A few girlfriends had signed up for their Yoni treatment, and asked me if I wanted to be the 4th in their appointment. The only thing I knew about it was that it was for your "hooha." Attempting at being more adventurous, I agreed and met them up one breezy Saturday morning. This is a nice, clean spa in the River Oaks area that insists on using high-quality, all-natural herbs, spices and flowers to treat bad symptoms for the body. I'm not really into the self-help granola-y stuff, but I really do appreciate that there weren't any harsh chemicals to treat people. They even have bins of flowers and herbs labeled with positive effects of each item near the cash register, so you could make your own specialized tea to help with whatever ails ya. For those for you who know as little about it as I did, it's a steam treatment for your VJJ. You sit on a wicker chair with a hole cut out on the seat that is placed over a steaming pot of water with special herbs and flowers. You sit naked on the chair with a large cape-like bib over your whole body, and the steam not only rises to your nether regions, but can also rise up and escape out of the cape to your face, killing two birds with one steamy stone. Benefits of the spa include detoxing of your area, fighting infection, balancing hormones and the like. One thing I liked was that it's supposed to lessen period cramps. I have yet to have my period since the spa, so I can let you guys know if it works or not! The four of us sat together under our capes in a small, dark room. Our main liason, Rashida, was super helpful and accommodating. She brought in ice water to keep us hydrated, and cold, moist cloths to wipe ourselves down if we got too hot. Overall, it was 30 minutes and I felt great afterwards! The cost was $50, but if you check in for the first time, you get 10% off. So including tip, I ended up paying $50. I think it's definitely worth trying. Even if it doesn't work as great as it says, you can still feel good knowing that you had a nice pampering (that you deserve). read more

Omg! let me start by saying I am a spa addict and wellness junkie who goes around to every type of spa or alternative lifestyle to try it, but Sanctuary is by far the top 3 spas in Houston and might I add the only spa that offers a non-sketchy yoni steam service. From the time you walk in it is so calming, very clean, and they have an amazing staff. The waiting room has great herbal tea and free massage chairs to relax before your service. I love that you can not hear anything once your in the room. I think the one thing that sets this spa apart is the level of service.They actually hire great staff members who live a Holistic lifestyle and those who are very knowledgeable of the services and not just trying to get you to buy products and or memberships. It has taken YEARS for my eyebrows to be in the place where I like them but thanks to Sanctuary, they are there! I spent about 10 years getting them threaded, which I thought was the best for my brows but one eyebrow always looked thinner than the other one. When I returned to Sanctuary after many years away, the owner happened to be available to do my brows and suggested waxing. Wow! I never would have had them waxed had she not explained the benefits. From that point forward, I've been returning for regular eyebrow waxes. DeAnn does my brows and she is very precise. She takes her time and very much cares about her clients. She's very friendly and makes sure you are well taken care of. I break out easily so she switched the wax to a calmer One time Storm did my brows and started dying them without asking my permission and then she did a sloppy brow wax. From now on I only see DeAnn. The cost is $20 and I usually leave a $5 tip. You also build up points in the system when you make a future appointment or refer a friend. Pampered from the first phone call till I walked out the door! I felt well taken care of by the receptionist who booked my appointment, the confirmation and lunch order and by my therapists! I booked the Exfoliate & Glow package and will definitely be a repeat customer! First was the Salt Glow treatment with Lauren. The scrub down was followed by the Vichey shower. Skin was so soft after! I was escorted to the relaxation room where I had some tea and was in a fabulous massage chair. Lauren then took me in for my Swedish massage. Perfect pressure and she was responsive when I had issues! Great massage! Lunch was ready when that was done. A scrumptious salad that they had ordered in. This was the only awkward time. You eat in the relaxation room where others were trying to relax. I felt that every bite and crunch I was making noise that interrupted others! Would have really enjoyed a small table maybe in a sun room or on a patio to not disturb others but keep with the tranquil experience. Courtney then took me back for my off-the menu facial with eye enhancement! This girl works wonders! My skin has never looked and felt so fantastic (and I have had a few facials before!) I love this place! I discovered it while they were at their old location and was happy they moved to the Shepherd location. I was surprised that I hadn't written a review sooner considering I've been here a few times already! The staff is super friendly and all the services I've had are great! Especially the facials! The prices are affordable as well and the staff will advise you to let them know if you feel any discomfort at all during the facial. My skin feels refreshed and rejuvenated after the facials, and I feel so relaxed! Another benefit is that they don't put pressure on you to buy products. I cannot write enough good things about this wonderful spa! Seriously, the best in Houston! My husband, being the amazing guy that he is, gifted me with a gift certificate to use here for Valentine's Day. He thought as a new mommy, I deserved a little break from diapers and drool. He could not have picked a more fabulous spa! I had a cranial massage with Wendi. Because it was a rather busy Saturday, I could only get a 30 minute session rather than the usual hour. It was ah-mazing. So relaxing. I then moved on to a facial, which was fantastic. Everything about both experiences was perfect, the lighting, the music, the heated bed (!), the products used, perfection. I used to be stationed at Fort Huachuca, south of Tucson. On my weekends off, I would drive up to the Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain to take advantage of their military rate. The spa there was incredible, and I never found another that even came close since moving back to Houston...until now. To add to it, the owner, Kim, emailed me after my appointment. She said she heard I had mentioned how much I loved the spa at the Ritz while I was on an Army assignment but was so pleased with Sanctuary. Me and mom went here on Saturday(Nov 14) and wanted a day of pampering. Sadly we didn't get that. I have been to the trellis spa and so this is what i am comparing it to. There was a small waiting room right when u walk through the doors on your left and all they had were two lounge chairs and two massage ones. And with that, they let you bring in your food and eat in their waiting rooms. They do not supply and food but they do have water, and hot/cold tea. And I would say that our massages and facials weren't good ones. Me and my mom like to have light pressure when we get massages and let's just say we came out with neck and back pains. I've decided to sign up for their monthly membership program after frequently visiting this place for the past year. It's $79 a month and you can choose a 50-minute massage or a facial each month. They also give you a free product every month. I prefer this type of spa to Massage Envy or Massage Heights. Sanctuary Spa does a good job of making me feel pampered every time I go in. Their green tea is also very good! Kim, who no longer works here, is amazing at waxing. Donato, Sandy, and Esmeralda all do a great job at massages (deep tissue). I've had only one bad experience and it was with Ashra (I think that's what her name was). She was in such a rush that day and seemed upset about her time crunch. I've also had facials done by the owner, Brea. Out of all the services, I'd recommend their massages. read more

I returned to Sanctuary Spa today... Had not been in a few years. I must say, my appointment ranks as one of my all time best spa experiences. I tend to gravitate towards spas that have more amenities and Sanctuary is not one of those spas. However, the level of customer service and quality of the treatment I received today trumps amenities. From the second I walked in the door to the minute I left I was treated like a queen. The front desk attendant was outstanding. Once she got me settled in the quiet area, she made my tea and literally tucked me in my blanket on the chaise lounge. I wish I remembered her name so I could mention it! I was there for a facial and Annie was my esthetician. Sanctuary is known for their facials and Annie did not disappoint. She was so grounded and in tune with every moment of my facial. Nothing worse than getting a treatment and the provider is just going thru the motions. Not Annie! My facial was 90 minutes so I had time to really relax and she made every minute like a vacation from the real world. Five star facial, hands down. While Sanctuary has a lot of product for sale, they have never tried to hard sell me on anything which I completely appreciate. Do yourself a favor, if you are reading reviews to find a really wonderful place for a massage or facial (or other treatments ) go to Sanctuary, especially for a facial. I liked this place a lot until recent. I had made an appointment almost 2 months in advance for a eyebrow wax. I made it the day before a birthday trip. My appointment was at 4:30pm. I arrived about 5-10 minutes early. Because of covid, we had to call upon our arrival and wait, which was fine. Unfortunately, when I called to tell them I had arrived, they then told me the esthetician had called in sick and had to reschedule. They told me they had called but I had no missed calls, messages, not even an email so a completely lie. They told me they could take someone out of their appointment to quickly attend me. I'm thinking, "How unfair would that be for the person in their appointment to quickly wax me?" No thanks. I sent their manager an email explaining the situation and I NEVER received a response. The spa atmosphere is very relaxing and calming. In the relaxation room you can recline in the massage chair while waiting for your service. The products are absolute game changers. The body scrub is amazing and leaves my skin baby soft and glowing. The yoni steam is my favorite service. You get a private room where you dress and prepare for the service. You steam for 30 mins all while snacking, sipping and chatting. Regina is absolutely the best. She is so friendly and knowledgeable about the services. They are very nice when you walk in and then take care of you the whole way through. We got a sweedish massage and it was great. Definitely tell them how you like the pressure though, mine was a little light at first until I told him. Also I like that they didn't try to sell us stuff afterwards like products etc. Only advice is if you are headed that way from the North be careful not to pass it up. Some background: my boyfriend unfortunately has to celebrate his birthday a few weeks before his bar exam, and he's been stressed, so a massage was the perfect gift! He's had a few in the past. I'm not much of a massage person, so I got myself a facial, which is a first for me. The appointment: I used their front desk email address to contact them and plan the appointments. Jessica was super quick to answer my lengthy questions and was able to schedule my boyfriend and I for the same time, and even allow him the option to choose which massage he wanted on the spot, so I could make it a surprise. I scheduled a few days before the appointments, it was painless! The atmosphere: Great place! The only con (and I can't fault Sanctuary for it) was the traffic due to construction. But because they're located in a little side street, we seemed far removed from the noise once we got in. Walking in , the front area was bright and not overly scented. I felt relaxed as soon I sat down! The paperwork was standard, and we were moved to a low-lit relaxation room to wait and have some water and tea. Rashida, one of the ladies at the front desk, was really welcoming and warm, made me feel comfortable from the start! The facial: AMAZING! Granted, it was my first, but I can imagine plenty of ways for a therapist to mess up a facial. Ana was on point! I got the bougette facial to get some variety, and I'd say it was worth it. The extractions were virtually painless and the shoulder, neck and back massage that followed were well done. Ana seemed to be aware of when there was too much or not enough pressure during the facial and other massages, and adjusted without a peep from me! She was also really welcoming, so it made my first facial a difficult one to beat! The massage: though I can't speak to his experience, my other half looked more relaxed than he has this whole year, and that speaks volumes! Looks like Lorraine was great! I decided to come here based on previous yelp reviews and I would have to say it was worth it. I had the 60 minute Swedish massage and I also decided to treat my good friend and she received the off the menu facial. As soon as you walk into not the place it's very welcoming and very relaxing. The front desk receptionist was very helpful. After you sign in the bring you to the relaxation room and that where you get a choice of red or white wine. Now to the actual massage - it was great and I was a little disappointed when it was over. Because I have haven't had a massage in awhile and I takes me a while to calm and relax. I really think I'm ready for 90 minute massages. My friend who had the facial just came out and her face looks really dewey(sp). The only thing I noticed is they don't get you into a robe before the service but if you think about its another step in the process that they don't have to worry about. RUDY IS A LIFESAVER! I have been active all my life and always had problems with aching legs. I have terrible circulation, varicose veins, muscle soreness and knots.. etc. Rudy was able to tailor my massage to my specific needs and even explained what he did and why after it was complete. I have had a lot of massages before but I've never been to the same person twice.. not because they were terrible but they just weren't anything special. They were relaxing but didn't really fix any issues. That's not the case with Rudy! It was so relaxing and I feel light as air today. I seriously don't remember my legs ever feeling this light, stretched out, and just NORMAL before. The spa itself is awesome. I'm a homebody and even though I love getting things done like massages, facials, etc. I wish I had enough money to have those services come to me. However, I felt completely at home at the spa. So we've been coming here for years for massages, and it's always been a lovely experience. The massages are still lovely. But we've had more difficulty scheduling things lately than the membership is starting to be worth. We have a young child, so our services built up to the point that we were both scheduled for back-to-back massages today. Except that didn't happen because somebody entered them for late next month on a day we don't have off. We were offered a facial instead, which we declined because that's not what we were there for, and asked if we could come back tomorrow, which we also declined because daycare is closed on Saturdays and we have other things we have to get done. They called it a "miscommunication," which is mildly insulting because we were pretty clear when we scheduled today after our appointments two weeks ago. My mom recently (last week) went here for a facial, I did a ton of research to find a good place for her and this seemed like a top pick from everything I read. Honestly, I'm quite disappointed with the experience she came home and told me about. First off I wanted her to have some time to relax and reboot because of all the craziness in our lives lately. I am a college student so I splurged for her to get a 60 min facial done! She said she got a phone call the day before explaining that she will have as much time as she wants in the "zen room" before and after her treatment, she will be given a robe to change into, and basic info about what else will be happening in the treatment. She went in the next day and was ushered into the zen room where she only spent about 3 mins before the lady came to get her for her appt. Now that's understandable but she wasn't given a robe to change into and was just expected to wear her street clothes into the facial. She has had many facials in her life and has never had to wear her regular clothes during a treatment before so that was weird and not what she had been told the day before. The treatment began and she said it was just "ok." The girl didn't inform her of any products she was using on her face and didn't give her a sheet with that info at the end like you usually would receive. She was sent out of the treatment room with a cup of water to the check-in/lobby area, not taken back to the zen room to recover and relax (again like she had been told she would do). She felt uncomfortable just sitting in the waiting area so she drank her water and went up to the counter to pay. The girl asked if she needed anything else and gave her her total. No one tried to inform her of the products that were available for purchase. She said she would've bought the mask if someone had told her about it but I guess that's a lost sale for y'all. Overall, as someone who paid over $100 for a service that was supposed to be relaxing for my mother I am very disappointed at the experience she received and will not be returning! read more

My friend and I enjoyed the yoni, which was amazing. It just feels good doing something good for yourself. The atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing. I had my "nano" brows done with Courtney and they are perfect! She is a professional with incredible knowledge and will give you the best customized brows for you. She is the only person in Houston that I'm aware of that uses this technique which is more gentle on skin but longer lasting that microblading. I have referred several friends to her.
