You can't miss Centro Mexican Kitchen when on Pearl Street. The bright yellow exterior draws you in! In a sea of dining options, Centro makes its case for your business. We all left full and happy after our dinner and drinks! Entertaining some colleagues from out of town, I had a hunch this place would check the boxes. Mexican is always a crowd pleaser, and ultimately we were in tune with the positive vibes Centro was giving us. For the table, margaritas, queso, and trio of salsas. Two of the three salsas were superb, they were spicy and flavorful. Queso was creamy, pro move by providing flour tortillas with these. In a day in age where finding a deal is hard to come by, one of my new favorite deals is Centro's margarita pitcher. $60 for a pitcher of margs and the four of us each had two margs a piece. $7.50 a drink? SCORE!!! For my entrée, I went with the birria burrito. This behemoth was a brick on a plate, they definitely give you a hearty portion for $25. Did I love it? Unfortunately not, but it still had its highlights. I would order something else during my next visit! Service was extremely friendly, albeit slow at times. We had a booth inside, but if you're lucky to snag a spot on the patio do it! Overall, a nice time was had. I'd happily return to Centro for dinner and drinks!

Nice spot in Boulder and perfect for what we needed! Lively enough, good drinks (pitcher of spicy margs for the table), and bright, colorful vibes. It was a Friday night so we were happy to get in at all and be seated quickly. While we dined inside, their patio looked awesome too. Service was friendly, a tiny bit slow, exacerbated by how hungry I was. But nothing to worry about there as we got chips and queso and their salsa trio to start which were all delicious. If you're between those two, get the salsas. The green one in particular was delicious. The spicy margs were pretty good, not that spicy, but good. The tajin rim option was a nice touch. I got the chicken enchiladas and they were fine. I was hoping for a little more flavor with the 'Christmas style' red and green chiles.. it was more like a mole sauce and green chiles? I would go green chiles only next time. Actually the best part of the whole plate was their pinto beans that were very flavorful and spicy as well. I got all the spicy things, I'm realizing. All told, nice spot in Boulder that I enjoyed!

Sometimes I just want normal Mexican food. I ordered birria tacos thinking they would be put together and grilled like they normally are, but I got "deconstructed" tacos... just meat, cabbage, and rice, with tortillas on the side. I guess you need to order the à la carte "quesabirria" tacos to get that. It was underwhelming for $19

My friends and I were in town and after a long day of travel we decided to explore and find somewhere to eat and damn did this place hit the spot! Very vibey in terms of its location, decor, and lively atmosphere. The four of us were sat inside at a big booth (though the patio looked delightful so maybe next time). We were all starving to put an immediate order in for the salsa flight and queso. Loved all of the above. We also put in a big pitcher of their house marg, spicy version. I thought those to be good too - not overly sweet. As for entres, the steak tacos were incredible. I was really impressed with the cut and cook of the steak. Prepared so well. And let me tell you they don't short you one portions. The taco orders come with griddled tortillas, long grain rice, cabbage escabeche, and salsa. I left full and very satisfied.

We came here after wandering around the streets of Boulder looking for a good restaurant for dinner. We got the tuna crudo tacos and the shrimp tacos. I loved the tuna crudo tacos - it was raw tuna and it was really good. The shrimp tacos came in a more DIY style. We also got the elote and a blood orange crème brulee. Overall, the food was really great. We sat outdoors and it was a nice space.

Stopped by two days in a row! Service food and drinks on point! Drew and Devlin are amazing bartenders! Drew is why we came back

We went on National Tequila Day because it was also Dining out for Ukraine day! We went for happy hour and immediately ordered a pint house margarita which was fabulous! Fresh with tequila, triple sec fresh lime and simple syrup. Not too sweet and not a sweet and sour mix!! This is how I make margaritas at home. Not knowing that the happy hour potato and quesa birria tacos came with 2 to an order, my husband and I both ordered them. 4 tacos a piece? What??? For 5 and 8 dollars? Unheard of in Boulder. And . . . They were both amazing! The potato taco had crispy on the outside tender on the inside potatoes with grilled onion, rajas, cotija cheese, corn and crispy potato straws. Quesa birria tacos are one of my favorite foods and I've had some fabulous ones and some dry and flavorless ones. These were tender, melt-in-your mouth joy!! Our server, Luke was friendly and he led in us regularly without being annoying. I felt cared for. We love the patio (and the inside as well) and tonight was a perfect patio night. The music is fun and the patio is lined with flowers. A perfect happy hour and leftovers for breakfast!! A favorite spot of ours in Boulder and we will be back soon to find out about the AGM's trip to Japan! Love this place!

We have been here a few times when in Boulder. Most recently for brunch on Father's Day. No wait! Hubs (guest of honor) had the house marg and said it was incredible! I had the avocado toast Benedict which was fantastic! Loved the poblano hollandaise and their bodega sauce. Hubs had the Huevos Rancheros- which is usually my go-to, and that was tasty as well. Very saucy which is always important! We also got chips and salsa because- well, we love to nosh! Our little didn't care for the refried beans- pretty heavy on the oregano- but she ate the quesadilla. Service was attentive and friendly. We will be back!

Are the patio heaters strong enough for people to eat outside on a 20-30 degree January evening? I'm not comfortable eating indoors with Omicron being so easily transmissible.

Even better, there were seats available at the chef's counter. I'm sure the dinner hour is a more intense experience, but we walked into a peaceful, beautiful space at 2:15pm. There were a few people in the bar, otherwise the restaurant was empty except for our two seats at the chef's counter with a great view of the kitchen. It felt like the restaurant was closed and just serving the two of us. Cozobi is the Zapotec god of maize and agriculture which is certainly appropriate for a restaurant focused on authentic masa. Outside there's a long, secluded patio. You enter to the lobby of an office building, then go left into Cozobi. There's an elegant bar in front, the dining room in the middle, then the comfortable chef's counter and kitchen in the rear. We started with two items from the happy hour menu: Taco Dorado with wild mushrooms, queso Chihuahua, and guacachile (a green sauce made from chilis and onions) and Ceviche de Huachinango with red snapper and smashed avocado served tostada-style on an authentic tortilla. The mushroom taco was amazingly savory with absolutely delicious flavors that melded perfectly. The ceviche was good, but I'm not a fan of Chef Curiel's extremely hard tortillas. There were too many small bits on the tostada to pick it up without everything falling off and it was impossible to cut. We finally scraped off the ceviche and then broke up the tortilla to eat separately. Next we went to the dinner menu with the Callo de Hacha al las Brasas, Fall River scallops, serrano ponzu, tomato butter, and chives. I've had this before and it was as beautiful and delicious as ever. The small scallops were cooked perfectly. The Taco de Pastor came with Sakura pork collar, recaudo rojo (a tomato, onion, and garlic sauce), charred pineapple, and salsa verde cruda (a tomatillo sauce). Again, beautiful to look at and very savory, tender, and delicious. Finally we went for the Huachinango a la Veracruzana, Baja red snapper in an olive tomato broth with roasted lemon rice. OMG, the broth was amazing. A perfectly cooked piece of fish with wonderful flavors and a delightful dish of rice to accompany the fish. Cozobi offers dessert and we finished with a picture-perfect tres leches cake, swimming in a luscious sauce. I just love trying lots of different tastes and this menu is well-organized to provide that. Six dishes were the perfect amount of food and we left very satisfied. The very charming Asia provided great service while also busy in the kitchen. A few of the servers assisted from time-to-time. Everything ran like clockwork. My girlfriend enjoyed herself and we were both very impressed.

The restaurant itself is beautiful and the beautiful bar is the centerpiece of this gorgeous restaurant. The atmosphere is a lovely combination of elegance and dining comfort. The tuna was delicious and the broth was heavenly. We ordered pork taco and a beef taco, both so tasty. For our entree, we had the snapper in tomato broth. I'm still thinking about it! As soon as you know you're going to Boulder, book a reservation. Even is all you can get is an 8:45, take it! This was without a doubt the best dining experience we enjoyed in Boulder. We walked in and at first it seemed like it had a decent vibe. I had actually been to this location before when it was a different restaurant. Seems like this spot changes ownership pretty frequently, which in hindsight probably says something. Right away we noticed a bunch of tables, especially the booths, still hadn't been bussed. We were told to "sit anywhere," but the only clean tables available were high tops and we wanted a booth, so we waited for the busser, who moved at a pace that honestly felt unbelievable. He seemed to be clearing tables one cup and one plate at a time, walking each item individually back to the kitchen. It was painfully inefficient. It was obvious both he and the girl at the bar saw us standing there waiting for a booth to be cleared, but nobody seemed concerned about it. Eventually the table was finally cleared, but then it sat there dirty for a long time without being wiped down. At that point we just sat anyway, assuming someone would quickly come over and clean it once they saw guests sitting there. In most restaurants, that's standard. Not here. After waiting even longer, I finally asked for a rag so I could wipe the table down myself. The response I got back was rude: "Why don't you just sit at one of the tables that's already clear?" That pretty much sealed it for us. The vibe was off from the second we walked in, and you could feel the lack of care throughout the whole place. At that point we didn't even want to order food because it already felt like the experience was headed downhill. We got up and left. Honestly, I'm glad we did. Service and atmosphere usually reflect what's happening behind the scenes, and I had zero confidence the food experience would've been any different. After leaving, we went to El Centro instead and had a much better experience. I'd recommend choosing that over this place any day of the week. Giving people a good dining experience really isn't that complicated. Sometimes it honestly feels like restaurant staff have never gone out to eat themselves and experienced what good hospitality actually feels like. Unfortunately this place completely missed the mark. We won't be back, and I wouldn't recommend it.

I recently saw that a different family group operated this one in a very convenient part of Boulder so I decided to give it a try. A favorite classic family run restaurant with a similar menu had closed in 2014 after being in operation for 20 years. We missed that sort of menu. This is it, all the way to type of sopapillas and the classic plates with rice and beans , sauce and melted cheese. The family appeal carries through from hosts to servers to clearing staff. The menu is large though it appears that most only vary by central item. The entrees all come with the same sides and a sauce. Next time I will ask for light sauce as it pretty much buried my tamales. They need to stand out and shine and I love the taste of masa. The server was right on the spot with our drinks and we had a comfortable and clean booth. Chips and salsa were at the table as we were seated. They are plainer than some in town but still fresh and classic and free, just like Casa Alvarez, our old classic. The place was buzzing with customers young and old a perfect place for a comfortable and swiftly served meal. The space filled up quickly and though they have an enclosed patio and an open patio, not a soul for takers including us, on a 30° degree evening with a "breeze" so there was a line for tables as we left. We'll be back in a warmer weather and customize our plates a bit. It's friendly and filling and for anyone. And easy on the wallet too. Nice to have a family friendly spot like this in an easy to park shopping center with McGuckins in the lead.

The guacamole was still solid, but I guess it's hard to screw up avocados and spices. I had the shrimp and crab enchiladas, which were fair. Nothing special. Everybody else felt their food was just okay too. Really disappointing for what Rio used to be. Service was good though. That's about the only reason I'm giving this 3 stars.
