I always go Here when I'm in town. Some Mexican food places make my stomach upset now and then but this never happens here (and I use a lot of hot salsa). Great flavor in everything. Only room for improvement would be that you have to ask for the salsa containers and they are so tiny. read more

Not the best in Boulder or any other town. Food is pretty bland and uninspired. Service is lackluster. Tried three items plus chips and salsa. Chicken quesadilla was plan and with minimal flavor. Gordita fell flat as well. Torta was disappointing. Chips were broken into very small pieces and not flavorful. If you like good Mexican food, there are many better options. Wow this place is just what I was looking for. I love tacos al pastor and this place has definitely the best ones I could find. I also had tacos de carne asada and I am very pleased with those as well. But what really keeps me coming back is the gorditas ever since I was a kid my mother use to make this all the time and this place has a really good selection of them. I'm yet to try other plates but so far it's great. Not to mention the aguas frescas they make fresh every day the pineapple one is my ultimate favorite. Highly recommended it. read more

We took our first trip to Sancho's after reading the Daily Camera review. The restaurant is a little tricky to find as it's in the back of the plaza at the corner of Iris and 28th but once we arrived, we were very excited to dig into all the delicious, authentic Mexican food and enjoyed our meal very much. The salsa bar is so much fun - many of the salsas are very spicy and absolutely delicious! I also had a delicious gordita with pork and also a chicken taco. Huzzah for these tacos. Corn tortillas are delicious and if not made in house, taste that way. In order of awesomest to least: 1. Al pastor (with a lil sweet pineapple topping) 2. Barbacoa (drenched in meat juice) 3. Asada (looks basic, tastes complex) 4. Pescado (actually fresh and tasty, just not as flavorful as the above, replete with slice of avocado) 5. Pollo (the only one I wouldn't reorder - was kind of bland and stale and whatever) Salsa bar with a very tasty roasted pepper hot sauce and fresh radishes. Mexican cokes. Service is kind. I think this place may have the best Mexican food in boulder. This is my go to spot for legit Mexican food. I really enjoy their al pastor here, I love al pastor but good, legit al pastor is hard to come by around these parts. Thank goodness for Sancho's! I used to live in Southern California for awhile so I was spoiled by the ease of access to having amazing Mexican food. Sancho's really reminds me of a lot of the taco shops you see in San Diego, and their food is a lot like it too, very good food! What an evil temptation, after burning off calories at the 24 Hour Fitness! I'm always like, "Oh, I'll just get a taco"... but a taco is so lonely by itself. And there are tempting varieties. And what's a taco without some of that rice milk with cinnamon (the name escapes me)? Worst of all. Now I know they have these incredible churros that they will fry up JUST FOR YOU... covered in cinnamon sugar, and inside, goopy sweet cheesy stuff... why did I have to find this out? Great service! We really liked the two people who served us. I'm not vegetarian, but still chose the veggie sandwich. It was great! Crunchy fresh panini and fresh veggies with goat cheese. I'll echo what else has been said about this place -- a hole-in-the-wall in a strip mall, but some of the most delicious, authentic, affordable Mexican around. I'm partial to the vegetarian gorditas, Rajas con Queso -- slices of roast poblano peppers and cheese sandwiched between masa cakes and beans, smothered in green chile. I stopped by on a weekday to get some Menudo but they only serve on Saturday and Sundays.. darn! Anyway I ordered an enchiladas and tried a red, a green and a mole sauce on my dish. I don't enjoy giving places three stars but that's really all this meal warranted. Growing up with green chili leads to certain expectations that are rarely met. I had the smothered burrito with the spicy chili and it was pretty average. If anything, it was pretty underwhelming. The chicken was a little bland and the chili had an odd taste to it. My burrito was also missing its guacamole which I didn't really deduct from the overall rating. The taco that I had with this meal was definitely the best part and I'm sure most of their specialties are probably pretty good. I just would recommend the green chili I guess. The positive though, the food is definitely quite filling and the service is very nice. I do wish I enjoyed this place a little more but it is what it is. read more

Ole! This is the Mexican restaurant that Boulder has been missing! After living here for 6 years I've been frustrated with the Mexican offerings. I'm always disappointed by places like Rio where you seem to pay a lot for the atmosphere and the food is bland and underwhelming. Sancho's is AMAZING. Really good flavor and spice (with a salsa bar!) -- the meat is cooked well and the fresh fruit juices are supreme-o. It's an unpretentious but very clean, lovely space. The patio faces a parking lot, but they've made it a nice place to eat by adding flowers and colorful banners-- the view of the flat irons is top notch. Hidden gem! I almost don't want to review it to keep it in obscurity but the food is so damn good everybody needs to know! Yea we have chain Mexican restaurants up here, but since Mamacitas and Juanitas went away there hasn't been that hole in the wall Mexican joint in Boulder that is locals only. Don't let the circa 1979 strip mall fool you, the food is serious and the employees are extremely nice. The menu is extremely diverse and the ingredients fresh; there are a few things I don't mess around with and Mexican food is one of them. By far the BEST Mexican restaurant in town; I recommend the smothered Sancho burrito and a chicharron gorditas... mmmmmmmmmmm. read more

Always on a quest to find great Mexican food while on the mainland, I came across this on yelp and went to try it. Their chips were really good and I love that that their selection of salsa consisted of 1 mild, 3 hot and 1 extremely hot! 3 of them really did make me sweat. The salsa that came with the chips was mild. I got the Burrito Don Sancho which was good. Not as good as I've had, but better than most. Hubby got the Smothered Sancho Burrito which I liked more. My son got the chicken strips on the kids menu and loved it. He also liked the Flan but it was too hard for me. I like my flan smooth and soft. All in all, I liked it! Food was less than ok...staff is very unfriendly and got my order wrong on 2 separate visits. The order taker claimed it was "my fault" but I DONT THINK SO. Maybe it was the lack of listening or a language barrier.. Everything about this place is very bland and I became ill after eating there both times. It almost seems like they don't want to stay in business because their social skills are that of a dead possum. As far as the food ... overpriced and just not good. BK is right around the corner...it's cheap and it doesn't pretend to be something it's not! Will not go back ... I'm sure this place will have a "for rent" sign on it very soon! read more

Absolutely fantastic food! We have tried several different things now (tacos!, gorditas!, tamales!) and they are all EXCELLENT! It's a lovely authentic taste! They have a nice little salsa bar with amazing fresh salsas too. The atmosphere is nothing fancy, but they make up for any shortcomings in the food. I went to Sancho's yesterday with a hungry friend. I ordered the barbacoa tacos and their summer special the elote. I haven't had a Mexican style corn on the cob in several years and they served it just how I remembered. My friend ordered chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and steak quesadilla which was devoured completely. Overall I was impressed with the quality of food and drinks. They have a nice selection of agua fresca including horchata all in the traditional glass jugs. They have a large cooler with Juaritos and Mexican cokes the ones with real sugar. And although they don't make fresh sopaipillas they do make fresh churros. Overall the staff was friendly, although not so attentive. The restaurant is clean, has a nice collection of Dia de Los Muertos idols on the north wall, air conditioning inside and a nice patio outside. I got hungry again just making this post. read more
