I love this salon. I like to be BLOND, so I wanted to go somewhere that I knew would make me blonde without my hair falling out and without it turning green, since i like it on the cool side. Renee and Sabrina make a great team when it comes to hair. They are always bouncing ideas off each other in order to come up with the right formulas to make me blonde. They care about the integrity of your hair too. One time I came in and my hair was super dry, so after our session they sent me home with an at home hair mask to do twice before I came back for my next appt. I don't usually write yelp reviews but MORGAN! I came in with super fried front piece and ends, and she gave me the BEST baby trim I've ever had. Didn't take off too much and saved all the length, but got rid of my dead ends. Hair has been 1000x healthier since - more healthy than it had been in a year +. I've been a customer for over 5 years! I get my hair done every 3 months or so and I tell Renee, do what ever she wants... just keep it low maintenance for me, because I am a wash and air dry girl. I hate to fuss with my hair and she gets it! They are great at matching color tones to your skin complexion, hair cuts, make up, etc... and if you want to get funky with the colors I've seen the colors on their other customers and I though it came out pretty cool! In the waiting area the large couches made it comfortable to sit and sip on freshly brewed coffee or water which was offered immediately by Kira. When sitting, you're eyes draw to the Art work and Unique interior. It's very cozy and personal and not stuffy like some other salons. Kira is professional and hospitable making sure you're ok and taken care of at all times. Renee and Sabrina transformed my hair and gave me a look that I thought I couldn't achieve. I am a natural brunette and came in with nasty orange blonde hair that didn't match my skin tone. I had variations of color all throughout my hair. I had over processed my hair and was scared to do anything with it other than going back to brunette! However that changed... Renee did a color correction and a cut. At my next appt. alternating highlights were added to break that orange and bring out that blonde. The blonde was a bit too blonde for me so Renee kindly had me come in a third time and added lowlights for dimension, we chose a cool overall tone that looked gorgeous! It was a perfect shade. Renee really cares about her clients! She takes pride in her work and makes you feel comfortable. You can tell she is very experienced and knowledgeable because she knows exactly what's colors to choose and has a great eye for it! She's easy to talk to, laid back and patient. She restored the luster in my hair by using Olaplex and now I use it weekly. My hair feels baby soft. I am truly glad I came here to get my hair done. My hair was a multi color mess. (I've seen worse, but still). I contacted them the night before and they got back to me the next day. I was lucky they were able to squeeze me in because if not I would have had to wait another week! (That was not gonna happen) So I arrived to my appointment a half hour early and they were able to take me in already. All the employees there seems really nice and laid back. My stylist was Amelia. Found this place by chance looking for a hair salon walking distance from my hotel. My hair was a two day process, and Leah L. was gracious to take me both days. We started off with a cut and color consultation. I wanted all dead off and to bring back my vibrant color which I had to wash out for a wedding party the week before. Fried, damaged, and in major need of love Leah took on the challenge. Started off with simple wash (absolutely love my head getting scratched and scrubbed), then she continued to dry then cut so we could see how far up the damage was and hack it away! Happy already the first day, my hair looked much healthier already!! She would have to buy my color (since it is.... extremely vibrant) and promised to see her the following day 11am. Both appointments she was there and ready, I didn't have to wait for prep time or anything! She walked me through the entire process so I kinda knew what was going on. My hair was about 4.5/5 hour process. She was kind enough to makes suggestions and I went for them! I wanted Bright, Bold Boom in your face color! I LOVE Everything about this experience! I wanted to get a hair cut for my birthday. I get a haircut either once a year or twice a year depending on the hair cut. Mainly because getting a good haircut for a woman is expensive so it's almost like a treat. My last one wasn't for over a year because I recently became a mother and haven't had much time during my pregnancy and dealing with a baby to get one done. When I called here ,I asked for an appointment that day. I figured since it was just a haircut and nothing crazy like hair color it may be easy but would understand if it wasn't plausible. When the woman asked someone near by if they had an opening I heard a scoff and giggle followed by a ,"Uh...let's see." After a long pause a "Sure..we can fit you in." with a irritated voice. The salon is hard to find. To make it easy, it's right behind subway, upstairs. There is a few parking spots but are slim. Stylists say you can park at bank of Hawaii next door. When I entered I thought it was amazing. The interior was beautiful. They had a really nice coffee maker which I helped myself to. I heard a , "Are you Steph?" I replied yes to a small girl who didn't look older then 20. She introduced herself as Anya and was Rene's assistant (Rene is the owner, excuse me if I misspelled that) Anya took me to get my hair washed. Although she tried small talk I noticed that she would cut me off short when I was talking with, "Yeah." "Okaaaaay." "Mmmhmm." It was obvious she didn't ACTUALLY care about what I had to say. I understand that people normally don't care about customers lives but you have to pretend at least for customer service sakes. Anya reminded me of those very pretty girls in high school that wouldn't talk to people that weren't pretty and cool. Mean girl type. Very beautiful, but not the nicest. Anya sat me down and said Rene the owner would be with me in a second. I looked up where Rene and my eyes met while she cut a clients hair. She held out her finger aggressively to tell me to wait. Almost as if she were trying to tell a kid who had been whining to wait.. even though all I did was look at her.. She never stood up which I thought was unusual. She would just push my chair side to side to cut it. I showed her what I wanted and she said that was doable. She paid me lots of compliments, saying she liked my natural wave of hair and gave me hints for what to do with my hair later but almost 100% of the time I was there she spoke to other people. She didn't even ask me where I parted my hair so She could cut it around that. No communication and even when I did she didn't listen. She tugged my hair at one point very hard and didn't apologize. She asked to see my photo again of the haircut I wanted and continued cutting. Finally when it was done I couldn't wait to leave. It didn't seem like my feelings mattered and I wanted to leave as quick as possible. Before I even walked away Rene continued to talk to her stylists as if I was old news and I stared at her for a long time to say thank you when she finally noticed me and said, "Thanks , bye!" I left a 15% tip even though I hated my hair. I wanted to speak up but Rene , if you meet her, has a very aggressive aunty personality and makes it hard to speak up or approach . I will post 3 pictures to show how things didn't work out. I wanted shorter hair and swept bangs and all I got was barely a trim and a chunk of hair cut on the side that's supposed to be bangs. I cried and cut some hair off in my bathroom which my boyfriend called out, "Didn't you pay close to $100 for a haircut today? Why are you cutting it ?" If you are the owner, doing a haircut and swept bangs shouldn't be difficult. Didn't even look like I got anything done and I spent $83. It was basically just for a hair wash. I'm a mom and on a budget. I wanted to splurge for my birthday but it unfortunately was a waste. Left this salon disappointed and frustrated. I was recommended to see a stylist who I won't name because I don't think this is her fault. I came in for a consult and discussed that I moved and am seeking a new stylist in the area. She looked through my hair I told her my last processes and my old stylist even supplied the history of what developer she used etc. I came in today one week later for my appointment and her manager and her had discussed that they no longer felt comfortable processing my hair as they weren't sure what was used and that my root grow out was too short, which I respect and is fine. What I am upset about is the lack of communication on behalf of the business. I spent over $40 ubering to an appointment I didn't need to go to. I have the stylists Instagram and the salon uses texting. It would've been much more efficient to let me know prior to my making time for this appointment. I blame the management entirely and if this is how they conduct business then I'm not sure how much they truly care about their clients. I was offered a complementary deep condition treatment which I was happy to redeem however it was only offered for my next appointment because the stylist was too busy, aka she knew she wouldn't be doing my hair. This felt inconsiderate and like a lack of thought or care. I'm contemplating returning and spending my money here which is upsetting because the stylist is supposedly very talented. This was my first time going to this salon to get a balayage and I was definitely not disappointed with the way it came out! I got my hair done by Ashley and, right off the bat, she was super sweet and welcoming even though I showed up a little late to my appointment due to an unexpected situation I had beforehand. When I arrived, I showed her a picture of how I wanted my hair done and she knew exactly how to work with it. She is really knowledgeable about her work and really pays attention to what her clients want. My hair was really long and took a while to color but she was very patient and thorough while also making sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process. THIS REVIEW IS FOR ERIN After a deliberated thought and searching on yelp I've decided to go give Sanctuary Salon a try as I am on a quest to find "the one." I made an appointment for Tuesday at 12pm but for some reason I put down 1pm. Ended up calling to ask about parking and spoke with Erin and found out it was suppose to be 12. I felt so bad but she was such a doll, she wasn't upset but rescheduled me for the next day (which is today) at 9am. Fast forward it's 8:45am I'm downstairs in my car waiting when Erin came to open the shop. She caught my attention right away which was great. So, she sat me down and I explained and showed her examples of what I was looking into. She looked at them all and gave me her opinions, what I liked most was that she took my ideas but incorporated some of her's not just as a stylist but a person who truly cares about making others feel pretty. The amazing part of all she didn't make me feel like a client but as though a friends that haven't seen each other in a long time and was just catching up with life. I can honestly feel she's genuine not just talking just to make conversation but she made me feel comfortable and I enjoyed our conversations and outlook on life. I am truly happy to have found Erin, I am an easy person yet I am picky but I can honestly say Erin is not just amazing with her work but as well as a person. Often times stylist and people in the beauty industry don't get enough credit. Their job doesn't only make people feel pretty but they are key in giving us back our self esteem and that was exactly what Erin did today. I would keep this gem to myself but I feel compelled to share her amazing work and awesome personality to the world. Ahhhhh I'm so glad I met Sabrina!!! Not only is she a beautiful soul but she got hair color game y'all. I've been patiently to do a balayage...what took so long you may ask? Well I didn't find a hairdresser that I felt "got me". I've visited other salons on the island and got my haircut and they turned out good, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't like what I truly, truly wanted. And yes I understand that sometimes certain hair textures, etc don't go well with certain cuts so I know what kind of cuts go well with my hair. Anyways I was still on the hunt for a hairdresser that got me. Then comes Sabrina...she took the time to ask me questions about what I wanted, how my hair is, how my hair reacts to certain products and what not. I asked for a "cold brew" balayage with golden ends and something low maintenance that I don't have to constantly upkeep and guess what??? Sabrina got me!!! I am so in love with the service I received! Like I left the salon really loving my hair. It was even better than I anticipated! Even better the quote she gave me was actually what I paid AAAAND it was the best deal I came across for a balayage. THIS PLACE IS A DISGUSTING JOKE I've had a rough time finding a good stylist here in Hawaii so I gave this place a shot. At the beginning of the first Covid lockdown release I was able to get an appointment to do a quick shaping/trim. They did an okay job, not great, but okay. Since it was just okay I had gone to a few other stylists and unfortunately they started my string of HORRIBLE haircuts here on Oahu. Since the experience at Sanctuary Salon wasn't that bad I decided to give them another shot. I made an appoint this past Friday for a hair cut at 10:30 AM. I arrived at 10:15 and checked in with a stylist that was doing a color treatment (they didn't have a receptionist working which makes sense since no one ever answers the phone). The stylist I checked In with checked the schedule and said that the stylist that was supposed to handle my cut was still on their way to work and that could wait I opted to wait outside....where I waited for 45 minutes. In that time no one checked in on me, no one arrived for work (I could see the front door and only other entrance from my seat on the balcony). At that point I was over it and decided to leave. Since then, no one ever called to apologize, check in, etc. and I haven't heard anything from the salon. This place is a joke and the customer service is soo far below par I don't even know what to say. If I could give negative stars I would. My advice to the owner or manager:make sure your team is doing their jobs and make sure you level up on the customer service experience because right now IT SUCKS. Sent from my iPhone read more

I was debating whether or not to do my hair for a wedding I was attending, but happy that I got it done and they were able to accommodate me! She just really wants her clients to love their hair and that's exactly how I left the salon after my balayage. My only tip is that if you're on a super strict budget, verify the price with your stylist before your appointment because I was charged a lot more than the website's starting price and I was told that the website's prices are 4 years old. Renee and Sabrina did a complete makeover on my hair in ONE day! They were amazing and fun to be around, I am so thrilled with the results- they made my hair dreams come true. I came in with a VERY short (above the chin!), Frizzy, Curly, Multi-Colored and damaged bowl cut and walked out with the long, silky straight locks of my dreams. I'd been wearing wigs and wraps to cover my hair- no more! Plus for the first time in a decade I am wearing my natural color again, it feels so good! I had a great experience at Sanctuary salon with Renée. I am always cautious about getting haircuts at new places because I have curly hair and have had such bad experience. In Hawaii it's especially hard to find a hairdresser that knows how to cut curly hair. One of the stylists recommended that I see Renée as she has experience with curls. I have always wanted to find a nail artist that could do Pinterest nails without breaking the bank and when I started at my new job, my colleague told me about her artist, Yoshino. After getting a few crappy gel manicures (and we all know gel costs dollahs) that lasted 1.5 weeks at the most, I decided that spending a little more might not hurt if it would last longer. So, I made an appointment (via text) with Yoshino and I have never looked back. So far, every single Pinterest look I've asked for, she has accomplished pretty much to a T! I'm in heaven. :D The best partS? (Yes there's more than one.) She will tell you if she's not sure she can do it (gotta love honesty) and she's amazingly nice. EVEN BETTAH. Definitely recommend her if you're looking for someone who is affordable, but still gives you gorgeous, quality nails. PS: Parking is available here, but it can get a little tough. SO, try and make appointments early to snag a parking spot, or plan on bringing parking tokens to park on the street. I want to start by saying that in the end the haircut was not horrible. This review is about the horrible service/experience i had with the one stylist who would not listen to what the i wanted. I made my appointment via Yelp and Renee was quick to reply and confirm my last minute booking. A+ for that service because i know a lot of businesses take days to reply. My stylist was about 15 minutes late, she rushed in and barely apologized. She did not ask my name or introduce herself (otherwise i would provide her name in this review). The first thing i told her was that i had just gotten some new ear piercings and my ear was very sensitive. I told her what i wanted.... Cut about 5 or so inches, keep the V cut and layers. To which she replied that a V cut and layers are not the same thing and that i cant have both. I explained that i always get this style and its what i currently have. She said "i don't think you understand the styles then". I said ok then please keep the layers and don't do the V cut. I should have just walked out before the damage was done... that's what i get for trying to be polite. Anyway, she then straight away chopped off MORE than 5 inches. For reference; my hair was a little bit past the middle of my back, when i left it was barely past my shoulders. We headed to the sink to wash my hair and she kept hitting my sensitive ear, so much so that i kept flinching every time she got close. She snapped at me "don't move, don't lift your head just relax and i will lift it". Overall i lost count of how many times she hit my ear, but when i left it was red and throbbing. Sorry for the long review... i will just list the issues moving forward. -She almost cut her own finder 2x with her scissors. Scary! -She didn't try to make conversation at all. -She started to thin my hair, i told her i didn't want it thinned. She said "ok but i have to to define the layers" ... then she kept thinning. -She kept wanting to go shorter. I told her no, she said it would look nice. -She said i should get bangs. To which i told her "NOO". She kept insisting that it would look better. Thank God she didn't just do it, like everything else she wanted. -She said my hair color is nice (virgin hair) but that it would look better if she could do highlights. I told her no, she listened. Overall i felt that i had no choice in what she did to my hair. I wanted to wait a couple days to do this review, let the new hairdo settle and sink in. Like i said in the beginning the hairdo isn't horrible, but it is NOT what i asked for and it does nothing for me. I regret ever letting her touch my hair. For $65+ a stylist should be able to do a V cut with layers and listen to what the client wants. read more
