After spending a month away from San Diego now, I think I've finally hit on a place that will cater to the occasional cravings I get for burritos from a "hole-in-the-wall-Mexican-joint". The place is your classic order-at-the-counter and take your number to the table kinda place. No tex-mex style foods nor any fancy foods - just your standard burritos, tortas and tacos. Mind you, this isn't completely a hole in the wall restaurant, nor does it completely stand up to some of the (Al/Ro/Ali)-berto's restaurants in San Diego, but it does the trick. The only issue I had with the place was that it was significantly slower than most Mexican taquerias I've been to in Southern California (about a 10 to 15 minute wait). It was mother's day and this So Cal girl was craving a good taco or burrito that I could take home to sit outside and enjoy. What I got were some sub-par tacos and a burrito that was HUGE but not very good. Nothing special about this place, I tried the chicken, carne asada and fish tacos and a bit of my hubby's chicken burrito - all were just OK. I'd rather have made something myself personally. :( They don't sell chips which I thought was lame and their salsa is just glorified hot sauce but lacks flavor (if that is possible). I finally made it back to check out the good food at sanchez. The place wasn't exactly packed like last time, but they expanded into the other part of the building and did a remodel. I ordered a tamale (pork) and a sope (chicken). They were both good and cost me less than $5. I also picked up an impanada at the new bakery. They do make their own tortillas and tamales too. The only problem i have with this place is that they use shredded cabbage instead of shredded lettuce in some things. Next time i will ask them to leave it out. read more

I was as skeptical as I always am about mexican restaurants, but given the good reviews I read I gave it a shot and WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! IT gets five stars for the value, the portion sizes, the green sauce, the authenticity, and the lack of overdone faux Mexican decor on the walls. Went with the safe choice of a chorizo burrito - $5.75, which is indeed the size of a man's forearm. It was a little light on the cilantro and onion but the AMAZING green and red hot sauces (accesible in the form of squeeze bottles at each table) totally made up for any differences in preferance for such flavors. Perfect amounts of rice, beans and cabbage in the burrito otherwise, and, yes, I did splurge and get a side of avacado (about 1/4 to a third of an avacado) for $0.80, and it was perfectly ripe. Next time I'd love to be more brave and try their whole grilled talapia or their chicken mole. read more

This is authentic Mexican Food. Street Tacos, Carnitas, Carne Asada, Sopes, great Tostadas. They use white cheese! The tortillas are home made. The prices are very inexpensive, except the Margaritas! Love this place. I have been back 4 times after the first time... in about a month! My friends also love it. They also have a bakery with cakes, breads, etc. There is plenty of seating and now they have expanded to an outdoor patio. The staff is friendly, don't speak the best English, but are super helpful! They serve all kinds of beverages and beer.No cocktails. The also have Margaritas, however, they take forever to make and the don't have much alcohol in them. If they were smart, they'd have a happy hour! The lunch hour gets a little crowded. Really authentic if you've been to Mexico! The real deal! read more

I'm originally from Southern California and anywhere I travel, I am on the lookout for a really good, basic burrito that tastes like someone's abuela has made it for me. I am thrilled to have stumbled upon Sanchez Taqueria. OMG. I have been twice in 3 days. Last time in, we tried the 4 taco dish with 4 different meats. Normally I ONLY order a basic burrito everywhere but I'm SO glad I branched out a little bit. The spice pork crispy tacos are to DIE for. The bakery looks amazing too, btw. I was too full to partake but there were so many families in on a Saturday, piling up cafeteria-style trays with gorgeous looking Mexican pastries. The baked goods look super fresh and they're in a very clean glass case. (I say this because I grew up eating Mexican treats out of shopping carts in downtown LA. I'll still do it but this looked so much more palatable). In short, if you want fancy fusion latin food- no. If you're hankering for TexMex- I don't think so. If you want some really good, basic Mexican food that you can imagine your abuela serving you, Sanchez Taqueria is muy delicioso. I'm so happy I found it! read more

Picked up a couple burritos and a chicken quesadilla for dinner and it did not disappoint. I would say that this place has about as close to southern California burritos as you can get in the Portland metro area which was awesome! Decided to come in here after a terrible experience next door at Tigard Vision World. I was not disappointed. Their chorizo breakfast burrito was exactly what I needed to brighten a crappy morning. It was so large and packed with rice, beans, sausage, and potatoes that it fed my husband and me for breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack (granted we're small people). The red and green sauces were nice and spicy but might be too much for the spice inhibited. I'm definitely not going back to Tigard Vision World, but I will being making the trip for more burrito deliciousness. read more

Take-out for two was really disappointing. The taco, enchilada and quesadilla shells were heavy, doughy and lacking flavor. The carnitas were overcooked and actually burnt black in places. The sour cream was flavorless. A very small amount of decent salsa wasn't enough for even one person, let alone two. My co-workers brought over some take out from this restaurant and, have to admit, the food was pretty good. So the next day one of my buddies and I decided to dine in here. Unfortunately, sad to say that the customer service I received here was terrible. I'm here on a work trip from out of state, so wasn't familiar with how this restaurant functions. Looks like you have to places your order at the counter first, then you find your own seating. I asked the young lady at the counter if the served Marlin(fish)tacos, she said no, I then asked if the served tacos Governador(shrimp), again she said no. She then asked where I was from, I responded, southern California. She then rudely says, Well, you're not in California, you're in Oregon. We don't usually buy our Birthday cakes from Sanchez because the are over priced and we could find better ones else were. Well for the first time in forever we went ahead and got a 3 leches cake here to only find out that it had gone bad. Of course I was the last one to eat some, so I was beyond annoyed that I had fed my family a nasty old cake!! The next day I went back to Sanchez to let them know of the situation and hoping to get a refund! Instead of them apologizing for this they asked why I hadn't brought back the WHOLE CAKE BACK, and that they couldn't do the refund! Like seriously!! Okay I missed the crazy bandwagon when it came to the reviews of this place. I chose this location based on the yelp reviews. The parking lot was kinda full so it seemed like a quick go to for a lunch on the drive home from Portland. Horrible! Just Horrible. From the time it took to give our order, receive our order, to the moment it hit my stomach.just bad. I ordered three beef tacos and a tamale. My drink of choice was horchata which appeared to be house made. It was more simple syrup than authentic. The beef in my taco was grisly for the most part and let's not sugar coat it..... DRY AS JERKY. All I have to say is... it's horrible when someone abandons the plates after the first few bites. I left that restaurant feeling like I just had a tracheotomy. Ouch! This place has changed so much. am a bit disappointed. I used to come here very often when I lived in the area, I had not eaten here for over a year, I decided to go together with a friend since we were driving in the area. Well, first we waited in line for half hour, and many other people who came after us, were allowed to go before us, in the line, just because ...it seemed, they were regular clients, and knew each other. Anyway, eventually came our turn and we ordered a number of assorted tacos, I noticed immediately something was different, first they do not have any mild salsa, any longer, it was extremely hot, both he green salsa or the red one. The taco Al Pastor here used to be delicious, instead this one was very plain and tasted like boiled chicken, kind of tasteless. The Carne Asada also used to be the best, but I was disappointed, it was ground beef and not steak and tasted like boiled beef, not grilled. I am not sure if it is because it was the weekend and they were very busy, the place was extra crowded and maybe the food was not fresh. But definitely is not the same quality as it used to be, maybe the owner has changed or their cooks.Parking is easy though, I will give it another chance and try it one more time, see if maybe next time I will have a better luck!! read more

Immediately upon walking in I was kind of confused on how to order or where to even begin. Thank you yelp or posting a menu. I have no idea where you found these prices, maybe I'm stupid. I ended up going with two carne asada tacos and a carne asada torta. I am very used to homestyle authentic Mexican food as my dad is a cook and many of his meals were Hispanic dishes. Honestly the food here is definitely more cart style which in my opinion is as close to authentic as you will get in the Tigard area. Still the food was great and the crowd seemed to be enjoying the food as well. The tacos are $1.99 and are decently sized. A torta is $6.50 and is also a filler. I'm just a hungry guy sometimes so I get both. I'll give it 4 stars for the food/bakery(very good churros).
