This past Saturday, I threw a NC style Pig Pickin' with a few friends of mine and had a great experience with Sanchez Meat Company. I called a week ago from last Thursday not knowing what to expect or if they would be able to accommodate me, but my fears were quickly assuaged. After asking if I could order a whole pig, they took down my number and called me back two hours later. The person who called me back took down the specifics (80 LB whole pig) and gave me the total right then and there. I asked them if they could hang onto it until last Friday afternoon (it was ready on a Thursday) and if they could butterfly it (i.e. - Split the pig open down the middle of its body symmetrically) for me and they said no problem. The pig also was fresh, so no worries about defrosting Wilbur. I got to Sanchez Meat Company last Friday ready to pick my order and my friend with me went up to the counter and simply said, "We're here for the pig." They immediately took care of us and the price was fantastic ($2.29 per pound, much better than I was expecting, it came to a total of $191 after taxes). They handed us a company card (which is pretty sweet and well done) and had one of their employees help carry Mr. Piggy to my trunk. We brined and kept Mr. Pig on ice for 12 hours before the Pickin' began and everything went perfect. The meat came out super delicious and I couldn't be happier with how everything went. Carne asada preparado. That's what to take to the next outdoor grilling event. If you are able to, I suggest getting it up to 2 days in advance and leaving it to marinate in the fridge to develop a richer flavor. I love the red salsa, and the pico de gallo, but the guacamole could use some doctoring (perhaps adding some pico de gallo?), and the green salsa wasn't my thing. Don't forget to grab a bag of chips - and some other fixings like cheap avocados, cilantro, and whatever you find at a typical carniceria. You're good to go, and your fiesta will be a-rocking. I've been coming here for at least 12 years - and the only time I've been less than happy with the carne was because I bought it right before grilling. I have to admit I'm not a big meat person but my hubs brought home some Carne Asada and Pollo Asado from Carniceria Sanchez and I was SO glad he did! Hubs met the owner of this place at the gym we go to and he told him that he loves his other restaurants (Casa Sanchez and Taqueria Sanchez on Centinela). The owner told him to come by the store so he can give him some meat to try out! What a nice guy. Hubs offered to pay for it but he wouldn't take his money! He also gave us Pico de Gallo and Shrimp Ceviche. I'm totally in love with Ceviche!!! It goes so well with their freshly made tortilla chips! Pico de Gallo has really good flavors too. We let the meat marinate for about 8 hours and fired up the grill. Omg, both beef and chicken were soooooo good!!! I particularly liked the chicken. Carniceria Sanchez rocks!!! Two words: fuck yeah! You know you're at a proper Mexican meat market when you're the only non-Mexican there. Sanchez's marinaded-to-order carne asada and pollo are the best in the area! I've been going there for years, but I called in my order for the first time on Friday night for an early Saturday morning pickup. Of course, when I called, the lady on the other end greeted me in Spanish. Three years of ditching LAUSD Spanish at 3rd period rendered me totally unable to understand anything other than a Taco Bell menu but-- no problem-- the lady quickly switched to English for me. I asked for my usual 4 pounds of carne asada and 4 pounds of pollo (that's Spanish for "beef" and "chicken," my fellow LAUSD rejects) for a 9am pickup. She said OK and was about to hang up when I asked if she wanted my credit card number or, at least, my phone number. She said no, the order will be ready at 9am. I had my doubts. When I got to the store at 9:15am, there were already long lines at the register and the butcher counter. I was expecting to wait even longer for the butchers to quickly prep my order but, no, it was ready to go in two huge aluminum containers. Add some Guerrero tortillas and Sanchez's killer homemade guac, and I was out of there in no time. Fast forward to 1pm. Nine guys ended up splayed out all across the living room after devouring all that meat with some beers. All signs are pointing to a warm Fall. Carne Asada here is expensive (almost $6 per LBS) but the taste and tenderness is out of this world. Get it prepared. In my quest to find the perfect vegan burrito, complete with rice, beans, pico de gallo, and avocado, this place rates as my second best place. As a lazy vegan who loves Mexican food, you'd be surprised how hard it is to find a damn good burrito. They make their own salsa, pico de gallo, use actual tomato sauce for their rice, and season their beans, and nothing is too salty! Thank goodness. I get avocado in every bite of my burrito, unlike some places where they're so damn cheap they give you 2 and a half slithers of avo in the middle of the burrito. This was an interesting experience for two newbies trying to order marinated meat. LOL. My bf and I really enjoyed this place. We were able to order marinated carne asada & marinated chicken. Both tasted great after we grilled it a couple of hours later. Great service too! **P.S. they take credit card! We also tried chorizo tacos, shrimp tacos and an al pastor burrito. Chorizo was a little too salty for me but I enjoyed the shrimp. I must admit I usually don't like beans & rice in my burritos (raised in SD..what do you expect?) but the burrito here definitely surprised me. I really liked it!! Not only was the al pastor good..but the beans & rice didn't overpower the flavor of the meat!! YAY!! All were reasonably priced..I think tacos were $1.50/taco & the burrito was somewhere around $6. The girls working that little window have horrible attitudes and service. When asking questions they reply rudely and body language shows they dislike working there. A friend told me about this place and assured me they had the best chicken and asada. I figured this was not the real deal but opted to give it a try. I began to change my mind when I see this place. It is a true Mexican caniceria (meat market in gringospeak). I walk in and there is barley enough room to move around. There are no less than 5 guys preparing carne asada behind the counter. The make it fresh here. A lady next to me clearly does not know al pastor from asada. She tries to describe the "wonderful" meat she had at a party until the butcher tells her it is called asada. She clearly is feeling out of her element but she orders a heaping pile of it, hops into a Mercedes with it and drives off. Thankfully, I work close enough to here so I can pick up my asada whenever needed. They make awesome pollo as well, pounded out to about 1/4 inch thin. Be sure you buy your meat a day in advance, you want to let it marinate overnight. Also, they have killer pico de gallo (salsa) and the good brand of corn tortillas to go with your meats. Having searched high and low, this is the best place I can find for asada. Highly recommended! read more

I have no idea what you Westsiders are globbing over. This is not the best Carniceria's in Los Angeles. In fact its by far the most overpriced and most dissapointing Carnecerias in all of the Westside! Take from someone who grew up in East Los Angeles moved to the Westside (Mar Vista) and moved out a few years ago. When I tried this place the meat was so thinly sliced when grilled would basically shrivel. Carne Asada is supposed to be Flank Steak or Ranchera in Spanish. This place sells all of you what is know as Chuck (diesmillo) which for Asada is not good. The meat is so red with the dye they use to marinate the meat basically looks alien like. At 5.99 per pound (over priced!) you would think they are selling you a rib eye steak!! I now live in the San Gabriel Valley and I can find Carne Asada (Ranchera) for $3.99 a pound (King Ranch Market) in Covina . Let me tell you this place is much better than Sanchez which price gauge's most of you on the West Side! The Salsas are not that good at Sanchez also. BTW not rocket science when it comes to making a simple Pico de Gallo to go with the Asada! There is another place on the Westside that has halfway Decent Carne Para Asar (True Name) It's called the Venice Meat Market on Venice Blvd by Centinela Ave. Meat costs $5.29 Still High but better quality. Overall the Best Carne Asada's are still in East Los Angeles (Various Markets) South Central (El Tapatio) Baja Ranch (formerly King) Covina - BTW sometimes you can even get the Marinated Asada for $2.99 on Thursdays at Baja Ranch!! And it is lightly seasoned instead of the overdrowned marinade that some carnicerias use to hide they're Mystery meat! Take that Crappy Sanchez! If I could rate this place -5 I would. I use to always buy the ranchera and costillas from this spot back in the day but the quality of the meat just kept getting worse. Until eventually I started looking elsewhere for my carne asada needs. I haven't been back to purchase meat from this spot in years until this past weekend for Mother's Day. The spot that I go to now was completely sold out. They have two locations and both were out of meat. So I didn't have many choices being that it was last minute. So I gave the old neighborhood spot another shot. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I was with the quality of the meat. The costillas were over seasoned, salty, and the meat was chewy! The chicken wasn't any better. It was so bad that I was too ashamed to serve it. My guests being the class act that they were made the best of it. However, the costillas were so bad that they weren't edible. We had to throw away $90 of meat in the trash. It's obvious that this place does not care about the quality of their products. They have gotten rich from cashing the checks of all the landscapers and hard working raza that live in the area. Our community deserves better. Stop burning your own people!! If you want to go to a real carniceria and get quality meat that you can be proud to serve to family and loved ones then take a little drive to South Gate or Bellflower. You haven't lived until you've enthusiastically squeezed the spicy, crumbly goodness out of a length of casing, and with hands stained red prepared and enjoyed a Chorizo jalapeno milkshake. They cook their meals fresh to order and have an amazing menu. They are VERY flexible and accommodating when it comes to specialized orders for little to no extra charge. Seriously, if you want 3 different meats in your breakfast burrito for no extra charge, you've got it! So much to choose from. Rolled up in my sky blue Prius. Me and my work buddy, Craig, are the only 2 gringos out of 25 people waiting for tacos. You know this is the real deal, not some dirty sanchez. The tacos are $1.35 a piece. I would highly recommend the carnitas, chiccarones and carne asada tacos with everything. Their home made hot sauce is really good and has a nice kick. If you're getting the marinated meat try all of their selections. The carne asada is as good as you can get especially for the price. Definitely let it marinate overnight and ask them to marinate 2 pounds at a time. If you get too much meat they don't get the marination thoroughly incorporated as I've learned. Tired of all the over commercialized McButchers nearby; I went searching for a local butcher shop, and discovered the Sanchez Meat Co. It's a simple, no frills, old school carniceria. The Basics: -it's a small, unassuming shop, located on the corner of a busy street (can be missed easily) - This is a full service shop offering a descent variety of meats (unprocessed and cooked) and an assortment of basic groceries and produce. The shop doubles as a take-out restaurant (I'm only reviewing the shop) -it's located in a Hispanic community, and some of the staff speak only Spanish. You might have to bust out the "Spanglish". The shop is noticeably cleaner and offers better quality meat than most local carnicerias. The staff is efficient and helpful, offering to quarter the chicken that I purchased. There is nothing fancy about this place- you won't find any foie gras or aged prosciutto here. What you will find is all the hard to find ethnic favorites they don't offer at the local super market: Crispy chicharones, tripe, thin cut spare rips, and some beautiful ox tail. read more

We purchase asada from the Sanchez Meat Co. every year for our annual Cinco de Mayo party. We always order it "prepared" and happily pay the additional price per pound to do so. It may not be the cheapest carne asada in the area but it is always the most favorably complimented. As soon as the freshly grilled carne asada comes off the grill and goes into a party guest's taco, the guest is eagerly hoping to get more. We have never been able to order enough of the stuff, despite increasing the poundage ordered every year. Sometimes I will stop by and order the tacos that are sold at a window just off the entrance to the market. The tacos are delicious, large, and cheap. Also, the salsa that comes with the tacos is excellent and the onions and cilantro are fresh and plentiful. It is a great place. read more

The service is good, always have been! But their management, how they are always switching things up is ridiculous! My fiancé always used to go there to cash his check, but all of a sudden they say they don't recognize him so they can't do it! That's basically refusing service! That is bullshit! The signs as you walk I say the have a id and a check ready! Not that she needs to recognize his face! She doesn't remember him when he used to come in all the time! They lost our service! BEST SOPES EVER! Okay, so I lived across the street, and at the time was consuming massive quantities of malt liquor, BUT the food is consistent and good. Carniceria Sanchez is a full on OG butcher operation. The boys in the back prep more styles of meat than you can fathom. And the folks who work there are as sweet and helpful as can be. The best thing about this place is that they not only are a market, but have a food window (accessable from outside) which serves all their high quality meats in dishes from good ol' tacos and burritos to sopes and sandwiches. Keep an eye out for their specials - I had a bowl of beef soup here that knocked my socks off. And at $1.35 / taco, you'll have plenty of cash for whatever awaits you next. I, however, STRONGLY advise you to try the carnitas sopes. HOLY CRAP! Two of these bad boys leave me stuffed. They serve a la carte items with a heap of tortilla chips and KICK ASS salsa, and though I've never had one, they do offer plates that come with rice and beans. The Food: Bought about 8lbs of flap meat which they marinated on the spot for me. Cost was about $50 (5.50/lb) but fed about 15 hungry people. My boyfriend swears by this place and sent me to pick up dinner last night. It takes a few times of driving by to realize it's there but when you do, enter Mexican heaven! I picked up 3 pounds of carne asada, queso fresco, corn torillas, and rice and beans .... enough to feed an army all for under 35$. So that's a great deal, but what makes this place so amazing? When you arrive, it's clean but fast paced so you know the meat isn't sitting there for days and being recycled in a taco. The left, front part of the store is a walk up stand which serves the classics. The door to the right is the actual market. It's tiny, but efficient providing an two isles of groceries, a great chili selection in produce, fresh corn tortillas (if you ask for flour you shouldn't be allowed to go here) and a beautiful counter of fresh cut meats where the cooks are literally seasoning and butchering your carne asada. Salsa, queso fresco, and beans and rice are available as well. It's not fancy, but when you have good ingredients they speak for themselves. Enjoy! read more

If you are looking for a nice piece of steak to bbq then go somewhere else, the meat here is flat perfect for tacos or any mexican dish. Yes, not only is the carne asada preparada the best in town, but they are also incredibly friendly and helpful. You can call ahead and order it, if you'd like to have it for tonight's dinner. However, it's best if it's marinaded in the fridge for a day. I even froze it once for a few days - it kept just fine. They ALSO have some of the best red salsa around and incredibly, they offer a wide variety of the famed El Yucateco habanero sauces, which heretefore (too fancy a word for Yelp?) I could only find at Smart & Final (and they only have one variety). Also, it's not cash only - they will take a debit card. Just a wonderful place all around. read more
