I was debating whether to write a review or keep this place secret but it is my new go to place for meat on the west side. I've been several times now, once for pork shanks to braise (try even finding those anywhere else, good luck) that were amazingly meaty and delicious. The butcher walked out of the fridge holding a huge pig leg and asked "where do you want me to make the cuts". I also picked two fantastic 1lb rib eye steaks for about 10 bucks. Not only is their meat good but their prices are amazing and a fraction of what the Whole Foods right next door to me charges. Well worth the drive. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. This is THE one and only place where I purchase Carne Asada for grilling at home. There are tons of other carnicerias all over L.A. but this place is the best for so many reasons. First of all the quality of the meat cannot be beat. HA! Beat and meat in the same sentence and its not a joke. HA! Seriously, though - the guys that work here are the best butchers ever. The meat is obviously so fresh and they cut it up so skillfully and quickly that its amazing to watch. The kitcheny/butchery area is always spotlessly clean. The display case full of different cuts of meat also looks really clean, well organized, well stocked and like the meat moves quickly and is constantly being restocked. If you need to make a barbeque happen quickly, seamlessly and deliciously, Sanchez maket is a no-brainer. People will think you are so knowlegable and cool when they taste this meat. I swear. Second of all, they season the meat better than any other carneceria I've ever been to. A lot of other places let the meat sit and marinate in a liquidy bath with spices, seasonings and onions and peppers, and fish it out with tongs or whatever to weigh it for you. Not ok for the following reasons - seems like a great place for bacteria to live and grow, and because the weight of the liquid adds to the price of what you buy. Sanchez seasons the meat before your eyes, carefully layering seasonings, green onions and white onions and layers of the thinly sliced ranchera meat. Pop it in your fridge at home for as long as you want and its ready to go, instant marinated deliciousness. This market is also a great cultural hot spot. All the people that work here are obviously loyal to their Mexican heritage and culture and support that through their work here. I'm white and I dont speak Spanish but the employees here are always super super helpful when I look confused or inquisitive about something. They stock a lot of specialty Mexican products that cant be found in mainstream grocery stores. Lastly, the taqueria on the side of the market is also absolutely delicious. Everything is cooked on sight, and also super fresh. Genuinely authentic Mexican cuisine at its finest! read more

I have wet dreams about the marinated carne asada we get here and grill. Make sure you cook it long enough to get all the flavor. I'd also recommend letting this hang out for a few hours to really get it nice and flavorful. Just don't try to park in the parking lot nearby, the attendant will freak out on you. read more

I must have went during an off-time because there was no line and parking was available. I drove all the way down here in search of the perfect pre-seasoned carne asada. Unfortunately, the search continues. I drove down here because of the rave reviews, despite the fact it is quite out of my way, but made an adventure out of it, enjoying the sights along the way. I pull up and find a parking spot on the adjacent side street and head in. The area seems OK during the day but not necessarily somewhere I'd like to be hanging around at night. The front of the market has a prepared food window where they cook some of the meats they have available for you, lots of people were crowded around it, and the reviews are quite good on here, so I imagine it's quite good but I still haven't tried it. I enter the market and it is small but has a legit, carniceria vibe, it is really what I imagined one being like. The aisles are stocked with import Mexican goods that you can't find at your normal American chain supermarkets. The meat section is vast and the prices are low, it is, if I remember, about $7/lb for marinated flank meat (carne asada). I watched the guy prepare it for me, no problem, and got quite excited anticipating the flavor as he worked away adding seasoning, etc. He even threw in onions and cilantro and by the end it was all looking quite legit as he wrapped it tin foil and plastic wrap. I paid about $17 for 2.5lbs of marinated flank steak... not bad at all. I get home and leave it marinating for about five hours before throwing it on the charcoal grill. I must say, while I was happy with the taste, I wasn't super impressed and the meat lacked a certain juiciness, it had an over-seasoned unique taste that just simply wasn't what I was expecting. I've tasted much better asada preperada at some of the gringo markets, let me tell ya! So, the search continues. Be that as it may, I would definitely return to this market to get import Mexican foods that I wouldn't be able to find anywhere else and hey, the prices are good, so one can't complain too much. read more

This review is only for the carniceria, not the "taco window". They have the best marinated Carne Asada on this side of town. Call ahead to order so you don't have to wait for it, especially around holidays and summer weekends. I wish they had more options for the veggie aisle and that the items were competitively priced. I usually find myself having to make another spot to get the fixins for guacamole due to their prices and quality of the produce. read more

Yes, there are a couple affiliated Sanchez taquerias nearby, but this little walk-up window outside the meat market serves up fresh, tasty tacos of several varieties--and way cheap, too. Two or three, along with the chips and muy caliente salsa should fill you up for lunch (they close early, if I recall correctly, so forget getting a late dinner here). read more

Best place on the westside to get meat to make awesome "carne asada". Get it "preparada" (already marinated) and all you have to do is throw it on the grill. You can also get "pollo preparado" (marinated chicken breast thinly sliced) as well as fresh salsa, guacamole, chips, chicharrones, carnitas, etc. There is a line out the door on 4th of July so it's best if you call ahead the night before or the morning of to pre order. Sure parking can be a challenge, but it's worth it for their quality and prices. read more

First time and last time here! I ordered a burrito specifically told them it's for the road so please don't wet my burrito and add lettuce and cheese inside. After almost 20 minutes I got a dry burrito with melted cheese on top with NO lettuce & No Flavor. I was Very Very disappointed I trashed my burrito and had lunch elsewhere. I go here to buy cuts that chain groceries don't sell. For instance, they have pork necks and pig feet. I use the pork neck to make stock, and it's only 1.79 per pound. They also have a tacqueria attached to the store, but I haven't tried it yet. read more

this is a great market. i had a hard time finding dried hominy, but they carry it -- two different varieties, no less. and, to boot, in talking with the folks working there about preparation methods, they gave me some really useful advice. they're friendly, the food is fresh, and the asada tacos are delish. read more
