We are new to the area and were looking for a quick dinner with our family. Sancho's was delicious and arguably faster than Chipotle! The kids loved the smothered burritos (one vegetarian with a green sauce and the other asada). The smothered burritos are gigantic and easily 2 meals for only $10. My husband loved his California burrito and local beer. I tried the tacos--asada, barbacoa and al pastor. They were delicious and authentic. Finally!! The long-awaited restaurant has finally arrived and opened in the lil Gunbarrel neighborhood. This place just opened up, like it's big brother restaurant, located over by Iris Avenue and Valmont, this place does not disappoint! I came here during a break and ordered two simple Asada tacos, which comes on a corn tortilla. I loved the selection that they offer with their salsa bar, the Habanero salsa was great woke my nasal senses up. The staff was very welcoming and patient with me and my indecisiveness. Just a heads up, the staff members are also still in trading and getting used to the newness, so please be patient. Lastly, for Boulder you can't beat the prices. Tasty and Fresh! Sancho's made my taste buds dance. Haha! I really had a good experience. This place is located in a shopping mall. You order at the counter, then they bring the food out to you. There was a bit of a line when we arrived, but fortunately they had paper menus so that you are able to review the menu beforehand. The menu handing on the wall is digital with small letters that are a bit hard to read. The vegetarian and gluten free options were clearly marked. This obviously makes things a bit easier! Our food arrived about 10 minutes after we ordered. My favorite part of the meal was the refried beans! (Odd, I know!)They were sooo tasty. Sancho's offers decent, cheap Mexican food. It's a very casual place in an old strip mall. They have a varied menu with lots of choices. We started with chips, salsa and guacamole. The guacamole was fine, pretty much just avocado, couldn't detect much else. Sancho's has 6 different salsas. I tried them all. The one they serve with chips and salsa was my least favorite. My favorite was one that's smoky (can't recall the name). I put it on all my food, it was so good. I also had a chicken mole gordita (kind of a small quesadilla made with fat corn tortillas) and a taco al pastor. Both were kind of on the greasy side. I wouldn't say it was great mole but I liked the gordita overall. The al pastor was unremarkable. There are a lot of things on the menu that looked good. I'll probably give Sancho's another shot, if nothing else, to eat more of that smoky salsa! read more

This is as close to real Mexican food as you're going to get. I'm originally from Mexico and have been living in San Antonio, TX for the past 35 years and I know what authentic Mexican food is, and it's at Sancho's. I tried a variety of their tacos from carnitas, carne asada, fish, bean & cheese and the surprisingly tasty papa's (potato) taco, they were all tasty. Their homemade salsas are as good as you're going to get with all degrees of spiciness. Don't forget to top off your meal with a delicious margarita or a variety of imported Mexican flavored sodas. Read the great reviews about this place and was excited to try it out during my visit to Boulder. I was really disappointed once I placed the order and got the food at the table. The food was ok. Nothing exciting or over the top as other reviewers have claimed. As a matter of fact, it didn't have much of a flavor! I ordered the Burrito Sancho's and asked if they have Chips and Salsa. They did...but had to buy it! Salsa was weak! so I asked them for a small container or cup to get some more salsas from the their salsa bar, but oh no! They said unfortunately that is only for the "TO GO" orders!!! WHAT??? Place is run down and the ceiling is pretty dirty. Made me wonder about the dirt falling from the ceiling onto my plate! My Mexican friend (immigrated to US a few years ago) tells me that the food is authentic and similar to her mother's home cooking! I couldn't be happier that Sancho's opened up a new location in the Gunbarrel neighborhood of Boulder. They make very flavorful and traditional Mexican food, and easily have the tastiest and best variety for a Taco Tuesday in all of Boulder. Sancho's also serves a few beers on draft along with a house margarita if you are looking to wash down their food with an adult beverage. I personally am a big fan of their California burrito. It's hearty and is packed with perfectly seasoned shredded beef along with some french fries which add a great starchy crunch. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for really delicious and well priced Mexican food. read more

Wow. So this is different. Its in a scary spot by Boulder standards, which I guess is a bit of an oxymoron. But its in the mall where the defunct wal-mart is and there literally was some guy getting arrested right outside the restaurant the night we went. I had a slightly different idea about what the atmosphere might be...I hail from Texas and tex-mex restaurants are all about the atmosphere: they are bright, colorful spaces with free flowing chips, mexican music and of course margaritas (see Chuys in Westminster). This place feels more like a fast food restaurant, with TVs blaring, fast-food tables, (generally unfriendly) counter service and NO MARGARITAS. So to say I felt let down at first would be an understatement, but I have yet to find good mexican food in the Boulder area, and had heard excellent things about Sanchos, so we ordered anyway. We got the gorditas and the green chile chicken enchiladas. I thought gorditas were just a taco bell thing, so color me wrong there. They were pretty good, if a Lot greasy. The enchiladas were also spot on. The chips (which you have to order- the only place I've seen free-flowing chips are chuys) were just mediocre, kind of overly salty, and they have this salsa bar but do not provide cups for it, so thats kind of weird. The salsa you get at the counter is different than the salsa at the salsa bar. Weird, again. Anyway, the food is good and reasonably cheap. Just...know it is what it is. read more

The menu is huge, and we ordered the chips and salsa, plata de al pastor and plata de carnitas. The chips were fresh and crispy and the salsa was unlike any we'd ever had before, but equally delicious! I hate to give a bad review... and I also like to support local businesses. I've had tacos here that were ok. But 2 days ago I ordered a dinner to pick up. It was $13+ for the carne asada. What I got was these thin slices of meat that were hard and dry, impossible to cut. I had to pick it up and tear it with my teeth. Flavorless, dry, chewy meat. I sent a message to them on their website contact form and had no response back. That is how much they care, I guess. I suppose the meat was sliced so thin because it was so cheap and tough. So basically I paid over $13 for some beans and lettuce. The meat was not edible. I hope they get it together and start having better service, higher quality food and make all those craving good mex very happy. read more

Ever since I've tried Sancho's, it has become one of my favorite places to eat! Every dish I've tried has been delicious (better than Efrain's) and authentic. They even have more variety than most other Mexican restaurants because they have been tongue, pork skin, and marinated tilapia. You can get cheap tacos here and try all these different ingredients, or get a full meal, either way you can't go wrong. They are also friendly and often lighten the atmosphere by playing live music, too. It's never crowded either so stop by on a Saturday night no problem! read more

This place is really depressing. The staff couldn't be bothered to care. When I ordered a burrito, he asked what kind of meat I wanted. I asked what my options were. *blank stare* "Any of the taco meats." Thanks, dude- not helpful. Not helpful at all. The food is super overpriced. $9 for a burrito is in line with a sit down restaurant- not fast casual (or slow casual, as the case may be). The plate of fries we ordered for my son was incredibly small (barely a handful) for $3. The chips lacked anything resembling flavor. The meat was overcooked, the rice was mushy, and the tablespoon of guac on the side was pitiful. It's clear all the food comes out of a steam table, and the temp on it needs to be turned up- everything was cold. I love me a good salsa bar, but theirs is a bad salsa bar. The decor is grimy, ugly, and confusing (Tibetan prayer flags- wtf?). I pulled a knife out of the cafeteria-style silverware holder, and it had food chunks stuck to it. So yeah- overpriced, depressing, and kinda gross. This place won't be here long. read more

The challenge is that you really can't read the tv's until you are at the register ready to order. It's an open kitchen of sorts and being able to look behind the curtain, you'd hope for clean. You'd be disappointed... The food was OK and but slightly overpriced. There's plenty of seating with a pleasant atmosphere but the dining room is also not clean. Floors were filthy and the place just didn't feel tidy, clean, or crisp. Given that it just opened, we were hoping for a better addition to the Gunbarrel food options. I tried this Sancho's when it first opened and wasn't impressed and decided to give it another try. It was packed, but I missed the rush. Holy smokes this place is underviewed! As I live nearby, I frequently drive past this plaza and see the Sancho's sign, and wonder what sort of flavor they have to offer. With so many Mexican restaurants in Boulder, it is quite a competitive landscape, so they must be cranking out some delicious bites if they're still holding fort... Indeed, they are. After showing up on a particularly snowy night and still finding a line out the door, we were pretty sure we were in the right place. The menu has just about everything you'd want from a fast casual Mexican restaurant, and perhaps more. I happily ordered a La Cubana Torta, and some Aqua de Jamaica (which I haven't found since I was a kid), for around $10, and was thoroughly satisfied. The bread on the torta was delicious, fresh, and not flaky. The torta itself was loaded with flavor, and was just enough for me to not be able to finish. The atmosphere was essentially Mexican, like something from real Mexican influence, not "Mexican" themed. It was refreshing, and had the effect of transporting me somewhere else. I definitely didn't realize I could get a meal - or deal - like this so close to me. I have to say this place has earned a spot at the top, right next to La Choza. read more
