A nice and well appointed coffee shop in downtown Tigard. The location is convenient to other shops in the same area... and offers several nice options for a stroll with a beverage in hand. The atmosphere is nice but not particularly modern. There are some adjacent areas to the main counter that are quite basic in terms of furniture and decor. Nothing particularly inspiring though. Staff is nice but not overly friendly. The bathroom is locked with a code. Parking is available on the street. Drink prices are a bit high but I like supporting a local business. This is a great addition to the community! I hope they consider adding more comfortable seating and go out of their way to create more inviting spaces in the shop... but overall an above average option for coffee and conversation. read more

I just got my wisdom tooth removed yesterday and they were so kind about how I was talking differently and made my latte with "extra care for a speedy recovery". This coffee shop right in downtown Tigard has some great seating and some delicious coffee. The inside seems fairly quaint upon initial viewing, but doors separate the rooms and there is more seating in well lit rooms upon looking further. The baristas were cordial and were quick with my coffee. I ordered the house coffee which comes in a ceramic mug and allows you 1 free refill while you spend your time at this establishment. The coffee itself was a great temperature, and had a good taste for a drip coffee. Inside, they offer a Symposium branded merch including mugs and stickers, as well as local coffee beans for purchase. The ambiance was very casual and the interior decor has a homie and comforting feel to it. The only caveat I might add to this amazing location, is that the seating itself is slightly uncomfortable as the chairs present are stiff and do not offer much for support. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot for a quick coffee to go while your visiting downtown Tigard, or to sit in and catch up with friends. read more

The coffee is always divine, served exactly as ordered, and all the baked goods I've tried are ones I would happily eat again! I popped in one day to work for a few hours, I appreciate the WiFi, the several rooms and various seating arrangements- this lends for small groups, individuals, and even larger groups. New to working in the area, a beautiful Friday sent me on a mission to find myself a treat. Had heard of symposium so meandered over. Asked for recommendations and was not disappointed! They make their own syrups so I had a small, oat milk, Caramel cinnamon with the cinnamon steamed into the oat milk. Absolutely delicious! Great recommendation and so I asked for a sweet treat for the afternoon idea and again was not disappointed with the gluten-free chocolate chip pumpkin bread. It's like the requirement to work here is having a bad attitude. The reviews here don't seem accurate and honestly feel like they may be getting deliberately deleted by management. The chai I had today was SUPER concentrated, and the bagel was also overly salted. The girl helping at the counter didn't even greet me -- I had to say "hi" twice because she was just standing there staring at me with a blank expression. I was nice throughout the entire interaction, and it reminded me exactly why I don't like coming here. This is now my second bad experience over the years. I've also met the manager (the one who drives the truck), and he ALSO had a horrible attitude, so it seems like that behavior is trickling down to the employees. The whole experience felt very unwelcoming and uncomfortable. It almost felt discriminatory. If I could give 0/5 stars, I would. That's what this place deserves. I'm honestly surprised it's been open this long. If you look at their one star reviews and the responses from the owner then you can see what type of attitude this man has. On the hunt for top places for coffee from a coffee lover! Went to a couple of coffee shops and this marks the first for a 5 star! I got the almond fig latte with oat milk. The bungalow blend is smooth, light and creamy perfect blend for their house made almond fig syrup. My fiancé got the cardamom latte and that one was a light and earthy. McKenzie also added a splash of hazelnut for me and I was very pleased with the pairing!! Will come back to try the chai and boozy coffee drinks! Symposium serves some of the most traditionally well-made coffee I've had in the area. Their chai is very spicy (in a good way), and if you're looking for high-quality, carefully crafted drinks--or even a boozy coffee option--this is definitely the place to go. The food has been consistently good too. The atmosphere is friendly, though I've heard from several friends that they feel it has a bit of a snooty vibe. Personally, I haven't experienced that to a large extent, but I can see where they're coming from. Every time I come to Symposium, I think WOW this place is SO cute. It's warm, open, cozy and everything I'd want in a coffee shop. The staff is always welcoming, friendly and it's always been busy. I finally tried some food and got the avocado toast. I needed food lol. And it didn't disappoint. The toast was so thick and perfectly crunchy but not dry and the avocado was plentiful and fresh. It was VERY good. I did need to use utensils to eat it, and would suggest anyone else who orders it to do so too!!! It's a lot cleaner lol The coffee is always delicious and the staff is clear on which strips are vegan and not. And MOST of the house made syrups are. Delicious again!! The building is a historical site which I loved but outside of the bar, the seating was cheap and not comfy. The tables are too close together for any privacy should you want to read a book because you may be privy to someone's conversation. The pricing was too expensive for me, $20 for a breve and bagel sandwich. I imagine being a downtown privately owned shop it is so. I've visited many coffee shops since moving to the west coast in 2000 and this is not a favorite but running in for a coffee to go may work for me. read more

Went here on a whim with a friend who suggested we go here since they're known for being a coffee shop that also serves whiskey. It was a pleasant experience. The coffee shop itself has a unique interior design (see photos) and lots of seating areas with 2 private rooms. The staff were really friendly and accommodating to our own coffee needs! There is only one lady working there and we had three drinks to order, they don't have soft top and they're out of whipped cream. Just want to add that I had an interaction with a barista that was very off putting recently. Line to the door on a really busy day, I was buying beans & a drink and the person running checkout told me that the $21 bag I was buying was not so good, told me he personally didn't like coffee from that part of the world, asked me what other types of coffee I drink and then made a sweeping statement that beans from Mexico are always ashy (they're not...?) I was confused why he needed to ask me all these questions with a line behind me and put down every answer I had. I don't think he meant to be condescending but it did come off that way & left me with the impression he doesn't really know that much about coffee actually. I did not ask for his opinion in the first place but for some reason he thought I needed it. I would not take a recommendation from him in the future. Anyway, the beans I bought were a really fruity, well-rounded Ethiopia and brewed at home on v60 & chemex has been great. I would buy those beans again. read more
