First of all, this place is not cheap, therefore their reviews should show 2 $$ not 1. The cheapest option on the menu was the small Mondongo soup for $5, which should have come with rice according to the menu, but my lazy good-for-nothing waitress didn't bring me any. Moving on, at no point did she refill my glass of water or ask me if everything was okay. She was totally unenthusiastic about her job and had another waiter bring me my check instead of bringing it herself. There were only 5 other patrons in the restaurant and 6 waiters. You figure out that equation. (Translation: LAZY) The Mondongo was hard (not chewy as it should be made) and flavorless. It should have come with rice, but I was given none. The morcilla was okay- nothing special. Normally, I wait a bit to write my reviews on a place to give it a 2nd or even 3rd chance, but this place deserves nothing from me. One of the best Sancocho Soup in Miami. I also enjoy their daily specials: Arroz con Pollo is really yummy but the oxtail is off the chain. I am not to crazy about the mondogo and the chicken soup is so so. I usually get take out after work, service is fast , but some times the might be out of the soup or daily special if its late in the day. There is plenty of parking during late afternoon. The empanadas are usually fried to order if you dine in, so they serve the nice and hot. I did not like the buñuelo. Table service can be hit or miss, there are a few young guys that are kind of rude but the other staff is typically nice. read more

This place is great. I have seen Colombian food on some of those travel channel shows. My mom would talk about certain meals when I was a kid. Both would talk about how huge the meals were. Yup, they were right. I have had only two items here. Reason, both items are OUTSTANDING and I just can't get away from ordering my favorites. The Sancocho de Res Con Arroz is delicious. I had driven by this place many many times, but never thought about actually going in and trying it out. Then last Sunday, we were a little hungover from all the Halloween extravaganza and my wife and I agreed that a nice Colombian Sancocho was just what our alcohol beaten bodies were needing. My first surprise was how big the place was, being on one of those little strip malls I was expecting to walk into a little hole in the wall kind of place, but San Pocho was far from that. It was big, it was somewhat spacious and it was packed. I got one of those "I'm late for this party" kind of feelings, I felt like I just discovered something that seemed like it had been discovered for quite some time, just not by me. We ordered Maracuya juice, which to be honest, could've been better, I tasted just a little watered down, but it was OK I guess. So on to the meal. Our waiter was one of the nicest guys you can find, we told him it was our first time there, and immediately he gave us some suggestions on what to order. Be careful though, portions are very generous. We started off with a few empanadas, some of the best I've had in Miami, they were great, my only regret is that they didn't have an "aji sauce" like the one in La Moon. This aji was a little bland to be honest, but the empanadas were amazing. My wife got the Sancocho de Gallina and I got the Bandeja Paisa with Carne Asada. All I can say is OH MY GOD!!! These things were huge!!! The sancocho came in TWO plates, the first one had the actual chicken breasts, with rice; and the second had the actual soup. It was really good. But even better than the sancocho was the Bandeja Paisa. Initially I was afraid to order Carne Asada, as I usually have issues with the aftertaste that I get from most versions of beef. As soon as I took that first bite, I was transported back to my childhood, this was the steak I would eat back in my country, it wasn't fancy, but it tasted just right. I ate until the plate was shiny!!! Overall it was a great experience and we have included another restaurant to our roster. Will definitely be visiting San Pocho again. The service San Pocho gives to it's clients, gives this place an automatic five stars. Only having an hour of lunch really puts one on a time crunch if you have to drive to your location. San Pocho makes this hour less stressful by allowing you to call in before coming into the restaurant to place your order. By the time I arrived, the food was already set on the table. The server was extremely attentive. Checking up on my table often and making sure no one's food was cold and needed to be reheated. For $10, I ordered carne asada, tostones, chicharrones (one of the best I've ever had!) and a side salad. I practically had to be rolled out of there, but it was well worth it. Aside from being a restaurant, there is also a mercadito inside where one can buy authentic Colombian candies, sodas/juices, home decor, etc. This has become my number one place for Colombian food. read more

As a colombian we love aji (spicy homemade sauce) they include one per order. I asked for one more small cup and said they only sell the 2 for 1.50. I came out of the store with a bill for almost 10$ over what I budgeted for. I did not leave tip and one of the supervisors or managers told me that was not very nice. This is a Columbian restaurant in a shopping plaza on 8th street. Let me start off with the meat empanadas, they were D E L I CI O U S!!!!! You eat one and you will want another and another. They are so tasty and crispy on the outside. We also ordered the typical bandeja paisa, we ordered it with carne asada, which was really just a bistec it was tasteless, it didn't have any seasoning like garlic or onions, not even salt. The chicharon was tasty. It was a huge plate and i was able to share it. The prices are reasonable and the service was fast. It was not the best, but it was OK. So I was pretty excited to find this place bc all I wanted was some grilled food. A burger and hotdog exactly. I am American and speak very very little Spanish but I'll always try my best to communicate. The workers didn't seem to be impressed with my efforts and were flat out disrespectful. It had to have been about 5 of them who I overheard mocking my order and accent. The lady who took my order (Shirley or Tracy) was flat out rude. She had an attitude from the beginning to the end of my order. My only guess is that my Spanish wasn't good enough - we did have trouble communicating; however, I was kind and she wasn't. When it's busy, the parking lot is pretty chaotic with drivers creating new spots, parking on sidewalks, and almost backing into each other because they don't want to wait and take turns. However I thought it was so cool how you go past the restaurant and there is a fonda inside (Colombian bar)! It's small however the atmosphere was great and the music made me feel like I was in Colombia or at a Colombian party. The only food I got were empanadas which were good. This restaurant did not disappoint. We asked the server what her favorite dishes were, and we each picked one of the three dishes she named (the third was a steak). My husband got the fried fish, and I got the grilled chicken. The potato with the chicken was cooked perfectly, and the chicken was a generous *whole* breast (both halves). There's way better Colombian food out there. I probably also just had a bad experience with the waitress. It was one of those experiences where you kind of want to tell the waitress "sorry I came ?" Anytime we'd ask for something she just looked angry. I gave her the benefit of the doubt thinking that it just may be her way of being. Zero charisma but then when she brought the check she was all of a sudden so nice and charismatic. I don't like this. I love coming to San Pocho. Start your meal with an empanada and I hope you like spicy because the green sauce on the patty is soooooo good!! My favorite day to come is Wednesday for lunch. The special is a simmered beef with rice and lentil soup. The soup alone is perfect but the beef is always nicely seasoned and tender, no knife needed. Most of my friends enjoy the pollo a la plancha. It comes with rice and beans. They make red beans and IMHO are so much better than the black beans. SO glad that San Pocho was the place for my first real taste of Columbian food! As soon as we rolled up at 11:30 for lunch and found the place to be packed, I knew this was the spot. We were sat at the back where there's ton of little Columbian trinkets and decor for sale. The waitress gave me a little giggle when she saw just exactly how excited I was for this lunchtime dining experience. I wasn't quite sure what to order, so as suggested, I went with the traditional, Bandeja Paisa. For lunch. I was completely stoked when the waitress brought out two GIANT plates of food. Both for meeeee!! Thank goodness I didn't have to go back to the office that day, because I knew at that point that a nap would be needed. After I tasted the food, I just couldn't stop eating everything. Well, at least I tried to eat everything. With the rice-covered-with-a-fried-egg, plantains and beans on one plate; the meat, a giant chicharone and some amazing little corn-tamale-bread-thingie on the other plate, I went to work, finding all sorts of little food bites combos with the food that was laid out before me. I made even more bite combinations as my last run-on sentence's poorly placed commas. But the food was just so delicious that I forget about basic sentence structure at times. I added the hot sauce on the table to just about every bite. The sauce was more flavorful that hot to me, but it gave just the right flavor. Since prior to this the only thing Columbian that I had tried, other than the hot doggies, were the empanadas, I ordered some to go for the house and the roomie. They were plain and simply the best. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to next trip to try some of the other items on the menu. 3.5 As Colombian eateries go, San Pocho is pretty good. I've heard that as they've succeeded and grown, the quality of the food has gone down. I don't know that to be true. I am not an expert in Colombian food but I know what tastes good. And you know what tastes good? Coconut rice. This review is powered (almost solely) on the strength of the goodness of the coconut rice. Perfectly good, just sweet enough and lightly seasoned, you're going to want it with every protein you eat at SP. You will. I am not much of a red meat eater, so I opted for the fried fish. Fish goes well with rice, right? Well, this is a South American eatery not your corner Mickey D's. There was no mounted wall fish singing to me about eating one of his brethren (which reminds me, Easter is coming sorta soon which means that commercial will be back in my life). This was a whole fish: fried, scaly and looking at me with eyes. This ain't my first time at the rodeo, so I dug into the meat, avoided the spikes and gave the eyes to my table mates. I know they're supposed to be good and all but I can't with them. I found the fish to be filling if not very under-seasoned. In fact, it didn't taste like much. I don't know if that's authentic or not, but I was hoping for some sort of flavor experience other than the salty skin of the pescado. I dove in straight to the food part, didn't I? Apologies. SP is large. Come here with a group because they have the space to accommodate. The vibe is a bit cheesy/touristy (with knick knacks in abundance) but since I was one of three non-latinos there on a busy Saturday afternoon, I'm guessing the setting is authentic enough. Start your meal off with green plantains (with picante) and a bucket o' beer. The bucket is a fairly decent value and beer is never a bad choice so... The only drawback is that you won't be sipping on cerveza Colombiana. You'll get Corona and you will like it. You have no choice. read more

I love this place. My mother is Colombian, therefore half of my heart (AKA my stomach) goes out to Colombian food. Its tough to find a GREAT Colombian restaurant in a city of Cubans, but we found it. This restaurant has the authentic Colombian decor with knickknacks everywhere, the Colombian flag posted up, and advertisements for Colombiana and Aguila everywhere you turn. They play at a decent level spanish pop, merengue, and salsa which just adds to the feeling of home for me. The wait staff is very quick and very helpful. Now for the food. *Drools* I always start off with one of their fresh juices, either made with water or milk. I highly recommend the passion fruit. Along with the passion fruit I will usually order an empanada. These are amazing they taste fresh and home made (without all the corn meal clean up) they have a delicious Aji (salsa) at the center of the table which just freshens up the empanadas even more. After having a delicious empanada, I always order the Sancocho. Now I am a fan of soups and stews so this is always a treat for me. But this oxtail soup is truly spectacular it has large chunks of plantain, potato, yuca, corn, and two pieces of oxtail. It is served with a side of rice. This soup is just so tasty and fresh and delicious and did I mention tasty. It is so filling and flavorful! Now I know not everyone loves soup especially in Miami I know it can be too hot for that sometimes (not for me but like I said fan of soup) so I also recommend their Bandeja Paisa. Empanadas to start, yes, the wonderful greasyish ones with meat and amazing aji - then a morcillita (Colombian-style w/ rice, not that pasty stuff u get in Arg or Chile) con well-buttered arepa, if pretending to lose weight try splitting the picada, which also happily contains morcilla - and chorizo, thin slices of meat + crunchy pieces of chicharron. DO order lemonade with Bretania - they blend it with rind and all, oh the delirious pleasure of it. Can't overly recommend the wine selection, would rather go with a chilly Aguila if alcohol is a must. My friend Yolipoo can't stay away from the flan de caramelo, if you've got a sweet tooth - must say the postre de natas is pretty good too. Mr Lalotto's favorite: Mondongo. Ah, and for breakfast (hangover or not): chocolatito caliente con pan de bono, off to La Calera we go, we go. Here's the best - AJIACO ON SATURDAYS - no words. And don't forget they have packs of Rosquitos to keep those caloric Cheetos cravings away. San Pocho's most definitely continues to be the biggest pum for our peso. read more

I took a friend that wanted to try Colombian food. I was so embarrassed; terrible service, the arepas were raw and white, the perico eggs had barely any tomatoes and onions, the plates were leaking on the sides, the "chicharones" crumbled (Too dry) I'm sorry but there are way better places.
