicely dressed. Let's begin with the food- We ordered the Ravioli Della Nonna and they suggested to take the Insalata Arugula salad. Everything was perfectly made. The bread was warm and came with butter and oil. If you do end up going for the Ravioli Della Nonna you will thank me later for tht mushroom sauce. I ordered the Vitello Boscaiola and I can still taste it. What really impressed me is that they custom made something for my friend, who is a vegetarian. I mentioned that the grilled vegetables were good so they brought us an extra plate of veggies (like, seriously!!). Brought our god-daughter, her family and her boyfriend here for her graduation dinner celebration. In one word, it was a HIT! I think the owner greeted and seated us. He was very friendly and funny and congratulated the graduates when we told him what the occasion was for. Server was also very good and was very patient with our indecisiveness, long-winded questions, silliness and just partying attitudes! He should've gotten a bigger tip ;) Stunning selection of good Italian favorites with nice twists. Portions were humongous (most of us took leftovers to go) and more than satisfying. Been to San Marcos a few times now for dinner. I must say both food and service has been of exceptional quality each and every time. Its a little on the pricey side but well worth it for the food being served to you. I think the only down side is the wait time is sometimes extensive. So if you want to be in and out I wouldn't expect for that to happen. And also if you're going later to closing time I recommend to call ahead since we've had instances of finding them closing a little earlier than normal in the past. What to get -- definitely the venison if you're a venison lover. By far my favorite dish I've tried there. Venison was cooked perfectly I believe to a medium rare. The sauce they use is to die for, although it is used on many of the menu items so you could always try it with a different option. It does have a very distinct taste that I've never had elsewhere so to this day I can still in my mind get my tastebuds to remember it.
